All-purpose service coat issued to enlisted soldiers at the onset of World War II Until the late 1930s, the United States Army’s field uniform consisted of a wool flannel shirt, matching trousers, a mid-hip-length "all-purpose service coat" and wool overcoat. Save for its belted waist, the single-breasted service coat resembled a suit or sport coat. Little changed since the mid-1920s, it featured notched lapels and four metal buttons from its open collar to its belted waist. Made of wool fabric, it touted two flapped and button-through patch pockets at the breast and two identically styled patch pockets below its waist – its four pockets either box-pleated or bellows-styled-pleats.

All of the songs on A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean were written or co-written by Buffett. The most well-known song of the album, the novelty "Why Don't We Get Drunk (and Screw)", was originally released as a B-side, backing the single "The Great Filling Station Holdup" and inspired some controversy at the time due to its lyrics. Buffett wrote "Why Don't We Get Drunk" and is credited with playing maracas and beer cans on the album under the pseudonym Marvin Gardens, derived from a property on the original Atlantic City version of the Monopoly game board. "He Went to Paris" is a perennial fan favorite ballad, appearing on most of Buffett's greatest hits collections.

In addition to a cash prize, the winner of the tournament is presented with a distinctive green jacket, formally awarded since 1949 and informally awarded to the champions from the years prior. The green sport coat is the official attire worn by members of Augusta National while on the club grounds; each Masters winner becomes an honorary member of the club. Frank Booth is a fictional character and the main antagonist in David Lynch's 1986 psychological thriller Blue Velvet, portrayed by Dennis Hopper. A violent drug dealer, he has kidnapped the family of lounge singer Dorothy Vallens, holding them hostage in order to force her into becoming his sex slave; their encounters are characterized by Frank huffing an unknown gas from a tank he carries with him, which causes him to exhibit a split personality between two individuals he identifies as "Baby" and "Daddy" and whose personas he assumes to engage in acts of ritualistic rape. Frank is partners with a police detective known as "The Yellow Man" (for his distinctive sport coat), who helps Frank kill rival drug dealers, later stealing their supplies from the evidence room so that Frank can sell them himself. Hopper's performance as Frank was critically acclaimed, and the character was ranked #36 on AFI's list of the top 50 film villains of all time.

Dene was born in Lancaster Street, Elephant & Castle, London, and was discovered by Paul Lincoln at the 2i's Coffee Bar (the London club that helped launch Tommy Steele, Adam Faith and Cliff Richard) in Soho in the late 1950s. Jack Good, producer of Six-Five Special, and Dick Rowe helped him obtain a recording contract with Decca. At the time he was regarded as the British Elvis and recognised as one of the best voices of the rock and roll era of pre-Beatles Britain. His first single, "A White Sport Coat", in the first seven weeks sold in excess of 350,000 copies, together with "Stairway of Love", which remained in the chart for eight weeks, and his own version of "Start Movin'" at number 14, put his records in the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart twice in the same year, securing his name in the Guinness Book of Records. He toured Britain, was one of the first to appear in the BBC Television's first pop show, Six-Five Special in April 1957, and appeared in a film, The Golden Disc (1958).
