On 14 September 1944, the 393d Bombardment Squadron arrived at Wendover from its former base at Fairmont Army Air Base, Nebraska, where it had been in operational training (OTU) with the 504th Bombardment Group since 12 March. When its parent group deployed to the Marianas in early November 1944, the squadron was assigned directly to the Second Air Force until creation of the 509th Composite Group.

In June 2012, Murkowski sent a letter to United States Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe regarding information she had heard about the U.S. Postal Service becoming "a main conduit for drug trafficking in Juneau, Petersburg, and other Southeast Alaska communities" and asserted that actions needed to be taken to prevent the USPS from being a drug trafficking avenue, urging Donahoe to consider "whether cross-deputization agreements could be entered with local law enforcement that might allow them to conduct inspections, if they have the resources to do so." In March 2019, Murkowski was a cosponsor of a bipartisan resolution led by Gary Peters and Jerry Moran that opposed privatization of the United States Postal Service (USPS), citing the USPS as an establishment that was self-sustained and noting concerns that a potential privatization could cause higher prices and reduced services for customers of USPS with a particular occurrence in rural communities.

No amount of 238U can be made "critical" since it will tend to parasitically absorb more neutrons than it releases by the fission process. 235U, on the other hand, can support a self-sustained chain reaction, but due to the low natural abundance of 235U, natural uranium cannot achieve criticality by itself. The trick to achieving criticality using only natural or low enriched uranium, for which there is no "bare" critical mass, is to slow down the emitted neutrons (without absorbing them) to the point where enough of them may cause further nuclear fission in the small amount of 235U which is available. (238U which is the bulk of natural uranium is also fissionable with fast neutrons.) This requires the use of a neutron moderator, which absorbs virtually all of the neutrons' kinetic energy, slowing them down to the point that they reach thermal equilibrium with surrounding material.

Code of Federal Regulations Title 14 Part 25 Federal Aviation Administration, Tuesday 10 April 2007 There are two major sections of the FAA's airworthiness regulations that regulate flight entertainment systems and their safety in transport category aircraft: 14 CFR 25.1301 which approves the electronic equipment for installation and use, by assuring that the system in question is properly labeled, and that its design is appropriate to its intended function. 14 CFR 25.1309 states that the electrical equipment must not alter the safety or functionality of the aircraft upon the result of a failure. One way for the intended IFE system to meet this regulatory requirement is for it to be independent from the aircraft's main power source and processor. By separating the power supplies and data links from that of the aircraft's performance processor, in the event of a failure the system is self-sustained, and can not alter the functionality of the aircraft.

It is nearly impossible to acquire satisfactory data for the properties of materials expected to be subject to an intense neutron flux, and burning plasmas are expected to have quite different properties from externally heated plasmas. Supporters contend that the answer to these questions requires the ITER experiment, especially in the light of the monumental potential benefits. O'Toole stated that the prequel would have "explicitly explore[d] the links between the feminist movement and witchcraft." What started out as a part-time job for Legetic and close friends and aimed to create a single stop for information about DC social events has since become, according to Legetic, a "self-sustained media property" with at least 6 full- time employees, 60 contributors, and numerous interns. In 2012, The New York Times called Brightest Young Things a "party-production juggernaut," and Legetic was named #42 on GQ Magazine's 50 most powerful people in Washington, D.C.Cherlin, Reid. On March 25, 2013, managing editor Logan Donaldson was accused of plagiarizing a number of blurbs on BYT's “spring and summer music guide” from sources such as Rolling Stone, Telegraph, and Wikipedia.

Between the summer of 1997 and fall of 1999, the P. tricuspis fly was released in eight different sites over the mounds of the fire ant located throughout North Florida as a self-sustained way of controlling the fire ant, with six of these sites having a survival population after the first winter. Over the years, the population of P. tricuspis fly at these sites continued to grow and expanded beyond the area of the release sites, and in the fall of 2000 the sites fused into one large occupied area. The purpose of the P. tricuspis fly was to stress the fire ant population in order to shift the balance back in favor of the native ants in America. While the exact impact of the fly on the fire ant population is unknown, the fire ant has evolved to develop specific defense mechanisms against the fly, indicating that there is some sort of large population wide significance on the survival of the fire ant colonies.

In 2020, a study showed that the process of relaxation (adjustment) of localized large-scale pressure anomalies in the lower equatorial troposphere, generates structures strongly resembling the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) events, as seen in vorticity, pressure, and moisture fields. Indeed it is demonstrated that baroclinicity and moist convection substantially change the scenario of the quasi-barotropic “dry” adjustment, which was established in the framework of one-layer shallow water model and consists, in the long-wave sector, in the emission of equatorial Rossby waves, with dipolar meridional structure, to the West, and of equatorial Kelvin waves, to the East. If moist convection is strong enough, a dipolar cyclonic structure, which appears in the process of adjustment as a Rossby-wave response to the perturbation, transforms into a coherent modon- like structure in the lower layer, which couples with a baroclinic Kelvin wave through a zone of enhanced convection and produces, at initial stages of the process, a self-sustained slowly eastward-propagating zonally- dissymmetrical quadrupolar vorticity pattern.

At a meeting with the scientific attachés of the European embassies in Moscow in early February 2010 Mikhail Kovalchuk, Director of the Kurchatov Institute, announced that an initiative aimed at developing a fast paced joint research programme in nuclear fusion research was strongly supported by the Governments of Russia and Italy. The original proposal had been initiated earlier by Evgeny Velikhov (President of the Kurchatov Institute) and Bruno Coppi (Head of the High Energy Plasmas Undertaking, MIT) during the early developments of the Alcator C-Mod programme at MIT, where well known scientists of the Kurchatov Institute made key contributions to experiments that identified the unique confinement and purity properties of the high density plasmas produced by the high field Alcator machine. In effects this investigated, for the first time, physical processes leading to attain self-sustained fusion burning plasmas. The collaboration with the Kurchatov Institute is directed at the construction of the Ignitor machine, the first experiment proposed to achieve ignition conditions by nuclear fusion reactions on the basis of existing knowledge of plasma physics and available technologies.

During World War II, in his sixties, Rondeau was apparently suspected of being a draft dodger, as he submitted a letter dated 4/8/43 to the Ausable Forks Record-Post: :I never went to Cold River to dodge anything, unless it was from 1930 to 1940 when it might be said I dodged the American labor failure at which time I could not get enough in civilization to get along even as well as I could at Cold River under hard circumstances in the back woods. Since I'm not evading I did not make my first appearance at Cold River on the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed. What I'm doing toward the war effort looks like nothing, but that's all I can do and I'm doing it and it is this -- I'm self sustained. In 1947, Rondeau was flown to the National Sportsmen's Show in New York City by helicopter, starting a series of appearances at similar shows throughout the country. In 1950, the New York State Conservation Department closed the Cold River area to the public after a “big blow” leveled the forest, forcing Rondeau from his home at age 67.

Victor A. Arredondo Alvarez,, former Minister of Education at the State of Veracruz, Mexico (2004-2010), is now President of the Corporate Villa Aprendizaje (Learning Village). He holds a bachelor’s and a master's degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Universidad Veracruzana, Western Michigan University and West Virginia University, respectively. He has served as president of Universidad Veracruzana (1997-2004), general director for Higher Education at the Federal Ministry of Public Education (SEP, 1992-1997) and academic chairman at Mexico’s National Association of Universities and Institutes of Higher Education (ANUIES, 1980-1984). He was Mexico’s representative at the Trilateral Steering Committee, responsible to outline parallel to NAFTA, the CONAHEC among Canada, USA and Mexico (1992-1997); President of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (2003-2005), the most influential university collaboration agency in the American continent; and recipient of academic distinctions from universities of the Americas and Europe. He developed the “Vasconcelos Program” (virtual mobile classrooms and facilitators supporting rural communities self-sustained development), for which he received the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation “Access to Learning Award” in 2008, and the “Clavijero Consortium”,Arredondo, V. A., (2007).

In this text his son Romanus II is never designated as a self-sustained ruler. Obviously, the whole De Administrando Imperio Constantine VII was written when he was alive. With the editions of De Administrando Imperio (DAI) it is said that this work was written between 948 and 952. Such opinion originate from written in the 27th, 29th and 45th Chapters DAI. In the 29th Chapter author says: “now (today) is the VII indiction, the year 6457 from the creation of the world”, and Byzantine year 6457 from the creation of the world corresponds with 948/949 CE. In the 45th chapter author says: “now (today) is the X indiction, the year from the creation of the world 6460 in the reign of Constantine [VII] and Romanus [II]”, and Byzantine year 6460 from the creation of the world corresponds with 951/952 CE. From this, it is clear that some parts of DAI were written in the period 948-952 CE. According to other researchers the text of De Administrando Imperio was compiled at some point after 952 and before November 959 when Constantine VII died.
