According to the Garuda Purana, a soul after leaving the body travels through a very long and dark tunnel towards the South. This is why an oil lamp is lit and kept beside the head of the corpse, to light the dark tunnel and allow the soul to travel comfortably. In the story a boy and a girl are in love with each other, but are cursed such that every time they kiss, the girl dies; she then reincarnates, meets the boy (who never ages or changes) 17 years later, and they fall in love and kiss again, only for the cycle to repeat endlessly each 17 years. Cam takes Luce to a club on her birthday and they kiss, only to be violently interrupted by Daniel, who yells that he had told Cam to stay away from Luce, and accuses him of still being “with Lucifer.” Luce, flees and tells Penn what happened, confiding that she suspects Cam and she have been reincarnated.

Throughout history, Gilad is often seen working alongside Geomancers, a long-line of sorcerers connected to Earth itself and who sometimes recruited others to help against great threats. His one recurring foe is the Immortal Enemy, a mortal who repeatedly reincarnates, recalls his past lives, and attempts evil again, always having one green eye and one brown eye. Originally, Eternal Warrior Volume 1 #1 introduces Gilad with only one immortal brother, Aram. The crossover story of Eternal Warrior Volume 1 #8 and Archer & Armstrong Volume 1 #8 then retroactively introduced Ivar as a third brother, the eldest, before he went on to star in his own series Timewalker, which then established that the father of the three men was a warrior called Vandal, who may have had unique qualities himself.

The Vajrayana tradition considers ignorance as fetters of bondage into samsara, and its teachings have focussed on a Tantric path under the guidance of a teacher, to remove Avidya and achieve liberation in a single lifetime. Avidyā is identified as the first of the twelve links of dependent origination (twelve nidanas)—a sequence of links that describe why a being reincarnates and remains bound within the samsara, a cycle of repeated births and deaths in six realms of existence. The twelve nidanas are an application of the Buddhist concept of pratītyasamutpāda (dependent origination). This theory, presented in Samyutta Nikaya II.2–4 and Digha Nikaya II.55–63, asserts that rebirth, re-aging and re-death ultimately arise through a series of twelve links or nidanas ultimately rooted in Avidyā, and the twelfth step Jarāmaraṇa triggers the dependent origination of Avidyā, recreating an unending cycle of dukkha (suffering, pain, unsatisfactoriness).

Inaugurated on 15 August 2004, by Chilean Luis Gutiérrez, and the Uruguayan Fabian Mateo, the early days of Fenix were mostly arranged by the two characters mentioned above. The name of the club was adopted by the founders who were searching for a name with the characteristics of being a Uruguayan club, but not of extreme fame like Peñarol or Nacional, and in honour to Centro Atlético Fenix, an Uruguayan institution founded in July 1916, the name was adopted and the club baptised as Fenix. The name Fenix (Phoenix in English) refers to the mythological immortal bird, that lights itself on fire when its death is near, and reincarnates from its own ashes; the fenix is the emblem and logo of the club. In 2010, Luis Gutierrez, the only founder who was still participating with the club, decided to leave and presented his resignation to the Public Officer role that he had been in charge since the foundation of the club, due to personal reasons.
