"We never thought that would happen to us," Dr. Pean said.

So as the Pean family pondered its options, I did other reporting.

Nonetheless, Mr. Pean was admitted for observation to Room 834 on a surgical floor.

Under the care of a psychiatrist and on medication, Mr. Pean left Texas behind.

I got some contacts for the Pean family and began a sixth-month reporting odyssey.

The police officers said that Mr. Pean had attacked them, throwing a tray table and using his fists.

Mr. Pean still faces a misdemeanor reckless-driving charge, tied to his crash in the hospital parking lot.

Though his father, Harold Pean, and a half-dozen other relatives are physicians, they said they had no idea that guns could be used against patients.

But the day before Christmas, Mr. Pean learned that prosecutors had brought a new charge — reckless driving — against him, referring to his race to the hospital.

In five hours of processing at the Harris County Detention Center, Mr. Pean was interviewed by a detention officer, photographed for a mug shot and fingerprinted.

Mr. Pean said he was informed of the dismissal of the assault charges against him in a phone call to New York, where he is finishing college.

The student, 26-year-old Alan Pean, had come to the hospital for treatment of possible bipolar disorder, accidentally striking several cars while pulling into the parking lot.

While Mr. Pean was in the intensive care unit, he was handcuffed to his bed, even though he was heavily sedated, with a Houston police officer standing guard.

Mr. Pean has denied that he was the aggressor and nurses who cared for him said that even when he was psychotic and delusional, he never threatened them.

During an altercation, two off-duty Houston police officers, moonlighting as security guards, had shocked Mr. Pean with a Taser, fired a bullet into his chest, then handcuffed him.

Mr. Pean, whose parents are black and Latino, has filed a civil rights complaint with the Department of Justice alleging discrimination on the basis of mental illness and race.
|
|
"There's tremendous potential…to be at the table if single-payer becomes a significant part of the political discourse, and create a system that is more equitable," Pean says.
|
|
The same day Mr. Pean was shot, a patient with mental health problems was shot by an off-duty police officer working security at a hospital in Garfield Heights, Ohio.
|
|
James Kennedy, a lawyer representing Mr. Pean, says his client disputes that he was the aggressor and other allegations by the police, but cannot discuss specifics until the charges are resolved.
|
|
When Mr. Pean sounded worse in the evening, his family summoned a fraternity brother in Houston to take him to an emergency room; his parents would fly in the next morning.
|
|
When he pulled back the sheet covering Mr. Pean, he saw that the patient was in handcuffs, his torso dotted with Taser probes and a bloody wound on his upper chest.
|

In interviews with the Medicare investigators and notations in medical records, the nurses who cared for Mr. Pean describe a man who had flashes of lucidity, but was increasingly restless and bizarre.

The two felony assault charges against the student, Alan Pean, 27, were dismissed on March 11 after a grand jury decided not to indict him, according to the Harris County district attorney's office.

Mr. Pean was in the midst of a psychotic episode last August when he was admitted to St. Joseph Medical Center for minor injuries after an automobile accident in the hospital parking lot.

In 1737, Jérôme Trudon, heir of the family, purchased one of the most famous wax producing factories of the times that belonged to Lord Pean de Saint Gilles. The Panhellenic Union of Fighting Youths (PEAN) was perhaps the most active of the small urban resistance groups. It was founded in October 1941 by the Air Force Lieutenant Kostas Perrikos. Aside from its political activities, PEAN is most notable for carrying out two of the largest urban sabotage acts of the entire Occupation: the bombings of the pro-Nazi Organisation of the National Forces of Greece (OEDE) and National-Socialist Patriotic Organisation (ESPO) organizations in August and September 1942. Ta Som () is a small temple at Angkor, Cambodia, built at the end of the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII. It is located north east of Angkor Thom and just east of Neak Pean. The King dedicated the temple to his father Dharanindravarman II (Paramanishkalapada) who was King of the Khmer Empire from 1150 to 1160. The temple consists of a single shrine located on one level and surrounded by enclosure laterite walls.

A group of former army officers, organized into the Army of Enslaved Victors (Stratia Sklavomenon Nikiton) began publishing a newspaper called Great Greece (Megali Ellas). The Panhellenic Union of Fighting Youths (Panellínios Énosis Agonizómenon Néon, or PEAN) published an alternative newspaper called Glory (Doxa) in both German-occupied Athens and the Bulgarian-occupied Macedonia. The pre-war newspaper The Radical (Rizospastis), produced by the Communist Party of Greece, was produced as an underground publication. Other newspaper included Fighting Greece (Mahomeni Ellas).

Surrounded by a moat, it measures 800 by 700 m and encloses an area of . To the east of Preah Khan is a landing stage on the edge of the Jayatataka baray, which measures . This also allowed access to the temple of Neak Pean in the centre of the baray. The Neak Pean temple before the cleanup Parmentier retired in 1932 aged 62. He left his position at the École, received a title of the honorary head of the archaeological department and moved to Phnom Penh. Loch Arkaig (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Airceig) is a body of freshwater in Lochaber, Scotland, to the west of the Great Glen. It is approximately in length and lies above sea level, the maximum depth is some The main tributaries are the Dessarry and the Pean which flow through the glens of the same names, falling into the loch at the extreme west end, by the settlement of Strathan. The mountains of Lochaber lie to the north, and the Forest of Locheil to the south. The outflow is through the River Arkaig at the extreme southeast of the loch, which flows eastwards miles to Loch Lochy, passing Achnacarry.

After the outbreak of the Greco-Italian War in October 1940, Perrikos requested to return to duty. His request was granted on 23 November 1940 and he was forwarded to the front. In June 1941, Perrikos was a founding member of the "Army of Enslaved Victors" (Στρατιά Σκλαβωμένων Νικητών, SSN), one of the first resistance groups to spring up after Greece was overrun by the Germans in April 1941. Dissatisfied by the SSN's neutrality on the crucial issue of the post-war regime in Greece (monarchy or republic), Perrikos and a number of others split off to form the "Panhellenic Union of Fighting Youths" (Πανελλήνιος Ένωσις Αγωνιζόμενων Νέων, PEAN).

Ermine was traditionally used to line the cloaks and caps of the nobility. The shape of the heraldic ermine spot has varied considerably over time, and nowadays is typically drawn as an arrowhead surmounted by three small dots, but older forms may be employed at the artist's discretion. When the field is sable and the ermine spots argent, the same pattern is termed ermines; when the field is or rather than argent, the fur is termed erminois; and when the field is sable and the ermine spots or, it is termed pean. Vair represents the winter coat of the red squirrel, which is blue-grey on top and white underneath.

One of the most important conventions of heraldry is the so-called "rule of tincture". To provide for contrast and visibility, metals should never be placed on metals, and colours should never be placed on colours. This rule does not apply to charges which cross a division of the field, which is partly metal and partly colour; nor, strictly speaking, does it prevent a field from consisting of two metals or two colours, although this is unusual. Furs are considered amphibious, and neither metal nor colour; but in practice ermine and erminois are usually treated as metals, while ermines and pean are treated as colours.

She made her acting debut in the TV series Rak Dai Mai Thar Hua Jai Mai Pean and appeared in roles on TV hits such as Sao Noi Nai Tha Kieng Kaew (2004) and Nang Sao Som Lon. Her first role in film was in the comedy Maa Kap Phra (2006) and she also appeared in the action comedy Bangkok Adrenaline (2009).

Dr. Sterodimas, meanwhile, was trying to recruit Greek youth to create a Greek division of the Waffen SS, but was killed together with other 28 members of ESPO (and 48 German soldiers) when the PEAN resistance group blew up the organization's headquarters in central Athens. His death meant the abandonment of these plans, and the effective end of ESPO. Asia Express's trainer Takahisa Tezuka Asia Express began his races with two starts on the dirt track at Tokyo. On his racecourse debut he contested an event for previously unraced juveniles over 1200 metres on 3 November and won by more than four lengths from Autumn Love. Three weeks later he recorded another wide-margin victory as he came home seven lengths clear of Pean and fourteen others in the Oxalis Sho over 1400 metres. For his final run of the season, Asia Express was switched to the turf and moved up sharply in class for the Grade 1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes over 1600 metres at Nakayama Racecourse on 15 December.

PEAN published a number of newspapers, most important of which was Doxa (Δόξα, "Glory"), first published in April 1942, and gained some popularity among the educated urban youth of Athens. Its most notable achievements, however, are the two bombings carried out by its "destruction squad" (members: Dionysios Papadopoulos, Thanasis Skouras, Antonis Mytilinaios, Spyros Galatis, Dimitrios Lois, Ioulia Bimba). In August 1942, they blew up the headquarters of the Greek pro-Nazi organization OEDE, without causing any casualties. On September 20, the group achieved a more spectacular and ultimately fatal success, when it blew up the headquarters of the National-Socialist Patriotic Organisation (ESPO), the largest Greek National- Socialist organization, in central Athens.

In spite of such economical restrictions, his work was surely impressive and involved many buildings, not only at Ankgor. Sometimes his intervention was limited and consisted in excavation and consolidation, as for East Mebon (1937-1939), Phnom Krom (1938) and Phnom Bok (1939). For other buildings he used partially anastylosis, as in Neak Pean (1938-1939), Preah Khan, Bayon (between 1939 and 1946) and the North Gate of Angkor Thom, but in particular cases he opted for deeper or larger interventions, as in Preah Palilay (1938-1938), Bakong (1936-1944), Banteay Samré (1936-1946) and West Mebon (1943-1944). The extent of his work led George Coedès to assert that Maurice Glaize's name will remain bound to the resurrection of the Khmer capital city of Angkor.

He was born in 1924 in Athens, Greece. During the Axis Occupation of Greece in the Second World War (1941–44), Peponis was an active member of two resistance organizations: the Panhellenic Union of Fighting Youths (PEAN) and the National Coalition of Higher Education Institutions (ESAS), being involved especially in the underground press. After the war he studied Law, and began practice in 1952. In 1951-52, during his studies, he was leader of the Youth Section of the National Progressive Center Union (EPEK). As the general director of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation in 1964-65 he founded the Experimental Channel which began Greek public television. During the Greek military junta of 1967–1974 he was arrested five times, imprisoned, held in solitary confinement, and ordered into internal exile.

Other long-established clubs include ESSO, which focuses on social service outreach; and the PEAN, which is the academy's yearbook. Exeter also has the oldest surviving secondary school society, the Golden Branch (founded in 1818), a society for public speaking, inspired by PEA's Rhetorical Society of 1807–1820. Now known as the Daniel Webster Debate Society, these groups served as America's first secondary school organization for oratory and prepared students for the communication skills required for success at Harvard University. The Model UN club has won the "Best Small Delegation" award at HMUN. Exeter's Mock Trial Association, founded by attorney and historian Walter Stahr, has since 2011 claimed seventeen individual titles, five all- around state titles, and a top-ten spot at the National High School Mock Trial Championship. Close to 80% of students live in the dormitories, with the other 20% commuting from homes within a radius.
