If this sounds like a small achievement, though, think of it this way: Oculus, the NBA, and a production company called m ss ng p eces (prounounced "missing pieces") can get people to sit down and strap potentially motion sickness-inducing goggles to their face for nearly half an hour; play them video stitched together from a nascent, complicated camera setup; and still deliver something with enough style and momentum to keep a non-sports fan like me interested.

As someone who is largely immune from motion sickness and other VR-induced nausea, the wireless adapter combined with PC-power graphics and very little lag created the closest thing to real freedom I've ever experienced in VR. When I played Doom VFR wire-free, after taking a minute to appreciate my new untethered boundaries, I was soon spinning around like a top, blasting demons and other hellspawn with the sort of breakneck speed that up till now, I think VR has been really lacking.

WATCH THIS: Take a Tour Through Hogsmeade and Hogwarts Castle with "Harry Potter's" Luna Lovegood Luckily, the vast majority of the thrill rides at Universal are actually "simulators" — you sit in a small theater-like environment with a massive screen in front of you, and the theater tilts, pivots and turns to create a feeling that you are truly falling or flying — which provided excellent peace of mind for my more nervous dude that we weren't really hurtling through the air (even though it sure felt like it on the Simpsons ride!) While the simulators may not be ideal if you're prone to motion sickness, we made it through each and every one unscathed (and I've been known to get car sick reading a text message).
