Marțolea is a demonic entity in Romanian mythology (especially in the regions of Bukovina and Maramureș). The entity's gender is unclear, as it can shapeshift at will. It lives up in the mountains and descends on Tuesday nights to lure with its singing and punish the women caught working. Called also Marț Sara (the old Romanian words for "Tuesday Evening") is a malefic entity, who demands the semi-holy day of Tuesday to be respected and who forbids four women's chores: spinning of the wool, sowing, boiling laundry and baking bread.

B. Suryanarain Rao in his commentary on Brihat Jataka states that the 3rd, the 6th, the 10th and the 11th bhavas are termed upachayas for their power of improving men’s fortune. Amongst these four bhavas the 6th house is simultaneously an apoklima, an upachayasthana and a dustasthana but it is not as bad as the 8th and 12th. The 3rd, the 6th,and the 11th bhavas are also known as the houses of resistance to disease and relate to immune system; malefic planets situated therein tend to destroy diseases and increase immunity. Benefic planets occupying the 6th house do not confer good results but are not bad when situated in the 3rd or the 11th.

The results of Saraswati yoga basically depend upon the sign rising in the lagna and upon the bhavas owned and the signs occupied by the three yoga-causing natural benefics. Hindu astrology has taken due care in handling the sensitive issue of establishing one’s parentage when it is in doubt. The text books describe several yogas that establish a new-born’s paternity, or foretell its adoption or abandonment, but which yogas are meant to be judicially applied taking into account other relevant factors; they are not to be applied word for word. Parajāta yogas highlight the affliction caused by malefic influences on the lagna, on the Chandra-lagna (Moon-sign) and the Moon, and on Jupiter, the Karaka (significator) of children and the 5th house (the Sutabhava) counted from the lagna, the Moon and Jupiter. Add up the number of Rekhas (malefic points) contributed by Saturn in the houses from the lagna to that occupied by Saturn, this figure will indicate the age at which adversity will strike the native; add up the rekhas contributed by Saturn from the house occupied by Saturn to lagna, this figure will indicate the age at which the native will suffer most severe physical adversity, and even death if so indicated by the maraka-dasha operating.

The lords of the 3rd, the 6th and the 11th bhavas do not give good results in their respective dasa-bhukti. Benefic planets occupying these houses give happiness during childhood and malefic planets give happiness in old age.

Vedha (वेध), meaning – Obstruction, is the power of a planet to influence favourably (by benefic planets) or unfavourably through obstruction (by malefic planets), the influence is stronger when the planets influenced and influencing are exalted or retrograde but weaker if they be debilitated; a favourable vedha can nullify an adverse vedha. Mansagari tells us that one vedha results in conflict, two vedhas result in loss of wealth, three vedhas indicate defeat or failure, and four vedhas indicate death; one vedha of a papa-graha results in misunderstanding, jealousy, ill-feelings etc.; two vedhas indicate loss, three vadhas indicate illness and four vedhas indicate death. In case the Janam nakshatra suffers vedha then travel or meaningless wandering is indicated, if it suffers Akshara-vedha – loss, if it suffers Swara-vedha – illness, if it suffers Tithi–vedha – fear, if it suffers Rasi-vedha – great opposition or grave calamity, and if it simultaneously suffers from all five vedhas death is certain.

The respective lords of the 2nd and the 11th house both associating with Jupiter make one very wealthy; they should also preferably be influenced by the lord of a trikonabhava which bhavas are the significators of good fortune, prosperity and great wealth. Any association of the lords of the 2nd, the 11th, the 5th and the 9th bhavas, strong and mutually inclined, indicates gain of wealth. According to Jataka Parijata any exalted planet or a planet occupying its exaltation navamsa if aspecting the Moon makes a person neither covet nor possess wealth even though Saravali states that the Moon aspected by the exalted lord of the lagna gives rise to Raja yoga.

For example, if Saturn is in Leo, Jupiter in the 12th (in Virgo) and the navamsa of Aries is devoid of a malefic, one born in Nirmalamsa does not incur Chandra Dosha (blemished Moon to cause Balarishta) Sloka 859 of Chandra Kala Nadi Mahadeva in his Jataka Tattva states that the Moon, weak and lustreless, situated in a sign owned by Venus, causes Balarishta, and the child dies at the age of seven years.

According to the basic principles of Hindu astrology the signs that are owned by natural benefics are auspicious signs as also those that are even signs and the shirshodaya signs (those rising with the head first); the odd signs, prashtodaya signs (those rising with their hind-portion first) and the signs owned by natural malefic are not auspicious signs; benefics become more benefic by occupying shirshodya signs. However, Jatakadeshmarga (p. 171) explains that natural malefics confer good results if they are not evilly inclined and are strong in shadabala i.e. occupy own, friendly or exalted rasi, hora, drekkena, navamsa, dwadasamsa and trimsamsa, and thus occupying benefic vargas (sub-divisions of signs) are aspected by benefics occupying benefic vargas; natural benefics that are weak in shadabala and occupying evil vargas are aspected by evil planets occupying evil vargas do not confer good results expected of them. Power and fame are associated with the lagna or the Chandra-lagna, the 9th and the 10th house counted from these lagnas whichever is stronger; these houses and their respective lords should be strong and not afflicted.

If the 2nd, 4th and 5th become equal (in strength etc.) to the Karaka, the person becomes a Raja or equal to him or when the 3rd and the 6th bhavas from Atmakaraka (the planet most advanced in a sign) are equal in strength or if they are joined by malefic, or if from the lords of lagna and the 7th house benefic planets occupy the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 8th house. If to the lord of the lagna or to the lord of 7th, the 5th house is occupied by Jupiter, Venus or the Moon, the person becomes a high Government official and wields political power. If the lord of the lagna aspects the lagna and if the lord of the Karaka lagna aspects that lagna, the person will have very good Raja yogas. The Sun and Jupiter are the karakas ('significators') of the 10th house, any kind of sambandha ('mutual association') established by these two makes one adept and shine in his/her chosen field of creative/scientific/religious/philosophical activity, become a high-ranking official or advisor and famous.

If the lord of the lagna is very strong, is in the varga of benefic planets, is exalted, is with a friendly planet, is in the navamsa belonging to itself, is associated with a benefic, is the lord of a kendra then one has best affluence, fame, wealth, grains and prosperity. Which ever be the house occupied by a planet if the lord of the sign is badly placed that house suffers. If Jupiter is located in a kendra and if the lord of the lagna is strong and occupies Parvatamsa the native is happy with wife, sons, friends and wealth; if Venus is in Devalokamsa and the lord of the lagna is in Gopuramsa and the lagna is aspected by a benfic the native is happy in middle and old age, and the good situation of the lagna, the 10th house and the Sun leads to good name and fame in life.

However, there are three great differences between Western astrology and Hindu astrology in computing these aspects - (1) in the former system the count is made from degree to degree, in the latter system the count is made from sign to sign, (2) in the former system the aspect will be mutually the same i.e. if Mars and Jupiter are in trine it can be expressed as either Mars Trine Jupiter or Jupiter Trine Mars, in the latter system if Jupiter is in Aries and Mars in Leo, Jupiter will have full aspect on Mars but Mars will have 50% aspect on Jupiter and, (3) in the former system certain aspects such as sextile are good whereas square and opposition are evil, the latter system does not have such classification in which system aspects by benefic planets and those owning trines i.e. the 5th and the 9th, are always good, and by malefic planets and those owning cadent houses i.e. the 6th, 8th or 12th, are always evil; moreover, the aspect of any planet on its own sign strengthens that house and causes no harm to its indications.

Vaidyanatha Dikshita in his Jataka Parijata states that a planet will give better or exceptional results if it is situated in the centre of the bhava occupied by it, the results will minimise the more it is removed from the centre or if it has gained more and more benefic bindus in the Sarva Ashtakavarga or if it occupies the lagna, the 10th or the 11th house or it is exalted, in own or friendly vargas or occupies favourable bhavas in yoga with benefic bhava-lords and karakas. The mahadasa of the planet owning the sign occupied by either Mandi or Gulika or in conjunction with Mandi or gaining very few benefic bindus or occupying its inimical or debilitation sign or combust or afflicted by papa-grahas or in Rasi-sandhi or in Bhava-sandhi or in adverse association with malefics will give poor results.Gopesh Kumar Ojha (1994), Jataka Parijata, Motilal Banarsidas, Delhi, India, p. 1031. The results of the planetary periods or dashas depend on the specific strength or weakness of the concerned planet; for the planet to give its best results it should be strong in Shadabala and auspiciously placed with reference to the lagna without being afflicted by inimical malefic planets.
