He also singled out the "serious", "uncomplicated and unostentatious" interiors. His lengthy review concluded that the memorial was "a brilliant, sensitive design" and "a memorable public place".

These niches, and the apse, are inlaid with red granite from Texas. The rear wall of these niches is carved with either oak leaves or laurel leaves, symbols of bravery and victory. Between these niches are rectangular doorways which pierce the wall of the Hemicycle and provide access to the stairways leading into the interior. A fountain with 200 jets of water is placed in the center of the apse.

The mansion was designed by the architect Henrik Wallin (1873-1936) in 1917 in an Italian Renaissance Revival style with interior elements of various established and experimental styles. The ten-bedroom home has nearly 26,000 square feet of living area. It is three stories over a full garden level with Granite balustraded terraces at each level. The CFA wanted these moved back even more, and the pleaching removed so that almost nothing was screened.

Henri Beraldi, Les Graveurs du XIXe siècle, vol VIII, 1889, p. 79. In 1831 his engraving after Louis Hersent's Abdication of Gustavus Vasa established his reputation and won him the légion d'honneur. He then worked for six years on his masterwork, an engraving of Paul Delaroche's Hemicycle of the fine arts - this engraving won an honorary medal at the 1853 Paris Salon. In 1849 he was elected a member of the Académie des beaux-arts.

Over the course of the early thirteenth century construction probably progressed westward after the completion of the eastern chevet. The nave, or central vessel of the church, is seven bays in length and was originally flanked by one aisle on each side. The elevation of the nave consists of three stories: nave arcade, triforium, and clerestory. The nave columns appear distantly related to Notre-Dame de Paris but closer prototypes can be found in the hemicycle of Rouen Cathedral.

The low water feature in the central niche was now gone, replaced with a ring of jets which would send water about into the air.Hass, p. 113. The CFA was now satisfied with the Hemicycle, although it still had reservations about the trees in front of the cemetery gates. Weiss and Manfredi agreed to create a full-scale mock-up of the gates and show them to the CFA so that the issue could be resolved.

The three rows to the right were reserved for government officials and other people attending the meetings. At the new LegCo site at Tamar, members sit facing the President (and council officers) in a hemicycle seating arrangement.

First, a bill is introduced to parliament either by a member of government or, in the case of a private member's bill, by any individual representative. By 1933, most of what remained of the Arlington Memorial Bridge project concerned streets and approaches. Virginia still had not settled on a route for any roads to link to the bridge, and work on Memorial Drive was nearing completion. In the District of Columbia, work remained to be done on Constitution Avenue NW and on 23rd Street NW. The Hemicycle was still incomplete, as were bridges leading from Columbia Island to the Virginia shoreline. Funding sources for these projects, however, was diversifying.

Today on its sides, more secluded, there are the windows of the exits of the subway line 1. The square was redesigned and refurnished just for the works for the subway, concluded in 2002. The entire hemicycle has thus become a pedestrian area. Still, at the square there are four monumental churches: in the anti- clockwise direction from the north is the Immaculate Conception of the Sanitary Operators, Santa Maria di Caravaggio, San Domenico Soriano and San Michele in Port'Alba.

The Congress scheduled the election of the new members to the Constitutional Court of Peru for September 30. On September 30, the prime minister Salvador del Solar went to the Legislative Palace to request the approval of an amendment to the Organic Law of the Constitutional Court as a matter of confidence. However, the Congress scheduled the minister to the afternoon. While the congress started the debate for the election of the new judges, the prime minister entered the Congress hemicycle room.

Vaught also correctly guessed that it would be easier to win approval of the Hemicycle site for the memorial than a National Mall space. With federal law allowing the foundation only five years to raise the funds for and construct the memorial, Vaught wished to move ahead with the less-than-perfect site rather than risk the memorial altogether battling for a mall spot.Hass, p. 105. The Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) had statutory authority to approve the siting of the memorial.

The Hemicycle was built to create a ceremonial gate, and to honor the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington (the first President of the United States and American Revolutionary War hero). A number of public improvements and memorials were planned for construction in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to celebrate the bicentennial of Washington's birth.Bruggeman, p. 64. Among these were Arlington Memorial Bridge and the Mount Vernon Memorial Parkway (now known as the George Washington Memorial Parkway).Goode, p. 12.

In the port area are the Pemex Tower, the old lighthouse, which was the seat of government for Venustiano Carranza, and the Crafts Market. On Marina Mercante Street are located the Old Customs Building, the Postal and Telegraph twin buildings, as well as the old railroad terminal. In the 1920s, passenger traffic was such that the station had its own hotel. The Juarez Hemicycle Monument stands in front of the Civil Registry Building, which contains the first birth certificate issued in the country.

The main building has a rectangular plan and is on three floors. The structure is typical of the Venetian Villas. A Far Cry describes itself as self- conducted and operates with rotating leadership and no conductor. All artistic decisions are made by vote, and the orchestra members handle all the artistic management and promotion of the ensemble. A Far Cry has close ties to the New England Conservatory (NEC) as well as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, where it is ensemble-in-residence. Hemicycle of European Parliament, Strasbourg, with chamber orchestra performing-2 The orchestra Spira Mirabilis, formed in 2007, is a European classical orchestra functioning without a conductor.

He also created and edited several contemporary journals and newspapers during the 1890s promoting his Idealist aesthetic including L'Art Idéaliste and La Lumière. Delville was an energetic artistic entrepreneur, creating several influential artistic exhibition societies, including Pour l'Art and the Salons de l'Art Idéaliste in the 1890s and later, the Société de l'Art Monumental in the 1920s which was responsible for the decoration of public buildings including the mosaics in the hemicycle of the Cinquantenaire in Brussels. He also founded the very successful Coopérative artistique, which provided affordable art materials for artists at the time.

The Sloan House was called a "solar house" by the Chicago Tribune, the first modern use of that term. Sloan then built a number of passive solar houses, and his publicity efforts contributed to a significant "solar house" movement in the 1940s. Frank Lloyd Wright used passive solar principles in some of his designs, most notably in the Jacobs House, built in 1944 in Wisconsin, which was also known as the "Solar Hemicycle" or "Solar Hemicyclo." In the United States, interest in passive solar building design was significantly stimulated by the 1973 oil crisis.

Herbert and Katherine Jacobs Second House is a historic house located at 3995 Shawn Trail in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. Built in 1946-48, the house was the second of two designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for journalist Herbert Jacobs and his wife Katherine. The house's design is unique among Wright's works; he called the style the "Solar Hemicycle" due to its semicircular layout and use of natural materials to conserve solar energy. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and declared a National Historic Landmark in 2003.

On 31 January, Marine Le Pen (Front National) filed a parliamentary request in the European Parliament asking about the funding of WhyEurope through the European Commission. Commissioner Günther Oettinger, then responsible person for the EU budget, replied that the Commission has not funded WhyEurope in any way and the name were not found within the central accounting system. November 2017, WhyEurope has been awarded European Public Communication Award by the European Committee Of The Regions. The prize was received during the EuroPCom in the hemicycle of the European Parliament.

Wenceslao Lara Orellana (born 28 August 1962 in San Pedro Sula) is a Honduran politician, currently serves as deputy of the National Congress of Honduras representing the Liberal Party of Honduras for Cortés. Profile at the National Congress of Honduras website Orellana is the brother of the also deputy and former Puerto Cortés mayor Marlon Guillermo Lara Orellana. He was first elected in 2006. In 2008 Lara was accused by feminist groups that pleaded with the Congress to expulse him of the hemicycle due to a domestic violence case.

The accent panels and coffers in the apse were inlaid with red granite from Texas. The Great Seal of the United States was carved in granite in the center of the apse arch, while on either side were seals of the United States Department of the Army (south) and the United States Department of the Navy (north).Peters, p. 284; Dunham-Jones and LeBlanc, p. 41. Along the facade of the Hemicycle were 10 false doors or niches which were intended to house sculptures, memorial reliefs, and other artworks (which would act as memorials).

Saavedra told the press that he would not resign before the censorship request. On December 15, the minister's censorship debate was held, obtaining as a final result 78 votes in favor, none against and no abstention (due to the fact that the benches of Peruvians for Change and Open Front, against the censorship, they retired of the hemicycle before the voting). Saavedra was given a period of 72 hours to present his resignation letter. On December 17, Saavedra resigned and the following day she was sworn in by educator Marilú Martens.

Due to delays on Wright's part, construction did not begin until 1946, and most of the work did not take place until 1948. By this point, Wright had become offended by a comment Herbert had made in We Chose the Country, one of his works, and he left the couple to build the house themselves without his guidance. The house's garage Wright gave the house a unique design which he called a "Solar Hemicycle". The house's plan is a segment of a circle, a design which Wright borrowed from an unbuilt plan he made for Lloyd Burlingham in 1942.

The European Parliament has five buildings in the quarter. It previously used the hemicycle of the Council of Europe to hold its meetings until 1999 when it completed its main building, the Louise Weiss building, across the river from the Palace of Europe. It is connected by a bridge to its older office buildings, Pierre Pflimlin, Winston Churchill and Salvador de Madariaga, which are spread out in a broad half circle around the Palace of Europe. The Václav Havel building, inaugurated on 5 July 2017, was originally built in 1955 for the Council of Europe, which used it as "Building B" until 2007.

Members are arranged in a hemicycle according to their political groups (in the Common Assembly, prior to 1958, members sat alphabetically) who are ordered mainly by left to right, but some smaller groups are placed towards the outer ring of the Parliament. All desks are equipped with microphones, headphones for translation and electronic voting equipment. Many scholars of Puvis's works have noted that his success as a 'painter for France' was largely due to his ability to create works which were agreeable to the many ideologies in existence at this time. His first Parisian commission was for a cycle at the church of Saint Genevieve, which is now the secular Pantheon, begun in 1874. His two subjects were L'Education de Sainte Geneviève and La Vie Pastoral de Sainte Geneviève. This commission was followed by works at the Sorbonne, namely the enormous hemicycle, The Sacred Grove or L'Ancienne Sorbonne amongst the muses in the Grand Amphitheater of the Sorbonne.

The Women In Military Service For America Memorial, also known as Military Women's Memorial, is a memorial established by the U.S. federal government which honors women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The memorial is located at the western end of Memorial Avenue at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, in the United States. The structure in which the memorial is housed was originally known as the Hemicycle, and built in 1932 to be a ceremonial entrance to the cemetery. It never served this purpose, and was in disrepair by 1986.

In 2003, a hemicycle dedicated to Benito Juárez was added. While it is considered to be a park, the plaza is often filled with stands on market days and during festivals, but most cultural events take place at the esplanade of the municipal palace. The green areas of the plaza contain sculptures of lions made of iron, but unlike real lions, these are shown with nopal plants, with a boa constrictor and other poses and were donated by the former owners of the Hacienda of Chapingo. For this reason the plaza is also called the Jardin de Leones (Lion Garden).

Seating in the debating chamber is arranged in a semicircle, with ministers sitting in the front section of the semicircle, directly opposite the presiding officer and parliamentary clerks. The debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament has seating arranged in a hemicycle, a design which is common across European legislatures, intended to encourage consensus and compromise. There are 131 seats in the debating chamber. Of the total 131 seats, 129 are occupied by the Parliament's elected MSPs and two are seats for the Scottish Law Officers—the Lord Advocate and the Solicitor General for Scotland, who are not elected members of the Parliament but are members of the Scottish Government.

The court was incomplete when Bramante died in 1514. It was finished by Pirro Ligorio for Pius IV in 1562-65\. To the great open-headed exedra at the end of the uppermost terrace, Ligorio added a third story, enclosing the central space with a vast half-dome to form the largest niche that had been erected since antiquity-- the nicchione ("great niche") visible today from several elevated outlooks around Rome (illustration). He completed his structure with an uppermost loggia that repeated the hemicycle of the niche and took its cue from scholarly reconstructions of the ancient sanctuary dedicated to Fortuna Primigenia at Praeneste, south of Rome.

The decision was made in 1838, and the construction of the lateral canal to the Garonne was entrusted to the divisional inspector of bridges and causeways, Jean-Baptiste de Baudre. Beginning in 1857, it connected Toulouse to Castets-en-Dorthe and ensured the junction from the port de l'Embouchure with the Canal du Midi, together taking the name of Canal des Deux-Mers. A third bridge was built over the third canal, connecting to the other two and giving the port, once again enlarged on this occasion, the shape of a hemicycle. A work of art and civil engineering, it was enhanced by the bas-relief of the sculptor François Lucas.

Institutions may also issue recommendations and opinions which are merely non-binding, declarations. There is a further document which does not follow normal procedures, this is a "written declaration" which is similar to an early day motion used in the Westminster system. It is a document proposed by up to five MEPs on a matter within the EU's activities used to launch a debate on that subject. Having been posted outside the entrance to the hemicycle, members can sign the declaration and if a majority do so it is forwarded to the President and announced to the plenary before being forwarded to the other institutions and formally noted in the minutes.

These have produced a building complex which is characterized by alterations typical of a general architectural degradation. Hemicycle of Villa Belvedere Further, at the beginning of the 20th century, Villa Belvedere, by now a condominium, lost its status as one of the few buildings on the Vomero hill. Construction of new buildings deprived the villa of its status as a 'paradise of delights' surrounded by greenery, and, over the years, buildings of all sizes and kinds rose, ousting its greenery, as the zone got progressively lotted out. New entrances to the villa were opened along the via Aniello Falcone, leveraging the few interstices spared by the urbanization.

National Park Service officials testified that the memorial would help restore and enhance the Hemicycle, while United States Army personnel stated that it would help correct the impression that only men had contributed to war-fighting efforts. Vaught testified that it was the intent of the Foundation to build an educational memorial, one which would incorporate a computer room, exhibits, and a theater. She pledged that no memorial would be built which detracted from the dignity of Arlington National Cemetery. CFA chair J. Carter Brown responded very positively during the hearing, noting how the memorial would preserve and restore a decrepit landmark and that the location was very apropos.

The new design modified the Hemicycle by restoring a low water feature to the central niche and removing the grass circle, replacing it with a circular reflecting pool and paved plaza. The center of the plaza was slightly lowered, and very low terraces led from the edge of the pool to the edge of the plaza. Four niches were still pierced to create stairs leading up to the terrace, but now an elevator was added as well to make the memorial handicap-accessible. The tall illuminated pylons were removed, and in their place were 108 horizontal thick glass panels forming an arc in the back of the Hemicycle's terrace.

In the semicircle around the monument were crypts containing the remains of a number of socialist militants, such as Ștefan Gheorghiu (trade unionist), Ion C. Frimu, Leontin Sălăjan, Alexandru Moghioroş, Lucrețiu Pătrășcanu (after his rehabilitation), Grigore Preoteasa, Ilie Pintilie and Constantin Dobrogeanu-Gherea. To the right of the monument was a hemicycle containing the funeral urns of Communist militants, including , Constantin David, Ada Marinescu, Panait Mușoiu, Barbu Lăzăreanu, Simion Stoilow and Mihail Macavei. When it was built, an eternal flame burned on an upper terrace near the monument, in a granite amphora. This was intended to preserve the memory of those who had fought on behalf of the working class.

Rectangular halls connected to the hemicycle have been suggested to be libraries because of their similar set-up to those in the Baths of Caracalla. Historians, to support this theory, have demonstrated that these halls with their niches could properly house scrolls and/or codices. (The author of the Life of Probus mentions that part of the Bibliotheca Ulpia, was located in the Forum of Trajan, and part within the Baths of Trajan, although he later contradicts that statement when referring to the Bibliotheca Ulpia). The presence of similar spaces in the Baths of Caracalla and the Baths of Trajan therefore makes it not unreasonable to assume that the baths of Diocletian contained a library.

In 2008, Eurochambres organised the first "European Parliament of Enterprises" that gathered some 774 European businesses of all sizes and from all sectors in the European Parliament hemicycle in Brussels. The opening session was led by Hans-Gert Pöttering (President of the European Parliament), José Manuel Barroso (President of the European Commission), Hervé Novelli (French Minister of State for Business, Trade, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Tourism and Services) and Pierre Simon (then President of Eurochambres). Three sessions of debates and votes followed, each in the presence of a Member of the European Parliament and a European Commissioner. Further editions of the event were also organised in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, in coordination with the European Parliament.

The school has its roots in the 15th century, when Pope Sixtus IV granted the Oratory of St. Luke; in 1577, under Pope Gregory XIII, the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, now Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma was founded. In the following two centuries the seats multiplied, until in 1845 the Istituto delle Belle Arti was born under the papacy of Pope Gregory XVI; the aim was to gather the art students in one location. The building intended to house the institute was the Palazzo Camerale in via di Ripetta, designed and built for this purpose by the architect Pietro Camporese the Younger. The palace is commonly referred as the "horseshoe", due to its hemicycle-shaped facade.

Cicero Denounces Catiline Palazzo Madama and the adjacent buildings underwent further restructuring and adaptation in the first decades of the 20th century. A radical transformation which involved, among other things, the modernization of the hemicycle, the full remaking of the prospectus on Via San Salvatore and Via Dogana Vecchia, and the establishment of a connection with the adjacent Palazzo Carpegna. The latter, owned by the Senate, was entirely rebuilt in an advanced position compared to its original position. The small church of San Salvatore in Thermis, dating to the 6th century, which stood in the street to the left of the palace, was first closed, expropriated and later razed for security reasons.

Due to the failure of leaders to agree on a single seat, the Parliament desired full infrastructure in both Brussels and Strasbourg, where the parliament's official seat is located. In Brussels an international congress centre (unofficially intended as the Parliament) was built with the backing of the Generale Maatschappij/Société Générale and BACOB who joined forces on the project in 1987. The project was built on an old brewery and marshalling yard including the covering of the Luxembourg railway station to form a pedestrian area.European Commission publication: Europe in Brussels 2007 The building project started before 1988 with building work on the hemicycle and the north wing starting in 1989 and the south wing in 1992.

Congress subsequently authorized construction of Kendall's bridge on February 24, 1925. The legislation authorizing construction of the bridge also provided for the construction of approaches (on-ramps, off-ramps, and pedestrian areas) on both the D.C. and Virginia ends of the bridge; for the improvement of B Street NW as a new ceremonial avenue to link to the bridge; and for the construction of a roadway (eventually called Memorial Drive) between the bridge and the main gate of Arlington National Cemetery as well as a new ceremonial entrance at this gate (subsequently known as the Hemicycle). Preliminary designs for the bridge showed it terminating on Columbia Island,"Island to Be Remade in New Bridge Plans." Washington Post. April 15, 1925.

Villalpando was careful in his handling of line and light in his compositions, used to develop the subject or action. In the case of this work, the dynamism of the group of angels behind the Virgin Mary contrasts with the static nature of the principal figure, whose central position is accentuated by a precise, classical rendering. The use of the “hemicycle of angels” seems to be not simply a scenographic and decorative resource, but rather a constant in the way Villalpando handled this theme. As for the subject itself, the veneration of the sorrows of the Virgin Mary had developed since the 16th century and was deeply rooted in New Spain, as it would continue to be later in Mexico.

The Liberal/National Coalition government required at least nine additional votes to reach a Senate majority. Generally speaking, Senators broadly aligned with the government (such as those affiliated with the Australian Conservatives, One Nation, the Liberal Democratic Party, and Derryn Hinch) sit on the same side of the crossbench as the government benches, while those more aligned with the opposition, such as the Greens, sit on the same side of the crossbench as the opposition benches. This tends not to be the case in the House of Representatives, both due to the different electoral system, which means fewer crossbenchers are elected, and the fact that the official government and opposition frontbenches extend across the inner rim of the entire hemicycle.

The parliamentary hemicycle of the Paul-Henri Spaak building in Brussels Brussels is already the seat of the two other political institutions, the Commission and Council of Ministers (including the European Council). In addition, the Parliament has already geared three quarters of its activity in the city. Third-party organisations are also based in the city, including NGOs, trade unions, employers' organisations and the highest concentration of journalists in the world—also due to the presence of NATO in the city in addition to the large presence of Union institutions. While Strasbourg campaigners see being based in Strasbourg as an aid to independence of MEPs, Brussels' campaigners state it is merely reducing the institution's influence by "exiling" them away from the other major institutions.

The ground floor of the Brandt building houses a visitors' centre on the ground floor, originally planned to open in time for the 2009 European election but it had been delayed by a year. With 6,000 square metres it will be the second largest Parliamentary visitors centre in the world, modelled on the Swedish and Danish centres, with a state- of-the-art interactive role play allowing visitors to simulate the work of an MEP in a mock hemicycle – debating and passing legislation.Banks, Martin (30 January 2008) New visitor centre set to open in EU parliament, TheParliament.

To boost the Memorial's chances, Vaught split the project in two. Vaught realized that rehabilitation of the Hemicycle was a different project from memorial construction. Fund-raising for the preservation project might be avoided, she argued, if preservation grants were sought from federal agencies. So in November 1993, grant-seeking by WMSAMF began. By February 1994, the Foundation had secured a $9.5 million grant from the U.S. Air Force to repair and restore the Hemicycle.Zirschky, p. 41-48.Dola, p. 23-31. In July 1994, the Foundation established a goal of raising $2 million by April 1995. This would give the Memorial $4 million, so that groundbreaking could occur even if the total amount of funds needed for the Memorial had not yet been collected.

Leaving Florence in April 1847 for what was intended to be a brief return to London, he ended up staying. Back in Britain he was unable to obtain a building in which to carry out his plan of a grand fresco based on his Italian experiences, though he did produce a 45 ft by 40 ft fresco on the upper part of the east wall of the Great Hall of Lincoln's Inn entitled Justice, A Hemicycle of Lawgivers (completed 1859), inspired by Raphael's The School of Athens. In consequence most of his major works are conventional oil paintings, some of which were intended as studies for the House of Life. In his studio he met Henry Thoby Prinsep (for 16 years a member of the Council of India) and his wife Sara (née Pattle).

On the opposite side of the hemicycle the respective ex- convents are situated in addition to the churches of Santa Maria di Caravaggio and San Domenico Soriano: the first became the seat of the institute for the visually impaired founded by Domenico Martuscelli (remembered with his bust carved in 1922 by Luigi De Luca is located in the gardens of the square) and then became the seat of the Second Municipality of Naples. The second convent is now the seat of the municipal registry offices. Between the two entrances is the Palazzo Ruffo di Bagnara with an adjoining private chapel while on the left side of Port'Alba is the splendid Palazzo Rinuccini. Not far from the square at number 7 of vico Luperano, the villa Conigliera, the latter built during the Aragonese era.

Parliament built a hemicycle in Brussels to be closer to the other institutions Despite the 1965 agreement, the Parliament's seat remained a source of contention. Wishing to be closer to the activities in Brussels and Luxembourg City, a few plenary sessions were held by the Parliament between 1967 and 1981 in Luxembourg City instead of Strasbourg—against the wishes of France—and in 1981 it returned to holding sessions entirely in Strasbourg. In the previous year it unsuccessfully issued an ultimatum to the national governments, attempting to force them to reach an agreement. Thus, the Parliament moved some of its decision-making bodies to Brussels, along with its committee and political group meetings, and in 1985 it also built a plenary chamber in Brussels for some part-sessions.

Arlington National Cemetery and the Netherlands Carillon in December 2012 Arlington National Cemetery is a United States military cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., in whose the dead of the nation's conflicts have been buried, beginning with the Civil War, as well as reinterred dead from earlier wars. The United States Department of the Army, a component of the United States Department of Defense (DoD), controls the cemetery. The national cemetery was established during the Civil War on the grounds of Arlington House, previously the estate of Mary Anna Custis Lee, a great-granddaughter of Martha Washington and wife of Robert E. Lee. The Cemetery, along with Arlington House, Memorial Drive, the Hemicycle, and Arlington Memorial Bridge, form the Arlington National Cemetery Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in April 2014.

Previous to this the greatest dome was that of the Pantheon at Rome, but this was carried on an immense wall thick, and with the exception of small niches or recesses in the thickness of the wall could not be extended, so that Justinian apparently instructed his architect to provide an immense hemicycle or apse at the eastern end, a similar apse at the western end, and great arches on either side, the walls under which would be pierced with windows. Unlike the Pantheon dome, the upper portions of which are made of concrete, Byzantine domes were made of brick, which were lighter and thinner, but more vulnerable to the forces exerted onto them. Most of the European Union's Brussels-based institutions are located within its European Quarter (, ), which is the unofficial name of the area corresponding to the approximate triangle between Brussels Park, Cinquantenaire Park and Leopold Park (with the European Parliament's hemicycle extending into the latter). The Commission and Council are located in the heart of this area near Schuman station at the Schuman roundabout on Rue de la Loi. The European Parliament is located over Brussels-Luxembourg station, next to Luxembourg Square. The area, much of which was known as the Leopold Quarter for much of its history, was historically residential, an aspect which was rapidly lost as the institutions moved in, although the change from a residential area to a more office oriented one had already been underway for some time before the arrival of the European institutions.

The Salle des Conferences The Salle des Conferences is a large room with tables and lamps on the east side of the Hemicycle, where the Deputies can read, talk and check their messages. It was originally the dining room of the Prince de Condé, then was transformed in 1830 into its present use. The ceiling is richly decorated with paintings by Heim on the history of the monarchy and parliaments, and on by the fireplace are large historical paintings on parliamentary subjects; Philip le Bel Brings assembles the Estates General in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame by Auguste Vinchon, and The Patriotic Devotion of the Bourgeois of Calais by Ary Scheffer. Next to the Salles des Conferences is the Deputies Buffet, which was created in 1994 in the Belle Époque style and renovated in the same style in 1997.

Recognising the importance of educating children for democracy from the early ages, the Council of Europe offered to them a dedicated space, “Children’s Forum”, to allow them to express freely, to participate, to learn voting as the parliamentarians do, to cast their vote, to learn and ask questions about their rights, to innovate, in a context which allowed their voice heard at European level. On 3 March 2016, the Council of Europe hosted in its hemicycle the Children's Forum, an event part of the World Forum for Democracy. 1200 students from 45 primary schools of Alsace region, France, who took part in a civic education project run by the Alsatian Themis Association, came to present their proposals for enhancing democracy and human rights. The proposals were focused on one of the following three main themes: living together and participation, citizens of Internet, and all different, all equal.

The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, commonly known as the Sakharov Prize, honours individuals and groups of people who have dedicated their lives to the defense of human rights and freedom of thought. Named after Russian scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov, the prize was established in December 1988 by the European Parliament. A shortlist of nominees is drawn up annually by the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Committee on Development. The MEPs who make up those committees then select a shortlist in September."Sakharov Prize 2018: three finalists selected", News—European Parliament, 10 September 2018. Thereafter, the final choice is given to The European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents (President and political group’s leaders) and the laureate's name is announced late in October. The prize is awarded in a ceremony at the Parliament’s Strasbourg hemicycle (round chamber) in December. The prize includes a monetary award of €50,000.

History of the domain, Institution des Invalides de la Legion Etrangere Due to the generosity of the friends of the Foreign Legion and all Legion officers, sous-officiers, and legionnaires, a vast hemicycle structure was built, capable of housing all the needing veterans of the French Foreign Legion. Built since 1953 and inaugurated on May 15, 1955 by général Kœnig, this center followed the Moral Service of the Legion () which was attached in a part at the corps of the garrisons, in charge of welcoming conversions of the legionnaires that were wounded or sick and also is in charge of reforming soldiers to be able to adapt to normal life and surroundings. This center, equally designated as Domain Captain Danjou (the officer who commanded a legion detachment which illustrated capability at Camarón) is financed by the different legion units. The domain, also houses as well the Legionnaire Uniform Museum.

The ceremony of the Sakharov Prize awarded to Aung San Suu Kyi by Schulz, inside the European Parliament's Strasbourg hemicycle, in 2013 Following the 2009 European elections Schulz came to public attention when he insisted that his group should not immediately approve a second term of office for European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and instead, together with the Chair of the Green Group in the European Parliament, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, proposed the Belgian Liberal Guy Verhofstadt as a candidate for that office. Following reassurances by Barroso, Schulz dropped his categorical opposition to him, insisting only that he should make certain political concessions to the Social Democrats. As a result, the majority of the group abstained on the confidence vote to Barroso. Schulz meeting with the Turkish opposition politician Selahattin Demirtaş, who was later arrested On 15 September 2011, members of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament unanimously nominated Schulz as their candidate for the President of the European Parliament.

Entrance to the Villa Albani from via Salaria, 92 Planned in 1743, the building of the villa began in 1747 according to Giuseppe Vasi and was celebrated as complete in 1763. Its purpose was to house Cardinal Albani's evolving and renewed collections of antiquities and ancient Roman sculpture, which soon filled the casino that faced the Villa down a series of formal parterres. The villa with its collection, fountains, statues, stairways and frescoes, and Italian-style garden, the hemicycle of the Kaffeehaus, constitutes a sublime testimony of that particular antiquarian taste which came to the fore in mid-18th-century, that for which Rome had become a key destination on the Grand Tour. While the Cardinal was the real director of works, for the layout of the works Albani's lifelong friend Carlo Marchionni was the architect in charge, at the Villa and perhaps also for the two temples in the park, an Ionic temple of Diana and a sham ruin.

Her first major exhibition was ArtSites 96 at Maryland Art Place in Baltimore, where she first presented her toothpick cubes. She also participated in Options 1997 at Washington Project for the Arts, where she presented her first project utilizing torn pieces of tar paper, as well as group exhibitions at Baumgartner Galleries and Numark Gallery in Washington, DC. In 1998, Donovan held her first solo exhibition, Resonances, at Hemphill Fine Arts in Washington DC. In the same year, she exhibited New Sculpture at Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, Virginia. Donovan returned to her studies and earned her MFA at VCUarts, part of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 1999, when she also received her first interview in Articulate Contemporary Art Review. Upon graduating, she mounted her first major museum solo exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art's Hemicycle Gallery in Washington, DC in 1999, where she presented Whorl, an installation made out of approximately 8,000 pounds of nylon fiber that was bundled into units and then spread out on the floor in an expanding spiral pattern.

Untitled by Tara Donovan Donovan's first major commercial gallery exhibitions were mounted at Ace Gallery in New York and Los Angeles. Her work was included in the 2000 Whitney Biennial. Earlier, from 1999 to 2000, Donovan exhibited Whorl at Hemicycle Gallery, Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Upon receiving the call that she would be exhibiting this site-specific installation, Donovan is quoted as saying "I screamed and ran around in circles ... What do you think?" In a review of that exhibition, art critic Jessica Dawson observed that "Like Whorl, the artist's past works transformed outsize quantities of everyday materials—toothpicks, roofing felt, rolls of adding machine paper—into the unexpected: natural formations, seemingly living organisms, topographic maps." Following Whorl, Donovan showed a series of exhibitions at Ace Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. In 2003, she occupied the entire Ace Gallery space at 274 Hudson Street in New York with a series of ‘site-responsive’ installations, many of which have now come to define the artist's oeuvre.

In 1951, the leaders of six European countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, France, Italy and West Germany) signed the Treaty of Paris which created the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), and with this new community came the first institutions: the High Authority, Council of Ministers, Court of Justice and Common Assembly. A number of cities were considered, and Brussels would have been accepted as a compromise, but the Belgian government put all its effort into backing Liège,Demey, 2007: 175–6 opposed by all the other members, and was unable to formally back Brussels due to internal instability.Demey, 2007: 177 Agreement remained elusive and a seat had to be found before the institutions could begin work, hence Luxembourg was chosen as a provisional seat, though with the Common Assembly in Strasbourg as that was the only city with a large enough hemicycle (the one used by the Council of Europe). This agreement was temporary, and plans were set to relocate the institutions to Saarbrücken which would serve as a "European District", but this did not occur.

The three different versions of The Sacred Grove have been displayed in various places. The large hemicycle in the Grand Amphitheater of the Sorbonne remains there as does the original painted for the museum in Lyons. The showcase piece however has travelled all over the globe and is one of the main representations of Puvis. The first exhibition featuring The Sacred Grove was of course at the Salon in 1884 where it won the grand prize. Following the painting’s success there and the creation of the final work for the museum in Lyons, The Sacred Grove as the easel version was not displayed until many years later. It was exhibited after Puvis’ death, in 1975 at the Art Gallery of Ontario in an exhibition titled: “Puvis de Chavannes and the Modern Tradition” alongside its parody by Toulouse Lautrec: The Sacred Grove, Parody of a Painting by Puvis de Chavannes Exhibited at the Salon of 1884, and other paintings by artists whom he influenced, including Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Picasso.

Johann Rurer, who spread the Lutheran ideas of Protestant Church reformation and who was the town priest of Ansbach, held his first service at St. Johannis Church on 9 April 1525. The Military Church records (Microfilm no. 164) were found in the Military Chaplaincy of St. Johannis Church at Ansbach. The crypt of the church houses the funeral chapel of the margraves and margravines who used to worship at the St. Johanis Church. The caskets in which they are buried are made of materials such as bronze and copper and marble and covered with “black samite draperies”. The coffins are arranged in a “hemicycle” and include the small coffins of children; two of the coffins are engraved, one engraving is made of bronze which raises the effigy of the child and the other has an epitaph for the princes who died young when one year old. The epitaph reads: > “In the Rose-month was this sweet Rose taken. > For the Rose-kind hath she earth forsaken. > The Princess is the Rose, that here no longer blows, > From the stem by death’s hand rudely shaken.
