While grifting and heisting are two totally different levels of cons (grifts:heists :: selling PR gifts on Poshmark:robbing the Met), stories about low-key con artists and budding criminals are extremely satisfying to read.

The criminals who do the actual heisting — Baby isn't really one for guns or blood — are a grab bag of addicts and psychopaths, all of whom are baffled by the enigmatic and mostly silent getaway driver.

Ex- convict Casey Martin (Lovejoy) is caught heisting a truck shipment. After he discovers the depths of alcoholism his sister, Lucille, has fallen to after working for mobster Dutch Becker (Tucker), Casey accepts the deal police have offered him. He goes to work undercover to nail Dutch and his gang; if he survives and is successful, Casey will receive immunity from prosecution. Gladys Baker (Castle) worked for Dutch for a long time.

A version for the Nintendo Switch was released in February 2018. Two years after the events of the previous game, the Payday gang comes to the Washington metropolitan area to perform another heisting spree. The player takes control of one of the gang's twenty one members and can perform heists alone, or with up to three teammates. The player can participate in a variety of heists, including but not limited to robberies of banks, shops and armored cars, and producing and distributing narcotics.

Lin wanted to explore the elements of "freedom and family" in the film and collaborated with Morgan towards that ideal, both having worked together on previous installments of the franchise. Morgan worked with Diesel to produce a story arc that would further explore and develop Diesel's character. An idea involving heisting a large safe had been conceived by Morgan during the production of Fast & Furious, but that film's premise did not work with how Morgan envisioned it. He later incorporated it into Fast Five.

The next day, Locke reveals that his "betrayal" was coordinated with Bain as a ruse to quickly get the gang out of DC and into Alaska because somebody had been searching for the gang in DC. He takes over for Bain temporarily and helps them escape. He then introduces Joy (Siu-See Hung) to the gang to deal with Crime.net while not heisting. Working off of clues Bain has left behind, he helps the Payday crew rob a bank in Brooklyn and steal a medallion containing important information buried under the foundation of the bank.

The gang's command and control, the secretive Bain (portrayed by Digger T. Mesch, voiced by Simon Viklund), sets up Crime.net, an online service for contractors to hire criminals for jobs that they need doing. Two years after the events of the first game, Dallas returns to heisting and Bain contracts him with the task of sneaking into a police department to steal a flash drive and use it to delete the intel the police have on Crime.net. Afterwards, Dallas raids a mobster's nightclub to retrieve cocaine that belonged to Bain's acquaintance and fights through the police force to escape by helicopter.

Grofield is very happy with her, but feels no compunction about being with other women when he's away on a heist. Unlike his frequent companion Parker, Grofield is a somewhat inconsistent character, and his adventures run the gamut from hard-boiled crime stories (Lemons Never Lie) to more fanciful, James Bond-style globetrotting and intrigue (The Damsel, The Dame, and The Blackbird). Grofield also differs significantly from Parker in that he can be friendly, chatty and gregarious in all types of company — but, similar to Parker, Grofield does not hesitate to use brutal violence (when necessary) in the furtherance of his goals. Grofield is not mentioned in any of the eight Parker novels after Butcher's Moon, and we do not learn whether he's dead, imprisoned, or has simply retired from heisting.
