Immediately infusing the team with his tough, hard-as-nails attitude, the Eagles quickly became known for their tough defense and tougher personalities. Ryan began rejuvenating the team by releasing several aging players, including Ron Jaworski. Randall Cunningham took his place, and despite a 5–10–1 season, he began showing considerable promise. 1987 saw another strike, reducing the season by one game. The substitutes who were filling in for the strikers turned in a poor performance, being crushed 41–22 by the Dallas Cowboys.

Notoriously short tempered (his father 'Billie' Bruce was supposed to be the 'worst tempered man in the North of England') he was described as 'as hard as nails' by his fellow Spangenberg inmate, Squadron Leader Eric Foster, in his autobiography. Tunstall explained Bruce was very meticulous, and gave plaudits to him by describing him as having the draw of a big personality. After the Swiss commission escape, Tunstall also claimed that compared to him with his bad ankle, Bruce and Newborn had mental toughness to keep going whilst on the march; and that of the three Bruce, with his stamina, was the pacesetter. Ingenious he may have been, but not all Bruce's escape ideas were successful.

In November 1923 Roe completed his tour of the Football League divisions when he signed for Lincoln City of the Third Division North. Although he joined well after the start of the season, he still became their leading scorer for 1923–24; described as "hard as nails despite only being of moderate height", he scored 12 goals from 30 games in all competitions in the year he spent with the club. His last move was to Rotherham County, where the "fearless" Roe's three goals from seven games – one on his debut and two more in his next three games – failed to prevent the club finishing bottom of the Third Division North. After retiring from the game, Roe became a publican in Sheffield.

In 1955, television producer Frederick Ziv of ZIV Television Productions offered Crawford the lead role as "Dan Mathews" in the police drama Highway Patrol, which dramatized law enforcement activities of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). ZIV Television Productions operated on an extremely low budget of $25,000 per episode of Highway Patrol with ten percent of gross receipts going to Crawford as per his contract. While the show's scripts were largely fictional, the use of realistic, rapid-fire dialogue and Crawford's convincing portrayal of a hard-as-nails police official helped make the show an instant success. Highway Patrol remained popular during its four years (1955–1959) of first-run syndication, and would continue in repeat syndication on local stations across the United States for many years after.

Her last performance of the year was a hard-as-nails prostitute in the screwball comedy film, The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag. Some panels showed evidence of the name having been inserted over a previous one: a change in the lettering style for the name 'Q-Squad' and any adjacent words – which used a different handwriting in a cruder style wherever the name appeared, but nowhere else. In the same issue, a serious footballing serial entitled The Handcuff Hotspurs began, replacing the departed – and rather more humorous – World Wide Wanderers. Hard-as-nails former prison sports instructor 'Toff' Morgan (so called for his habit of always wearing a top-hat) took over the management of ailing First Division side Haversham Hotspurs.

The Teen Titans iteration of Robin returns in Teen Titans Go! with Scott Menville reprising his role. In the show, Robin is portrayed as the self-appointed, hard-as-nails, hubristic, slightly power mad leader of the Teen Titans but fairly more light-hearted, and has a huge crush on Starfire but is too nervous to admit this, though he is also seen as being very arrogant, often depicting himself as the so-called "best superhero", believing that he is better than his friends and heroes should always put themselves in the spotlight and take all the glory. He is also a "sleep-Fighter", and is insecure about his lack of superpowers, which has, on multiple occasions, led to one of the other Titans committing mutiny and replacing Robin as leader.

In June 2017 Compa launched his Record Label CPA Records with a collaboration with Newham Generals artist and frequent D Double E collaborator Footsie. Mixmag described the collaboration as a "hard-as-nails war dub" which "combines elements of grime and bass". Since Compa's debut tour of North America in 2014 he has toured extensively including one tour of Australia and New Zealand and consistent UK and Europe shows including Fabric in London, UK where he played every room of the club in 2013, Skrillex's OWSLA club night at The Warehouse Project in Manchester, UK, Outlook Festival in Pula, Croatia, Echo Park festival in Shanghai, China and Webster Hall in Manhattan, New York, USA. Compa has recorded notable DJ mixes for FACT Magazine's mix series as well as Mixmag's 'Mix Of The Week' along with achieving their 'Tune Of The Month' in their January 2014 issue.
