The grind-house nostalgist in me was delighted to find two 1981 obscurities: the Italian filmmaker Lucio Fulci's mortifying gorefest "The Beyond" and "The Nesting," an interesting novelty in which the New York sexploitation filmmaker Armand Weston tried to go mainstream, with mixed results.

Adiós gringo was released in 1965. On its domestic release in Italy, Adiós gringo was the fourth highest-grossing film of the year. "Byro." commented on the audience reaction to the film at a 22nd street grind house screening in New York which was laughing at the film more than enjoying it.

Rocky Horror helped shape conditions of cult film's transition from art-house to grind-house style. Early participation with the film took place at the original Westwood location of the film's first run with fans heard singing along. Waverly Theatre fans in New York are credited with the call back lines. Performance groups became a staple at Rocky Horror screenings due in large part to the prominent New York City fan cast.

For example, Mau-Mau (1955), presented as a documentary of the violent nationalist uprising in Kenya, played the grind- house circuit. Fabricated scenes filmed in front of a painted backdrop of an African village show nude and semi-clad "native" women being raped, strangled, and stabbed by machete-wielding maniacs. Other films containing nudity were the early underground 8mm pornographic films and fetish reels which, due to various censorship regimes, had only limited (usually clandestine) means of distribution and were only shown in private until the 1970s.

Monson got his start at the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse’s school of theatre, known as the Hollywood “Star Factory.” In 1964, with his first wife Laura Shelton, he founded the Curtain Call Theater in North Hollywood, a critically acclaimed invitational playhouse run by professional actors on a cooperative basis. The Curtain Call Theater was one of the first legitimate theatres to open in the NoHo Arts District which is now considered Hollywood's theatre district. In addition to working in theatre, Monson also directed and wrote screenplays for low-budget sexploitation and grind house films during the 1970s and 1980s.

Evil Power the fourth full album from the band Lair of the Minotaur was announced in February 2010 and released on April 13, 2010 under the newly created Grind-House Records, an independent record label to replace their last label Southern Lord Records. Mellor commented that the first story is "physically horrid", the second "wickedly cruel" and the third a "sad story" with "no laughs". Reviewing the stories' tones, Robinson found the first to be "dim and claustrophobic", the second "naturalistic" and the last "shot with a grind house seediness". The episode was compared by Robinson to the 1990s horror anthology series Tales from the Crypt, with Rolo Haynes in a role similar to the cryptkeeper.

From 2013-2019, Sylvan collaborated with Mx Macabre to create a musical burlesque show called The Sailor Moon Shoujo Spectacular.

The Kings as the Pasig Grind house Kings was among the teams that participated in the inaugural season of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 league. They won the overall title of the first conference of the league, the President's Cup and won a berth to become one of the Philippines' representative teams at the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters in Doha, Qatar. Pasig along the 1Bataan Risers also qualified for the inaugural 2019 FIBA Asia-Pacific Super Quest to be hosted in the Philippines on account of their overall performance in the conference. At the 2019 FIBA Asia-Pacific Super Quest, they finished third place, losing to eventual champions Tokyo Dime.

The band released their fifth studio album, One of Us Is the Killer on May 14, 2013 through Party Smasher in partnership with various labels around the world, including BMG for Europe, Grind House for Japan, Remote Control for Australia and Sumerian Records for North America. While touring North American in April 2014, the band released the non-album single, "Happiness Is a Smile". The single was only released as a seven-inch vinyl and a cassette and was only available the buy on this tour. On July 14, 2014, it was announced that the band would be playing for two weeks as the opening slot on the Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden North American tour.

The film cast includes Elsa Pataky, Enrique Murciano, Jason Day, Phellipe Haagensen and Liz Gallardo. Mancora was also invited and presented to be screened at South by Southwest film festival by Elizabeth Avellan, producer of Sin City and Grind House. The band's fourth full-length album, Evil Power, was released in 2010 by The Grind-House Records, an independent record label started by Rathbone, Wozniak and Josh Diebel of Alleysweeper Records, distributed by Southern Lord. An accompanying music video for the title track, similar to the "War Metal Battle Master" video, was filmed and released in early 2010. In honor of the album, Lair of the Minotaur teamed up with Three Floyds Brewing to create and release a beer called Evil Power Imperial Pilsner in April 2011, coinciding with a performance at Three Floyds' Darklord Day festival. The beer was again brewed and released in April 2013, also coinciding with a performance at Darklord Day.

Due to these theaters' proximity to controversially sexualized forms of entertainment like burlesque, the term "grindhouse" has often been erroneously associated with burlesque theaters in urban entertainment areas such as 42nd Street in New York City, where "bump and grind" dancing and striptease were featured. In the film Lady of Burlesque (1943) one of the characters refers to one such burlesque theatre on 42nd Street as a "grindhouse," but Church points out the primary definition in the Oxford English Dictionary is for a movie theater distinguished by three criteria: # Shows a variety of films, in continuous succession # Low admission fees # Films screened are frequently of poor quality or low (artistic) merit Church states the first use of the term "grind house" was in a 1923 Variety article, which may have adopted the contemporary slang usage of "grind" to refer to the actions of barkers exhorting potential patrons to enter the venue. Double, triple, and "all night" bills on a single admission charge often encouraged patrons to spend long periods of time in the theaters. The milieu was largely and faithfully captured at the time by the magazine Sleazoid Express.
