Their Suite's sound-world - including "oddly retrogressive bursts of twanging synthesizer" - was "echt Bernstein". A jazzy trombone solo was almost better than the aria from which it had been adapted, and it had been a clever idea to use Bernstein's Act 1 postlude to end the Suite in a kind of valedictory blessing. The London Symphony Orchestra could not have played with a surer grasp of Bernstein's idiom. The orchestra's handling of the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story was less satisfying.

George Hendrik Breitner introduced a realism to the Netherlands that created shock waves similar to that of Courbet and Manet's in France. He was the painter of city views par excellence: wooden foundation piles by the harbour, demolition work and construction sites in the old centre, horse trams on the Dam, or canals in the rain. By the turn of the century Breitner was a famous painter in the Netherlands, as demonstrated by a highly successful retrospective exhibition at Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam (1901). When the streets of Amsterdam are grey and rainy, people of Amsterdam whisper grimly "Echt Breitnerweer" (Typical Breitnerweather).

Several of the inhabitants of Aberdeen, and commissioners were sent to the king to lodge a complaint. On 19 December the following year, the magistrates served letters of law-burrows against Pitsligo, Tolquhon, Corsindae, Brux, Echt, and other gentlemen of the name of Forbes and Lord Pitsligo was obliged to find caution to the council at Perth for his own and friends good behaviour towards the town of Aberdeen. At that time a deadly feud subsisted between Clan Forbes and Clan Leslie; and it is probable that some of the Aberdeen townsfolk had interfered in that quarrel, which furiously raged throughout Aberdeenshire, and was attended by mutual massacres and murders.

The barony of Echt had been owned by the Forbes family since 1469 and the original mansion house, built in 1705, was known as Housedale. The present mansion is located slightly to the south west of it. In 1820 William Forbes commissioned the Aberdeen City Architect John Smith to design a replacement house in a basic two-storey Grecian inspired style. The house and lands were sold to The 24th Earl of Crawford in 1845 for £117,000. His main family residence was Haigh Hall in Greater Manchester and it was under the instruction of The 25th Earl of Crawford, his eldest son who succeeded him in 1869, that further extensive additions were made to the Dunecht mansion. This phase of architectural work was undertaken by Smith's son William and spanned from 1855–1859. Usually an annual ball was held at either Haigh Hall or the family's London home but in October 1871 it was hosted at Dunecht. Attendees included the Gordons from Cluny Castle, the Abercrombies from Forglen House, the Irvines from Drum Castle and many other dignitaries from throughout the north east. Additional internal renovations were commissioned around 1867 and undertaken by George Edmund Street.
Of the six major Allied four- engine bombers - Boeing B-17, Consolidated B-24, Boeing B-29, Short Stirling, Handley Page Halifax, Avro Lancaster - the Stirling is the only one of which there are no surviving examples. There are, however, two sections of Stirlings which are displayed in museums. At the Musée du terrain d'aviation militaire in Vraux, France there are sections of the rear fuselage of Stirling LK142. Part of 196 Squadron, the plane crashed near Spincourt on 24 September 1944. The second remaining section is located at the Museum Vliegbasis in Deelen, Netherlands, and comes from Stirling LK545. After the 299 Squadron plane crashed near Nijmegen on 23 September 1944, a piece of the fuselage was cut off and subsequently used as part of a pig sty on a farm in Beuningen. In 2003 the section of fuselage was transferred to a museum. In September 2019, exactly 75 years after the liberation of the southern Netherlands, the excavation has started of the Short Stirling W7630 at the site of Lilbosch Abbey near Pey, Echt, Netherlands. The plane crashed here on 10 September 1942.
