Clive Owen (born 3 October 1964) is an English actor. He first gained recognition in the United Kingdom for playing the lead role in the ITV series Chancer from 1990 to 1991. He received critical acclaim for his work in the film Close My Eyes (1991) before earning international attention for his performance as a struggling writer in Croupier (1998). In 2005, he won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the drama Closer (2004).

Modesty Blaise is working as a croupier in a casino in Tangier. A group of violent criminals assassinate her employer and enter the casino shooting staff and demanding entry to the casino's safe. Modesty delays her retaliation and retribution as she protects the lives of her staff. When the criminals kill the only person who can open the safe, Modesty arranges for a fellow employee to arrive who has the password for the computer that holds the details of the entry to the vault.

He was one the puppeteers for BB-8 in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Captain Garvey arrives in Los Angeles and, believing Danny to be innocent, manages to persuade his Los Angeles colleagues to release Danny, provided that he immediately leaves the city. Danny knows that the police are letting him go in order to use him as bait to catch the real killer Sydney. Danny decides to go to Las Vegas when he learns that Soldier has moved there and found a job in a casino. Danny arrives and Soldier gets him a job as a croupier in his casino.

Paul McCartney said of the song in his Playboy magazine interview in December 1984: The newspaper story McCartney mentioned was from the front page of the Daily Mirror, about a girl named Melanie Coe. Casablanca (1983 TV series) broadcast on NBC in April 1983, starred David Soul as Rick and was canceled after three weeks. The novel As Time Goes By, written by Michael Walsh and published in 1998, was authorized by Warner.

In Felo de Se; or Death at the Inn (1937) the croupier is described as: a pleasant faced Jew, calm, impassive and courteous, though obviously very much "on the spot". In The Stoneware Monkey (1938) Thorndyke is using a young Jewish man as his messenger. In Mr Polton Explains (1938) Polton is assisted first by the Jewish watchmaker Abraham and then by the Jewish solicitor Cohen comes to Polton's aid not once but twice, not only representing him without cost, but feeding him and loaning him money without interest or term.

Saxophone player Teddy Kleindin recalled Schwedler working as a croupier in Berlin after the Nazi defeat in 1945. After briefly settling in Bavaria and Düsseldorf, Schwedler (along with wife and two children, Bernd and Scarlet) emigrated to the United States in August 1960, after which he passed into obscurity.In This Air War, the Nazis Fired Words and Music, Herbert Mitgang, New York Times, September 8, 1997. Mr Tanner, ‘milkman by day and a croupier by night’, got involved with Miss Macdermott while still married, she had twins girls in 1969 and changed her name to Mrs Tanner, though he never married her. She moved in with him in 1970, giving up her rent controlled tenancy hoping she would remain there until the twins left school. Mr Tanner did divorce his first wife, but then married another woman, and offered Mrs Tanner £4000 to leave, and maintenance that he had not previously paid. She refused.

Ng achieved fame on the World Poker Tour (WPT) circuit in 2003 after placing second to Clonie Gowen in the Ladies' Night I tournament, finishing ahead of established professionals including Annie Duke, Kathy Liebert and Jennifer Harman. Ng was included as one of the characters in the video game Stacked with Daniel Negreanu. Formerly a representative of the online poker room PokerStars, she is now part of Team Bodog. Ng was a participant in the King of Vegas television series on SpikeTV, and featured in the second series of British game show Casino as the poker croupier.

A player is dealt two cards and adds up the combined pips, discounting tens and court cards, and only using the single digit value as a score – a King and a six will equal sixteen, but their value will be six; two eights will equal sixteen, and their value will also be six. As the criminals and their captives await the individual, Modesty takes on the leader of the criminals at the game of roulette. They agree that if she wins twice in a row a captive sworn to not tell what happened is released; when she loses she has to tell the truth about her background to the leader of the criminals who has become fascinated by her. She relates her life story little by little in the manner of Scheherazade. Modesty tells her life story in flashback beginning as an orphaned child in a refugee camp in the Balkans, to her meeting her mentor who teaches her his knowledge of various languages and martial arts until his death in Algeria where she makes her way to Tangier and becoming a croupier.

Nicholas Mark Reding (born 31 August 1962 in Chiswick, London) is an English actor. During a career of more than two decades, he is probably best known for playing PC Pete Ramsey in The Bill and DI Michael Conner in the BBC crime thriller series Silent Witness. His many TV and film appearances include The Monocled Mutineer, Bodyguards, Oscar, Peak Practice, Frank Stubbs Promotes, Minder, Tales from the Crypt, Bugs, Sword of Honour, A Touch of Frost, Paradise Postponed, Murder in Mind, Boon, The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, Captive, Mister Johnson, The House of Eliott, Police 2020, Sunburn, Croupier, Judge John Deed, The Constant Gardener, Blood Diamond and Soul Boy. On stage he played Joseph Porter Pitt in Tony Kushner's Angels in America at the Royal National Theatre, as well as leading roles at the Royal Court.

The Nazi major, who had been fatally shot by Rick at the end of the film, was eliminated as a character, but Ferrari, the Fat Man with the powerful connections, was now portrayed by heavily built Dan Seymour (who was unbilled as Abdul the doorman at Rick's in 1942).

The closing stages of the race saw a sustained struggle between Markofdistinction and Distant Relative with the former gaining the advantage in the final strides to win by a length with the pair drawing eight lengths clear of Green Line Express in third.

Any other persons desiring to take part remain standing, and can only play in the event of the amount in the bank for the time being not being covered by the seated players. The croupier, having shuffled the cards, hands them for the same purpose to the players to the right and left of him, the banker being entitled to shuffle them last, and to select the person by whom they shall be cut. Each punter having made his stake, the banker deals three cards, the first to the player on his right, the second to the player on his left, and the third to himself; then three more in like manner. The five punters on the right (and any bystanders staking with them) win or lose by the cards dealt to that side; the five others by the cards dealt to the left side.

These covers, many of which became famous among billiard aficionados, included such staged scenes as: a Neanderthal couple playing pool on a stone table using rocks for balls (history issue); a grizzled lobsterman checking his catch of 9-balls in an authentic lobster trap (New England issue); and a group of yuppie gamblers playing at a pool/craps table with 9-ball and 8-ball dice and a croupier using a modified cue stick to rake in the chips (gambling issue). Two of the most famous covers were for the Johnston City and collectible cues issues. On the former, rare photos of the famous "Pit" at Johnston City and a well-preserved copy of a Johnston City program appeared. The latter featured a photo of one of the rarest billiard cue-and-case combinations, with a cue built by master cue builder Gus Szamboti and a matching case by Fellini.

One of their associates, David Litvinoff, accumulated debts of £3,000, which Ronnie Kray agreed to waive in return for what was left of the lease on Litvinoff's flat at Ashburn Gardens, near the Gloucester Road in Kensington and taking over Litvinoff's lover Bobby Buckley, who became a croupier at the club. Litvinoff continued to live in the property as part of the deal. Ronnie was able to choose the waiters and croupiers to suit his own preferences for attractive young men, and, according to John Pearson, the Barn became the centre of Ronnie's own "private vice ring", which included private sex shows at Ashburn Gardens. Although the Krays made a lot of money from the club they could never resist extending credit to their criminal friends, who ran up large debts, cancelling other debts on a whim and dipping into the club's money whenever they wanted cash.

He recorded his first victory as he took the lead from the start and won by two lengths from the Guy Harwood-trained favourite Digression (later to win the Royal Lodge Stakes). In the Solario Stakes at Sandown Park Racecourse on 18 August Balla Cove led until the last quarter mile but was then overtaken and finished last of the three runners behind Be My Chief and Robellation. On 5 October the colt was dropped back in distance for the Group One Middle Park Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket in which he started a 20/1 outsider in a six-runner field. The Michael Stoute-trained Cordoba was made the odds-on favourite ahead of Rock City (winner of the Coventry Stakes, July Stakes and Gimcrack Stakes) whilst the other three runner were Batzushka, Duck and Dive (runner-up in the Phoenix Stakes) and Croupier.

Before his eighteenth birthday Taken from "The Bookman", May 1911 he watched, from the fo'cs'le of a windjammer, the silver crescent of the moon rising above Sydney Heads in Australia. After a voyage of a hundred days he arrived in New South Wales to find the colony practically bankrupt and with nothing to which he could turn his hand. He spent a fortnight in the New South Wales capital, which abounded then not only in larrikins but in fan-tan shops, where all day one heard "those gruesome, horrible claws,"refer to 'The Diary of a Soldier of Fortune' the long nails of the Chinese croupier, scratching over the matting as he raked in the lost money, or watched the concentrated spite on his face as he paid out to an unusually successful gambler. Thereafter Stanley got a berth in a big sheep station some four hundred miles up-country, where a bottle of whiskey cost as much as two sheep.

Making her stage debut in 1931, her theatre work included appearances at The Old Vic, the Malvern Festival and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her TV acting credits include: Out of the Unknown, The Avengers, Paul Temple, The Lotus Eaters, Ace of Wands, The Tomorrow People, Z-Cars, Public Eye, Sutherland's Law, Dixon of Dock Green, The Onedin Line, Doctor Who (in the serial The Seeds of Doom), Survivors, Armchair Thriller (in the serial Quiet as a Nun), Blake's 7 (in the episode Gambit as the Croupier), Shoestring, The Flipside of Dominick Hide, Angels, Funny Man, Rumpole of the Bailey, Artemis 81, Bleak House and the sitcom Maggie and Her. Tom Baker mentioned on the DVD commentary for The Robots of Death that he had been so taken with Coleridge's eccentric performance in The Seeds of Doom that he had suggested her as the new Doctor Who companion to producer Graham Williams.

Armbrister made his major league debut with the Reds on August 31, 1973 at the age of 25. He is notable for his involvement in a controversial play in the 1975 World Series. In the tenth inning of Game Three, with César Gerónimo on base and nobody out, Armbrister collided with Boston Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk at home plate while starting to run out a sacrifice bunt, leading to a wild throw by Fisk to second base that allowed Gerónimo to reach third base and eventually score the winning run; home plate umpire Larry Barnett did not make an interference call on Armbrister, a decision which was a source of heated debate after the Reds won the game 6–5. After baseball, he returned to the Bahamas. He was a craps table croupier at Resorts International’s Paradise Island Casino and worked for at least one other establishment in the gaming business, a staple of the Bahamian tourist economy.

In 1961 Sliker was invited by Rudolf Bing to join the roster of singers at the Metropolitan Opera. He made his debut with the company on November 29, 1961 as one of the noblemen in Richard Wagner's Lohengrin with Sándor Kónya in the title role, Ingrid Bjoner as Elsa, Margaret Harshaw as Ortrud, Randolph Symonette as Telramund, Jerome Hines as King Heinrich, and Joseph Rosenstock conducting. He appeared annually at the Met through 1989 in a large number of character roles, including Ambrogio in The Barber of Seville, a Croupier in Manon, Forester in Don Carlo, the Gardener in La traviata, the Guard in Rigoletto, Handsome in La Fanciulla del West, Jankel in Arabella, a Lackey in Der Rosenkavalier, the Sergeant in La Bohème, the Steersman in La Gioconda, and a Villager in Pagliacci. On September 16, 1966 he appeared as the Sentinel in the world premiere of Samuel Barber's Antony and Cleopatra for the opening of the new Metropolitan Opera House with Leontyne Price as Cleopatra and Justino Díaz as Anthony.

Kingston has appeared in a number of British-produced television dramas, including Grange Hill, Crocodile Shoes, The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, The Knock and various guest roles on The Bill. Kingston's film credits include The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989), A Pin for the Butterfly (1994), The Infiltrator (1995), Croupier (1998), Essex Boys (2000), Boudica (Warrior Queen in the USA) (2003) in which she played the eponymous Boudica, Sweet Land (2005) and Crashing (2007). In September 1997, Kingston gained North American television fame after being cast on the long- running medical drama ER. Her first appearance was in the premiere of the fourth season, the award-winning live episode "Ambush", as British surgeon Elizabeth Corday. Kingston played this role for just over seven seasons, leaving in October 2004 with the season 11 episode, "Fear", after her contract was not renewed. Kingston, who was 41 at the time, criticised the move as ageism, stating that "apparently, I, according to the producers and the writers, am part of the old fogies who are no longer interesting." In spring 2009, Kingston returned to ER during its 15th and final season for two episodes, "Dream Runner" and the two-hour series finale, "And in the End...".

Morton trained in London at the Central School of Speech and Drama from 1965–68 and is well known for his roles in several leading drama series, such as Taggart, Second Sight, Between the Lines, Minder, and Casualty; movies such as Croupier and London to Brighton; and single dramas The One That Got Away (1996), Looking After Jo Jo (1998), and The Man-Eating Wolves of Gysinge (2005). He is best known for playing the ghillie Golly Mackenzie in the BBC TV series Monarch of the Glen (2000–2005, appearing in all 64 episodes), and before that made regular appearances over the 1980s and 1990s as the evil Andy Semple in Scottish soap Take the High Road. Highlights of his stage career include a Scots rendition of Shakespeare's Macbeth and R.P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, both directed by Robert Carlyle, who was a founder member, with Morton, of the Raindog Theatre Company in the 1990s. Morton also worked regularly with theatre companies 7:84 and Borderline, and has appeared at the Traverse, the Lyceum, the Bush, the Royal Court, in repertory all over the UK, as well as regular appearances in pantomime, notably at Glasgow's King's Theatre.
