Its development led to a generation of hafted weapons with points that concentrated impact, either to penetrate steel plate or to damage the joints of articulated plate. Increasingly daggers called misericords were carried which enabled a sharp point to be thrust though gaps in armour if an opponent was disabled or being grappled with. Swords styles became more diverse – from the two-handed zweihänders to more narrow thrusting instruments with sharply pointed tips, capable of penetrating any "chinks in the armour" of a fully encased opponent: for example, the estoc. " The film had its share of detractors who, while praising the narrative and performances, felt that the concept of feminism portrayed in the film was flawed. On August 18, 1909, Canton pitcher Charles Fanning threw a losing no–hitter against the Macomb Potters, as Canton lost the game 2–0. Canton 1909 home season attendance at Athletic Park was 30,000, an average of 462 per contest. In 1910, Canton finished 3rd in Illinois–Missouri League play, 13.0 games behind the Pekin Celestials. Canton had a 55–62 record playing under Managers Elmer Smith and M. McDonald, as the Macomb Potters and Jacksonville Jacks folded during the season, leaving only four teams in the Illinois–Missouri League.

The Macomb Potters then became charter members of the Class D Illinois- Missouri League after local baseball enthusiasts and fans raised funds to start the team, hire a team manager and pay players. In their first season of 1908, Macomb finished 2nd in the six–team Illinois–Missouri League. With a record of 66–53, the Potters were 2nd in the standings, finishing 3.0 games behind the 1st place Hannibal Cannibals. The 1908 Manager was Jap Wagner. The initial 1908 Illinois–Missouri League standings season standings consisted of the Canton Chinks (56–61), Galesburg Hornets (50–67), champion Hannibal Cannibals (68–49), Havana Perfectos (58–61), Macomb Potters (66–53) and Monmouth Browns (55–62). The 1909 Macomb Potters continued play in their second season in the Illinois–Missouri League. With a regular season record of 63–67, Macomb finished 4th in the Illinois–Missouri League standings under Manager Orville Wolfe. On Friday, June 18, 1909, the Macomb Potters hosted an exhibition game against the defending World Series Champion Chicago Cubs. In front of 2,964 fans, the Cubs beat the Potters 6–0.
