Jeevanlal, who is a thief, lives in a small village in India. He is married to Sita and together they have a daughter Meena and a son, Dharmchand (Dharma)(Rajesh Khanna). One day, Jeevanal burgles the Tehsildar's house, and then hides the stolen property with Dharmchand at the family home. When the police arrive, Dharmchand gives up the stolen property.

Raffles asks Bunny to dine with Craggs that evening, to distract him while Raffles burgles the map-case. Raffles leaves, and Bunny spends the remaining hours preparing his conversational skills. Meanwhile, Stefan has fallen under the control of Steven Bonaface (Lennie James), a local gangster, and is being drawn deeper into a life of petty crime. On Christmas Day Stefan burgles his mother's house. At a New Year's Eve party, one of the girls at Number 66, Annalise (Ashley Madekwe), overdoses on solvents.

After settling in at the lighthouse, the children meet an elderly retired sailor, Jeremiah Boogle, who tells them of his youthful encounters with three villains who lured ships to Demon's Rocks and plundered the wrecks. He says the ringleader, One-Ear Bill, hid a treasure trove which has never been found. Two of One-Ear Bill's descendants, Jacob and Ebenezer, now show tourists through the wreckers' cave. Jacob burgles some items from the lighthouse and also steals the key.

Cinderella, heartbroken, cries herself to sleep and has a nightmare about being sexually assaulted. With Cinderella asleep and the family gone, a wanted cat burglar and self-proclaimed transvestite and kleptomaniac (Richardson) ducks into the empty house to hide from an angry mob. Upon being discovered by Cinderella, he convinces her that he is her "fairy" godmother and sends her upstairs to bathe while he burgles the house ("Grab It"). When Cinderella emerges fully cleaned, he is amazed at her beauty and decides to help her after all.

As she is preparing to leave she tearfully bids Ryan farewell, telling him that she will miss him and he waves her off, along with Katie and Cain. Whilst Ryan is on a night out with Cain, he tricks Ryan into talking to a young woman whilst he steals her car. Ryan is angry and tells Cain that he does not want to go back to prison and orders him to not use him in any of his criminal scams. But Cain does not listen and the following month, he tricks Ryan into acting as a lookout whilst he burgles Holdgate Farm and steals Jai Sharma's car.

When Andy interferes in their relationship causing Katie to dump him, Nick makes silent calls to Katie's house phone and burgles her home, stealing a bracelet her father had given her. Andy is blamed for the incidents and following another confrontation with Andy in the street following a romantic meal with Katie, Nick tries to frame Andy further by starting a fire that kills Terry Woods (Billy Hartman) and Viv Hope (Deena Payne). Nick ensures that Andy is blamed due to his previous conviction for arson and manslaughter and convinces Katie that Andy was responsible. When Nick discovers that his colleagues are onto him, he convinces Katie to come away with him.

In New York City, Helen returns to the apartment she shares with her boyfriend, Marco, after enduring an unhygienic and inept abortion. Helen becomes ill and Bobby, an amiable small-time drug dealer to whom Marco owes money, shows unexpected gentleness and concern for Helen. Helen considers returning to her dysfunctional family, but moves in with Bobby, and when she finds him taking drugs, he explains that he is not an addict, but only uses a little. At Sherman Square, nicknamed Needle Park for the drug addicts who use it as a hangout to get drugs and get high, Bobby introduces Helen to various acquaintances, including his brother Hank, who burgles for a living.

Meanwhile, he burgles another woman (Rose Marie) to get the final amount of money he needs. Eli heads to L.A., where he begins to assemble his gang (Severn Darden, Aldo Ray and Michael Strong) for the bank robbery, which is timed to take place while the airport is distracted by the arrival of the Premier of the Soviet Union. To keep her occupied, Eli sends Inger to take Polaroid snapshots around L.A., supposedly for a magazine article he is writing. Using costumes stolen from a movie studio, he and one of the gang masquerade as an Australian policeman escorting an extradited prisoner in order to get through airport security, while the other two dress as LAPD policemen to get into the bank, bypass the alarm, and get a bank employee to open the safe.

The young Roma Zarah burgles an apartment in Basel, witnesses a murder, and escapes undetected but loses an amulet. In the meantime, Reto Hunkeler (Mathias Gnädinger), Kommissär (inspector) of the Basel Police, reflects on his impending retirement – in fact his boss, (prosecuting attorney) Staatsanwalt Suter, has already written him off and sends Hunkeler to Alsace to research a study about youth crime, but he prefers to spend his time at the local spa. When Hunkeler returns to Basel, a colleague tells him about the murder case that his partner is investigating: Aische Aydin, a young woman of Turkish origin, is found slain in her apartment in Basel where she lived the past five years. Her husband Ali Aydin (Baris Eren) is suspected, but he keeps silent, and Hunkeler's ambitious young colleague Madörin (Giles Tschudi) leads the investigations and arrests the victim’s husband.
