His name comes from an Italian word which can mean "bother" or "contention" in Italian; Florio's 1611 Italian- English Dictionary defines briga as meaning "a brable, a braule, a contention". Brighella in English would be therefore something like "Fighty" or "Brawly". The other Italian word attaccabrighe ("hellraiser") utilizes the same element.

During a game of basketball, Sky began feuding with Lana, and they started a brawl on the court. Of filming the fight, Neval stated, "We wanted to make it look spontaneous, and really gritty and brawly. It was a lot of fun learning how to choreograph a fight and how to be aware of the other actor and not actually hurt them." Set in early 1964. Three months after the events of A Little Yellow Dog, Easy is haunted by grief and guilt over the apparent shooting death of his friend Mouse, and without closure since Mouse's wife took his body from the hospital and disappeared, so Easy clings to an ephemeral hope that Mouse might not be dead. Bonnie Shay has moved in with Easy and his children. Easy's old friend John asks him to look for his stepson, Brawly Brown, a young man in his early twenties, hugely strong but immature, who has left home after an argument with his mother.

In 1735, Naples and Sicily were attacked by the Spanish Bourbon King Philip V of Spain. After Habsburgs lost Spain and Naples in the first half of the 18th century, a colony of their loyalist from those lands settled, mostly, in Vienna and Buda. They were receiving pensions and social welfare but the Austrian authorities were not happy with the immigrants and decided to resettle them in the Banat, in the town of Pančevo. The authorities were quite harsh, as the Court Chamber described the settlers as "lazy and brawly", that they "loaf through Vienna and other places, being completely useless" and that purpose of the relocation is "to force them to work".

A quickly growing alien plant and the arrival of two brawly Amrans, possible trade partners from another world, lead O'Neill to write a letter to General Hammond, his predecessor. At four days to Zero Hour, the alien plant has grown to cover many areas of the base. After SG-1 go missing on their off-world mission, a Goa'uld named Ba'al contacts Stargate Command and suggests an exchange of the captured SG-1 against Camulus, another Goa'uld who requested asylum on Earth several episodes before. With the help of Camulus, a potent power source is found and brought back to Stargate Command, only to find it tainted by Camulus (powering it up could result in the destruction of the Solar system).
