Peder Ekern (January 23, 1837 - June 25, 1899) was an American businessman and elected official. Peder Ekern was born near the village of Biri at Gjøvik in Oppland, Norway. The son of Henrik Ekern, he was the eldest of a family of six. He emigrated to the United States in 1868 with his wife and children.

In fact, more than half of the land area in the town proper, which is located at the northern coastline of the municipality are reclaimed lands from these swamplands. Being a coastal town, it has several islets within its municipal waters off its northern coast: Cabaungon (or Cabanongan) Grande, Cabaungon Pequiño, Tandang, Pangilala, Puropangdan, Matungko, and Maghungaw. They are plentiful in fishes, crustaceans, and other marine products. These islands along the coast of San Jose are protected as part of the Biri Larosa Protected Landscape and Seascape.

Hasselknippe was born in Biri as a son of car mechanic Lars Hasselknippe (1891–1946) and Paula Elvestad (1889–1979). He finished his secondary education in 1931, and worked as a journalist in Velgeren until 1938 (with interruptions while undergoing pilot training with the Royal Norwegian Navy Air Service and at civilian air schools), and then as subeditor in Ringerikes Blad. When World War II reached Norway on 9 April 1940, with the German invasion, Hasselknippe fought for Norway as a lieutenant in the engineer corps. Signal Rock is a 2018 Philippine independent drama film produced and directed by Chito S. Roño, starring Christian Bables together with an ensemble cast. The film was produced by CSR Productions and distributed by Regal Entertainment on August 15, 2018 which serves as the official entry to the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. It was selected as the Philippine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Based on a true story and set in 1990s, the film follows Intoy (Bables), as he takes care of his family in Biri, Samar while his sister is in the overseas, only to contact her using strange rock formations in the island.

Toten Deanery was created in 1737 by separation from Hadeland, Ringerike and Toten deaneries and Valdres and Hadeland deaneries. It included Biri, Vardal, Toten (divided into Østre Toten and Vestre Toten in 1825 and Feiring was simultaneously transferred to Hurdal), Land (divided into Søndre Land and Nordre Land in 1847), Aurdal (divided into Søndre Aurdal and Nordre Aurdal in 1805), Slidre (divided into Vestre Slidre and Øystre Slidre in 1848), Vang and Valdres. The two parts of the deanery - Toten (with Land) and Valdres - were separated between 1814–1816. The deanery was divided in 1853 into Toten deanery and Valdres (with Land) deanery, according to a Royal Resolution dated November 30, 1852.

Orthodox Albanians of Upper Reka practiced their native Albanian language not only in their everyday speech, church services, but also in gravestone inscriptions. An epitaph, written in the Albanian language in Cyrillic script from 1889, found by historian M. S. Filipović (1969), regarding a stock merchant, Andçe, son of Duko from Duf, who lived until 75 years of age and died of natural causes in 1889 in Tetovo and was buried there in the Orthodox cemetery.

On 8 January 1945, the division began movement to Leyte and Samar, to take part in cleaning out remaining Japanese forces on those islands, and to invade Biri, Capul, Ticao, and Burias. On Leyte, the division was relieved on 13 March 1945 and then landed on Cebu on 26 March, and seized the city and airfield by 28 March. Divisional combat teams made landings on Bohol, Negros, and Mindanao, where they cleared out pockets of resisting Japanese until 17 June when ordered to return to Cebu, arriving on 25 June. The Americal Division added by the newly local Filipino troops of the Philippine Commonwealth Army and Philippine Constabulary and the recognized guerrillas for the liberated in Visayas and Mindanao against the Japanese.

1924 national team; Károly Fogl, Zoltán Opata, Ferenc Hirzer, Rudolf Jeny, József Eisenhoffer, Béla Guttmann, Gyula Mándi, Gábor Obitz, József Braun, György Orth, János Biri, and Gyula Kiss Between 1921 and 1924, Guttmann also played six times for the Hungary national football team, scoring on his debut on 5 June 1921 in a 3–0 win against Germany. Later in the same month he also played against a Southern Germany XI. His remaining four appearances all came in May 1924 in games against Switzerland, Saarland, Poland, and Egypt. The latter two were at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. During the preparations for the competition Guttmann objected to the fact that there were more officials than players in the Hungary squad.

They fought, defeated and subjugated the Sayawa near present-day Tafawa Balewa, and built a walled town, naming it Leren-Zagezagi in the 1790s. The word ‘Lere’ could be translated to be the Fulbe phrase of ‘a permanent place’ or ‘station’. But according to Lere chroniclers, the name was derived from a daughter of Muhammad Dabo (Titi) who was married to Usman Biri. Nonetheless, the people of Leren-Zagezagi paid allegiance to the Habe ruler of Zazzau and it remained so until after the 1804 jihad in Bauchi, when Mallam Yakubu, the first Emir of Bauchi fought and annexed the territory in 1810 and forced them to pay allegiance to Bauchi instead of Zazzau, which marked its renaming to Leren Bauchi.

These songs, which were generally written by Fikret Şeneş and included "Kimler Geldi Kimler Geçti", "Palavra Palavra", "Sana Neler Edeceğim", "Hoş Gör Sen", "Sana Ne Kime Ne", "Bambaşka Biri", "Uykusuz Her Gece" and "O Benim Dünyam", later took their place among the best known songs of both Pekkan's career and the Turkish pop music genre. From the 1990s onwards, she worked with various songwriters and arrangers, including Şehrazat and Sezen Aksu. During this period, many of her songs such as "Yaz Yaz Yaz", "Sarıl Bana", "Eğlen Güzelim", "Vitrin", "Aynen Öyle" and "Yakar Geçerim" ranked among the best songs on Turkey's music charts. Her fame grew steadily throughout the 1970s outside her home country, and particularly in Europe, and it was reinforced by concerts in different countries.

In the middle of the street called Cross of Biri, Mattio made an attempt of self-crucifixion. Upon a frame that he had constructed of the timber of his bed, he was prevented from succeeding his attempt by several people who came upon him as he was driving a nail into his left foot. Being interrogated as to the motive for his self-crucifixion, he was silent, except that he once said to his brother, that that day was the festival of St. Matthew and that he could give no further explanation. Days after the affair, he set out for his own country, where he remained a certain time, but afterwards returned to Venice, and in July 1805, lodged in a room in the third floor of a house, in the street Delle Monache.

Ebenezer Obey formed the International Brothers in 1964, and his band soon rivalled that of IK Dairo as the biggest Nigerian group. They played a form of bluesy, guitar-based and highlife-influenced jùjú that included complex talking drum-dominated percussion elements. Obey's lyrics addressed issues that appealed to urban listeners, and incorporated Yoruba traditions and his conservative Christian faith. His rival was King Sunny Adé, who emerged in the same period, forming the Green Spots in 1966 and then achieving some major hits with the African Beats after 1974's Esu Biri Ebo Mi. Ade and Obey raced to incorporate new influences into jùjú music and to gather new fans; Hawaiian slack-key, keyboards and background vocals were among the innovations added during this rapidly changing period.

Otto Glória was the first manager to have won the competition with two different clubs, a feat later achieved by Fernando Vaz, José Maria Pedroto, Jimmy Hagan and Rui Vitória. Seven managers led their teams to consecutive wins in the tournament: János Biri (1943 & 1944), Cândido de Oliveira (1946 & 1948), Mário Lino (1973 & 1974), John Mortimore (1986 & 1987), Fernando Santos (2000 & 2001), Paulo Bento (2007 & 2008) and Jesualdo Ferreira (2009 & 2010). José Maria Pedroto is the only manager to have won three times in a row (1975–1977). Fourteen men have won the tournament both as a player and as a manager, namely Fernando Caiado, Juca, José Maria Pedroto, José Augusto, Mário Lino, António Morais, João Alves, Artur Jorge, Toni, António Oliveira, António Sousa, Paulo Bento, Pedro Emanuel and Sérgio Conceição.

Bust of a woman, now identified as Sobekneferu; Berlin Egyptian Museum 14475 The Statue of Sobekneferu was a sculpture of the ancient Egyptian queen Sobekneferu (about 1800 BC), who reigned during the 12th Dynasty. The bust with the ruler's preserved face is the first known statue of the queen with a face. The sculpture was kept in the Egyptian Museum of Berlin, but was lost in World War II. The bust was bought in 1899 (inventory no. 14475). The bust was about 14 cm high and made of greywacke. The identity of the woman shown was for a long time unknown,Biri Fay proposed already in 1988 Sobekneferu as the women depicted: B. Fay: Amenemhat V -Vienna/Aswan, in: Mitteilungen des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts, Kairo 44 (1988), 74-75, note 64 as the piece is uninscribed.

Some of the classes are used exclusively for particular types of noun; for example classes 1 and 2 are for nouns related to people, singular and plural respectively, classes 7, 8 and 11 refer to big versions of nouns in other classes, and class 14 is for abstract nouns. Adjectives applied to nouns generally take a prefix matching the prefix of the noun. For example, the word abantu (people) is a class 2 noun with preprefix a- and prefix ba-; when applying the adjective -biri (two) to that noun, it takes the class 2 prefix ba-, so "two people" translates as abantu babiri; ibintu (things) is a class 4 noun with prefix bi-, thus "two things" translates as ibintu bibiri. The Banyarwanda do not have a long history of written literature, and very little historical texts exist in the Kinyarwanda language.

He was born in 1903 in Üsküdar, a suburb of Istanbul, into a family of naval officers. Mustafa Şekip Birgöl graduated from Işıklar Military Secondary School in Bursa before attending Kuleli High School in Edirne. After finishing the Military Academy in Istanbul, he joined Kuvayi Milliye under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal to fight against the Allies partitioning the Ottoman Empire after it was defeated in World War I. Gülşen, who has received positive reception from music critics and alongside her singing career is a prominent figure as a songwriter, started singing her own songs, especially after the early years of her career, and has produced many hit songs for her colleagues as well. In 2015, she became the Turkish singer with the most number of viewers on YouTube and a year later she became the first Turkish singer to have a music video watched over 200 million times on the platform. Throughout her career, she has won numerous awards, including six Golden Butterfly Awards and nine Kral Turkey Music Awards.

Deim Zubeir, from the Arabic ديم الزبير [“Daim az-Zubayr”], commonly translated as the “Camp of Zubeir”, is the historically established but highly controversial name of Uyujuku town in the Lol State of the Republic of South Sudan, located in the Western Bahr El Ghazal part of the country, some 70 km from the border with the Central African Republic (CAR), near the Biri tributary of the River Chel. Due to different transliterations from the Arabic, the name components are also spelled in various combinations Dem, Dehm, Deym, Dam, Daym or Daim, and Zubair, Zubayr, Zoubair, Zoubeir, Zoubayr, Zobeir, Ziber, Zebehr, or Zubier, respectively. The historical remains of the slave camp have been designated a potential UNESCO World Heritage Centre site. In the collective memory of South Sudanese people, the very name Deim Zubeir rings as a synonym for millennia of slavery, at least since Pharaonic times.

Four years later, after refusing an increase in rent, they relocated to Campo de Benfica. Finally, in 1925, they moved to their own stadium, the Estádio das Amoreiras, playing there fifteen years before moving to the Estádio do Campo Grande in 1940. The Portuguese league began in 1934, and after finishing third in its first edition, Benfica won the next three championships in a row (1935–36, '36–37, '37–38) – the club's first tri, achieved by Lippo Hertzka. Throughout the 1940s, Benfica would win three more Primeira Liga (1941–42, '42–43, '44–45) and four Taça de Portugal (1940, '43, '44, '49), with coach János Biri achieving the first double for the club in 1943. Benfica's first international success happened in 1950, when they won the Latin Cup (the only Portuguese club to do so), defeating Bordeaux with a golden goal from Julinho at the Estádio Nacional in Lisbon, with Ted Smith as coach.

After a very irregular season, Bento managed to lead Sporting to an unprecedented third consecutive qualification for the Champions League, with another second-place finish in spite of spending most of the year below third place, pipping Guimarães and Benfica in the final matchday. He also retained the Taça de Portugal, beating Porto in the final (2–0 after extra time) after knocking-out eternal rivals Benfica in the last-four stage with a 5–3 triumph. Bento's team broke a number of long- standing club records, including the first season without home defeats since 1987, the first capture of back-to-back Portuguese cups since 1974 and the first time since 1962 that Sporting finished three consecutive campaigns in the top two league positions. At the age of 38, he also became only the fifth manager in the history of Portuguese football to win back-to-back Portuguese cups, alongside the likes of Janos Biri, John Mortimore or José Maria Pedroto. On 15 July 2008, The Sun and The Daily Telegraph reported that Manchester United were planning to hire Bento (reportedly Cristiano Ronaldo's friend and former teammate) as manager Alex Ferguson's new assistant after the departure of previous number two Carlos Queiroz to manage the Portuguese national team.
