In the 1981 Kentucky Derby under regular jockey Jorge Velásquez, Pleasant Colony held off a powerful stretch drive by Woodchopper to win by three-quarters of a length. The expected rivalry with Woodchopper never materialized in the Preakness Stakes. Pleasant Colony came from behind to win by a length over Arkansas Derby winner Bold Ego with Woodchopper far back in eleventh place. In the third and final leg of the Triple Crown series, the Belmont Stakes, Pleasant Colony finished third to winner Summing.

His father Sonny Bolstad was also a New Zealand representative axeman. David Bolstad died suddenly in 2011 after winning a competition in the town of Waiuku.

Its log building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The two-story approximately building is built from approximately logs, peeled but not hewn.

He is the father of former Kentucky University men's basketball player Tai Wynyard. Wynyard formerly held the world record time for the standing block chop. He recorded a time of 12.11 seconds in the 2003 Stihl Timbersports.

Ferry Svan is a Swedish professional woodchopper and logging sportsman, and the son of champion skier Gunde Svan. He is the first Swedish person to compete in a World Championship in logging sports, the first Swede to win a World Championship, and the youngest person to compete in logging sports as a Senior athlete. He has previously held four Swedish national records. He competes in the Stihl Timbersports Series.

French-Canadian lumberjack Pierre de Woodchopper (Daws Butler) finds a suitable tree for chopping – a tree which is, of course, Woody Woodpecker's happy home. He must desert his tree-home as it falls into the river with other logs, thanks to the woodchopper's axe. But it becomes the lone log that controls the log jam. If it should fall, the jam would break and wreck Pierre's mill down the river.

The boom died down by 1902, but two large dredge operations continued at Coal Creek and Woodchopper Creek, with smaller claims at scattered sites. Geologist John Beaver Mertie, Jr. mapped much of the region in the early 1900s. On January 9, 1986, the United States Board of Geographic Names approved naming an Alaskan mountain range after Mertie. The Mertie Mountains are located in the Yukon–Charley Rivers National Preserve, between Fairbanks and Eagle.

John Edward (Ned) Shewry (1889 - 1 August 1962), was a world champion woodchopper from New Zealand. Born in Stratford, New Zealand, he was one of 11 children of John and Elizabeth Shewry. The Shewrys were early settlers in Tahora in the Eastern Taranaki hill country, where they set to clearing a large block of land on Moki Road for pasture between the Makino and Waitaanga forests. The felling of timber dominated the lives of the Shewry family, and growing up in this setting clearly left a lasting impression on the young John Edward.

DeSarro started his Stock car racing career at the then New London Waterford Speedbowl, then moved over to the Norwood Arena. In 1970 Fred won the National Modified championship driving the Sonny Kozella "Woodchoper" Special #15. In 1971 he started his association with Lenny Boehler and the "Ole Blue" #3, while Bugsy Stevens, his friend, took over driving the Kozella "Woodchopper" #15. In 1972, DeSarro won the inaugural Spring Sizzler and went on to win the Stafford Motor Speedway Championship, and again won the Stafford Motor Speedway Championship in 1976.

Larson brothers guitars were popular with the country and western singers on WLS-AM in Chicago and the National Barn Dance. They were played by Marjorie Lynn, the Prairie Ramblers, Arkie, the Arkansas Woodchopper, Gene Autry, and Patsy Montana. On 25 June 1965, Bob Dylan went on stage at the Newport Folk Festival with an electric guitar. Dylan and the band rehearsed only three songs, leaving much of the audience wanting more. This performance signaled Dylan's move towards a rock n’ roll with lyrical content and meaning, changing the genre forever.

Uzcudun, known as Paulino in the United States, was the European heavyweight champion, and he fought heavyweight champions Joe Louis, Max Baer, Max Schmeling (three times) and Primo Carnera (twice) during his career. The former butcher—nicknamed "the Basque woodchopper"—retired from boxing with a record of 49 wins (33 KOs), 17 losses and 3 draws. Uzcudun was a rugged boxer with a crouched stance. He had a powerful left hook, and fought the toughest heavyweights of his time. He had only one opportunity at the world's heavyweight championship, but was defeated in a fifteen-round fight by Primo Carnera of Italy on October 22, 1933.

After an unsuccessful attempt to rob a woodchopper, the duo encounters Fra Diavolo, who orders Stanlio to hang Ollio for impersonating him. Diavolo is then informed that his men have stolen Lady Pamela's jewels but have not brought the 500,000 francs hidden by Rocburg. Diavolo, again disguised as the marquis, takes Stanlio and Ollio with him as his servants to an inn, where he plans to steal Rocburg's 500,000 francs, and where, as Marquis de San Marco, he again romances Lady Pamela. Stanlio and Ollio mistakenly capture Lord Rocburg, who has disguised himself as the marquis in an attempt to win back his wife.

"Audience with the Man" and "From Here to Eternity" do bear repeated listens, but too much of The Candidate clung so lifelessly to the stylus that it was hard to believe our hopes had ever soared so high." Of the 2000 re-issue of the album, Q commented: "Despite Harley returning to Blighty, the splendid The Candidate sold so poorly that EMI dumped what four years previously had been their major act. "Freedom's Prisoner" deserved to be an enormous hit, "Woodchopper" rhymes 'editorial' with 'accusatorial', and the soul-baring "One More Time" ruminates lasciviously on being taken from behind the leopardesses. Time surely for a little readjustment of history.

Imprisoned at the Hammerstein camp, Akhmanov was released after the end of the war in December 1918 and in January 1919 began working as a woodchopper at a bakery in Kazan. Drafted into the Red Army in July 1919 during the Russian Civil War, Akhmanov was sent to study at the 1st Infantry Command Courses in Kazan. After graduating in March 1920, he became a platoon commander in the 4th Reserve Regiment, and in April transferred to command a company of the 113th Rifle Regiment. Akhmanov fought in Estonia and Finland, and after the end of hostilities with those countries was transferred to the Southern Front, where he served with the 131st Rifle Regiment of the 15th Inza Rifle Division as a company and then battalion commander.

The George McGregor Cabin on the Yukon River, about two miles downstream from Coal Creek, in the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve of Alaska is a historic Log cabin built in 1938 that was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1987. George McGregor was a successful gold miner, who staked multiple gold claims including the "discovery claim" on Mineral Creek, a tributary of Woodchopper Creek, which he worked for about 10 years and then sold these in the mid-1930s. Then he switched to trapping for furs; in 1938 he built this cabin and developed a trapline. As the trapline would be operated in the winter, by dogsled visits, he fished in the summer for food for his dogs using a fishwheel.

She joined the WLS radio family in 1941 with little training, having only worked on the vaudeville bill with movie cowboy Buck Jones. She quickly had her own morning show, "Smile-A- While," with the WLS Rangers and also appeared Saturday nights on the Barn Dance, choosing her stage name based on British singer Vera Lynn. According to the WLS archives, "she was placed on staff after one audition," after meeting with Program Director Harold Safford and Production Director Al Boyd. She appeared on the Barn Dance with such talent as Pat Buttram (later famous in the role of Mr. Haney on the TV series Green Acres), Arkie the Arkansas Woodchopper,Arkie's hit I'm in the Jail House Now was featured in the George Clooney movie O' Brother Where Art Thou.

Hermine Reuss of Greiz and Wilhelm II at Huis Doorn in 1933 Mausoleum of Wilhelm II The property was purchased for 500,000 guilders in 1919 by Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor, as his residence-in-exile (1920–1941), following his abdication after World War I. During his years in exile, he was allowed to travel freely within a 15-kilometre radius of his house, but journeys farther than that meant that advance notice had to be given to a local government official. As he disliked having to kowtow to a minor official, he rarely journeyed beyond the "free" limit. The former Emperor regularly exercised by chopping down many of the estate's trees, splitting the logs into stacks of firewood, thereby denuding the matured landscape as the years progressed. Hence he was called by his enemies "The Woodchopper of Doorn".

2015 p 155 Djanbazian left Qazvin for Tehran in 1942. There, he started to give dancing classes in the Armenian Kušeš high school after the lessons had ended, initially for some 150 students. His perseverance, energy, and tireless effort made him establish the Tehran Ballet School in 1942 in Tehran. Djanbazian staged many full stage ballets in Iran. As the Encyclopedia Iranica states, these included but are not limited to Alexander Pushkin’s “Fountain of Baghchehsarai” and “Dreams of Hafez,” and Reinhold Glière’s “Chinese Flower Girl,” and choreographed shorter ballets such as “Jealousy” (Ḥesādat), “Persian Miniature” (Miniātorhā-ye Irāni), “Anuš,” as well as several classical and traditional Persian dance pieces including “Gol-e gandom,” “Woodchopper” (Tabar-zan), “Sailors” (Malavānān), “Life and Death” (Zendegi va marg, widely known as “Snake Dance” or Raqṣ- mār), “Prayers in the mountains” (Raqṣ-e namāz), “Qāli-e Kermān,” and “Šālikāri”.

This may reflect the usage where an object made of iron or steel but coated with tin (in order to prevent rusting) is called a "Tin" object, as a "tin bath", a "tin toy", or a "tin can"; thus, the Tin Woodman might be interpreted (in English, at least) as being made of steel with a tin veneer. One passage in The Road to Oz, by Baum himself, wherein the Woodman attends Ozma's birthday party accompanied by a Winkie band playing a song called "There's No Plate Like Tin," strongly implies that this is the case. Another explanation may be that the Woodman is chiefly made of tin, with iron joints; in some of the illustrations, his joints are a different color from the rest of his body.L.
