Most Shetland crofts would have at least one grice kept on grazing lands, but they would often roam across adjacent farmland, rooting up crops and occasionally killing and eating newborn lambs. According to geologist Samuel Hibbert, who wrote an account of the islands in 1822, although the grice was "small and scrawny", its meat made "excellent hams" when cured. Foster's Tavern was built by Anthony Foster, with construction beginning in 1801 and taking seven years or more to complete. The house is made of locally made bricks and features tied chimneys (separate chimneys joined by a wall or facade) at each end of a gable roof, hand carved woodwork including bowed mantels and stair scrollwork, blown-glass windowpanes, soapstone hearths, cattle-hair plaster and original shutter pintles. The portico with its fanlight was added in 1845 and the porches about 1915. Foster's Tavern housed John C. One notable example was a hut (known as funco) in Chã das Caldeiras featuring traditional architecture, its bricks were made out of lavaOne of the unique architecture on Fogo was Chã das Caldeiras which has building material made out of lava, most of the buildings were built after independence especially the southwest part which were rebuilt after the 1995 eruption. Its architecture is not only of Portuguese origin but contain elements of mainland African styles such as old traditional huts and a circular plan as those in mainland African villages and towns and had only one story. It had straw roofs, bricks mainly black made out of lava, straw windowpanes and doors In other parts of Cape Verde, only a very few village have hut style buildings. Huts covered a quarter of the village.

The ARF took part in the search which led to the discovery of Hecla-class bomb vessel HMS Erebus in September 2014.Franklin ship found in Arctic is HMS Erebus In September 2016, the ARF announced the discovery of the wreck of the Royal Navy's long-lost HMS Terror off the south-west coast of King William Island in Terror Bay, which was abandoned in 1848 during Sir John Franklin's ill-fated voyage through the Northwest Passage. ARF spokesperson, Adrian Schimnowski, said the wreck was found in nearly pristine condition in about of water, with most windowpanes still intact. The Royal Canadian Navy assisted ARF members in finding the wreck of HMS Terror, with ARF founder Jim Balsillie thanking the Navy for its efforts saying, "This historic discovery could not have happened without the Royal Canadian Navy".

Braunschweig's city centre burning on the night of 15 October 1944 Before long, about 847 tonnes of bombs had been dropped on the city. First to be deployed were about 12,000 explosive bombs – the so- called "blockbusters" – carpet bombing the old timber-framed town centre to start the intended firestorm in the most efficient way, by smashing up the wooden houses. Blast waves blew the roofs off houses, exposing the insides, blew windowpanes out, splintered the inner structure, broke walls down, tore electricity and water supplies up, and drove firefighters and rescue service personnel into cellars and bunkers, along with damage observers. After the wave of explosive bombs, about 200,000 phosphorus and incendiary bombs were dropped, which were designed to ignite the destroyed buildings and create a firestorm, which would still be burning long after the bombers had returned to England.
