By the late 1630s Hammerton transitioned from female to male roles. He played in Sir John Suckling's The Goblins, James Shirley's The Doubtful Heir, and Thomas Killigrew's The Parson's Wedding.

The Wild Goose Chase is a late Jacobean stage play, a comedy written by John Fletcher, first performed in 1621. It is often classed among Fletcher's most effective and best-constructed plays; Edmund Gosse called it "one of the brightest and most coherent of Fletcher's comedies, a play which it is impossible to read and not be in a good humour."Gosse, p. 81. The drama's wit, sparkle, and urbanity anticipated and influenced the Restoration comedy of the later decades of the seventeenth century.

In the late 1630s he played the title character in George Chapman's Bussy D'Ambois, after the previous actor in the role, Taylor, had grown too "grey" for the role of a young firebrand. Swanston also originated some of the leading roles in the company's productions of Philip Massinger's plays. He played the role of Lugier, "the rough and confident tutor to the ladies," in a 1632 revival of Fletcher's The Wild Goose Chase. He was Melantius in revivals of The Maid's Tragedy, and may have played the lead in Philaster.
Because of this, the characters Queenie and Lowbutt do not appear in this version, nor do the songs "It Takes All Sorts" and "Together". Certain songs are cut (see the song list above), whilst others, such as "Look At Him" are shortened with the lyrics slightly changed. The lyrics in "Warts and All" were also changed slightly to appeal to younger audiences. "The Wild Goose Chase", a song that normally appears at the end of the first act, opens Act 2 to fill the gap normally filled by Queenie and Lowbutt.

Four copies of the image were taken throughout the country to find the right woman. A brahmin from Kapila had a daughter called Bhadra-Kapilānī (), who had no interest in a family life either.
Mary Jo was another of Charlie Brown's "true loves" in Someday You'll Find Her, Charlie Brown. He first saw her during the broadcast of Super Bowl XVI; she was in the audience and the TV camera zoomed in on her face. The only difference between her and any other of his loves is that, while he is extremely nervous about the others (so nervous, in fact, that he cannot even bring himself to speak to some of them), he sought after her in a wild-goose chase attempt to find her and win her heart.
Thomas Midgley (who held a PhD and was the inventor of tetraethyl lead and halogenated hydrocarbon refrigerants) said of trial and error, "the trick is to turn a wild goose chase into a fox hunt" (quoted in Hughes 2004). Such leading edge work requires a combination of theory and empirical approaches. Edison used a "bottom-up theoretical approach" when developing electric lighting, undertaking detailed analysis of the whole electric lighting system based on Joule's and Ohm's laws. This led him to conclude that to be economically successful he had to produce a high resistance lamp (around 100 ohms).
Meanwhile, LeMonde bluffs STRIKE by arming a fake nuclear bomb in an old temple compound, which results in Naja attempting to locate the warhead and LeMonde. At the same time, the player is sent on a wild goose chase attacking a decoy convoy thought to have the nuclear bomb being transported away from Indocine. In actuality, LeMonde escapes capture long before STRIKE could catch up to him and he managed to smuggle the real nuclear bomb away from Indocine off-screen. This prompts the player to extract Naja from the now booby-trapped compound before the whole compound blew up sky high.
Report to the Commissioner is a 1975 crime drama film based on James Mills' 1972 novel. It involves a rookie cop (Michael Moriarty) in the New York City Police Department who is assigned a special missing person case, which in fact is meant to be a wild-goose chase to back up an undercover female police officer's role as the girlfriend of a drug dealer. The film was directed by Milton Katselas and features a musical score by Elmer Bernstein. The script is by two Oscar-winning screenwriters, Abby Mann (Judgment at Nuremberg) and Ernest Tidyman (The French Connection).
At one point in his report he stated that he "had become disgusted and had left Vermont." He also recorded how the local officials "told me they thought I was crazy and thought I had been on a wild goose chase." Another example of how Wood included details about his own experiences intermixed with his investigation is his discussion of his first night in Vermont: > I then spent the entire night at work alone on this case. I visited the lot > where the body was found, visited the Buzzell Hotel, studied the lightening > conditions and decided then that Mrs.
In the 1980s, American academic Eldon Pike seeks out Flora's younger sister Eleanor to discover the truth about the end of the poet's life — she died in India soon after meeting Nirad. Eleanor, who married an Englishman she met at Flora's grave and became a staunch Conservative, reveals little to the scholar, sending him off on a wild goose chase tracing Flora's path through India. But she is more welcoming to Nirad's son Anish, who also comes looking for answers. Eleanor shows Anish a painting by Nirad done partly in a classical Indian style, and partly in the style of Western realism.

The final series, Take Off With T-Bag, broke the mould the previous series had set. This time T-Bag was the protagonist and travelled in her spaceship with both T-shirt (who was willingly working for her now) and a new character named Tow Ling Shirt who was T-shirt's Chinese cousin. She spent the series collecting golden envelopes which were leading to her birthday surprise. In the final episode of the series, she found that she had been on a wild goose chase while Granny Bag set up a surprise party for her during the distraction.
The police were criticized for embarking on a costly wild-goose chase across the country when, for that whole year, the truck was just a few kilometres from the murder site. It now seemed more and more likely that the killer lived in the Clearwater area as few outsiders would be familiar with the maze of logging roads on Trophy Mountain. The truck was lifted out of the forest by a Sikorsky helicopter and flown down the mountain to a flat-bed truck, then taken to the RCMP crime lab in Vancouver. The media were told that the truck yielded no new clues.
Her decision was a surprise to her friends, some of whom said she was "going on a wild-goose chase;" or, the old story, that she was "throwing herself away;" or, for her it was "a descent in the social scale." But none of these things moved her. After her decision was made, she at once commenced her preparations — visited her old home, and traveled over the country visiting many points of interest. She entered the service not for worldly gain; her salary was only , but she was willing to supplement the deficiency by drawing upon her own financial resources.

More than 200 LTTE guerrillas were killed and an arms depot seized.

Even when they do get signed, Gaston can always be counted on to accidentally destroy them. Over the years, Fantasio and Prunelle's efforts to get the iconic contracts signed become increasingly frantic and desperate. Prunelle even goes so far as to send Lagaffe to the other side of town on some wild goose chase or bound and gag him and lock him into a cupboard but even these drastic measures backfire and fail. On two occasions, De Mesmaeker actually ended up signing other contracts with Gaston spontaneously, instead of the contracts, both merchandising deals over Gaston's inventions (the "Cosmo-clock", an Apollo spacecraft-shaped cuckoo clock, and a soup recipe).
Wild goose chase: There is some question as to whether Eliot originally intended The Waste Land to be a collection of individual poems (additional poems were supplied to Pound for his comments on including them) or to be considered one poem with five sections. The structure of the poem is also meant to loosely follow the vegetation myth and Holy Grail folklore surrounding the Fisher King story as outlined by Jessie Weston in her book From Ritual to Romance (1920). Weston's book was so central to the structure of the poem that it was the first text that Eliot cited in his "Notes on the Waste Land".
Observation received "generally favorable" reviews from critics, according to review aggregator Metacritic. Destructoid called the game "expertly paced" but also complained of occasional hiccups when some of the puzzles became "a point-and- click-adventure-style wild goose chase." GameSpot praised the games visuals, saying "Observation absolutely nails its distinct lo-fi, sci-fi aesthetic," and concluding that it "is a wonderful example of how to do focused, self- contained science-fiction storytelling in a game." Several outlets praised the game's storytelling and plot, which was described as "gripping" by Game Informer and IGN, with PC Gamer stating "(it) kept me hooked from beginning to end".
"I had a bitter dispute with the writer", said Evans. Schulman later recalled: > I got in my contract all of the Dramatist Guild guarantees: I had approval > of the director, not a word [of the script] could be changed without my > consent, and so forth. Immediately after I finished the screenplay, Bob > Evans sent me on a wild goose chase to Rome to cast a part he had already > cast—I found out months later—with Max Schell. When I got back, I found out > that six or seven writers were working on different versions of the script, > all at the same time with none of them knowing about the other.

Sunaina and Shankar intend to marry Aman off to a family friend's daughter, Kusum Nigam, who is besotted with Aman. During this time, Aman and Kartik help the latter's friend, Vedika, run away from home, and after giving her father and his neighbours a wild goose chase, they initially argue but decide to go to Allahabad together. They boarded the train "Vivah Express" on which Aman's family boarded, and unite. Sometime after changing their attire, Aman and Kartik share a kiss as the train passes through a tunnel, but are caught shamefacedly by Shankar, who ends up vomiting at the sight of his son kissing a man, and falls unconscious.
His style, described as "spectacular" and "brash" is also evident on "Ol' Man River", "Wild Goose Chase", "No Name Jive" and "Nagasaki". He stayed until March 1936, when he formed another more unusual group, Sonny Lee and The New Yorkers Band, which featured 14 pieces, with ten of his musicians doubling on trumpet. After the band failed to secure adequate bookings, he moved to Europe for three months and in 1937 returned to the Casa Loma Orchestra, where he remained until 1940 when he tried again to form his own group, this time, with more success. His new band debuted in July 1940 at the Glendale Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Pollard played the role of Pinac in The Wild Goose Chase in the 1632 revival, and was in a number of other Fletcherian plays, The Lovers' Progress,The Maid in the Mill, The Queen of Corinth, Sir John van Olden Barnavelt, and The Spanish Curate. Pollard acted parts in plays by Philip Massinger, including The Roman Actor (Aelius Lamia and Stephanus), Believe as You List (Berecinthius), and The Picture (Ubaldo). He also acted in works by John Ford, including The Laws of Candy and The Lover's Melancholy; and by James Shirley, including The Cardinal. He "doubled" several small parts in John Clavell's The Soddered Citizen (1630).
At the beginning of series one, Connor is seen as a student of Cutter's, but one who does not attend many lectures, although he has already completed his dissertation. Later in episode 1.1, he claims he has "sinus issues and allergies", but his database proves invaluable and he becomes part of the team. In episode 1.2, he admits he started the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, but did not complete it, due to a sprained ankle. While Connor finds the idea of the time anomalies exciting, he questions his own usefulness after he leads Abby Maitland (Hannah Spearritt) on a wild goose chase in episode 1.2, especially after being reprimanded for it.

She decides to reveal it to Constantine, a resident of a luxury apartment complex near her own. Constantine is a skilled mage and visionary political theorist with dreams of moving the world beyond its stagnant situation.
This was a standard part of the King's Men's style of theatre; in the previous generation of Shakespeare and Burbage, hired man John Sinkler played thin-man roles like Pinch in The Comedy of Errors and Shadow in Henry IV, Part 2. Shank seems to have been cast in the same dramatic function within the company as Sinkler. Shank may have joined the King's Men as early as 1613; the company was licensed to perform something called Shank's Ordinary, probably a jig, on 16 March 1614. Shank played the clown role in John Clavell's The Soddered Citizen in 1630, and the servant Petella in the 1632 revival of John Fletcher's The Wild Goose Chase.
Drake was also pleased at his good luck, and he showed it by dining with Cagafuegos officers and gentleman passengers. He offloaded his captives a short time later, and gave each one gifts appropriate to their rank, as well as a letter of safe conduct. Through Diego, Drake was able to bluff the Spanish and made it clear that there were other English ships in the area such as the Elizabeth under John Wynter (even though he had returned home) in order to cause some kind of panic and confusion and lead the Spanish into a wild-goose chase. On 16 March Luis de Toldeo and Gamboa sailed into Manta to gather any information they could get on Drake.

Hank manages to get Rip and Snort into the Deadly Ha-Ha Game with him, in which they take turns saying "ha", "ha ha", "ha ha ha", "ha ha ha ha" and so on until one of them starts laughing. Soon the coyotes are laughing so hard they cannot stop, and Hank and Drover run away.
Miles was also regularly seen standing on street corners with a sign offering to quote verses from Shakespeare for between sixpence and three shillings. Miles' writings are in the State Library, some in her own handwriting. They are: Dictionary by a Bitch, I Go on a Wild Goose Chase, I Leave in a Hurry, For We Are Young and Free, Notes on Sydney Monuments and Advance Australia Fair. Fiercely patriotic, at twelve years old Miles wore a 'No Conscription' badge to school during the referendum in World War I. In another incident Miles was disgusted when she was severely marked down for an essay about Gallipoli, which she described as a 'strategical blunder', rather than 'a wonderful war effort'.
As they progress, they meet comrades from every walk of life in Soviet Russian society, transforming the film into a satirical send up of failing Communism. By posing as the official in charge of the Department of Chairs, Bender tricks Father Fyodor into a wild goose chase to recover a similar set of eleven chairs in the possession of an engineer in a remote province in Siberia. Father Fyodor makes the long journey only to be thrown out of the engineer's house. When the engineer is reassigned to a post on the Black Sea, Fyodor follows him and buys the counterfeit chairs (on the condition that the engineer and his wife never see him again).
Bourne goes to Shanghai, under an alias, but he later disposes of his disguise and pursues Ouyang's right-hand man, Colonel Sun. After finding out about this, Amir Ophir, another Israeli Mossad member, sends an assassin named Retzach to kill Bourne, but Bourne kills Retzach instead. Following this, Bourne goes on a wild goose chase for Ouyang, which comes to a head in Mexico City, where he encounters Maricruz, wife of Ouyang Jidan, who has been injured in an attack by a rival cartel in Mexico and is currently caring for a girl named Angel. Later, Colonel Sun appears at the hospital and, upon seeing Maricruz with Angel, begins verbally abusing and later threatening Angel.
A stainless-steel statue to Llywelyn ap Gruffydd Fychan was unveiled in 2001 on the north side of Llandovery Castle, overlooking the place of his execution 600 years earlier. He had led the army of King Henry IV on a "wild goose chase", under the pretence of leading them to a secret rebel camp and an ambush of Glyndŵr's forces. King Henry lost patience with him, exposed the charade and had him half hanged, disembowelled in front of his own eyes, beheaded and quartered – the quarters salted and dispatched to other Welsh towns for public display. The design of the statue, by Toby and Gideon Petersen, was chosen after a national competition.
On the September 10 edition of Sin Límite, it was revealed in a secret conversation between Jarrett and Konnan, that the person who had interfered in the match was in fact La Sociedad member Chessman, not El Zorro. Konnan's plan was to send Park on a "wild-goose chase" after El Zorro instead of continuing to chase Jarrett's title. Chessman was rewarded for his deed on September 16, when Konnan named him La Legión Extranjeras new general, taking over the spot previously held by El Zorro. Chessman, the new general of La Legión Extranjera The undercard of Héroes Inmortales included a lumberjack match, which incorporated three less featured rivalries into a single match.
Molay accompanies the Ducks to Haiti, but purposefully attempts to send them on a wild goose chase. When they nevertheless manage to locate the crown, he claims ownership of it, as the IMC was formerly the Bank of the Templar Order. The Ducks manage to prove that his claim is null and void because of the switch to the Gregorian calendar (executed by skipping ten days), which meant that there never was an October 13, 1582. Eventually, however, the government of Haiti is recognized as the rightful owner of the crown, and Scrooge is satisfied by keeping the fabric on which the crown was wrapped in as it's the Clan McDuck tartan, indicating the Knights Templar's vast treasure is located at Castle McDuck.
The second day of Ardent included a mass raid by 70 aircraft simulating an attack on Glasgow and then continuing on to drop live ammunition on the Redesdale tank range southwest of Berwick-upon-Tweed. During the second half of the attack, Lincolns and Mosquitos dropped target markers while the two Mosquito jammer aircraft operated nearby. This time a "highly confused situation" developed in the plotting rooms, and a number of fighters were sent after a non-existent raid, so only 40 interceptions were carried out against the main force. The bombers went on to make a mock raid on York while most of the fighters had to return to their bases to refuel after being sent off on the wild goose chase.
However, its young and rebellious citizens, heirs of those from a generation that needed to make the city its home, are themselves repelling the waves of new migration, sowing seeds of division." The film was also an honourable mention in Rappler's 12 best Filipino Films of 2018. Bill Mousoulis the founding editor of Senses of Cinema said: "This is breathtaking cinema that is just extraordinary. It's one of the best Australian films of this decade" Jake Wilson of The Age put it on his 'top 5 films of the week', "In the spirit of Godard and Wong Kar-Wai, local writer-director Matthew Victor Pastor throws every available idea into this wild goose chase through Melbourne after dark... An arresting introduction to a talent going places.
Soon the American force retired in the confusion of the melee while the Japanese area commander sent his escorts on a wild goose chase after American submarines! Vance's bronze star citation took note that he had skillfully fired four salvoes in a battle at close range, in which a wide variety of target speeds and approaches had been used and had directed the fire by means of an old-fashioned open sight. By his "ability, resourcefulness, and devotion to duty," Vance contributed substantially to Parrott's performance in the United States Navy's first surface action victory—a tactical one at best—in the war against Japan. Parrott then continued her operations in defense of the Malay barrier, taking part in the Battle of Badoeng Strait on 20 February—an action in which the ship was damaged.
Shank also played an important role in training the company's apprentices, the boy actors who played the female roles in plays prior to the advent of stage actresses in the Restoration era. Shank trained Thomas Pollard, Thomas Holcomb, John Honyman, Nicholas Burt, and John Thompson, who were significant members of the company in the late Jacobean and Caroline eras. (Later, Shank would claim that he spent £40 on Thompson, and £200 on his apprentices overall.) Shank is known to have played at least one female role himself in these years, the minor part of the servant Petella in the company's 1632 revival of Fletcher's The Wild Goose Chase. This suggests that Shank taught boys and young men to play stage females based at least in part on his own experience.
309 The five parts of The Waste Land are entitled: #The Burial of the Dead #A Game of Chess #The Fire Sermon #Death by Water #What the Thunder Said The text of the poem is followed by several pages of notes, purporting to explain his metaphors, references, and allusions. Some of these notes are helpful in interpreting the poem, but some are arguably even more puzzling, and many of the most opaque passages are left unannotated. The notes were added after Eliot's publisher requested something longer to justify printing The Waste Land in a separate book. Thirty years after publishing the poem with these notes, Eliot expressed his regret at "having sent so many enquirers off on a wild goose chase after Tarot cards and the Holy Grail".
When the Noah that Betty rescued was ultimately exposed as Maximus' henchman, the Chameleon, Paloma ultimately rescues the real Noah from Maximus by disguising herself as the Chameleon. However, this causes Maximus' rage to boil over, and he threatens to destroy Earth while chasing Betty's ship. Paloma and Juanita make the decision to leave Betty and her crew, and take control Betty's starcruiser and lead Maximus on a wild goose chase as Betty and her crew escapes on an escape pod. It is implied that she later manages to return to Earth, as Betty is seen piloting the starcruiser in later episodes, though she does not play a further role in the series, but is seen later in the third season in the background crowd of a school dance in "Love Bites".
