The gardens have large quantities of rare orchids and wild flower meadows which extend down to the Solent shore. The former Forge Hammer Inn adjacent to the house and ironworks was used by smugglers in the eighteenth century to hide contraband.
In 1901, Gertrude joined the Wild Flower Society, adding botany to her list of interests and achievements. On 23 July 1923, Gertrude Bacon and botanist and illustrator Lady Joanna Charlotte Davy (1865-1955) made the first discovery of Carex microglochin or Bristle Sedge in Great Britain. In 1929, Gertrude Bacon married a fellow botanist and chemist, Thomas Jackson Foggitt (2 Mar 1858 - 30 Oct 1934). Gertrude was his second wife, and outlived him by 15 years.
After the mid-1950s, James lost interest in promoting his work on a national stage, but he continued his prolific output, producing many watercolors of rural Missouri and Kansas, especially the Flint Hills of Kansas. In addition to his watercolors, James did murals for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, Kansas; the Overland Park State Bank, and the Kansas and Consumer's Coop Association. He also completed a wild flower series of prints of the New York Botanical Garden. He died in 1985.
The Wild Flower and the Rose is a 1910 American silent short drama produced by the Thanhouser Company. Britton went on to serve as secretary and treasurer of the organization. The Society established numerous local chapters. It was incorporated in the state of New York in 1915, then reorganized as the Wild Flower Preservation Society in 1925, with Percy L. Ricker as its head. Britton vigorously promoted the cause for nearly 35 years, by publishing, lecturing, and conducting correspondence; her efforts led to adoption of legislation in various states, as well as local conservation activities in garden clubs and public schools.
No American wildflower is more popular than the large white trillium. Indeed, the Trillium species most often observed by citizen scientists is T. grandiflorum. The official flag of Ontario's French-speaking minority, the Franco-Ontarians, incorporates a stylized trillium representing Ontario and a fleur-de-lis representing French Canadian heritage. As a particularly conspicuous forest flower, T. grandiflorum was designated the provincial floral emblem of Ontario in 1937 (Floral Emblem Act), and as the state wild flower of Ohio in 1987.
Clover, sorrel, nettle and thistle are common, and grow wild in Greater Manchester. Common heather (Calluna vulgaris) dominates the uplands, such as Saddleworth Moor, which lies within the South Pennines and Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park. The Rochdale Canal harbours floating water-plantain (Luronium natams), a nationally endangered aquatic plant. In 2002, Plantlife International launched its County Flowers campaign, asking members of the public to nominate and vote for a wild flower emblem for their county.
Felicia fruticosa subsp. brevipedunculata, from the Limpopo Province of South Africa is up to tall and has longer leaves of long and wide and nearly seated pale violet to white flower heads. Felicia fruticosa subsp. fruticosa, from the Western Cape province of South Africa, is no more than 1 m and has shorter leaves of long and wide with flower heads on largely leafless, about long stems. It is sometimes called bosastertjie in Afrikaans. In the wild, flower occurs from August till October.
Heaven in a Wild Flower is a 1985 compilation album featuring tracks by English singer/songwriter Nick Drake, taken from Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter and Pink Moon. The title of the compilation is taken from the lines of William Blake poem Auguries of Innocence. The album does not feature any of Drake's posthumously released material and because of the availability of more comprehensive compilations, such as Way to Blue and Fruit Tree, this collection is largely out of print.
Following his initial find, Stokoe tried to locate further specimens, but failed to do so until he spotted it in one of the buckets of a female wild flower vendor on Adderley Street Flower Market, Cape Town, in 1925. After much persuasion, the lady guided him to a small stand of this species. At that time, these were already aged plants. In 1959 all plants in this location had died, and as no other population was known, the species was presumed extinct.
He cursed the nine planets to suffer from leprosy and were sent down to earth in Vellurukku Vanam, the white wild flower jungle - the modern time Suryanar Kovil. The planets prayed to Shiva to relieve them off the curse. Shiva appeared to them and said that the place belonged to them and they would have to grace the devotees worshipping them from the place. This is the only temple where there are separate shrines for each of the planet deities.....
Jacobaea vulgaris, syn. Senecio jacobaea, is a very common wild flower in the family Asteraceae that is native to northern Eurasia, usually in dry, open places, and has also been widely distributed as a weed elsewhere. An area near the A12 beside the section from Blake Hall Road to Selsdon Road was preserved in 2008 by local residents as a Wild-Flower Meadow with a year-round display of wild and naturalised plants, shrubs and trees; starting in spring with oxlip (P. elatoir), cowslip (Primula veris), primrose (P. vulgaris), and meadow buttercup (Ranunculus acris), followed by many species including the grass vetchling (Lathyrus nissolia). The meadow is listed as one of the main Primula species meadows in Greater London.
The New Hope-Lambertville Winter Festival takes place in Solebury yearly. Solebury contains a portion of the Washington Crossing Historic Park across the river from the larger Washington Crossing State Park. The Bucks County Audubon Society at Honey Hollow maintains a nature preserve with six miles of hiking trails that are open to the public dawn to dusk every day for hiking and birdwatching. Bowman’s Hill Wild Flower Preserve contains over 700 of Pennsylvania’s 2,000 native plant species grow naturally on 134 acres.
Bardag Lake Eastbrookend Country Park is an 84-hectare park and Local Nature Reserve in Dagenham in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, in England. Together with the neighbouring Chase Nature Reserve it is also designated a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. The site was derelict land, which was turned into a park by large-scale earth-moving to create an undulating landscape with wild flower grassland mixes and over 50,000 small trees. It was opened in 1995.
Elsa Bakalar (1919 - 29 January 2010) was an English-born American garden designer, best known for her 1994 book A Garden of One's Own. Bakalar's work has been featured in Horticulture Magazine, The Boston Globe, and Newsday, and she has worked with the Harvard University Arnold Arboretum and the New England Wild Flower Society. She was born in England and came to the United States after World War Two. She was employed by the British Information Services ("BIS") and wrote occasional articles for Gourmet Magazine.
Its wild flower meadows, brooks and man-made troughs with wetland plants and insects form the Kempton Park Reservoirs SSSI. The operational Kempton Reservoirs and roads passing into Hampton form the rest of the town's eastern border, a buffer further south. Sunbury here has five or six high rise tower blocks: 3 residential including the newly converted chubb building ; and two hotels. Similarly it has industrial/business parks clustered generally in the acute angles between the M3/A316 (Country Way) and the A308 (Staines Road West).
The Crested Butte Wild Flower Festival is a week-long event that takes place annually in July in Crested Butte, Colorado, USA. New England Wild Flower Society Guide to Growing and Propagating Wildflowers of the United States and Canada Some varieties are short-lived so are better treated as biennials. The British National Collection of Aquilegias was held by Mrs Carrie Thomas at Killay near Swansea. Some time during or before 2014 the collection started to succumb to Aquilegia Downy Mildew Peronospora aquilegiicola which was at the time an emerging disease to which the plants had no resistance. By 2018 the entire collection had been lost.
The station is having the front entrance renovated, bridge refurbished, station buildings repainted and decorated and replanted and landscaped wild flower areas. One in three mouthfuls of the food we eat is dependent on pollination and honey bees are dying out across the world. The overgrown woods and gardens will therefore be planted up with flowers and shrubs that encourage birds, bees and butterflies. In 2011 2,500 plants were planted, and a further 300 lavender plants and five cherry trees were planted near the station in 2012.

Nimmervoll authored, co-authored or edited a number of books, including Friday on my mind: a year by year account of popular music in the Australian charts in 2003. It was reviewed by fellow author Chris Spencer in 2004: Nimmervoll was a contributor of biographies on the website Allmusic (AMG), mainly covering Australian performers and bands as diverse as country music legend Slim Dusty and post-grunge band Grinspoon. He co-wrote "Red-Headed Wild Flower" with Beeb Birtles for the Little River Band album Sleeper Catcher.
Trustco has incorporated green initiatives into its service offerings with online banking capabilities, as well as the marketing and promotions materials. In the spring of 2009, Trustco Bank sent out postcards on actual “seed paper,” encouraging deposits from new customers as well as put the wild-flower-growing mailer in the ground. Additionally, Trustco Bank created promotions centered on several local supermarkets and offered recyclable/reusable shopping totes and $50 gift cards, to keep the money and other natural resources, in the local community.
In the United Kingdom, the organisation Plantlife International instituted the "County Flowers scheme" in 2002, for which members of the public nominated and voted for a wild flower emblem for their county. The aim was to spread awareness of the heritage of native species and about the need for conservation, as some of these species are endangered. For example, Somerset has adopted the Cheddar Pink (Dianthus gratianopolitanus), London the Rosebay Willowherb (Chamerion angustifolium) and Denbighshire/Sir Ddinbych in Wales the rare Limestone Woundwort (Stachys alpina).
On occasion the members of the Warrington rowing club can be seen using the Mersey. Rare breed longhorn Cattle are grazed on the site during the summer months and they play a vital role in keeping the grass short, which in turn encourages ground nesting birds such as skylark. A wild flower meadow has been created on one of the fields. The site attracts flocks of fieldfares and redwings, which feed on the berries of some of the oldest hawthorn hedges in the Cheshire area.
The area lies on alluvial deposits from the River Thames producing calcareous clayey soils of the Thames series. Chimney Meadows is a national nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest which forms part of the floodplain of the River Thames. It includes wild flower meadows with cowslip, yellow rattle, common knapweed, oxeye daisy and pepper- saxifrage which supports insects, wildfowl and waders. It is the largest nature reserve managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust, who took it over in 2003.

In 2014 Carna Conservation Initiative was formed by the owners with local business Ardnamurchan Marine Centre to enhance and protect the islands wildlife and habitats, improve the islands economic and environmental sustainability and benefit the local community and economy. The initiative includes a range of conservation projects including restoring ancient wild flower meadows, recreating native woodlands, establishing colonies of native dark honeybees, removing invasive non-native species and taking part in the monitoring of Loch Sunart Marine Protected Area (MPA) which surrounds the island.
Her serious interest in British flora developed after moving to Copyhold near Cuckfield in 1893. The botanist G. Claridge Druce became a friend and frequent visitor with whom Davy explored the countryside around her home, contributing numerous finds to records of Sussex flora. In 1899 she joined the Wild Flower Society which increased her interest and contacts with other plant enthusiasts. She lived in Pyrford from 1909 before moving to West Byfleet in 1922 where she kept "open house" for botanists of different ages and levels of experience.
Scottish botanist and early plant collector Francis Masson was the first person on record who collected the Catherina-wheel pincushion, but only stating it was from the Cape region (Prom. bonae Spei), without providing a locality or year. When Robert Harold Compton described L. catherinae in 1933, the location where it was collected was still uncertain for it was obtained at the Ceres wild flower show in 1931. The specimen collected in 1897 by Alfred Arthur Bodkin on the Krakadouw Pass in the Cedarberg apparently was unknown to Compton.
The village has its own community-owned shop and post office, two pubs,The Lamb Inn and The Rose and Crown, a Primary school, a church, St Swithuns with a font of Caen stone, and minor football and cricket teams. It is linked by cycle/foot path to nearby Crediton through the Millennium Green - a wild flower meadow with herb garden, example of cob walling, and a large pond. An annual pumpkin growing competition is held there in late September. The actors Luke and Harry Treadaway were raised in the village.

Common heather (Calluna vulgaris) dominates the uplands, such as Saddleworth Moor, which lies within the South Pennines and Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park. The Rochdale Canal harbours Floating Water-plantain (Luronium), an endangered aquatic plant. In 2002, Plantlife International launched its County Flowers campaign, asking members of the public to nominate and vote for a wild flower emblem for their county. Common cottongrass (Eriophorum angustifolium), a plant with fluffy white plumes native to wet hollows on high moors, was announced as the county flower of Greater Manchester.
In the first decade of the century, Britton began to devote energy to the conservation of wildflowers. A gift of $3000 by Olivia Stokes and Caroline Phelps Stokes to the NYBG spurred the creation of the Wild Flower Preservation Society of America. The first meeting was held on April 23, 1902; Frederick Vernon Coville was elected president, Charles Louis Pollard was elected secretary, and Britton was elected to the Board of Managers. Other members of the board included Charles Edwin Bessey, Liberty Hyde Bailey, William Trelease, Charles Frederick Millspaugh, and Alice Eastwood.

It grows to about 1 meter in height and width, and blooms in spring or early summer with pale yellow and white flowers in delicate whorls.
The bodies were not found in one place, suggesting that one of the children might have panicked and tried to flee after the first victim went over the side. Captain Anton Smit said the traumatic discovery was made by two Port Elizabeth teenagers who had gone for a walk during a picnic near the Van Stadens Wild Flower Reserve. Bryan van Vuuren, 17, and his friend Andre Trauernicht, 18, first discovered the body of the boy. The teens alerted Thornhill police station and showed them where they discovered the body.
Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, most of the temples have a five-tiered rajagopuram, the gateway tower and a granite wall enclosing all the shrines of the temple. The temples are a part of the popular Navagraham pilgrimage in Tamil Nadu. It is believed that the planetary deities were cursed by Brahma to dwell in Vellurukku Vanam, the white wild flower jungle and were blessed by Shiva to make it their abode to devotees. The temples have six daily rituals at various times from 5:30 a.m.
Due to unchecked deforestation and climate change, the population of the wild flower is said to be depleting every year and has been tagged as an endangered flower. Every year, the village hosts a week long festival called the Shirui Lily week to showcase the rich Tangkhul traditional cuisines and attires, flower show, painting competition and entertainment programmes as an attempt to spread awareness to safeguard the rare flower. In 2017, the Government of Manipur declared Shirui Lily Festival as a state festival which is now being celebrated every year with much fanfare.

The Park has a mosaic of habitats, hosting a wide range of species. Habitats include sea-cliffs, downs, ancient meadows, hedgerows, woodland, and dry-stone walls – each with their characteristic plants and animals. These include 33 species of breeding butterfly, over 250 species of bird recorded, 500 wildflowers, 500 moths and thousands of other invertebrates. The underlying rock is limestone so the majority of the park is calcareous grassland, probably created about 1000 years ago by clearing of oak forest, hosting a range of wild flower species and associated animals such as butterflies.
Fenor Bog lies near the village of Fenor, and lies inside the Copper Coast Geopark. It is an alkaline fen, the only one of this kind still extant in the southeast of Ireland, with the bog located in a depression which is overlooked by Ballyscanlon Hill. There is a wet woodland on the site, with willow and alder trees, alongside areas of sedge, and flat, wet wild flower meadows. 200 species of mammals, birds, insects, and plants have been recorded within the site, including snipe, cuckoos, stonechats, warblers, reed buntings and barn owls.
It needed no embellishment. Our “garden” would consist merely of the existing idioms of the hill: the spring, walls, gates, wildflower meadows, stone piles, rusting farm implements. The views and clouds could do the rest.’ The garden’s few ‘features’ are site-specific, hill-top ones: an ‘infinity vegetable patch’; clipped box balls ‘rolling’ down through a wild flower meadow; part of the Anglo-Welsh poet Edward Thomas's ‘The Lofty Sky’ painted onto the wall of a barn facing a take-off point for hang gliders and paragliders. Some commentators have declared the garden ‘non-existent’.
More recently, the botanist and ecologist Ghillean Prance, president of the society, is someone who first built up a knowledge of flowering plants through his membership of the society and his wild flower diary. Edith Dent (1863-1948) edited the magazine, bi-monthly at that time, which she started in 1896. After her death in 1948, her daughter Hilda Sophia Annesley Dent (1903-1956) became president and editor.Miss Hilda Dent, The Times, 12 October 1956 She died in 1956 and her sister Violet Vere Charlotte Schwerdt (1900-1996) took over.
Funding was not approved for the project and the land was eventually used for the Don Valley Parkway project. In conjunction with the formation of the conservation authorities, volunteer organizations sprang up to assist the conservation authorities in their missions. In Toronto, the Don Valley Conservation Association was established in 1946 by Roy Cadwell, Rand Freeland and Charles Sauriol to protect the lands of the Don River valley from a proposed development. The Association went on to other activities, including tree plantings, wild flower and tree preservation and advocacy.
A local woodland wild flower is the Bath Asparagus, also known as the Spiked Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum pyrenaicum). The flowers appear in June after the leaves die; the leaves resemble bluebell leaves but are a softer green and not as glossy. The flowering spike is up to one metre high. At the unopened stage the flowers used to be gathered in small quantities as a fresh vegetable by local people; it was also occasionally sold in local markets, but picking the flowers today is not encouraged as wild asparagus is becoming rare.
In all, seven Flower Patch books were published, over 32 years. Her writing has been described as "humorous, elegant and beautifully observed, revealing a genuine love and concern for the natural world". A keen environmentalist, she wrote of the virtues of gardening without artificial chemicals and the value of natural fertilisers long before they became fashionable, and decried the taking of wild flower bulbs. She also published novels, advice books, children's stories and non-fiction on many topics including gardening, cooking, and needlework techniques, some of which have been republished in recent years.
His Pocket Guide to Wild Flowers (with David McClintock,1956) had pictures grouped by colour for easier identification. His Fontana Wild Flower Guide (1957) showed which plants might be found in different counties. He was heavily involved with nature conservation organisations including the Council for Nature, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and the Fauna and Flora Preservation Society (now Fauna and Flora International) where he was Honorary Secretary. He also served on the councils of the RSPB and the British Trust for Ornithology, and founded the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Naturalists' Trust.
In 1966 the entire estate was bought by the State of New Jersey to form a State Botanical Garden whose settings include a Lilac Garden, Magnolia Walk, the Wild Flower Garden, the Crab Apple Vista, an allée of 166 trees extending almost a half-mile, and the Perennial Garden. The entire section now comprises slightly over 4,000 acres (16 km²) of parkland. The Winter Garden included New Jersey's largest Jeffery pine (Pinus jeffreyi). Its east side features a weeping beech beside a century-old upright beech, as well as a Japanese umbrella pine.
Viljoen was elected to the Legislative Council (Upper House) of the Cape Parliament in 1903, for the South Western Circle. For the year he was on the council, he worked primarily on healing the wounds between the English and Afrikaner ethnic groups after the Anglo-Boer War. In 1904 he was elected to the House of Assembly (Lower House) of the Cape Parliament, for the Caledon district. In this capacity, he worked on conservation (banning the sale of certain species of wild flower, and cooperating on the founding of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden).
Crossland initially became interested in botany in 1880, whilst helping one of his daughters with a Sunday school wild flower project. He joined the Halifax Scientific Society to pursue his new-found enthusiasm, and subsequently the Yorkshire Naturalists' Union. In 1888, at a YNU fungus foray, Crossland met George Edward Massee who encouraged him to take an interest in fungi. As a result, he developed an expertise in mycology, with a particular interest in the discomycetes, making extensive local collections, often in the company of Henry Thomas Soppitt and fellow mycologist and bryologist James Needham.
The Wild Flower Preservation Society of America was organized in 1902, using funds from a gift of $3000 from Olivia Stokes and Caroline Phelps Stokes to the New York Botanical Garden. The first meeting was held on April 23, 1902; Frederick Vernon Coville was elected president, Charles Louis Pollard was elected secretary, and Elizabeth Gertrude Britton was elected to the Board of Managers. Other members of the board included Charles Edwin Bessey, Liberty Hyde Bailey, William Trelease, Charles Frederick Millspaugh, and Alice Eastwood. The Society established numerous local chapters.
Lee Memorial Park is a historic park and national historic district located at Petersburg, Virginia. The district includes two contributing buildings, three contributing sites, and two contributing structures. They are the park superintendent's house, the bathhouse, Willcox Lake reservoir, the Civil War earthworks, the park's system of roadways, paths and trails, the park's general topography and the Lee Park Wild Flower and Bird Sanctuary created by the Works Progress Administration between 1935 and 1940. As part of the W.P.A. project, Petersburg artist Bessie Niemeyer Marshall painted 238 watercolors of Lee Park herbarium specimens.
This plant was added to the White Garden and named 'White Cloud'. From a planting of Penstemon 'Evelyn', which is a selection of Penstemon barbatus, a specimen was named 'Sissinghurst Pink', although Lord does not consider it to be distinct from 'Evelyn'. In the late 1980s, Pamela Schwerdt and Sibylle Kreutzberger found a specimen of Phlox stolonifera with a remarkably rich purple colour in a florist's shop near the Chelsea Flower Show. They planted it in the Top Courtyard and named it 'Violet Vere' after Schwerdt's mother, who had been President of the Wild Flower Society and was celebrating her ninetieth birthday.
As the house and estate fell into ruin, the surrounding lands and resultant naturally developed wood were bought at auction in 2007 by Coed Cadw. The site is located a few miles away from Wentwood Forest, which is the largest ancient woodland site in Wales. Since taking ownership, Coed Cadw have since planted an additional 36,000 broadleaf trees. The long term plan is to develop a mosaic of habitats, from grasslands through wild flower meadows to an arboretum, which will be a combination of the original Victorian planting, local heritage fruit trees, plus new broadleaf varieties.
Despite a significant promotional effort by Chrysalis, the album sold poorly but gained notice for a metal-tinged cover of Public Enemy's "She Watch Channel Zero?!". Despite their popularity as a live act, Follow for Now were unable to produce a follow-up album and broke up in 1994. David Ryan Harris became musical director for soul singer Dionne Farris and contributed to her successful 1995 album Wild Seed – Wild Flower. Harris signed with Sony Records as a solo artist in 1997 and has released some records under his own name while collaborating with many other artists in a variety of genres.
In 1940, a memorial plaque in honor of Elizabeth Britton was installed in the new Wild Flower Garden of the New York Botanical Garden. A gift of the New York Bird and Tree Club, it is mounted on a ten-ton boulder of Bronx schist, and its text reads, "Let those who find pleasure in this garden remember Elizabeth Gertrude Knight Britton, lover of wildflowers and ardent advocate of their protection". The garden is now known as the Native Plant Garden, and the boulder as Britton Rock. Today, the Elizabeth Gertrude Knight Britton archive is held by the NYBG Mertz Library.
After a short period out of the limelight, Harris began working as a producer and featured guitarist with Dionne Farris, a former vocalist from hip-hop group Arrested Development. Harris’ guitar work can be heard throughout Farris’ 1995 album Wild Seed, Wild Flower. Harris worked with Farris until he launched his solo career in 1997. He reunited with Brendan O'Brien and was signed to Columbia Records, where the two would produce Harris’ solo debut. While the album was praised by critics, Harris’ range of musical influences made the album difficult to sell and he soon moved on to his next project.
Mexican cinema continued to produce works of superb quality and began to explore other genres such as comedy, romance and musical. In 1943, the film Wild Flower, brought together a team comprising the filmmaker Emilio Fernández, the photographer Gabriel Figueroa, the actor Pedro Armendariz and actress Dolores del Río. The films María Candelaria (1943) and The Pearl (1947), were considered pivotal works by Fernández and his team, and gave Mexican cinema enormous prestige, with their works being shown worldwide in major film festivals. María Candelaria was awarded in 1946 with the Golden Palm in the Cannes Film Festival.
This is a locally important habitat, hence its management is subject to a Local Biodiversity Action Plan. (LBAP). Another interesting habitat within this area is a semi-flooded wild flower meadow (nicknamed the wet triangle by the rangers.) The rest of the canopy is dominated by a mixture of broad-leaf trees including oak, birch, larch, horse chestnut and hazel. The woodland fringe and the wet triangle are frequented by butterflies, dragonflies, dippers, herons, kingfisher and otters. The wet triangle is a small (1/2ha approx.) isolated area found within this woodland with its own completely individual character.
Farris reached out to Milton Davis and David Harris and began a collaboration. A demo sent to Sony Music was first reviewed by Bobby Colomby, then by Randy Jackson (who became known as a judge on American Idol). Jackson signed Farris to a deal at Columbia Records. Her debut album, Wild Seed – Wild Flower (1994), featured the 1995 single "I Know", which reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1996. In the UK Singles Chart, "I Know" peaked (after a re-release) at No. 41 in May 1995.
In spring, the wild flower meadow is at its best, in summer, sit by the riverbank and watch the heron, swallows, kingfisher and other wildlife. A Community Woodland has been established and the site is open access. The gravel bed of the river was an important source of income for the millers, for through the estate they had sole right to the extraction of the gravel here, which was sold for various farm and horticultural purposes. The meadows are particularly rich in pignut (Conopodium majus), a relative of parsley, which formed a breaktime snack for children in former times.
Clayfield Copse is a local nature reserve on the northern edge of the suburb of Caversham in Reading, UK. The site is in size and is a natural open space consisting of fields, wild flower meadow and native woodlands adjoining the Oxfordshire countryside. Some of the woodland is being actively managed as hazel coppice, and traditional dead hedging defines some of the ancient woodland areas. The site is the only outcrop of London Clay north of the River Thames in Reading and makes up the southern tip of the Chiltern Hills. The nature reserve is under the management of the Reading Borough Council.
The Spedding family, who still own the house, have enlarged the house several times, with the last major changes occurring in the 1960s, when extensive renovation work was carried out, and in the 1980s, when the ground floor and grounds were opened to the public. The grounds now include a bee garden, a wild flower meadow, a "poetry walk", squirrel island and adventure playgrounds. The Spedding family had strong links to a number of poets, including Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Robert Southey, Edward FitzGerald and Thomas Carlyle. In celebration of these poetic links, an annual Poetry competition is now held.
Pike studied at Enfield Grammar School until 1893, where he became friends with local commercial photographer and ornithologist Reginald Badham Lodge, who specialised in bird photography. Pike accompanied Lodge while he worked, taking his first photograph of a wild flower at the age of 13, in the autumn of 1890. In 1895 the two invented a bird-activated trip-wire releases, which effectively allowed birds to take their own pictures. Pike developed a profound knowledge of photographic techniques and went on to publish a series of 25 handbooks on ornithological photography and cinematography, starting with In Birdland with Field Glass and Camera (1900).
The reserve also supports several species of dragonfly, and a variety of butterflies, various other insects and invertebrates, and many species of wild flower, orchid, and particularly aquatic plants. Purchased in 1984 as a potential habitat for marsh harriers and bitterns, the reserve is now managed mostly for its fen plant communities and the invertebrates which feed off them. Water levels are managed by the use of a sluice gate. A small number of highland cattle summer graze on the fen to improve habitat quality and to assist with the removal of scrub from the fen.

Knee bends, deep squats and leg extensions are a regular occurrence in Assyrian dance.Anca Giurchescu, Sunni Bloland; Romanian Traditional Dance; Wild Flower Press; Mill Valley, California; 1995 The connections include, hand-to-hand, hand to shoulder, and hand to hip, with hand-to-hand being the most popular. The hand-to-hand type has three connections; The "W", the "V" and the "T". The "W" arm hold is the most common where the arms are raised into the "W" position (or, at least, it appears to look like the letter W). The "T" dance is where hands are placed on other participants's shoulders.
For Gimson, architecture and the crafts were vitally interdependent. He describes how, as part of his training under Gimson, he was encouraged to draw a different wild flower every day from nature, noting its essential characteristics and adapting it to a formal pattern suitable for modelled plasterwork, wood-carving or needlework. Jewson soon became an invaluable member of the group, and a pupil, friend and close companion of Gimson in his later years. In 1911 he married Ernest Barnsley’s daughter, Mary (1889–1966), and converted for himself a group of cottages at Bachelor's Court in Sapperton.
Kleinman talents are not limited to music and directing, he is an exceptional artist and illustrator. His wife Judy, is also very gifted: an actress, fashion designer, organic garden designer and gardener. She has brought back wild flower meadows at their home with the resulting increase of associated fauna. His Sister Judith Kleinman, is a professional double bass player and teaches the Alexander technique at the Royal Academy of Music (along side her husband and fellow bass player Peter Buckoake), the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is a co-director of the London Centre for Alexander Technique.
Alpensia has six slopes for skiing and snowboarding, with runs up to long, for beginners and advanced skiers, and an area reserved for snowboarders. While the resort is open year-round, the off-season turns the bottom of the slopes into a wild flower garden estimating 100,000-square meters. When the ski and snowboarding season opens, all runs are serviced by chairlifts and are named: Alpha (beginner), Bravo (beginner/intermediate), Charlie, Delta, Echo and Foxtrot catering for intermediate ability. All slopes are closed between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm each day for piste-maintenance.
The raised bogs of the Long Rhön - the Red Moor (Rotes Moor) and the Black Moor (Schwarzes Moor) are floristically important links between the northern and Alpine raised bogs. Here, for example, can be found sundews, crowberry and cottongrass. Growing amongst the rocks of the volcanic mountains are rare species such as Cheddar pink, sweet william catchfly, oblong woodsia and fir clubmoss. There are no naturally occurring coniferous forests in the Rhön, but notable species of wild flower such as the lady's slipper orchid, creeping lady's tresses and burning-bush are found in the forests of mixed pine.
When the winter rain falls, the Goegap Nature Reserve, home to the Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden, with outcrops of granite, is covered in spring flowers like irises and orchids. The streets lead off from a central little koppie (hill) which now shows off Namaqualand’s strange flora, such as the almost leafless Quiver tree whose branches were used by San people to hold their arrows. This area is famed for the incredible transformation which occurs every spring, when the near- lifeless scrubland explodes into colour from thousands of flowers hidden in the dry dusty earth, brought to life by winter rains.
Japan Pictorial, Volume 17, 1994 (Japan Graphic) In the beginning, Persson made traditional Hagi ware as tradition dictated but he gradually began experimenting with painting his pottery and by time, this became his trademark. He has become especially known for his painted ceramic plates, mainly with wild flower motives, which he himself refers to as "e-Hagi" (絵萩, "painted Hagi (ware)"). In 2002, he was awarded a "Distinguished Cultural Services Award" (文化功労賞, bunka kōrōshō) by Hagi city. The Japan Times has described him as "one of the most popular artists of Hagi ware" while the Yamaguchi Shimbun remarked he has many (domestic) admirers.
After a more than worthy career in Hollywood, Dolores returned to Mexico, where she managed to maintain and even raise the prestige that she enjoyed in the American film industry, thanks to a series of films made especially for her, by her eternal admirer, the filmmaker Emilio Fernández, where he stripped away the stony image acquired in Hollywood and highlighted her indigenous features. Films like Wild Flower and María Candelaria(1943), spread the image of Mexico around the world, and Dolores del Río became a national symbol, after being, for many years, a symbol of "the Mexican" abroad. One of the faces that captivated the audiences was Pedro Armendariz.
Swamp pink from the Garden in the Woods The Native Plant Trust, founded in 1900 as the Society for the Protection of Native Plants, and long known as the New England Wild Flower Society, is the nation's first plant conservation organization. The society is dedicated to the preservation of native plants and operates Garden in the Woods (a native plant botanical garden) at its headquarters in Framingham, Massachusetts. It also offers courses on topics of conservation and horticulture of native plants, manages a "conservation corps" of volunteers throughout New England, operates several native plant sanctuaries, and offers nursery-propagated native plants for sale at its two nurseries.
The Grade II listed entrance lodge The Hall and the associated entrance lodge both became Grade II listed buildings in January 1963. The Hall was for a time converted into a hotel and restaurant in 1979 by executive chef, Derek Stenson and his partner John Neville, the former sous chef at the Dorchester Hotel. Now privately owned, the gardens are often opened to the public under the National Gardens Scheme, with entrance and tea and cake available for a fee donated to charity. Set on a hilltop, the garden offers extensive views and features lawns, broadwalks, pergolas, sculptures, water garden, wild flower meadow, heather garden, gravel garden and stumpery.
Amongst the numerous species of wild flower in the Hohes Holz are the Anemones, liverwort, woodruff, Primula, lily of the valley, Gentian, hyacinths and several orchids (lady orchid, heath spotted orchid and bird's-nest orchid). The fauna of the region includes the buzzard, red kite, goshawk, sparrowhawk and grey heron as well as fox, weasel, marten, red squirrel and badger. The Hohes Holz is also a recreation area and "green lung" of great importance for the region about 30 km, located as it is 30 km west of the city of Magdeburg. In addition to a nature trail several signposted cycle ways and footpaths have been established in recent years.
The song, translated "Like a Wild Flower", was first performed on February 28, 2006, when Gackt appeared at the graduation of the Maiko High School in Hyōgo Prefecture, because of a promise he gave to a student. He received a letter by student who was worried that his school's department would shut down due to lack of student interest. Their division managed to survive and Gackt wrote the song and performed it at that year's graduation ceremony in honor of their perseverance. Since then he continued to make surprise appearances in high school graduation ceremonies, where encourage students to follow their dreams, and performs the song.
Franklyn Hugh Perring PhD, OBE (1 August 1927 – 11 October 2003) was a British naturalist, regarded as "one of the most influential botanists and nature conservationists of the 20th century". Perring authored or co-edited over a dozen floras, conservation articles and wild flower guides, but is best known as joint editor of the Atlas of the British Flora. This was a landmark publication, produced for the Botanical Society of the British Isles (BSBI) in 1962, and which laid the groundwork for future national and local biological recording schemes across Britain. Perring was head of the national Biological Records Centre based at Monks Wood from 1964 to 1978.
In 1954 the Wild Flower Magazine reported that Booth had recorded 584 species in County Wexford, 579 in County Carlow, and 584 in County Kilkenny. Booth's interests extended to fauna also, and she is considered an early environmentalist, recording surveys of butterflies, dragonflies, birds, and some Crustacea for the Natural History Museum, the National Herbarium, and An Foras Forbartha. Her most significant work was the book The Flora of County Carlow, which was published in 1979, assisted by Maura Scannell. Following in the tradition of Robert Lloyd Praeger as an inventory of plants from a county, this book was the first Irish county flora to be written by a woman.
"I Know" is a 1995 song recorded by American R&B; singer Dionne Farris. Written by Milton Davis and William DuVall, it was the first single from Farris' debut album Wild Seed – Wild Flower and was released in March 1995. The song was a hit in her native United States, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, and it also spent 10 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40, staying 28 weeks on the chart. Outside the US, "I Know" reached number one in Canada on the week of April 10, 1995, and was the 19th most successful single of the year.
These two things led to her, at the age of 23, founding the Wild Flower Society which was initially an educational club for a few local children. In 1893 she married Robert Wilkinson Dent at a "large and fashionable wedding".Marriage of Miss Annesley at Clifford Chambers, Leamington Spa Courier and Warwickshire Standard 5 August 1893; p5 Their life together started in Tunbridge Wells but in 1903 they moved to Flass, a substantial country house near Shap which had belonged to previous generations of the Dent family. There they were prominent members of the local gentry and took on a number of leadership roles in the area.
A tower at the viewpoint bears a toposcope on which the direction and distance to thirty African localities are inscribed on slabs of black granite. A site office stands nearby with a small gallery, built in 2012 to house pictures of the flowers of Nyanga by local artist Mary Clark and a display on the history of the development of the viewpoint. The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town, South Africa, has contributed plants for a protea and wild flower garden created in a rocky kopje adjoining the gallery. The National Trust of Zimbabwe manages the World's View site, which covers an area of about 70 hectares.
Included among these are the crape myrtle, Italian cypress, southern magnolia, live oak in the warmer parts of the state, and even hardy palm trees in the warmer central and eastern parts of the state. USDA plant hardiness zones in the state range from Zones 5and6 in the extreme western part of the state to Zone7 in the central part, and Zone8 around the southern part of the coast, the bay area, and parts of metropolitan Baltimore. Invasive plant species, such as kudzu, tree of heaven, multiflora rose, and Japanese stiltgrass, stifle growth of endemic plant life. Maryland's state flower, the black-eyed susan, grows in abundance in wild flower groups throughout the state.

In addition to playing live with The Cult on their tour, he can also be seen in the video for the "Wild Flower" single. After the Electric tour finished, Kid Chaos moved to New York City and then Hollywood, quickly putting together a new band, The Four Horsemen, who were a more blues and boogie inspired group than the hard rock/metal of ZMATLR and The Cult. Now known as Haggis, he switched to guitar and wrote most of the material. The Four Horsemen released a four track self-titled EP in 1989 before releasing the first full-length album Nobody Said It Was Easy in 1991 on Rick Rubin's Def American label.
Cherkley Court By 2002 Cherkley Court had fallen into disrepair but over seven years the Beaverbrook Foundation restored the property, with the intention of opening it to the public in the same way as the great houses owned by the National Trust. On 1 April 2007 it opened its of formal gardens and walks to paying visitors. As well as grand terraces, garden pavilions, a stone grotto and an Italianate garden there are wild flower meadows, a walnut grove and woodland walks. However, in December 2009 it was announced that the house would no longer be open to the public, from 2010, the Foundation having decided that it could not be profitable.

The temple is one of the few historic temples dedicated to Sun god and is also the only temple in Tamil Nadu which has shrines for all the planetary deities. The present masonry structure was built during the reign of Kulottunga Choladeva (1060-1118 CE) in the 11th century with later additions from the Vijayanagar period. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple has a five-tiered rajagopuram, the gateway tower and a granite wall enclosing all the shrines of the temple. It is believed that the planetary deities were cursed by Brahma to dwell in Vellurukku Vanam, the white wild flower jungle and were blessed by Shiva to make it their abode to devotees.
While growing up in Portmore, Merchant encountered the musical influences and mentorship from artists such as Busy Signal, Bounty Killer, Konshens, Mad- Cobra, Mavado, Frisco-kid, Singer J and Indica. In 2004, he was encouraged by Indica to enter the B-mobile star search talent competition in Portmore at Ken's Wild flower Lounge and was placed first runner up to roots reggae phenom Gyptian, known worldwide for such hits as "Hold yuh", "Nah Let Go", "Serious Times", "Mama", "Beautiful lady", and "She's My Lady". The New Canaan Nature Center () is a botanical garden, arboretum and nature preserve located at 144 Oenoke Ridge, Route 124, about north of the center of New Canaan, Connecticut. The nature center includes wet and dry meadows, two ponds, wet and dry woodlands, dense thickets, an old orchard, and a cattail marsh, as well as a greenhouse. Landscaped areas of the site include a wildflower garden (which won the 1997 Homer Lucas Landscape Award from the New England Wild Flower Society), a herb garden and a perennial border. About 90% of the plant specimens in the wildflower garden are native species, including bloodroot, columbine, mayapple, jack-in-the-pulpit, wild geranium, Solomon's plume, starflower, and trillium.
Amongst other things, 16 kilometres of track and 60 points covering an area of 156,000 square metres were relaid, and two new fans of storage sidings (totalling 5.7 km) controlled by a shunting signal box were built. To enable the line to Lauf to cross the line to Altdorf without a track crossing being required, a bridge crossing was built. In all ten bridges had to be altered or replaced and 640 m of sound-damping walls were erected. The only examples in Europe of the wild flower, Astragalus arenarius, a plant related to the milk vetch, along with other groups of plants was transferred to a temporary nursery and later to areas around the railway.
It was Perry who gave Baynes her first professional commissions. Among the Perry Colour Books to which Baynes contributed were Question Mark, Wild Flower Rhymes and a novelization of the libretto of Mozart's opera The Magic Flute. From 1942 until the end of the war, the Baynes sisters worked in the Admiralty Hydrographic Department in Bath, making maps and marine charts for the Royal Navy (an experience that stood Baynes in good stead in later life when she created maps of C. S. Lewis's Narnia and J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth). A letter that Baynes wrote to a friend at this time included a sketch that he passed on to Frank Whittaker, an employee of Country Life.
Wild pansy (Viola tricolor), also known as Johnny Jump up (though this name is also applied to similar species such as the yellow pansy), heartsease, heart's ease, heart's delight, tickle-my-fancy, Jack-jump-up-and-kiss-me, come-and- cuddle-me, three faces in a hood, or love-in-idleness, is a common European wild flower, growing as an annual or short-lived perennial. It has been introduced into North America, where it has spread. It is the progenitor of the cultivated pansy, and is therefore sometimes called wild pansy; before the cultivated pansies were developed, "pansy" was an alternative name for the wild form. It can produce up to 50 seeds at a time.
At club level English played with Ballinkillen. His father, Jim English, was a three-time All-Ireland medallist and an All-Ireland-winning-captain with Wexford. Having won the competition on numerous occasions, Pat was deemed best place to judge the local cats.
Under the guidance of Mr. Wong and Earl Chinna Smith, Gyptian honed his sound, winning the 2004 Star Search talent competition at Kens Wild Flower Lounge in Portmore, earning him a spot at Sting 2004, dubbed the 'greatest one night reggae show on earth'. The singer earned his nickname from his habit of tying a shirt around his head and twisting his chin hair like an Egyptian pharaoh. In 2005, he scored two hits, "Is There A Place" on the Seasons Riddim and "Serious Times". Nominated for Best New Entertainer at the 2006 International Reggae and World Music Awards, the singer has been dominating the Jamaician charts with hits including "Is There a Place", "Beautiful Lady", and the chart-topping ballad, "Mama, Don't Cry".
She was born on 17 September 1910 in Kensington to Dorothy Duncan née Weston and Commander John Alexander Duncan CB RN. The family, including her younger sister Frances, lived in London when the girls were little but moved to their estate at Parkhill near Arbroath when Ursula was nine. Soon after that she started to take an interest in plants, accompanying her father on expeditions to study flowers, and joining the Wild Flower Society. She had a governess for a time, but studied independently too, getting a distinction in classics when she took her School Certificate exams at 15. Later, she followed this up with independent study leading to external degrees in classics from the University of London: a BA in 1952 and MA in 1956.
A quick intermission followed, then other Cult hits were played (varying by venue): "Sun King", "Dirty Little Rock Star", "Electric Ocean", "Illuminated". Then followed the favorites "Fire Woman", "Lil Devil", "Wild Flower", and lastly "Love Removal Machine". In the evening of 10 October 2009 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the band performed a second encore with original Cult bassist Jamie Stewart and drummer Mark Brzezicki, who played drums with the band during the Love album recording sessions in July and August 1985. The band sold Love Live USB flash drives for each show during the tour. The Cult entered 2010 continuing their Love Live Tour and announcing more dates in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan.
Carna contains a wide variety of habitats that support a large range of native wildlife species including otters, sea and golden eagles, orchids, harbour seals, Arctic terns, foxes, red deer, water shrews, woodpeckers, cuckoos, herons, curlews and kestrels. The island's habitats include wild flower meadows, native Atlantic Oakwood and Scots Pine woodlands, hill grazing, heather moorland and wetland habitats which is a diverse selection for a small island and helps support a wide biodiversity. Scotland hosts the only populations of European wildcat (sub- species Felis sylvestris grampia) in the British Isles, with numbers estimated at between 400 and 2,000 animals. In 2013 it was announced that the island of Càrna is to provide a sanctuary and breeding station in order to protect the threatened species.
It is native to a large area of Europe, stretching from the Pyrenees in the west, through France and Germany to Poland in the north, Italy, northern Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, and European Turkey. It has been introduced and is widely naturalised elsewhere. Although it is often thought of as a British native wild flower, or to have been brought to the British Isles by the Romans, it probably was introduced around the early sixteenth century and is currently not a protected species in the UK. It was first recorded as naturalised in the UK in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire in 1770. Most other Galanthus species are from the eastern Mediterranean, but several are found in southern Russia, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
In 1987–95 Tsur served as chairperson of the National Religious Sector of the Jerusalem District Parents’ Committee and was appointed honorary director of the Jerusalem Council for Children and Youth. In 1996 Tsur began her 12-year tenure as head of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel in Jerusalem, during which she formed the Sustainable Jerusalem organization, a coalition of 60 organizations and committees around the city. She initiated a project to assess the true land reserves in Jerusalem which led to the cancellation of the Safdi Plan for construction in West Jerusalem. In addition she gained approval for the first urban nature park in Israel, Gazelle Valley, the construction of the Rail-road Park and the protection of the wild flower preservation at Neve Yaakov.

Pamela Schwerdt was born on 5 April 1931 in Surrey, the granddaughter of Edith Vere Dent, who founded the Wild Flower Society in 1886, and the daughter of Violet Schwerdt MBE, who was subsequently editor of the society newsletter following on from her mother and sister. From 1936 the family lived in Newfoundland then Nova Scotia, returning to England in 1945, where Pam attended Lady Eleanor Holles School in Hampton, Middlesex. In 1951, aged 18, she joined Waterperry School of Horticulture for Ladies, at Waterperry Gardens in Oxfordshire. She was attracted by the fact that the clothes list included "two pairs of gumboots and a mackintosh" rather than the "cap and gown" required at Wye College, and this reflected the practical nature of the training offered by the school's founder, Beatrix Havergal.
The decline of specimens of the plant was mitigated when it received protection under the Endangered Species Act in 1980, at which time the known population was a mere 3,700 plants. However, due to a very successful awareness program and an effort to reroute trails away from the plant's habitat along with enclosures for the main population, the plant has since then recovered to well over 14,000 plants and was delisted in August 2002. USFWS Delisting Report dated 8/2009 Additional efforts included public education, biological research, seed collection and transplant efforts. The awareness program and repopulation efforts were successful in a large part due to a unique partnership between the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Appalachian Mountain Club, the U.S. Forest Service, and the New England Wild Flower Society.
Adwar Mousa's dance songs "Narineh" and "Wye Wye Minakh", which were written for Sargon Gabriel, still remain widely covered and played in today's Assyrian weddings and jubilant parties. They are in the rhythm of bagiyeh and sheikhani, respectively, thus making them popular choices for dancing.Anca Giurchescu, Sunni Bloland; Romanian Traditional Dance; Wild Flower Press; Mill Valley, California; 1995 His other folk dance songs, such as "Hoy Jano", "Hatkha O Atkha", "Kewat Ya Shimshi" and "Barowen", are also immensely covered in Assyrian parties, which have gained popularity since the early 2010s, despite the fact that they were composed in the early 1990s. At over 90,000 hits, "Loosh Ani Jooleh Sodaneh", written by Mousa and sung by Ashur Bet Sargis, is one of the most-viewed Assyrian songs on YouTube.

Yet "wildflower" meadows of a few mixed species are sold in seed packets. The term implies that the plant probably is neither a hybrid nor a selected cultivar that is in any way different from the way it appears in the wild as a native plant, even if it is growing where it would not naturally.
Lt Col John Alfred Codrington (28 October 1898 – 25 April 1991) was a career soldier with a life-long interest in plants and flowers. He was born in London, the son of Lieutenant General Sir Alfred Codrington (1854–1945) and Adela Harriet née Portal (1859–1935). As a boy aged 6–7 he painted four sets of flowers, nineteen paintings in all. The interest never left him and, while serving, he would write long letters to Wild Flower Magazine. Educated at Harrow, Christ Church, Oxford and Strasbourg University; he served with the French Red Cross in France, 1915-1916; then attended Royal Military College, Sandhurst in 1916-1917; and was commissioned into the Coldstream Guards, his father's regiment, in 1917. He served on the Western Front with 3 Bn, Coldstream Guards, 1917-1918;and was on garrison duty in Cologne, Germany 1918-1919.
He wrote: > From the wild-flower dusks of mountain twilights, out of steamy southern > mud-flats and dusty midland prairies, off the sun-silver steel of cinder- > blown railroad tracks and out of the chill damps of prison cells - from > churches and saloons, cradles and gravesides come the songs of America that > must be sung. He recorded the album Logan English Sings the Woody Guthrie Songbag for 20th Century Fox Records in 1964. Released three years before Guthrie's death, and described as "an unselfish effort to boost the awareness of the iconic folk legend", it contained versions of thirteen of his songs, and led to English's identification as one of Guthrie's major interpreters. However, English's unwillingness to write his own songs, coupled with a chronic drinking problem, also made it increasingly difficult for him to maintain a successful performing or recording career.
In the book Language on Vacation: An Olio of Orthographical Oddities, Dmitri Borgmann tries to find the longest such word. The longest one he found was "dermatoglyphics" at 15 letters. He coins several longer hypothetical words, such as "thumbscrew-japingly" (18 letters, defined as "as if mocking a thumbscrew") and, with the "uttermost limit in the way of verbal creativeness", "pubvexingfjord-schmaltzy" (23 letters, defined as "as if in the manner of the extreme sentimentalism generated in some individuals by the sight of a majestic fjord, which sentimentalism is annoying to the clientele of an English inn"). In the book Making the Alphabet Dance, Ross Eckler reports the word "subdermatoglyphic" (17 letters) can be found in Lowell Goldmith's article Chaos: To See a World in a Grain of Sand and a Heaven in a Wild Flower.
The artwork seems to complete itself by the presence of a human being. When someone stands inside the arch, the shape and the repetitions of the form suggest contours of a moving field surrounding the individual's body, and create the impression of an infinite vibration inwards and/or outwards. There is a pattern of self-similarity in the way the form is exponentially repeated, which the artists says was "intended to trigger the viewer’s own inner experience of 'the whole being contained within all the parts', the recognition of themselves as individual expressions of the universal, intimately interconnected and one with their total environment". This could be compared to what William Blake describes in Auguries of Innocence: “To see a World in a Grain of Sand, And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand, And Eternity in an hour”.
