Thomson was a Scottish poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in England and hoped to make his fortune at Court.

Aldrovandi manages to snatch a yes from the Magician Silvan to challenge Gaspar but at the very best the powers vanish as the letter from the Marquise to bring her pistachio ice cream arrived late and therefore the Marquise died. Gaspar in a panic tries to withdraw from the race but Aldrovandi convinces him not to give up and so his first number (guessing the data of a license blindfolded) went well with the help of his brother-in-law Alberigo who communicates the data to him via a radio . After Silvan's number, which makes a girl levitate in the air, Gaspar tries the number of the box with the knives and invites Aldrovandi to participate, but the performance turns out to be a flop and after a fight, Silvan makes them friends again.

The delegation hoped to procure a Boeing 314, giving a capacity for 20 passengers and of freight. One intermediate landing, planned at Botwood in Newfoundland, was needed before reaching New York. The trip was planned to take 26 and a half hours, comparing to the 13 days it took the delegation to reach Washington, D.C. Preparatory meetings with the Scandinavian ambassadors started on 26 January, followed by two months of negotiations with American authorities, manufacturers, airlines and airports, to insure rights to all aspects of the operations, including training of crew, insurance, agreements with the United States Postal Service, choice of route, weather services and schedules. The neutral American authorities were interested in establishing a route to the then-neutral Scandinavian countries, and the negotiations went well, with all necessary permissions and contracts gained.

The division performed well, although the 6th DWR was later disbanded due to its heavy casualties (and replaced by the 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment), but the defence of Rauray against two SS panzer divisions had impressed Barker's superiors. The season after saw big changes at the club, Bower & Heathcote moved to Pinxton FC and Holmes left football altogether so Rainworth MW reserve team manager Ady Smith bought his championship winning reserve squad to the Welfare Ground for the new season. Smith bought with him Ian Cotton from Sherwood Colliery to run the reserve team and the pair set about reviving the club's fortunes on the pitch. The season went well with first team finishing in an improved 7th place in the league after Smith left for Shirebrook Town midway through the season with players Rob Camm & Danny Bacon taking over. The real stars though were Cotton’s reserve team who won the Reserve Premier Division title and the Reserve League Cup but lost in extra time to Thoresby CW reserves in the President’s Cup final after extra time to deny them the treble, however Thoresby were later found to have played ineligible players in the game so the cup was handed to Blidworth by the league committee.

He married Sheila Mabelle Clegg at Bournemouth on 7 June 1945; Mason was a committed pacifist, which went well with his wife's Quaker faith, although he did not become a Quaker himself. Mason and his wife were early supporters of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. From 1946 to 1953 Mason worked with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and from 1953 to 1961 with the British Rubber Producers' Research Association. He received his PhD in 1960 with a thesis on the visco-elasticity of strained rubber, and in 1962 moved to Australia to study keratin on a post-doctoral fellowship with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Sydney, becoming principal research officer. Mason was appointed foundation professor of physics at Macquarie University in 1966 and gave the university's first undergraduate lecture in 1967. In the late 1970s he designed and taught a postgraduate course in biophysics, one of his research areas. He served two terms on the university council (1974-77, 1980-86). He was also involved in politics, opposing the Vietnam War and standing as a Senate candidate for the Australian Reform Movement in 1967.
