Kurt Vonnegut, in his late short story "The Big Space Fuck", posits a future America so heavily polluted – "Everything had turned to shit and beer cans", in his words – that the Great Lakes have been infested with a species of massive, man-eating ambulatory lampreys.

The 2014 docudrama made for French television, Le fabuleux destin d’Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun, directed by Arnaud Xainte, is available in English as The Fabulous Life of Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun. In the episode "The Portrait" from the BBC series Let Them Eat Cake (1999), written by Peter Learmouth and starring Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, Madame Vigée Le Brun (Maggie Steed) paints a portrait of the Comtesse de Vache (Jennifer Saunders) weeping over a dead canary. Vigée Le Brun is one of only three characters in Joel Gross's Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh (premiered in 2007), a fictionalized historical drama about a love triangle set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. Vigée Le Brun's portrait of Marie Antoinette is featured on the cover of the 2010 album Nobody's Daughter by Hole.

The original Angel of Grief in Rome Other view Henry Lathrop monument, profile view, at Stanford University Angel of Grief or the Weeping Angel is an 1894 sculpture by William Wetmore Story for the grave of his wife Emelyn Story at the Protestant Cemetery in Rome. Its full title bestowed by the creator was The Angel of Grief Weeping Over the Dismantled Altar of Life. This was Story's last major work prior to his death, a year after his wife. The statue's creation was documented in an 1896 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine: according to this account, his wife's death so devastated Story that he lost interest in sculpture, but was inspired to create the monument by his children, who recommended it as a means of memorializing the woman.

Mongez established herself as a Neoclassical history painter from the very beginning, and disregarded criticisms related to her femininity. Over the course of her career, she possessed two smaller studios in addition to the one she maintained at the Mint, up until her death. From engravings to framed drawings to portraits to busts and much more, Mongez’s personal inventory of her possessions within her studios alone serves as proof of her devotion to Davidian painting. Mongez’ principle works include her first major painting, Astyanax Snatched from His Mother (1802), Alexander Weeping Over the Death of the Wife of Darius I (1804), Theseus and Pirithous (1806), Orpheus in Hell (1808), The Death of Adonis (1810), Perseus and Andromeda (1812), Mars and Venus (1814), Saint Martin Sharing his Cloak with a Beggar (1819), and her last Salon exhibit The Seven Against Thebes (1827).

Chapel of Dolours 2016 The Blessed Virgin weeping over her divine Son by Petz Located in an elevated position on the north side of the monastery, alongside the footpath which leads up to the calvary, can be found the tiny Chapel of Dolours, or Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. Built in 1842 from the designs of Pugin, this had formerly stood in Cademan Wood, Whitwick, which formed part of Ambrose de Lisle's Grace Dieu estate. Soon after being built, the chapel became referred to locally as "The Temple" and the part of Cademan Wood in which it stood became known as Temple Wood. De Lisle had the chapel built after being inspired by similar examples of wayside shrines in Bavaria and it was designed to form part of a devotional walk on his land, which comprised fourteen Stations of the Cross and a Calvary along the route.

In 1807 he was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1808 he entered works for the Prix de Rome, but his energies were diverted when his elder brother, Jean-Francois Alaux (1783–1858), asked him to help with a large "neorama" (a type of Panorama) he was working on. Alaux eventually won the major Prix de Rome in 1815 with a work entitled "Briseis weeping over the body of Patroclus", a scene inspired by the Iliad of Homer.Grunchec, P. (1985). He subsequently became a pensionnaire at the French Academy in Rome from 1816 to 1820 and went on to become its director.

The reaction of the audience in the reenactment of the Battle of Karbala’ episode is significant for the strengthening of distinct Shia identity and the weeping over the killing of Husayn ibn Ali and his follower is one of these reactions. There is close relation between the lamentation and weeping. According to the narration, Shia Imams had emphasized to weep for them, so it had transmitted to future generation. According to Shia tradition, the weeping and the flow of tears provides condolences to Imam Husayn's mother and his family, as the living relatives (mostly women and children) were not allowed to weep or lament over their martyred family which involved Imam Husayn's, his family (including his two sons, a six-month-old baby martyred by an arrow/spear to his neck and another 18 year who took a spear to his heart) and his companions.
