Tiradentes Quartered, Pedro Américo (1893) In the Holy Roman Empire emperor Charles V's 1532 Constitutio Criminalis Carolina specifies how every dismemberment (quartering) should ideally occur:German original "Zu der Viertheylung: Durch seinen gantzen Leib zu vier stücken zu schnitten und zerhawen, und also zum todt gestrafft werden soll, und sollen solche viertheyl auff gemeyne vier wegstrassen offentlich gehangen und gesteckt werden" Thus, the imperially approved way to dismember the convict within the Holy Roman Empire was by means of cutting, rather than dismemberment through ripping the individual apart. In paragraph 124 of the same code, beheading prior to quartering is mentioned as allowable when extenuating circumstances are present, whereas aggravating circumstances may allow pinching/ripping the criminal with glowing pincers, prior to quartering. The fate of Wilhelm von Grumbach in 1567, a maverick knight in the Holy Roman Empire who was fond of making his own private wars and was thus condemned for treason, is also worthy of note. Gout-ridden, he was carried to the execution site in a chair and bound fast to a table.

With those rights, the bishop included a clause that if the castle was rebuilt, the lands would return to him. The castle must have been rebuilt sometime after the extinction of the Toggenburgs, because in 1503 there was once again a vogt at Friedau. In 1649 the bishop sold the castle to the Vier Dörfer (four villages: Zizers, Igis, Trimmis and Untervaz).

"Five-star superior" rating at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski in Munich, Germany Hotel luxury is often denoted by stars. Other classifiers, such as the AAA Five Diamond Award, use diamonds instead of stars to express hotel ratings levels. Hotels are assessed in traditional systems and rest heavily on the facilities provided. Some consider this disadvantageous to smaller hotels whose quality of accommodation could fall into one class but the lack of an item such as an elevator would prevent it from reaching a higher categorization.

The German language dub of the film, in which I. Y. Yunioshi mispronounces the word Rauschift was sampled on the album's first track.

These claims were heavily disputed by various German missionaries, and Detzner recanted most of his claims in 1932. In his work, he gives a critical glance to social behaviour in society and media, often satirising relationships and families. Nuhr has also been known to caricature the typical German know-it-all. A typical example is his famous saying that is frequently quoted in forums and Newsgroups due to its very provocative nature: "Wenn man keine Ahnung hat: Einfach mal Fresse halten", which translates to, "If you have no idea: just keep your mouth shut for once." His performance “Ich bin’s Nuhr” was visited by approximately half a million people. After presenting a humorous review of the year's events in 2004, he has been broadcast on ZDF with a similar TV show at the end of every following year. Nuhr presented the German comedy award for the first time on 24 October 2008 and did so over the course of the following five years. Since 3 October 2009 his four-part comedy series has been shown live on ZDF on four Tuesday evenings. Written in 1933, it was rejected by the publisher, but published posthumously in 1972. The first novel in the cycle's chronology, Sint Sebastiaan, derived its name from a painting of the saint by Alonso Cano Vestdijk admired in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. According to Kastner, the game is not well recorded in the literature, but appears to go back to a French ancestor, Commerce, that was first mentioned in 1718 in the Academie des Jeux. The game was included in the list of games prohibited in Austria-Hungary by the Ministry of Justice under the names Trente-un and Feuer – but whilst the former name can also refer to the aforementioned Siebzehn und vier ancestor, the name Feuer clearly refers to this game, because in the most common variation a hand of three Aces (Feuer) has special significance (see below).

The story is probably a recontextualisation of a much older dragon myth, put into a new historical context in late medieval folklore. The "dragon" toponymy in this place has been associated with the older dragon narrative in the Nibelung cycle in 19th-century scholarship. Her one leading role in his films, Irmgard Epp in the 1971 Händler der vier Jahreszeiten (The Merchant of Four Seasons), won her the Deutscher Filmpreis award. She was a member of Fassbinder's complicated professional and personal entourage, and became one of his confidantes, but the relationship also involved abusive behaviour by Fassbinder towards her; after his death, she said he had been physically abusive. In the mid-1970s, Hermann broke with Fassbinder and moved to Berlin, where her career developed. She played in numerous film and television productions with directors such as Tankred Dorst, Werner Herzog, Hans W. Geißendörfer and Christoph Schlingensief.
There are a number of references to Höhne's work on the SS by other historians who have written works on Nazi Germany. More recently, Adrian Weale's work, Army of Evil: A History of the SS frequently cites Höhne's The Order of the Death's Head: The Story of Hitler's SS, although challenging some of the assertions found therein. Another work from Höhne is Krieg im Dunkeln (1985), which examines the centuries-old relationship between Russian and German intelligence. After his retirement, Heinz Höhne worked on a history of the Third Reich, the first volume of which, Gebt mir vier Jahre Zeit, appeared in 1996.

"Muss i denn" is about a man – originally a journeyman embarking to his traditional "Wanderjahr" journey – who has to leave the woman he loves and vows to remain faithful until he is back to marry her. It first appeared on page sixteen of Friedrich Silcher's collection of popular songs, Volkslieder, gesammelt und für vier Männerstimmen gesetzt, Opus 8, Nr. 12 (folk songs, collected and set for four male voices). The origin of the song, however, is obscure and the original text was not recorded. Silcher mentioned to Ludwig Uhland that the melody was "an old melody from Württemberg".
The first episode debuted on July 5, 2009, two days before the release of "Launch of the Screaming Narwhal". The second and third episodes followed on August 6 and September 16, respectively; the penultimate episode was released on October 22. For the final installment, released on December 4, Fietzek recruited Smudo of the German hip hop band Die Fantastischen Vier to do a musical number. Emerson-Johnson described the series as "absolutely fantastic", and said that "it really seems like these games appeal to people in a way that spurs huge amounts of excellent creative energy".
MTV Unplugged is part of the MTV Unplugged series and the second live album of German hip hop group Die Fantastischen Vier. The group were the second German- speaking artists to make an appearance on MTV Unplugged, after Herbert Grönemeyer in 1995. Contrary to the wishes of the producers, the concert was not recorded in MTV studios in London, but in the Balver Höhle (Balver cave), a cave in the Sauerland used mainly for Balver Märchenwochen. The album peaked at #6 in the German charts as wells as at #7 and #18 in Austria and Switzerland.

The first use of Doctor Paracelsus in a medical publication was in 1536, as the author of the Grosse Wundartznei. The name is usually interpreted as either a latinization of Hohenheim (based on celsus "high, tall") or as the claim of "surpassing Celsus".

During Belgium's tournament appearances in the 1980s and the early 1990s, Rik De Saedeleer crowned himself the nation's most famous football commentator with his emotional and humorous reports. Initially the matches were transmitted mainly on public television channels: the former BRTN (now VRT) in Dutch, and the RTBF in French. Since 1994, commercial channels such as vtm and its sister channel Kanaal 2, and VIER in Flanders, have purchased broadcasting rights. The Euro 2016 round-of-16 match against Hungary was the most-watched programme in Belgian television history, with an audience of over four million viewers out of 11.3 million Belgian citizens.
After crossing the river Isar, the avenue circles the Maximilianeum, home of a gifted students´ foundation and the state parliament. The western portion of Maximilianstraße is known for its designer shops, luxury boutiques, jewellery stores, and one of Munich's foremost five-star hotels, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten (Four Seasons). The Prinzregentenstraße runs parallel to Maximilianstraße and begins at Prinz-Carl-Palais, in the northeastern part of the Old Town. The avenue was constructed from 1891 onwards as a prime address for the middle-class during the reign of Luitpold, Prince Regent of Bavaria and is named Prinzregentenstraße in his honour.
On 27 April 2005 (Freedom Day in South Africa) photographer Mikhael Subotzky exhibited his panoramic photographs of the inside of the prison at Pollsmoor. It was titled "'Die Vier Hoeke'" (The Four Corners) where the exhibition space echoed that which was being exhibited. Subotzky also commented on the meaning of this as well, where the viewers were part of the bureaucracy of getting into and eventually being locked into the maximum security prison. This trend (of having art events inside prisons) was continued in November 2005 when a play was staged at another South African prison.
The German blazon reads: Schild im Göpelschnitt geteilt. Vorne in Silber ein stilisierter schwarzer Tempel, hinten in Grün eine silberne Kirche, unten in Gold über drei roten Rauten vier rote Kugeln, jeweils balkenweise. The municipality's arms might in English heraldic language be described thus: Per pall reversed, dexter argent a temple sable, sinister vert a church of the first, and in base Or four roundels in fess under which three lozenges in fess, all gules. The partition into three fields is a reference to the centres of Forst, Molzig and Pfaffenhausen, which are all parts of the municipality of Forst (Eifel).
Alban Berg's Five Orchestral Songs after Postcards by Peter Altenberg (German: Fünf Orchesterlieder nach Ansichtskarten von Peter Altenberg), Op. 4, were composed in 1911 and 1912 for medium voice, or mezzo-soprano. They are considered a true song cycle, unlike his previous two groups of songs, the Sieben frühe Lieder of 1908 and the Vier Gesänge, Op. 2, of 1910, and they are his first work for orchestra. The postcard texts by contemporary Viennese poet Altenberg recount the stormy but beautiful condition of the soul and the palpable sensations of love and longing. The highly imaginative music responds with many displaced ostinati and a conflicted, lyrical passion.
In addition, she also starred in movies (Helden in Tirol, Gone – eine tödliche Leidenschaft, Wo ist Fred?, The Perlmutterfarbe, 3faltig) and television series (Tatort, Polizeiruf 110 and Sinan Toprak ist der Unbestechliche) and became widely known for her distinctive voice, in particular through her role of the farmer's wife Julie Zirbner in the ORF production Vier Frauen und ein Todesfall. In 2008 Neuhauser underwent a vocal cord surgery due to deposits and a Reinke's edema on the vocal cords. The pitch of her voice has thus increased a little and she has since then not been addressed anymore on the phone as "Mr. Neuhauser".

Sandy Mölling, former singer of the pop band No Angels, shot the video for her single "Unnatural Blonde" in the U-Bahn station Deutsche Oper. Kate Ryan, Overground, Böhse Onkelz, Xavier Naidoo, Die Fantastischen Vier, and the DJ duo Blank & Jones have all used the U-Bahn and its stations for their videos as well. "Linie 1", a musical performed by Berlin's Grips-Theater, is set completely in stations and trains of the Berlin U-Bahn; a movie version has also been produced. In 2002, the BVG cooperated with design students in a project to create underwear with an U-Bahn theme, which, in English, they named "Underwear".
Pieter van der Plas painted portraits of individuals as well as group portraits for the local guilds in Brussels.Pieter van der Plas, Vier mannen geknield (leden van het Brusselse zoutvisverkopersambacht?) The style of his paintings is similar to that of his younger contemporary painters Gonzales Coques and Gillis van Tilborch. Two of his portrait paintings show donors distributing bread and clothes to orphans while being looked upon by the Virgin and Child with St. Anne. One of these is signed jointly by Pieter van der Plas and the younger Brussels portrait painter Pieter Meert (The Museum of the Centre for Social Welfare of Brussels).
His other operas include Der Philosoph, Op. 57 (The Philosopher, Landestheater Detmold 1990), Die Judenbuche, Op. 65 (The Jew's Beech, Opernhaus Dortmund 1992), based on a novel by Annette von Droste- Hülshoff, and Two Cells in Sevilla, Op. 106 on a libretto by his son Marec Béla Steffens (Greenbriar Consortium Houston and Round Top Theatre Forum 2016, on CD: Navona Records 2018). Steffens has composed numerous works based on paintings (more than 100 single paintings), e.g., Vier Aquarelle nach Paul Klee, Op. 63 (Four Watercolors after Paul Klee). "Mixed concordant working process" (Steffens) is based on the composer's own eight-note scale, with scale-related sound patterns.

In 1999, she appeared in the music video to the single "Michi Beck in Hell" by Die Fantastischen Vier.
Three years later, the group's 7th album 4:99 was released on their own label, with 4 singles from the album following. After the #2 hit "MfG", three singles were released at the same time, a first in German music business. Each one can be associated with one of the rappers: "Le Smou" (The Smou; Smudo), "Michi Beck in Hell" (Michi Beck) and "Buenos Dias Messias" (Good day, Messiah; Thomas D). In late September 2004, Die Fantastischen Vier released the album Viel, the following tour being their most successful and best-attended to date. In 2005, Fanta 4's first greatest hits album was published.
In the 17th century the "In den witte Haen" brewery was on the westernmost part of the Kromboomssloot. Large storage cellars were built under the brewery for water that was supplied by boat. The brewery was demolished around 1880 and replaced by houses. During renovation of one of these houses in the early 1970s, these storage cellars were found and were completely excavated.Rechtboomssloot vier en zes ‘aan de buitenkant’ en 'aan de binnenkant', OpNieuw The "De Haan & Sleutels" beer brewery was located on the Rechtboomssloot until it moved in 1890, after which PJA Chrispijn purchased the complex and established a winery, distillery and liquor distillery in it.

Since 2006 it has been carrying the name "Dortmund Airport 21", in reference to the fact that Dortmund's utility company, DSW21, is its major shareholder. The airport's master plan consists of the following elements: Increasing normal operating hours by one hour at night (to 23:00h), with an additional one-hour window in the morning and at night for exceptions, lengthening the runway to , expanding the terminal and its infrastructure, improving the motorway connections and directly connecting the airport to mass transit.
In addition to the head-to-head tours, there were the annual professional tournaments called Championship tournaments, where the world's top professional male players played. These tournaments held with a certain tradition and longevity. According to Ellsworth Vines, "the Wembley tournament in London..., the U.S. professional championship, and to some extent the tournament in Paris were the major professional tournaments prior to 1968."Tennis Myth and Method (1978), Ellsworth Vines and Gene Vier (), page 52 The oldest of these three Professional Majors, or "Pro Slams", was the U.S. Pro Tennis Championships, played at a variety of different venues and on a variety of different surfaces, between 1927 and 1999.
The relationships between the individual cantons of the confederation were not without tensions, though. A first clash between Bern and the Vier Waldstätten over the Raron conflict (Bern supported the barons of Raron, while the forest cantons sided with the Sieben Zenden) in the upper Valais was barely avoided. The local noble barons of Raron established themselves as the leading family in the upper Valais in the late 14th century and competed with the bishop of Sion for the control of the valley. When emperor Sigismund designated them counts in 1413 and ordered the bishop to hand over his territories to the von Raron, a revolt broke out in 1414.
This record was not noted by the indie rock scene until 2005, when Stephen McBean's other band, Black Mountain, released their debut record (also on Jagjaguwar). Stephen McBean supposedly wrote the material when Jerk With a Bomb (who turned into the previously mentioned band) were on tour, and hastily recorded it in three weeks once back in Vancouver. The tracks have a strong sexual imagery, bearing names like Sweet '69 and I (Fuck) Mountains. McBean claimed the Pink Mountaintops would drop the sexual sound for their next LP. The track 'Can You Do That Dance' was used in the UK TV advertisement for Beck's Vier lager (May 2007).

Later on she signed a contract with Four Music (founded by Die Fantastischen Vier) and began working on her debut album Mamani, which was released in June 2002 and debuted at number eight on the German Albums Chart. Inspired by African roots, the album was primarily produced by husband Max Herre. In total Mamani spawned six singles, including the lead single "Sag's Mir", the socially critical track "Im Ghetto von Soweto" (featuring her uncle South African flugelhorn legend Hugh Masekela), and "Kinderlied", a song dedicated to her oldest son Isaiah. In 2003 Denalane went on a solo tour and finished collaborations with Youssou N'Dour, ASD, and Till Brönner.
The nave and transept are Romanesque (12th century), while the choir is primary Gothic, begun in 1242 and completed in 1325. Originally, the borders of the diocese arguably were those of the Civitas Turnacensium, as mentioned in the "Notice des Gaules". The prescriptions of councils and the interest of the Church both favoured such borders, and they were retained throughout the Middle Ages. The diocese then further extended along the left bank of the river Schelde, from the river Scarpe to the North Sea, with the exception of the Vier-Ambachten (Hulst, Axel, Bouchaute, and Assenede), which are said to have always belonged to the Diocese of Utrecht.

Aggiss studied with Holger until the latter's death in 2001, and later said, 'Meeting her was like coming home.' In 1992, Holger revived four dances for Aggiss from her repertoire: Die Forelle (The Trout) (1923), Le Martyre de San Sebastien (1923), Mechaniches Ballett (1926) and Golem (1937). These were first performed, as Vier Tanze, at the Manchester Festival of Expressionism on 29 February 1992.

An 1894 source reports a mill with screw pump on the west, with the water draining into the canal which at the time also served as the outlet for the Stoomgemaal Vier Noorder Koggen, the steam- powered mill that drains the water from Aartswoud. The Kolk was recently again breached to restore wetland habitat. Meadow birds in the area include the Northern lapwing, the Black-tailed godwit, the Eurasian oystercatcher, the Great crested grebe, the Common redshank, the Common shelduck, the Black- headed gull, and the Pied avocet. The Westfriese Omringdijk runs along the Kolk, and the bicycle path between Aartswoud and Lambertschaag goes through it; there is an observation tower.
In an engraving by Sebastian Furck, published in 1630 in Daniel Meisner and Eberhard Kieser's Thesaurus Philopoliticus, appears a stone coffin similar to those unearthed at the Roman graveyard in Bad Kreuznach near today's Bosenheimerstraße. An inscription on the engraving reads “Ist alda mit einem cörper und zwei gläsern darin ein unbekannts materia auch vier schüßlin ausgegraben worden” (“Was dug up there with a body and two glasses therein an unknown material also four dishes”). What became of this coffin is unknown. The next major find was not made until 1921. Phillip Stieb IV discovered on his field “im Bauernstück”, likely while he was doing clearing work, two stone chests.
Public life came to a halt on that day, as shops closed and train service on the railway line was suspended during the funeral. Condolences arrived from places as far as France and Great Britain. An uncle of a pupil who died in the rail accident suffered a heart attack due to the hot weather and later died. In 1972, a stone pillar containing the inscription "Komme Geist von den vier Winden herbei und hauche diese Toten an, damit sie lebendig werden" (Ezekiel 37.9, translates as "Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live") was placed next to the graves.
Under his real name he also published fiction, such as Der Schwimmer (1901) and, again as Sagitta, he published a pederastic novel of the Berlin boy-bars, Der Puppenjunge (literally "The Boy-Doll", but published in English as The Hustler) (1926). In a note to the American publisher of this book, Christopher Isherwood said, "It gives a picture of the Berlin sexual underworld early in this century which I know, from my own experience, to be authentic." Richard Strauss's well-known songs from his Vier Lieder (Op. 27), a wedding gift to his wife in 1894, include settings to music of two of Mackay's poems: "Morgen!" and "Heimliche Aufforderung".

The municipality's arms might in English heraldic language be described thus: Gules an Imperial orb azure encircled Or and ensigned with a cross pattée of the same, on a chief embattled of four argent a sword of the second hilted and pommelled of the third. In 1340, Archbishops Heinrich of Mainz and Baldwin of Trier built a castle as a defence against Waldgrave Johann of Dhaun, to put the Nahe valley off limits to him. This stronghold was called the “Martinstein”.
The name Vierburgenland (Land of Four Castles) was created in 1919 by Odo Rötig, a Viennese resident in Sopron. It was derived from the name of the four vármegye of the Kingdom of Hungary (in German Komitate, 'counties') known in Hungarian as Pozsony, Moson, Sopron and Vas, or in German as Pressburg, Wieselburg, Ödenburg and Eisenburg. After the town of Pozsony/Pressburg (Bratislava) was assigned to Czechoslovakia, the number vier was dropped, but the name was kept because it was deemed to be appropriate for a region with so many old frontier castles. The "Burgenland" name was adopted by the first provincial Landtag in 1922.
They were in the midst of finishing recording of what was to be their third album titled The Rebirth, and then begin work on a talked about fourth album which was to be titled Vier, however in 2000, Wittke died in a car accident and Moritz left the band, thus eliminating the possibility of both albums being released. A self released demo titled Back from Hell was released in May 2007, consisting of only Schröder and Matthes. It was composed of potential material for their intended comeback album from the early 2000s. The band disbanded again that year as they could not find any suitable new members.
During her lifetime, her work was shown in over 20 personal exhibitions, and there have been a number of posthumous exhibitions. In addition to these, from 1936 to 1975 (apart from during World War II) her work was exhibited at the handcrafts exhibitions which took place at the Grassi Museum during the annual Leipzig Trade Fair (Leipziger Messe). The Grassi Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Leipzig (Leipzig Museum of Applied Arts) holds her work in its permanent collection. The Angermuseum Erfurt holds her work in its collection, . In 2019 it held the exhibition Vier "Bauhausmädels": Gertrud Arndt, Marianne Brandt, Margarete Heymann, Margaretha Reichardt, 23 March–16 June 2019.
As a member of record of the Genossenschaft Deutscher Bühnenangehöriger ("Guild of the German Stage"), she automatically became a member of arts groups which were strongly tied to Joseph Goebbels when the GDBA and similar organizations were forceably merged into the Reichsfilmkammer under Nazi Germany's nationalization of the film industry during the mid-1930s. In the lead-up to, and during, World War II, she then appeared in at least two films considered by historians to have been Nazi propaganda films, including: Frisians in Peril (released in 1935, re-released in 1941) and Die vier Musketiere.Giesen, Rolf. The arrival of the four sons (upon the horse Bayard) in Dordonne, after their exile in the forest. Medieval manuscript by Loyset Liédet. Historie van den Vier Heemskinderen, the Dutch translation, dated 1508 and held at the University of Munich gives the following version: Duke Aymon, King of Pierlepont, thinks that Charles, his liege Lord, has not shown him gratitude enough when he gets only Dordogne (Dordoen) with the capital of Albi for his help in many of Charles' wars. He is even angrier about the fact that his warrior-friend Hugh (Huon) de Narbonne gets nothing at all and decides to become renegade until Charlemagne gives him a suitable reward.

Besides other stories of German, French, and Russian history is Mr. Carlyle's latest Pet, a hostile criticism of the characters drawn by that historian of Frederick William I, based upon the recently published Aus vier Jahrhunderten of Karl von Weber. Wraxall's most important historical work was The Life and Times of Caroline Matilda, Queen of Denmark and Norway (1864, 3 vols. 8vo.). He claimed to have shown by original research the worthlessness of the evidence on which the queen was divorced after the Struensee affair, and published for the first time (iii.
In parallel, he also dealt with electronic music, increased his name recognition as a DJ and produced some remixes, sometimes under the pseudonym Adolf Noise. A collection of such remixes appeared in 2000 under the title Music Is Okay. With Max Goldt as spokesman he released 2001 as Adolf Noise the single "Deine Reime sind Schweinereime", a satire on battle rap tracks in German hip hop. Together with Cosmic DJ and Erobique he founded the project International Pony, from 2002 the album We Love Music and 2006 the LP Mit Dir sind wir vier. Since 2003, Koze published several Techno-Maxis at the Cologne label Kompakt under the name Monaco Schranze (a corruption of Monaco Franze and Schranz).
She may have performed briefly in 1931 with the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater or been detained in a camp after her husband had been shot. Makao, Macao or Böse Neun is a simple dice game for any number of players using a single die and a dice cup. It is a game in which the players must reach a specified score without exceeding it, in that way it resembles other dice games like Über 12 ist tot ("Over 12 is Dead") or Fünfzehn ("Fifteen") as well as the card games of Siebzehn und Vier and Black Jack. It is derived from the eponymous card game of Macao, which itself is a possible predecessor of the popular gambling game of Baccara. Like its eponymous cousin, its name comes from the city of Macao, the "Monte Carlo of the East".

Following the Cameroon surveying project, Hermann Detzner was tasked to survey the border of Australian Papua and Kaiser-Wilhelmsland and during this expedition and unbeknownst to Detzner, war was declared. In his book published in 1920, Vier Jahre unter Kannibalen ("Four Years among Cannibals") Detzner claims to have penetrated the interior of Kaiser-Wilhelmsland but these claims were disputed by various German missionaries and later recanted in 1932. On 24 September the German colony at Madang on Kaiser-Wilhelmsland (the New Guinea mainland) was occupied by the Australian forces. Shortly after all remaining German possessions were captured in the region and the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force provided occupation forces for the duration of the war.
Between 27 April -- 4 May 2016, Khebez Dawle and Leslie Clio headlined the Counter Speech Tour that visited six cities across Germany: Passau, Cologne, Münster, Freital, Wismar, and Flensburg. In specific cities, the tour featured special guest performers: Enno Bunger, Gleis 8, and Smudo (of the rap group Die Fantastischen Vier). The purpose of the tour was to work as a friendly measure to counter racism and extreme-right ideologies that had taken root in some of these cities, and specifically in Freital. The tour was sponsored by Facebook, and organised in partnership with, inter alia, Warner Music Group, the German brewer fritz- kola, the Bundesliga Foundation, and the Internet charity betterplace.org.
After his death, Duke Luitpold continued to devote all his energies to the construction of the castle, selling family estates like Possenhofen Castle to pay for the building and travelling the more than 50 kilometres from his home in the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich to supervise the progress of the work. He never actually lived in the castle but preferred to lodge at the Hotel Bachmair when he had to stay overnight. When he died in 1973 at the age of 82, he left Schloss Ringberg unfinished. In the mid- sixties, the Duke began to consider what should become of Schloss Ringberg after his death, since he had no direct heir.
The palimpsest was identified in the library at Saint Catherine's Monastery in February 1892 by Agnes Smith Lewis and her sister Margaret Dunlop Gibson, who returned with a team of scholars in 1893 that included J. The large body of operatic arias, especially those for tenor or baritone, also provides an ideal source of literature for euphoniumists. Puccini's Vissi d'Arte and Nessun Dorma are often performed on euphonium, and Germanic art songs, such as Schumann's Dichterliebe or Brahms's Vier ernste Gesänge, are also popular transcriptions, as is Rachmaninoff's Vocalise Op. 34 no. 14. In performing vocal transcriptions, some adaptation may be necessary, either because the tessitura is uncomfortably high or because the original key may present fingering or intonation problems. Despite the prevalence of vocal transcriptions for euphonium, there remains much vocal work that is rarely, if ever, performed on euphonium, including Spanish, French, and German opera arias.

August Hergenhahn in a lithograph, 1848 Like most of Europe, Nassau was engulfed in a revolutionary wave after the February Revolution in France in 1848. On 1 March a liberal group headed by the jurist August Hergenhahn gathered at the Vier Jahreszeiten Hotel in Wiesbaden to present a list of moderate liberal nationalist demands to the government. This list included civil freedoms, a German national assembly, and a new electoral law. The next day, the Neun Forderungen der Nassauer (Nine Demands of the Nassauers) were presented to Chief Minister Emil August von Dungern, who immediately approved the formation of a citizens' militia, freedom of the press, and the convocation of the lower chamber of Parliament to discuss electoral reform.

He is also known to have composed songs about the death by murder of the king Erik V of Denmark, also called Glipping, and for praising the new king Eric VI of Denmark; another famous song is Got In Vier Elementen Sich Erscheynet. Very little is known about his life, he himself being mentioned in a few pages of the 14th century Codex Manesse (414r-415r, where he is indicated as Meister Rumslant) and of the Jenaer Liederbuch.

The community of Waldbrunn is largely coëxtensive with the former parish and tithing area of Lahr, one of four that once belonged to the Amt of Ellar. The three other parishes were the tithing areas of Frickhofen, Elsoff and Niederzeuzheim (known collectively as the Vier Centen). Until 1815, the centre of Waldernbach (nowadays part of the community of Mengerskirchen) also belonged to the parish of Lahr along with the now forsaken centres of Wehnaue/Winnau, Wenigen-Reynderroytchen, Brotelbach, Brechtelbach, Gralshofen and Oberhof. Huize Ivicke, protests (2020) The major shareholder in Bever Holding is Ronnie van de Putte, a well-known speculator and real estate investor who is known as the "Slum King of the Netherlands" (Krottenkoning van Nederland), as a result of his policy of buying buildings then leaving them to decay or even demolishing them and decades later selling the land parcel for a profit. The municipality of Noordwijk issued a fine of 200,000 euros to the company for not restoring two buildings, a restaurant called De Vuurtoren and a villa called De Vier Winden. After being fined, Bever demolished both places. In Leiden, Bever had for years owned a plot of land with two buildings on it next to the central train station.
Schwimmen or Einunddreißig (in Germany also Knack, Schnauz, Wutz and Bull; in Austria as Hosen runter, Hosn obe, Hosn obi and Hosn owi; in Switzerland as Hosenabe) is a social card game for two to nine players, played with a 32-card Piquet pack, that is popular in Austria and Germany. Although it is also called Einunddreißig (Thirty-one or ), this should not be confused with a predecessor of Siebzehn und Vier (Twenty-One), also called Einunddreißig. Schwimmen is German for "swimming" which refers to the last chance that a player gets before they drop out. Variants or similar games in the United States and Great Britain go under the names of Thirty-One, Blitz and Scat, but are played with a 52-card pack.

A reviewer commented in Gramophone: In a 1949 live broadcast from the Royal Albert Hall, she sang an orchestrated version in English with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Malcolm Sargent. Hans Hotter recorded the songs in 1951 with pianist Gerald Moore, along with other songs by Brahms and the Bach cantata BWV 82: Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau recorded the songs several times, beginning in 1949 in his first recording with Deutsche Grammophon, accompanied by Hertha Klust. Anne Ozorio described it as "...another seminal moment in song history. The singer had barely turned 24 but already captured the profundity of Brahms’ meditation on death".
While the examples of perspective in Underweysung der Messung are underdeveloped and contain inaccuracies, there is a detailed discussion of polyhedra. The Four Days of Ghent (Dutch: Vier Dagen van Gent, French: Quatre Journées de Gand) refers to a battle in Ghent, the capital of Flanders, from 13 until 16 November 1789, in which the Imperial Army of the Holy Roman Empire was driven out of the city. It was a crucial event during the Brabant Revolution: the Patriots received a major boost by taking this first large city, and the authority of the Austrian Netherlands was beginning to disintegrate. Within two weeks, the Treaty of Union was drafted, that would establish the independent republic of the United Belgian States on 11 January 1790. On 4 January 1790, Flanders declared its independence from the Habsburg Monarchy by the Manifesto of the Province of Flanders.

Beethoven asked if he could hear an equale, the characteristic funeral trombone music genre of Linz, and Glöggl arranged a performance at his house. Glöggl asked him for a six-part equale, to include the unusual soprano and quart trombones that he owned. Beethoven wrote for him the Drei Equale für vier posaunen (WoO 30), which are for alto, tenor and bass trombones and do not call for the soprano or quart instruments. Glöggl's collection of musical instruments and manuscripts was acquired in 1824 by the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, and formed the basis of what may be the oldest surviving institutional musical instrument collection, the Sammlung alter Musikinstrumente, which since 1938 has been held in trust by the Viennese Kunsthistorisches Museum.
Regarding Buddhist philosophical tenets, Jigten Sumgön and his followers generally held a dismissive attitude towards their usefulness. Jigten Sumgön states in Gongchik (4.13): "The truth is veiled by all [philosophical] tenets whatsoever." In a review in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Friedrich Karl Fromme wrote that the memoirs tell nothing new about the times he lived in, but "something about the person". In 2009, he published a book on his recollections of German reunification, titled Der Weg zur Einheit (The Path to Unity). The municipality's arms might in English heraldic language be described thus: Quarterly, first and fourth chequy of nine gules and argent, second Or a baptismal font ensigned with a cross sable and third Or a charcoal kiln with fire and smoke proper. The German blazon speaks of a “narrow, white cross” separating the arms into its “quarterly” division, but this is not in evidence in any execution of the arms available on the Internet, including the one on the municipality's own website.
Some versions of the song contain a spoken introduction starting with a count-in of "eins zwei drei vier" as a parody of the band Ramones who started some songs with a quick count-in of "one two three four". The second side of Trans-Europe Express is a suite with "Trans-Europe Express" continuing through to "Metal on Metal" and "Franz Schubert" before closing with a brief reiteration of the main theme from "Europe Endless". AllMusic described the musical elements of the suite as having a haunting theme with "deadpan chanting of the title phrase" which is "slowly layered over that rhythmic base in much the same way that the earlier "Autobahn" was constructed". The song's lyrics reference the album Station to Station and meeting with musicians Iggy Pop and David Bowie.
Westfront 1918 is a German war film, set mostly in the trenches of the Western Front during World War I. It was directed in 1930 by G. W. Pabst, from a screenplay by Ladislaus Vajda based on the novel Vier von der Infanterie by Ernst Johannsen. The film shows the effect of the war on a group of infantrymen portrayed by an ensemble cast led by screen veterans Fritz Kampers and Gustav Diessl. The film bears a resemblance to its close contemporary, All Quiet on the Western Front (1930), an American production, although it has a bleaker tone, consistent with Pabst's New Objectivity work through the late 1920s. It was particularly pioneering in its early use of sound - it was Pabst's first "talkie" - in that Pabst managed to record live audio during complex tracking shots through the trenches.
Amongst the rarities acquired were the 21 volumes of Historische Beschryving der Reizen of nieuwe en volkoome Verzameling van de aller waardigste en zeldsaamste zee- en landtogten printed in 1747 by Pieter de Hondt in 's-Gravenhage. Sebastian Franck's Dat wereltboek, spiegel ende Beeltnisse des gheleelen Aertbodems, in vier boecken (te wetenim Asiam, Africam, Europam ende Americam) gealtelt ende afgedeylt, written in 1531 and published in 1562 and 1563, was sold bound with his Chronica, zytboeck en geschiet bibel van aenbegin tot MDXXXIII, written in 1534. Another rarity from the Koopmans-de Wet House library was Abraham Josias Sluysken's handwritten report on the capitulation of the Cape to the British forces under Admiral Sir George Elphinstone on 10 June 1795. This manuscript was later purchased by the Kimberley Public Library (through Morrison) with the aid of a donation by De Beers.
Chris Kraus, born 1963, worked as a screenwriter before he staged his award-winning love duel Shattered Glass (Scherbentanz) into a highly acclaimed feature film in 2002. His second work as a director Four Minutes (Vier Minuten) was one of the most successful German movie dramas in recent years, and won numerous national and international awards, reaching an audience of millions worldwide. Kraus’ third feature film, The Poll Diaries, was also celebrated by critics and the audience alike, and received over 20 prizes, among them four golden “Lolas,” three Bavarian film awards, one Bambi and the German Film Critic’s Award. This was followed by his film The Bloom of Yesterday, a winner at the Tokyo International Film Festival, at the Jewish Film Festival Moscow, of the Baden- Württembergischen Film Prize and of the Thomas-Strittmatter Prize for Best Screenplay.
Reinhild Solf's first novel appeared in 1980, published by Molden Verlag of Graz, and in 1985 as a paperback by Goldmann Verlag, by this time based in Munich in West Germany. The book, entitled "Leberwurst, Käsebrot, zwo, drei vier: Ein deutsch- deutsches Märchen" ("Liver sausage, bread 'n cheese, one two three: a German to German journey") provided a fictional account of a childhood in East Germany, a theme that will have resonated with thousands readers in the west because of the massive population shifts across the "internal frontier" that had taken place between the foundation of the two separated German states in 1949 and the erection of the Berlin Wall in 1961. The book was a commercial success and the paperback edition was reprinted in January 1987. Her second novel, "Schmetterling" ("Butterfly") appeared in 2008 after a gap of nearly three decades.

Wilhelm Furtwangler Conducts Strauss - Four Last Songs and Wagner Excerpts (Testament), liner notes. Some controversy surrounds the recording of Vier Letzte Lieder from this occasion, which survives only in a recording of variable quality set down at the receiving end of a radio broadcast. Some sources (including the most recent release, by the Testament label) allege the recording to be of the live performance itself; others allege rather that it is of the dress rehearsal earlier in the day, and state that no surviving recording of the Strauss portion of the concert survives. Whatever the outcome in that regard, the Strauss of the first half does not appear to derive from the source responsible for recording the Wagner of the second half, which exists in altogether better sound, and which is not in any doubt regarding authenticity.
The municipality's arms might in English heraldic language be described thus: Or a tower embattled of four and masoned at the corners sable on a wall of the same with a merlon at each end, in base a gateway with pointed arch of the field in which a bunch of grapes azure slipped vert. In Out of Revolution, Rosenstock- Huessy wrote: > The present time is bound (...) to attempt an organization of future society > by which the dynamite of revolution may be manipulated as persistently and > consciously as contractors use real dynamite in building tunnels or roads. During 1956 through 1958, Rosenstock-Huessy developed the principle of metanomics in his two-volume Soziologie (Sociology)--Volume I: On the Forces of Common Life (When Space Governs) and Volume II: On the Forces of History (When the Times Are Obeyed). During 1963 through 1964, he further developed this principle in Volumes I & II of, Die Sprache des Menschengeschlechts: Eine Leibhaftige Grammatik in Vier Teilen (The Speech of Mankind: A Personal Grammar in Four Parts). Whereas Soziologie is unavailable in English, Rosenstock-Huessy's Speech and Reality is an English-language introduction to that work.

The next few years were not happy ones for the band. Heiko and Marcus signed a contract with the organizer of an opera project via mutual friends, but after investing more than a half year, visual concepts and demo recordings to the project, legal disputes between shareholders and organizers prevented any performance from taking place, and ensuing frustrations led the duo to consider leaving the music business entirely. The manager of the band "Die Fantastischen Vier", Andreas "Bär" Läsker, signalled a desire to work with the band and helped them secure a recording contract with BMG (Germany) in 1994 for a fifth album. As the new contract allowed complete freedom of production, Heiko and Marcus revised music they had written for the failed opera project and added experimental and more creative approaches to the new tracks, including writing music inspired by science fiction films.
Although the plot of the story is modelled on the classic ratiocination stories of Conan Doyle, there are two separate mysteries in the book, only one of which the Holmes character is able to solve by the end. The story opens with the description of a chance encounter between the old man and the young boy Linus Steinman, who, we find out moments later, is a German-Jewish refugee staying with a local Anglican priest and his family. Because the parrot sitting on the boy's shoulder is in the habit of rattling off German numbers in no obvious order — "zwei eins sieben fünf vier sieben drei" ("two one seven five four seven three") — the old man quickly deduces the boy's reason for being in England. After we are introduced to the priest, his wife, son and two lodgers sitting at dinner, we find out that the numbers may have some significance.

In 2009 she starred in "A Celebration of Greek Music" presented at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University. She specializes in the dramatic roles of Verdi, such as Lady Macbeth, which she has recorded in Poland with the Polish National Radio Orchestra, with Maestro William Yannuzzi conducting, the roles of Abigaille (Nabucco), Elisabetta (Don Carlos), Leonora (Trovatore and Forza del destino), Puccini's Turandot and Tosca, and the Wagnerian heroines. Considered by her colleagues a Master Trainer, she has been invited by many institutions to hold master classes on vocal technique and interpretation of standard operatic repertory and to perform rarely performed song cycles such as Berlioz's "Nuits d'Ete," Wagner's "Wesendonck Lieder," Richard Strauss's "Vier letzte Lieder," Kalomiris's "Magic Herbs," etc. Karvelas, who resides on the island of Lesvos, Greece, is the Director of "Opera Lesvos" which she established in 2000, a truly pioneering venture for a Greek province.
Starting in 1987, Schaeppi produced independent theater productions with Haas, Romano and Müller, in which she also starred and for which she often wrote the Swiss dialect versions, including in 1987 the Swiss premiere of Pierre Chesnot's "Vier linke Hände" with Müller and directed by Haas, in 1991 as "Käthi - Superstar", and in 1994 the dialect version of "Die Sternstunde der Hanna Bieder", which on Gastspieltheater Zürich was resumed in 2000. In 1990, she starred in a dual role as Lisbethli and her mother the infomercial Rotsch. A great success was "Stan und Ollie in der Schweiz", starring Schaeppi as Stan and Stephanie Glaser as Ollie. Her productions staged for several years guest performances, among others at the Bernhard-Theater, on Theater am Hechtplatz, and on the studio stage of the Opernhaus Zürich, at the Atelier-Theater in Bern and at the Sommertheater Winterthur.

However, the increase of power and variety obtainable by two performers instead of one offers a legitimate inducement to composers to write original music in this form, and the opportunity has been by no means neglected, although cultivated to a less extent than might have been expected. The earliest known printed works for the pianoforte à quatre mains were published in Dessau about 1782, under the title Drey Sonaten füre Clavier als Doppelstücke fur zwey Personen mit vier Handen von C. H. Müller. However, before this, Ernst Wilhelm Wolf, the musical director at Weimar in 1761, had written one or more sonatas for two performers, which were published after his death. So far as is known these were the first compositions of their kind, although the idea of the employment of two performers (but not on one instrument) may have originated with Johann Sebastian Bach, who wrote three concertos for two harpsichords, three for three, and one for four, all with accompaniment of stringed instruments.
He was now called "the most famous of our composers". Thalberg left Paris on 18 April 1838, travelling to Vienna, the very day that Liszt gave there a charity concert for the benefit of the victims of a flood in Hungary. Thalberg invited Liszt for dinner, and the two great pianists dined together on the 28th with Prince Moritz Dietrichstein, who told Liszt, that he was delighted to have "Castor and Pollux" together in his home. During the evening, Thalberg remarked to Liszt with admirable candour : " In comparison with you, I have never enjoyed more than a succes d'estime in Vienna". They dined again the next day, after Liszt's concert on 29 April 1838. Liszt and Thalberg were both dinner guests of MetternichSee Liszt's letter to Marie d'Agoult of 30 April 1838, in: Liszt-d'Agoult: ', S.216; also see Liszt's letter to Lambert Massart of 3 June 1838, in: Vier: L'artiste - le clerc, p.45.
The rival governments - Hoffman's People's State of Bavaria seated in Bamberg, and the Bavarian Soviet Republic located in Munich - clashed militarily at Dachau on 18 April when Hoffman's 8,000 soldiers met the Soviet Republic's 30,000. The BSR forces - led by Ernst Toller - were victorious in the first battle at Dachau, but Hoffman made a deal that gave him the services of 20,000 men of the Freikorps under Lt. General Burghard von Oven. Oven and the Freikorps, along with Hoffman's loyalist elements of the German Army - called the "White Guards of Capitalism" by the communists - then took Dachau and surrounded Munich. Supporters of the BSR had, in the meantime, on 26 April, occupied the rooms of the Thule Society in the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, and arrested Countess Hella von Westarp, the society's secretary, and six others, to be held as hostages.Bracher (1970), pp.109-110 Egilhofer, panicked by Munich being surrounded by Hoffman's forces, had these seven and three other hostages executed on 30 April.
Grêmio's anthem is one of the most critically acclaimed in all of Brazilian football, other than the anthems of the clubs from Rio de Janeiro (all composed by Lamartine Babo), it is the only football anthem composed by a renowned composer, Lupicínio Rodrigues. Featuring a vivid melody in the style of a march, the anthem features the famous verses: Até a pé nós iremos / para o que der e vier / mas o certo é que nós estaremos / com o Grêmio onde o Grêmio estiver (Even on foot we will go / against all obstacles / but we sure will be / with Grêmio wherever Grêmio may be). Grêmio supporters boast that Grêmio, as the anthem hints, has never played without supporters anywhere in the world. Eurico Lara, a goalkeeper who played for the club in the 1920s and in the 1930s, is mentioned in the anthem, where he is called the immortal idol (or craque imortal, in Portuguese).

When Karl Mack von Leiberich became chief of staff of the army under Prince Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld in the Netherlands, he issued the Instruktionspunkte fur die gesamte Herren Generals, the last of 19 points setting out the roles of staff officers, dealing with offensive and defensive operations, while helping the Commander-in-chief. In 1796, Archduke Charles augmented these with his own Observationspunkte, writing of the Chief of Staff: “he is duty bound to consider all possibilities related to operations and not view himself as merely carrying out those instructions”.Osterreichische Militärische Zeitschrift (Streffleur, Vienna) 1860 III, 229-233 On 20 March 1801, Feldmarschalleutnant Duka became the world's first peacetime Generalquartiermeister at the head of the staff and the wartime role of the Chief of Staff was now focused on planning and operations to assist the Commander. He had the initial idea at a workshop of Pierre Boulez, "transcribing" Ravel's Soupir from his Trois poèmes de Mallarmé similar to Ligeti's use of voices in Lux aeterna. In particular, his arrangement of Gustav Mahler's Rückert song "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen" for voices (1985) was made known by Swedish choral conductor Eric Ericson and has been repeated by many leading choirs. Gottwald arranged works by Alban Berg (Die Nachtigall), Hector Berlioz (Sur les lagunes), Claude Debussy (Les Angelus, Des pas sur la neige), Franz Liszt (Zwei Lieder, two songs), Gustav Mahler (Drei Lieder, three songs), Giacomo Puccini, Maurice Ravel (Soupir), Richard Wagner (Zwei Studien zu "Tristan und Isolde"), Anton Webern (Vier frühe Lieder, four early songs), Hugo Wolf (four songs including Auf ein altes Bild and Der Gärtner), among others. In his arrangements for voices, he used text freely, for example a combination of a French poem by Rilke with poetry by Mallarmé in his arrangement of Debussy's prelude for piano Des pas sur la neige.
Christoph Anders, a later member of the wind band Sogenanntes Linksradikales Blasorchester and Cassiber, was in the audience and since then became a friend to the two musicians. The enthusiastic reaction of the audience to their humorous and skilled diversity lead to more concerts for the newly formed duo Goebbels/Harth. Soon they contacted Jost Gebers from FMP, whom Harth knew from his LP production with E.M.T. and arranged a live recording session at the "Flöz" in 1976 in West Berlin, which emerged as the LP "Vier Fäuste für Hanns Eisler" which boosted the duo's recognition. The same year, Goebbels started formal music studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main. In 1978 the duo played at the Deutsches Jazzfestival Frankfurt and started to work on a second LP "Vom Sprengen des Gartens" for SAJ/FMP (1979), where they also worked in a manner removed from their European heritage by implementing ideas from German composers, such as Bach and Schumann in their free improvisations.
Mahabharata, like many ancient Sanskrit texts, was transmitted across generations verbally, a practice that was a source of corruption of its text, deletion of verses, as well as the addition of extraneous verses over time.Bharadvaja Sarma (2008), Vyasa's Mahabharatam, , Academic Publishers, page 10-12Paul Deussen (1906), Vier philosophische Texte des Mahabharatam, Leipzig, F. The modern-day Hofje van Codde en Berestijn was built in 1968 on land next to the Cathedral of Saint Bavo, because the original donator, Pieter Jansz Codde, was Catholic and built his hofje next to the former cathedral in Haarlem, the Sint-Bavokerk on the Grote markt in the center of town. This location is the second move that the hofje made in its history spanning four centuries. The Haarlem archives still keep the will and testament of the original donor, where it states that Mr. Pieter Jansz Codde, curate of the (old) Sint- Bavokerk, Grote markt, wrote in 1598 that from the proceeds of his will, four rooms ('‘camerkens’') should be founded “Hofkenswijs” (in the Hofjes way) for poor elderly women. The resulting hofje was built by his executor Hendrick Spoorwater in 1609 on the Nauwe Damsteeg, next to the newly founded underground Catholic church Franciscusstatie (which itself later relocated to the Donkere Spaarne and was called de Vier Heemskinderen"Meer dan Steen - Haarlemse gebedshuizen vroeger en nu", Historical Werkgroup "Vereniging Haerlem"; editor: Leny Wijnands, 2007.).
