He was promoted to lieutenant on 20 June 1900.Hart′s Army list, 1903 Kearsey fought in the Second Boer War, being present at the Relief of Ladysmith. During the operations in the Relief, Kearsay was severely wounded at Venters Spruit on 20 January 1900.
Venters takes charge of the wounded girl, taking her to a secret location, Surprise Valley. The two soon fall in love, and leave the valley to marry. Meanwhile, Jane admits to Lassiter that the man he is hunting, Lew Walters, is in fact a local judge, now calling himself Judge Dyer. Lassiter rides into town and rushes into Dyer's courtroom, shooting the villain with deadly precision.
On August 25, 2017 she made it known that she planned to run for the seat being vacated by Daniel J. Venters. She filed to run on February 1, 2018. She easily won the primary in May 2018, however it led to a runoff between her and her nearest opponent, Daniel Ballou. On November 6, 2018 she gained 66.63% of the vote to Ballou's 33.37%.
In 1960, Gail Lewis sold his 37.5-percent stake in the station to the remaining partners, Flanagan and Dr. Robert C. Currin, for $10,000; the sale coincided with Lewis' purchase of WEYE in Sanford. H. Cloid Wade Jr. and Carl W. Venters Jr., owners of WFAG in Farmville, bought WFVG in 1962. As WFVG, the station provided agricultural information, along with country music and rock and roll.
Former Texas Ranger Lassiter (William Farnum) leaves Texas and travels to Arizona sage country pursuing a group of Mormons who abducted his married sister. He arrives at the Withersteen ranch near the Utah border, where his sister was last seen. He meets the Withersteens and their beautiful daughter, Jane (Mary Mersch). Lassiter rescues her rider, Venters (William Scott), from torture at the hands of a villain named Tull (Murdock MacQuarrie).
She tells him that Millie died while searching for her daughter after little Bess was abducted. Lassiter and Venters go after a gang of rustlers who have been raiding the Withersteen ranch and stealing their cattle. They wound and capture the masked leader of the gang, who turns out to be a young beautiful woman. She is revealed to be Bess Erne (Marion Nixon), Lassiter's long-lost niece.
Megalytoceratinae is a subfamily of lytoceratids ammonites consisting of planulate forms, i.e. those with moderately evolute compressed shells with bluntly rounded venters, in which the outer whorls become smooth and sutures tend to resemble those of the Perisphinctidae. The family includes three genera, Megalytoceras, and Metrolytoceras, from the Middle Bajocian of England, Perilytoceras from the Toarcian and a fourth possible member, Asapholytoceras, from the Toacian of southeastern Europe.
However, Venters is very able with firearms and horses, and he is determined to not be beat. ;Jim Lassiter Lassiter is a gunfighter on a mysterious mission which brings him to Cottonwoods and Miss Withersteen. He is a non-Mormon and furthermore has no creed except his own way. ;Bess/Elizabeth Erne Bess has been raised by Oldring and his band of rustlers; she has very little memory of her mother.
Venters primarily throws a sinker, which he throws with exceptional velocity (93–96 mph). He used that sinker to achieve a near-70% ground ball rate in 2010, leading all qualified MLB pitchers. His superb knuckle curveball is thrown at 85–88 mph. In 2011, it resulted in an extraordinary whiff rate of 71% (the highest for any pitch by any relief pitcher) and was put in play less than 6% of the time.
Paratornoceratinae is a subfamily of oxyconic dimeroceratids included in the order Goniatitida, a group of Paleozoic ammonoids, which have closer affinity to living coleoids than to Nautilus. Paratornoceratinae as defined by Ebbighausen, Becker, & Bockwinkel in 2002 comprises three recognised genera with sharp, oxyconic, venters; Acrimeroceras, Paratornoceras, and Polonites. The shell, as described for the type, Paratornoceras, is subglobular and evolute on young stages, but discoidal and with closed umbilicus in the adult.
After the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled SB 151 "unconstitutional", the decision received praise from the Kentucky Public Pension Coalition and the Kentucky Democratic Party, and criticism by the Kentucky Republican Party. Justice Daniel J. Venters wrote that the bill did not comply with the requirements established in the constitution. Teachers celebrated the decision and called it a "win for democracy". However, Matt Bevin criticized the decision as "unprecedented power grab by activist judges".
Fortnum & Mason run an annual industry-acclaimed food and drinks awards. In the words of F&M; CEO Ewan Venters, the awards recognise ‘the pinnacle of high achievement in food and drink across the media’. The awards celebrate the best writers, publishers, presenters, image-makers and personalities working in the food and drink industry. The 2018 Awards ceremony was hosted by Claudia Winkleman and winners included Nadiya Hussain, Nigel Slater and Jay Rayner.
Hoplitoides is an ammonite from the Upper Cretaceous, Turonian belonging to the Coilopoceratidae, a family in the Acanthoceratoidea. Hoplitoides have early whorls which are grooved, then flat, and finally narrowly rounded venters; early stages with umbilical tubercles and space ribs, later stages becoming smooth. The suture is similar to that of Coilopoceras but less extreme. Hoplitoides has an established distribution which is widespread, from western North America, northwestern Africa and northern South America.
After being dominant in his role for much of the season, Braves setup man Jonny Venters posted a 5.11 September ERA. These sharp declines in both relievers led many critics to question the handling of the bullpen by Braves manager Fredi González. Veteran starter Derek Lowe posted a win-loss record of 0–5 in September with an ERA of 8.75. Shortly into the offseason, Lowe would be traded to the Cleveland Indians.
When two dominant males encounter each other, they engage in a wrestling bout. The males have their venters clasped, each individual in an erect position rising to well above water level. The New Jersey study noted the males would approach each other to within a few centimeters and then tilt back their heads, displaying their brilliantly colored gular sacs. The gular is dichromatic in bullfrogs, with dominant and fitter males displaying yellow gulars.
Accordingly, females must compete for access to male parental care. Thus, females have been selected for ornamentation as the benefit of producing the ornamentation, namely male paternal care, outweighs the costs, such as the energy requirements. Most notably, their venter becomes more colourful during breeding season. Males tend to prefer females with more colourful venters, with research showing that there is a positive association between this ornament and the condition of the female.
Despite continued success as a rock station into the 1980s, the Durham Life Broadcasting Company decided WQDR would have more success in the country music format. Venters left to form Voyager Communications group in 1982. In the summer of 1984, Durham Life Broadcasting, under Don Curtis' management, announced plans to switch WQDR's format to country in September. This predictably set off a howl of protest from listeners, and added media coverage for the station and its staffers.
He struck out eight while allowing only two hits and walking two. Braves' relievers Peter Moylan and Jonny Venters could not hold the lead as the Giants scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning on Juan Uribe's RBI fielder's choice and Cody Ross' RBI single. The Braves had an opportunity to escape the one-out, bases-loaded jam; however, Álex González's throwing error, his second in the game, cost them. Both of the errors were debatable.
Hecticoceratinae is a subfamily of oppeliids from the Middle and Upper Jurassic typically with strong falcoid or falcate ribbing that covers whorl sides completely. Venters are usually keeled and may be tricarinate.Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology Part L, L276 (Ammonoidea) The Hecticocerainae, which has its origin in the Oppeliinae, give rise to the Distichoceratinae near the beginning of the Middle Jurassic Callovian, and to the Glochiceratinae early in the Upper Jurassic Oxfordian.Classification of Jurassic Ammonitina, D.T. Donovan, et al.
In one section, Guido describes testing an antidote of his own creation against Anconitum (wolfsbane). After poisoning himself with the plant, he writes that he ate a mash made from larva which had fed on Aconitum flowers and successfully recovered. The Anothomia Philippi Septimi is a work on dissection created in 1345. It follows the approach used by Guido's mentor Mondino de Luzzi, exploring the three "venters" or regions of the human body: abdomen, chest, head.
The Medlicottioidea is one of two superfamilies that make up the Prolecanitida, the other being the Prolecanitoidea. The Medlicottioidea are recognized by their discoidal to thinly lenticular, and involute shells with small umbilici; flat, often grooved venters, and variably complex sutures. Medlicottiacean shells are often more ornamented and may sport ventrolateral nodes or ribs. The Medlicottioidea combines two related families, the ancestral Pronoritidae, descended from the Prolecanitidae in the Upper Mississippian and the derived Medlicottiidae which first appeared in the Lower Pennsylvanian.
In game three Jonathan Sánchez struck out 11 and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Giants led 1–0 in the eighth until Eric Hinske's pinch-hit two-run homer gave the Braves the lead. Rookie righthander Craig Kimbrel came out of the bullpen to start the top of the ninth for the Braves, relieving Jonny Venters who had struck out the side the previous inning. Kimbrel retired Cody Ross on a popout to Brooks Conrad for the first out.
The Xenodiscidae are the earliest of the Ceratitida and comprise Middle and Upper Permian genera characterized by compressed, discoidal, evolute shells with rounded to acute venters and commonly with lateral ribs. Sutures are goniatitic to weakly ceratitic.Arkell et al, 1957 The Xenodiscidae, which are part of the superfamily Xenodiscaceae, are derived from the Daraelitidae, a family in the Prolecanitida (ibid). In turn, the Xenodiscidae provided the root stock for the subsequent expansion and diversification of the Ceratitida in the Triassic.
Placenticeratidae is an extinct family of mostly Late Cretaceous ammonites (cephalopod order Ammonitida) included in the superfamily Hoplitoidea, derived from the Engonoceratidae by an increase in suture complexity. Placeticeratids are characterized by rather involute compressed shells of moderate to large size with narrow flat or grooved venters (outer rims), at least on early whorls. Most are rather smooth or weakly ornamented except for a few later forms in which the outer whorls are strongly tuberculate. The suture has numerous, including auxiliary and adventive, elements.
Scotland won 3–2, their goals coming from a Joe Bacuzzi own goal and a brace from Dougie Wallace. The Scotland team that day comprised: Jerry Dawson, Bobby Hogg, Andy Beattie, Malky McDonald, Jimmy Dykes, George Brown, John Milne, Tommy Walker, Jimmy Smith, Dougie Wallace and Jimmy Caskie. The two teams met again at Hampden Park, Glasgow on 3 May 1941 in front of a crowd of 78,000. This time Scotland suffered a 3–1 defeat, with their only goal coming from Alex Venters.
The IEEE Spectrum has organized a number of competitions on quilt block design, and several books have been published on the subject. Notable quiltmakers include Diana Venters and Elaine Ellison, who have written a book on the subject Mathematical Quilts: No Sewing Required. Examples of mathematical ideas used in the book as the basis of a quilt include the golden rectangle, conic sections, Leonardo da Vinci's Claw, the Koch curve, the Clifford torus, San Gaku, Mascheroni's cardioid, Pythagorean triples, spidrons, and the six trigonometric functions..
The game ended 0–0. The Scotland team that day comprised: Jerry Dawson, Jimmy Carabine, Andy Beattie, Bill Shankly, Willie Corbett, Matt Busby, Willie Waddell, Tommy Walker, Jock Dodds, Gordon Bremner and Billy Liddell The two teams met again at Hampden Park, Glasgow on 17 April 1943 in front of a crowd of 105,000. This time Scotland suffered a 4–0 defeat. The Scotland team that day comprised: Jerry Dawson, Jimmy Carabine, Jock Shaw, Bill Shankly, George Young, Sammy Kean, Willie Waddell, Willie Buchan, Dougie Wallace, Alex Venters and Billy Liddell.
2010 The color of the toad can change its color depending on its activities and environment. The colors on its sides are generally faded, but its dorsum is dark and broad with various light or dark spots, mottling, or patches that cover the light strip along its middorsal area. Its abdomen is generally highly mottled, but its ventral surface is nearly light or unmarked. The venters of certain narrow-mouthed toads in the Great Plains are generally unmarked, or virtually so, while those of eastern toads are strongly pigmented.
Along with Craig Kimbrel and Jonny Venters, the three formed the back end of the Braves bullpen. As of August 21, 2011 the trio had three of the six lowest ERAs in the NL. In fact, O'Flaherty became the first pitcher ever to post a sub-1.00 ERA in 70 or more appearances. In January 2012, the Braves and O'Flaherty agreed on a 1-year deal worth $2.49 million, that nearly tripled O'Flaherty's previous salary of $895,000. O'Flaherty performed well in the 2012 season playing 64 games with a 3-0 and a 1.73 ERA.
The next batter, Pat Burrell, walked on a 3–1 pitch near the inside corner and Lowe's night was done. The Braves might have been able to escape the one-out, bases-loaded jam, but Álex González's throwing error, his second in the game, cost them.
Along with Alex Venters, Kinnear scored in front of the all-time record crowd at Ibrox in a 2–1 victory over Old Firm rivals Celtic. He also enjoyed wartime spells with Third Lanark, Dunfermline Athletic and Stirling Albion. He returned to Ibrox in 1956 as physiotherapist and had a hand in the transfer of Harold Davis to the club, having worked with him as a patient. He later became a trainer under Scot Symon but left the club in 1970 when manager William Waddell replaced his backroom staff.
In 1964, he commissioned a four-ton clock to be installed above the main entrance of the store as a tribute to its founders. Every hour, models of William Fortnum and Hugh Mason emerge and bow to each other, with chimes and 18th- century–style music playing in the background. Since Garfield Weston's death in 1978, the store has been run by his granddaughters, Jana Khayat and Kate Weston Hobhouse. The Managing Director is Ewan Venters. The store underwent a £24 million refurbishment in 2007 as part of its tercentenary celebrations.
Giants rookie catcher Buster Posey singled to left, stole second in a controversial play where he was called safe while appearing to be out, and then scored on a two-out single by Cody Ross. The run was the only one Lincecum needed, as the Giants' ace was dominant, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits and striking out a franchise record 14 while walking only one. Lowe pitched only innings before being lifted for the bullpen. Jonny Venters, Peter Moylan, Michael Dunn, and Craig Kimbrel combined to pitch the final innings of the Braves loss.
Braves manager Bobby Cox countered by sending left-handed utility man Eric Hinske to the plate instead. With two strikes on him, Hinske turned on a hanging slider from Romo and drove it just inside the right field foul pole for a home run, giving the Braves a 2–1 lead and electrifying the crowd at Turner Field. Rookie right-hander Craig Kimbrel came out of the bullpen to start the top of the ninth for the Braves, relieving Jonny Venters, who had struck out the side the previous inning. Kimbrel retired Ross on a popout to Conrad for the first out.
Jamie Moyer is the oldest player to undergo the surgery. Jonny Venters is one of the only players to undergo the surgery more than two times. Tommy John surgery (TJS), known in medical practice as ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction, is a surgical graft procedure in which the ulnar collateral ligament in the medial elbow is replaced with either a tendon from elsewhere from the patient's own body, or the use of a tendon from the donated tissue from a cadaver. The procedure is common among collegiate and professional athletes in several sports, most notably baseball.
WTRG signed on with the fight songs from Duke, UNC and NC State before debuting with an oldies format, only to quickly change to an adult contemporary format. They returned to oldies in 1989 as "Oldies 100.7". Tom Joyner purchased WTRG in 1991 and built a community-minded station which took editorial stances: an example of this was the station's 1993 effort for increased rights of victims of violent crimes. With the relaxation of dual ownership rules, WTRG was sold in 1994 to Hicks Muse of Dallas, along with Carl Venters' WRDU, a move-in from nearby Wilson.
Campbell was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Lancashire Fusiliers on 23 November 1898, followed by promotion to lieutenant on 27 September 1899. He served with the 2nd Battalion of his regiment in the Second Boer War 1899–1901, including as part of the Ladysmith Relief Force, and was slightly wounded at the engagement at Venters Spruit (20 January 1900), for which he was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO)."Duncan Frederick Campbell, Lieutenant, Lancashire Fusiliers. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa" (London Gazette, 19 April 1901) He was promoted captain, 5 October 1901.
On December 23, 1948, articles of incorporation were drafted to create a new radio station in Pikeville, Kentucky. This radio station became WPKE. On July 31, 1949, the first broadcast from WPKE was transmitted at 250 watts. During the early 1950s, Jack Hatcher bought out stockholders O.T. Hinton, Mitchell Preston, Alvis P. Keene, Dr. O.W. Thompson, Clyde Childers and Edward Venters, becoming the sole owner of the radio station. Burton Robinson, the business manager of WPKE, hired 16-year-old Walter E. May as the first rock and roll disc jockey. After his death in 1960, his heirs sold all of the controlling stock to three men from Morehead, Kentucky.
73-78 He was grave and stern, but not well liked by students and unable to deal with the problems facing the college. In 1922, five students were brought up on charges of inciting "sedition and rebellion in College" by being "venters and circulators of calumny and slander against the character and reputation of the Principal of this College." These students had signed a petition from members of the Philo and Franklin Literary Societies alleging that McMillan was an inadequate teacher and speaker. In a related charge, another student was accused of writing an article making light of certain religious organizations and scholarships funded by presbyteries.
Amaltheidae is a family of eoderoceratoidean ammonitids from the Lower Jurassic consisting of genera characterised by stigated discoidal oxycones—narrow involute shells with narrowly rounded to angular venters that bear a series of grooves, or ridges, along broad flanks, which according to the Treatise L, 1957, evolved into strongly ribbed planulates (discoidal evolute shells) with quadrate whorls, typically with crenulated keels; involving all together four genera. Donovan in Donovan et al. (1981) retains the Amaltheidae in the sense of Arkell, et al. 1957, as shown in the Treatise but synonymizes Pseudoamaltheus with Amaltheus, (a subgenus in the Treatise), reducing the number of valid genera to three.
The Grypoceratidae begin with Epidomatodceras from the Lower Carboniferous (Mississippian), an evolute form with a smooth shell, subquadrate whorl section, and a sharp angular ventral lobe in the suture. Epidomatoceras is followed by Domatoceras, Paradomatoceras, Stearoceras, Stenopoceras, and Titanoceras from the Upper Carboniferous (Pennsylvanian) and Lower Permian. Domatoceras, Paradomatoceras, and Titanoceras are rather similar in that they are somewhat large, evolute with whorls in contact but not deeply impressed along the inner margin of the whorls, and with straight flanks and flattened venters. Whorl sections vary from strongly compressed side to side with height much greater than width in Paradomatoceras to slightly depressed with height less than width in Titanoceras, with Domatoceras subquadrate in between.
Morgan batting for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011 On March 27, 2011, Morgan was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for prospect Cutter Dykstra (son of baseball player Lenny Dykstra). Morgan fractured his middle finger in the 8th inning on a sacrifice bunt against Jonny Venters. After two separate stints on the disabled list, he joined Carlos Gómez in a platoon in center field with Gómez in the lineup versus left-handed pitchers and Morgan in the lineup versus righties. On June 8 against the New York Mets, Morgan recorded his first walk-off hit with a double down the right field line at Miller Park to win the game 7–6.
Oppeliinae is a subfamily within the Oppeliidae, a family of Jurassic ammonites characterized by forms that are mainly oxyconic, compressed with sharp venters, in the adult and with keeled inner whorls. Sutures are complex, consisting of a long series of evenly graded lobes and saddles with finely frilled endings.Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology Part L L274,(Ammonoidea) The Oppeliinae gave rise to the Hecticoceratinae in the early Bathonian stage, near the middle of their range and to the Taramelliceratinae, in the late Callovian, near the end of their tange, which in turn gave rise to the Streblitinae in the early Kimmeridgian and to the Haploceratidae in the late Kimmeridgian.Classification of Jurassic Ammonitina, D.T. Donovan, et al.
Elspeth sees that Stephen meant much more to Eliza than her other children. Eliza is unforgiving of the marriage because Lidy is not a Quaker, and when Elspeth innocently discloses that Lidy was courted by neighbor Mel Venters while Stephen was in California, Eliza's attitude hardens. Lidy, aware that she is isolated from the rest of her new family, spends hours by herself but on Christmas Eve secretly sends Elspeth to take a note to her former beau warning him to stay away now that she is a married woman. When Mel takes Elspeth back to the Birdwell home, friends have gathered to shivaree the new couple and he sarcastically and bitterly bids them well.
He sustained another injury with a jammed thumb while trying to make a play in that game. He returned to the Yankees on August 25, going 2-for-4 with 2 singles in a win for the Yankees over the Oakland Athletics. On August 26, Rodriguez hit his first home run since coming off the disabled list, a solo shot off Baltimore Orioles pitcher Tommy Hunter. He concluded the season with 16 home runs and 62 RBIs in 99 games, ending his major league-record streak of 13 straight seasons of 30 homers and 100 RBIs. Rodriguez hit his 23rd career grand slam off Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Jonny Venters on June 12, 2012, which tied Lou Gehrig for the most in MLB history.
After Lowe walked Aubrey Huff and allowed an infield single to Buster Posey with one out in the seventh, Bobby Cox, managing his last game after a long and distinguished career in Toronto and Atlanta, went to the mound apparently to remove Lowe from the game. But after talking to him, Cox elected to leave Lowe in, prompting huge cheers from the Atlanta fans. The next batter, Pat Burrell, walked on a 3–1 pitch near the inside corner, and Lowe's night was done after striking out eight while allowing only two hits and walking two. Relievers Peter Moylan and Jonny Venters couldn't hold the lead, as the Giants promptly scored two runs on Juan Uribe's RBI fielder's choice and Cody Ross' RBI single.
With a runner at first and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Giants still nursing their 1–0 lead, Giants setup man Sergio Romo, a right-hander, relieved Sánchez to face the right-handed Troy Glaus as a pinch-hitter. Braves manager Bobby Cox countered by sending left-handed batter Eric Hinske to the plate instead. With two strikes on him, Hinske turned on a hanging slider from Romo and drove it just inside the right field foul pole for a home run, giving the Braves a 2–1 lead, and electrifying the crowd at Turner Field. Rookie right-hander Craig Kimbrel came out of the bullpen to start the top of the ninth for the Braves, relieving Jonny Venters, who had struck out the side the previous inning.
Despite contemporary photographs of Globočnik's corpse and reliable reports, such as the Regimental Diary and Field Reports of the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, detailing the circumstances of his capture and suicide, urban legends suggested he survived the war, or that circumstances of his death differed. Prior to the 1980s, there was debate over the circumstances of Globočnik's survival; some had speculated that his death in either early May or June 1945 was at the hands of either partisans or a Jewish revenge squad. A false version of Globočnik's fate has circulated that says he was turned over to U.S. intelligence by the British. This is based on an "official US document signed by US CIC S/A Operations Officer Andrew L. Venters, dated 27 October 1948, more than three years after his supposed death".
After officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Barrett was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Lancashire Fusiliers on 11 February 1899. He served with the 2nd Battalion of his regiment in the Second Boer War 1899-1902, including as part of the Ladysmith Relief Force, and was slightly wounded at the engagement at Venters Spruit on 20 January 1900, when he had to take the responsibility as lieutenant, promotion to the rank later confirmed to the same day. The battalion stayed in South Africa throughout the war, which formally ended in June 1902 after the Peace of Vereeniging. Barrett joined other officers and men of the battalion who left Cape Town on the SS Britannic in October that year, and was stationed at Aldershot after their return.
Whilst there has been a steady growth of numbers in recent years, the bulk of the serious advocacy is still undertaken by solicitor advocates with many years of advocacy practice behind them. Some solicitor advocates have been working exclusively in higher courts for fifteen years (or longer if former barristers) and have developed particular specialisms, for example in regulatory and disciplinary work such as Andrew Hopper QC; in family work, such as June Venters QC; in extradition cases, such as Michael Caplan QC; and elsewhere in various parts of the criminal field, such as in terrorism work and fraud; e.g., Niall Quinn QC. Solicitor advocates are regularly appointed to the ranks of Queen's Counsel, albeit the numbers of applicants are relatively low. Solicitor advocates have also been appointed to the High Court Bench.
Rainey took the loss as he gave up two runs in the top of the tenth inning and the Nationals left the tying and winning runs on base against Braves closer Luke Jackson. Heading to Florida for three games with the Miami Marlins, the Nationals optioned Fedde to Class- AAA Fresno, giving Voth a longer look in the rotation. They also optioned McGowin back to Fresno, transferred injured starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson to the 60-day injured list, and selected the contracts of veteran relievers Fernando Rodney, who became the oldest player in MLB at 42 years old as he joined the Nationals in Miami, and Jonny Venters. Rodney made his Nationals debut as the only reliever to pitch in the June 25 series opener, getting the ball in the ninth inning after Scherzer threw eight innings of one-run ball. He walked his first batter before getting a strikeout and a double play to finish off the 6–1 win.
He also saved nine games that season as the closer for Myrtle Beach. In 2011, with the Mississippi Braves of the Southern League, he was 4–8 with a 4.57 ERA in 36 appearances, including 13 starts. The Braves added him to their 40-man roster after the 2011 season to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He began the 2012 season in Mississippi, where he was 3–6 with a 3.23 ERA 16 games (12 starts). He was promoted to the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves of the International League on July 4, 2012, but did not make an appearance for them. On July 5, 2012, Avilán was called up by the Braves to replace the injured Jonny Venters. He made his first appearance on July 14 against the New York Mets, striking out the only batter he faced (Ike Davis). His first career win came on October 3 against the Pittsburgh Pirates on the final day of the season. In 31 appearances that season for the Braves, he had an ERA of 2.00.
