Palttala's best seasons came in 2011 and 2012 in the Blancpain Endurance Series, where he finished 2nd in the championship each year, driving for Marc VDS Racing Team. Palttala drove in the Le Mans Endurance Series for various teams from 2005 until 2010. In the 2010 season, he won the GT1 class at the 1000 km of Spa and participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Gun armament was two twin gun turrets in "A" and "Y" positions which were controlled by a single radar director. Joan Olivé Márquez (born 22 November 1984 in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain) is a former professional Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. He has competed in the 125cc, 250cc, Moto2 and Moto3 World championships since he started to race professionally in the 2001 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. After retiring from racing, he became the test/replacement rider for KTM's Moto3 project. In early 2019, Olivé was appointed team manager of the Marc VDS Racing team.

Luyendyk's services were retained for 1991 (he won earlier in the season at Phoenix), and RCA sponsored the fledgling entry car at Indy. John Andretti joined the newly rebooted Hall-VDS team, taking over the Pennzoil sponsorship. Andretti kicked off the season by winning his first (and only) career CART race at the season opener, the Gold Coast Grand Prix at Surfers Paradise. As a result of his success in the Superstock championship, Morbidelli earned a place as a replacement rider for Gresini in 3 rounds of the Moto2 championship. For 2019, as Marc VDS left the premier class, Morbidelli signed with the newly- formed Petronas SRT team on a two-year deal. He would ride an "A-spec" satellite Yamaha alongside rookie Fabio Quartararo. With 115 points, he finished 10th in the riders' championship. Just before the delayed start to the 2020 season, Petronas SRT announced that Morbidelli had been signed on a further two-year deal, meaning he stays with the team until at least the end of 2022.

At the end of 1994, de Ferran was invited to test a CART by Hall/VDS Racing. Despite the worries of the team's sponsor Pennzoil that de Ferran was not famous enough name for their car, the team was sufficiently impressed to offer de Ferran a drive for 1995. Team LCR is a motorcycle racing team currently competing in the MotoGP World Championship under the name LCR Honda. The team was founded in 1996 by Italian rider Lucio Cecchinello. In 2015, they were represented by British rider Cal Crutchlow on a factory-specification Honda RC213V bike, and Australian rookie Jack Miller, riding an open-specification Honda RC213V-RS. In 2015, MARC also unveiled a Mazda3-styled body panel kit to enter the 2015 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, which still used the Ford Coyote engine.

He drove for Newman-Haas Racing in their No. 2 Texaco Havoline/K Mart Lola T92/00-Ford Cosworth XB. He qualified third and finished sixth. Fabi moved to Hall VDS Racing for 1993 in the No. 8 Pennzoil Lola T93/00-Ilmor-Chevrolet Indy V8 265C, achieving a best finish of fourth at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. After the race Fabi was third in points, 10 points out of the lead behind Nigel Mansell and Mario Andretti. At the Indianapolis 500 Fabi started seventeenth and finished ninth. After Long Beach his best finish was sixth, at the Marlboro 500, at Michigan International Speedway. Fabi ended up eleventh with 64 points. For 1994 Fabi drove for the re-organized Hall Racing (VDS Racing withdrew from the team following 1993) in the No. 11 Pennzoil Reynard 94i-Ilmor Indy V8.

The vessel may also have a Russian SSN-137 Variable Depth Sonar (VDS) with NATO reporting name Steer Hide, providing active search with medium frequency, and the sonar might be license produced in India with Indian designation SSSN-113.

The 1984 Can Am season was the seventeenth running of the Sports Car Club of America's prototype series, and the eighth running of the revived series. 1984 would mark a major downturn in the series, as Juan Manuel Fangio II would become the last major driver to podium in a Can Am Series race, finishing third at Dallas. The dominant manufacturers were Chevrolet, Hart, BMW for the first time with a third-place finish at Brainerd, Cosworth, Lola, Ralt, and March. Dominant chassis were VDS, March, Frissbee-Lola, Ralt, and Williams with their first podium with a third-place finish at Lime Rock.

This race also saw Michelin take over from Bridgestone as MotoGP's official tyre supplier, returning for the first time since the 2008 Valencian Grand Prix. The 2015 Total Spa 24 Hours was the 67th running of the Spa 24 Hours. It was also the fourth round of the 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series season and was held on 25 and 26 July at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. The race was won by BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS and drivers Nick Catsburg, Lucas Luhr and Markus Palttala. The trio's No. 46 BMW Z4 GT3 finished a lap clear of Audi Sport Team WRT and their No. 2 Audi R8 LMS ultra, driven by Nico Müller, Stéphane Ortelli and Frank Stippler.

Alex won the 2019 Moto2 world championship securing a double championship haul for the Marquez brothers.

However, a braking problem with the car resulting in a repair lasting at least two hours cost the team any chance of a class victory. Nevertheless, the MPB Racing Team's BMW still set the fastest lap in class. In addition to his outings with BMW Sports Trophy Team Studie, he joined BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS again for another running at the 24 Hours Nürburgring. However, a pit fire with his car cost the team 7 minutes, and by the end of the race Müller finished in an impressive 4th place (the sister car finished 2nd), with fellow works drivers Augusto Farfus, Nicky Catsburg, and Dirk Adorf.

When the joint Australian-New Zealand open- wheeler series, the Tasman Series was discontinued after the 1975 series, the four Australian former Tasman races became the Rothmans International Series. The series was run during February of each year from 1976 to 1979, with races at Sandown, Adelaide International Raceway, Oran Park and Surfers Paradise International Raceway. Future (1983) 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Vern Schuppan, driving for Theodore Racing, won the 1976 Rothmans International Series in a Lola T332-Chevrolet with the final round at Surfers Paradise being washed out. Former Tasman Series winner Warwick Brown won the 1977 and 1978 Rothmans titles driving the Lola for the VDS team.

For the teams which represented each of the six manufacturers, two privateers were selected by each manufacturer. During the launch of the FIA GT1 World Championship, Matech Concepts and VDS Racing Team announced their continuation with the Ford GT project. Hexis Racing of France also announced their intent to participate in the series with Aston Martin, joining fellow FIA GT3 European Championship competitor Fischer Racing which would participate under the Young Driver AMR title. Swiss Racing Team announced on 5 November that they would enter using the Nissan GT-R, to team alongside Sumo Power GT which replaced the departing 2009 development team of Gigawave Motorsport.

With Espargaro and Redding moving up to MotoGP, Kallio went into the 2014 Moto2 season as one of the pre-season favourites for the title. He was joined alongside Spanish rider Esteve Rabat for a fourth season at Marc VDS. His quest for the title began well, as he recovered from a nasty crash in Qualifying, to finish in third place at Qatar, but was later promoted to second, after Nakagami's bike was disqualified on technical grounds. Two solid points scoring races followed, before scoring his first pole position and race win of the season, at Circuito de Jerez, leading from start to finish.

The cruiser also utilises the Punch Bowl satellite link for its weapon targeting systems.

Livio Loi (born 27 April 1997 in Hasselt) is a Belgian professional Grand Prix motorcycle racer. He competed in the Moto3 World Championship in and the first half of the season for the Marc VDS Racing Team, before being replaced by Jorge Navarro. In 2015, Loi returned to the series with RW Racing GP. After scoring 15 points in the first half of the season, Loi achieved his first Grand Prix victory at Indianapolis; in a wet-to-dry race, Loi started the race on slick tyres, and finished almost 40 seconds clear of the next rider, John McPhee. In 2016, Loi continued with the same team and the same bike of 2015 season.

Following the conclusion of negotiations between Jones and Bartlett, the BT43 arrived in Australia in early January 1978 to participate in the 1978 Rothmans International Series. In a series dominated by Australian driver Warwick Brown driving a Team VDS Lola T332C with four wins from four starts; Bartlett in the BT43 could not manage a points finish, with sequential results of Retired, 8th, 15th, and Retired. The first round of the 1978 Australian Drivers' Championship at Oran Park on July 30, 1978, proved to be more successful for Bartlett, with a second-place finish behind the McLaren M23-Leyland of John McCormack. This proved to be the highest placing achieved by the BT43 in its career.

"G. Paolucci" Airport (, ICAO: LIDP) is an Italian airport located in 'I Piani' in Pavullo, about 2 km south of Pavullo nel Frignano, Italy. The airport is used for general aviation, business aviation, leisure and sport aviation activities, and for civil protection and rescue functions. Inside there is both a flight school for piloting gliders, and a motorized flight school for VDS equipment, basic and advanced, with the possibility of making preparatory flights to the teaching activity. On the plant there is one of the four helicopter rescue bases of the Emilia-Romagna Region for Emergency and Emergency Health Transport - 118 - with the fixed presence of a BK117 / C2 aircraft; this base is the only one equipped with a winch (HEMS-HSR base) for intervention in inaccessible areas.

The Limbo anti-submarine mortar was removed to give a larger flight deck and the ship's hangar was enlarged to allow a Westland Lynx helicopter to be operated, while two triple STWS torpedo tubes provided short range anti-submarine capability. Anti-aircraft armament consisted of one Seacat launcher mounted forward of the Exocet containers and two more mounted aft on the hangar roof, backed up by two Bofors 40 mm anti-aircraft guns on the bridge wings. Type 1006 navigation radar replaced the old Type 974 radar, while the MRS3 gun control director as replaced by a GWS22 director for the forward Seacat launcher, with a second Seacat director mounted aft. Type 184M sonar replaced the main hull sonar, while the VDS was removed and its well plated over.

Gaeta (foreground) and Numana Depending on the source, the Gaeta class ships are considered to be either a Lerici subclass, or a separate class of ships. The eight ships of the Second Series Lerici class, more commonly known as the Gaeta class, were all launched in the early 1990s, and were commissioned by May 1996. The Gaeta class is almost identical to the Lerici class: the main structural differences between the ships are that displacement of the latter is 77 tons greater, the hull is longer, and the communications mast was moved from above the bridge to just forward of the exhaust funnel. The Gaetas also used an improved version of the VDS FIAR SQQ-14 (IT) sonar, which was fitted in 1991 to the four Lerici class ships.

The VDS, definitively standardized between 1948 and 1953 by Professor Gaetano Salvioli, originated first in the studies and vaccine products of Professor Edoardo Maragliano (1849–1940) Edoardo Maragliano (Genoa, 1 June 1849 - Genoa, 10 March 1940) was an Italian doctor and clinician. Creator and developer of the first anti-tuberculosis vaccination (the so-called "Maragliano Vaccine"), he was Senator of the Kingdom of Italy since 1900. and Professor Giovanni Petragnani (1893–1969), physiologist and rector of the University of Siena. If Maragliano could boast, in 1903, at the World Congress of Medicine in Madrid that he was the first to develop an anti-tuberculosis serum with killed bacilli, Petragnani further developed his previous experiences and from 1927 to 1935 defined the Italian anti-tuberculosis vaccine under the name AIP (Anatubercolina Integrale Petragnani).

Several drivers from the 2011 season return for 2012, most notably the drivers of the defending Teams Champions Hexis Racing. Stef Dusseldorp remains with the squad while Frédéric Makowiecki returns to the Hexis, having driven for the team in 2010 but campaigning for Marc VDS in 2011. FIA GT3 graduate Grégoire Demoustier joins the squad, partnered with McLaren Automotive test driver Álvaro Parente. Münnich Motorsport also retains much of their 2011 line-up, with the pairing of team owner Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock remaining while Nicky Pastorelli gets a new teammate in Mercedes-Benz factory driver Thomas Jäger, who also previously drove for Münnich in 2010. Two teams which campaigned FIA GT1 in 2010 also return, with both of them retaining some drivers from two seasons prior.

Two types of technology share the name "sonar": passive sonar is essentially listening for the sound made by vessels; active sonar is emitting pulses of sounds and listening for echoes. Sonar may be used as a means of acoustic location and of measurement of the echo characteristics of "targets" in the water. Acoustic location in air was used before the introduction of radar.

A maximum of six manufacturers would be accepted, with each manufacturer limited to supplying two privateer teams of no more than two cars. To ensure close competition, each model of car would be tested by the FIA to determine any mandatory adjustments for performance balancing.

2011 FIA GT1 World Champions Hexis Racing later announced their return to the series, joining with manufacturer McLaren, while Münnich switched to Mercedes-Benz. New entries for the 2012 season include 2010 FIA GT1 World Champions Vita4One Racing taking over the new BMW campaign from the withdrawn Marc VDS, while 2010 entrant Reiter Engineering returns with Lamborghini. FIA GT3 European Championship participant Team WRT moved to GT1 to represent Audi while former FIA GT Champions AF Corse returned with Ferrari. The grid was later expanded to eighteen cars at the close of entry applications with the return of the Exim Bank Team China title, now under the control of Belgian Porsche team Mühlner Motorsport, and the additions of Valmon Racing Team Russia representing Aston Martin and a third team supported by Spanish touring car team Sunred Engineering campaigning Fords.

Spiraling costs, a recession in North America following the oil crisis, and dwindling support and interest led to the series being canceled and the last scheduled race of the 1974 season not being run. The Can-Am name still held enough drawing power to lead SCCA to introduce a revised Can-Am series in 1977 based on a closed-wheel version of the rules of the recently canceled Formula A/5000 series. This grew steadily in status, particularly during the USAC/CART wars of the late 70s and early 80s, and attracted some top road-racing teams and drivers and a range of vehicles including specials based on rebodied single seaters (particularly Lola F5000s) and also bespoke cars from constructors like March as well as smaller manufacturers.

The conversion included the removal and replacement of all the ship's armament. The Mark 6 4.5-in gun mount was replaced by four Exocet anti- ship missiles. These ships have also have several electronic systems: one radar air and surface search RAN10S () is placed over the smaller tree, a radar of navigation and surface search SPN703 is fitted on the main tree, where a navigation radar is present as well, and finally, three radars: one RTN-10X for gun and Aspide control, and two smaller RTN-20X for the DARDO systems, all fitted in the forward superstructure, separated from the aft by the funnel and the heat dissipaters. As to submarine search, there is a VDS DE 1164 sonar, and DE1160B hull mounted. EW component is focused on Elettronica Spa MM/SLQ-746 () and two SCLAR rocket-launchers that are capable of launching chaff, flare, and HE rockets up to . Several electronic and communication systems are fitted as well, and an Selex ES IPN20 command and control system is present to integrate all the tactical information and use the weapons on board.

From 1964-1988 the ship was owned by Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (VDS). Its port of registry was Stokmarknes. In January 1988 Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (OVDS) and Ofotens Dampskibsselskab (ODS) was merged and it created Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab and port of registry was Narvik. On 30 September 1988 the ship was sold to Finnmark Fylkesrederi og Ruteselskap (FFR) for 20 million Norwegian Kroner (nok), and its port of registry was changed to Hammerfest, Norway. In 1996 the ship was sold back to Ofotens and Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (OVDS) and the port of registry was changed back to Narvik. Between 1968 and 1982, MS Lofoten also travelled an express route to Svalbard. It made another trip to the archipelago in the summer of 2007. On 30 May 2001, the ship was declared worthy of preservation, and on 2 February 2002, she was taken out of the coastal traffic, but was reinserted in December the same year as a replacement for MS Nordnorge which sailed on a cruise in Antarctica. From 19 October to 5 November 1980, MS Lofoten was upgraded and modernized at Aalborg Værft in Denmark.

The beginning of 1983 saw John Paul Sr. shoot federal witness Stephen Caron, who would testify about Paul's illegal activities. This left Junior’s career at a crossroads. After finishing second in the Grand Prix of Miami in a JLP Racing Lola, the team would be dismantled following his father’s disappearance. This left the reigning champion without a regular sportscar drive. He was hired by Henn’s Swap Shop Racing for both the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Road America Pabst 500 but these resulted in two DNFs. Away from IMSA, he tried his hand at CART racing, winning the 1983 Norton Michigan 500 in only his fourth Indycar start. After leading 66 of the 250 laps aboard the VDS Associates’s Penske PC10, he passed Rick Mears on the last lap and took the checkered flag seconds later as Mears spun and crashed behind him. With a second place in the Caesars Palace Grand Prix (Las Vegas) and a further two third places, he would go on to finish 8th in points in 1983.

The teams shared all five wins during the season; SMP Racing won two races, while AF Corse won three, with Cameron and Griffin being joined by Michele Rugolo for the victories; however, as Rugolo missed the Imola event, he finished six points behind them in the championship. SMP Racing also took the honours in the GTC class, as Olivier Beretta, Devi Markozov and Anton Ladygin finished all five races on the podium – with a victory at Le Castellet – to take class honours by 15.5 points ahead of Formula Racing duo Johnny Laursen and Mikkel Mac, who won with Andrea Piccini at Imola. Third in the class championship went to another SMP Racing entry, with drivers Kirill Ladygin, Aleksey Basov and Luca Persiani, who won the race at the Red Bull Ring. Other race victories went to Team Ukraine at Silverstone with drivers Andrii Kruglyk, Sergey Chukanov and Alessandro Pier Guidi, and BMW Sport Trophy Marc VDS at Estoril, with their trio of Bas Leinders, Markus Palttala and Henry Hassid.

Following repairs in 1961, Collett was home ported in Yokosuka, Japan, 1962-1964 for Seventh Fleet assignments that included participating in fleet exercises, patrolling the Taiwan Straits and the Gulf of Tonkin. In the autumn of 1964, a Variable Depth Sonar (VDS) was installed at the Yokosuka Naval Shipyard. Collett returned to Long Beach via Australia but returned to the Seventh Fleet in 1965 for duty from May to August. Because Collett provided naval gunfire support while in the Mekong River on 19 August 1965, personnel onboard that day may be eligible for VA benefits related to Agent Orange exposure according to the website benefits.va.gov. According to the Command History USS Collett, DD 730 Westpac deployment 1966-1968 document, the weapons delivery systems of the Collett during this time were three 5 inch/38 twin mounts, two fixed and trainable torpedo tubes, two hedgehog mounts, and DASH (Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter). The ship was again home-ported in Yokosuka, Japan, 1966-1968, and performed a variety of combat missions in the Gulf of Tonkin.

All this helped to bring these ships almost to the same level of the new de La Penne class, in 1991 still under construction, with even more weaponry (1 Super Rapido gun). What remained unsolved was the lack of a VDS (variable depth sonar), the construction vulnerability, with the tall superstructures made in aluminium (and so vulnerable to fire), the excessive amount of weapons and explosives in the small hull (especially in the aft superstructure, that in concentrated both hangar and SAM depots), some spartan solution for hosting the crew of 380, and the lack of an aft close-defence weapon: 6 were available at flanks and foredeck but the four Super-Rapido were placed at mid-ship, unable to fire directly both forward and behind. Also, the engine was of an outdated model, potentially dangerous and slow to operate from start. All these ships suffered from the age and the intense sea service, so their operational life was almost expired at the end of the 20th century, and only the delays of Horizon program allowed them to stay in service for several years longer than expected.

In 1964, Ajax deployed to the Far East, becoming the leader of the 24th Escort Group. It was a long deployment, and she did not return to the UK until 1968.Critchley 1986, p. 116. Activities included taking part in the Beira Patrol, covering the withdrawal of British forces from operations off Aden, and acting as guardship for Hong Kong. In 1970, Ajax became the Gibraltar guard ship, a required deployment at that time due to the tense fears of invasion by General Franco. In September 1970, Ajax began a modernisation at Devonport Dockyard that lasted until 1973, having her 4.5-inch gun turret replaced by an Ikara anti- submarine missile system. A pair of quadruple GWS22 SeaCat launchers were fitted aft while the two Bofors guns were retained but moved forward to abreast the ship's mainmast. The Limbo anti-submarine mortar and Wasp helicopter were retained. The long-range Type 965 radar was removed, with improved navigation and target indicating radars fitted, and the ADAWS 5 computer-aided combat direction system added to direct Ikara operations, while the Type 199 VDS was restored.
