In that regard, it's similar to the approach that Facebook has been taking with regards to offensive posts and outright fake news: rather than expecting or hoping that its algorithm can identify everything accurately, it's also trying out upvotes and downvotes on comments, and currently works with third parties to fact check and flag news.

On r/EnoughTrumpSpam, two separate posts depicting a cartoon version of Trump with a tiny penis got enough support to find their way onto r/all, while Trump's actual AMA was kicked off r/all because it got enough downvotes (as well as thousands upon thousands of upvotes) to push it out of the ranking.

And so instead of allowing anyone to promote anything on the front page, we actually reached back out to makers that posted in the past, that were featured in the past and had some number of upvotes, which illustrated that there was some popularity for the product, and allowed them to refeature their product.

In terms of censorship, Vidme's users can choose whether or not they see NSFW content, but there has already been controversy over how the trending page works and whether the clips featured there are hand-picked (staff claim they're selected "based on a combination of factors", including upvotes, "team pick status" and how recently a video was published).

I started making and maintaining extensive notes in my phone, compiling bits and pieces of jokes or dialogue I'd hear while watching a video on YouTube or a show on TV. For a while, I searched for posts through the "New" filter on popular communities that I was subscribed to, so that I could pinpoint a post that I thought would have a good chance of going viral (and would thus get more visibility and traffic for upvotes), and I could be one of the first users to leave a comment, which is another way to increase visibility.
