Meir Feinstein (; October 5, 1927 – April 21, 1947) was an Irgun member in pre-state Mandatory Palestine, during the Jewish insurgency in Palestine. Feinstein, who was sentenced to death by the British authorities, is remembered for his suicide together with Moshe Barazani, another Jewish underground fighter under sentence of death; the two killed themselves embracing each other with a live grenade lodged between them hours before their scheduled hangings. He is memorialized in Israel today as one of 12 Olei Hagardom.

Andrzej Ciołkosz (19291952), nom de plume Joseph Marek, was a young Polish language writer, literary critic and translator. He is best known for his Polish-English translation of A World Apart: The Journal of a Gulag Survivor, written by a renowned Polish World War II underground fighter, camp survivor, and dissident political writer Gustaw Herling-Grudziński. The book written in Polish, was a memoir combining various literary genres: novel, essay, psychological portrait, as well as sociological and political dissertation. It was first published in 1951 in London, a year before the sudden death of Ciołkosz at the age of 23.

Corporal Stanisław Władysław Miedza-Tomaszewski (March 13, 1913 – December 15, 2000), underground nom de guerre Miedza (footpath between fields in Polish), was a Polish war artist, and underground fighter. Member of the Polish resistance during occupation of Poland in World War II. In cooperation with Józef Walaszczyk, he was helping Jews living in the Warsaw ghetto, bringing them food, medicines and documents. He escaped from the transport to Pawiak prison after arrest, and left besieged Warsaw with the civilian population. Miedza-Tomaszewski is the author of the 1977 memoir Benefis konspiratora about his Warsaw Uprising experiences.

Prior to his encounter with the Forever People, Sonny Sumo was an honorable figure who used his prowess in sumo to compete as an underground fighter. All that's Left of You (Ma Tabaqqah Lakum) (1966) is set in a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.. It deals with a woman, Maryam, and her brother, Hamid, both orphaned in the 1948 war, their father dying in combat—his last words being a demand that they abstain from marriage until the national cause has been won—and their mother separated from them in the flight from Jaffa. She turns up in Jordan, they end up with an aunt in Gaza, and live united in a set of Oedipal displacements; Hamid seeks a mother-substitute in his sister, while Maryam entertains a quasi incestuous love for her brother. Maryam eventually breaks the paternal prohibition to marry a two-time traitor, Zakaria, since he is bigamous, and because he gave the Israelis information to capture an underground fighter, resulting in the latter's death. Hamid, outraged, tramps off through the Negev, aspiring to reach their mother in Jordan.
