Serial killer Kyle Craig was raised in rural Charlotte, North Carolina to a general, who abused him emotionally and physically at a young age and later a claim which is denied by both his older brother and mother whom both state Kyle liked to "make stuff up". Andrew Alan Lockyer (born 7 July 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the VFL/AFL during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He also had a long career with East Fremantle in the West Australian Football League. Lockyer was a member of West Coast’s inaugural VFL season and made his debut in the same match as David Hart. He began his career as a forward, but shifted during his second season to defence and established himself as part of a champion backline in 1991. He played in West Coast's 1991 Grand Final side which lost to Hawthorn, but after that was quickly discarded by Eagle selectors when the team underachieved early in 1992.

He also caught the eye of main squad manager Diego Simeone who awarded him his first top division appearance in over five years on 1 June: after just a minute on the field, he assisted Diego Costa for the second goal in an eventual 3–1 win at Zaragoza.

Less than 48 hours after Petrino's departure for the Atlanta Falcons, Steve Kragthorpe was hired from Tulsa, where he had gone 29–22 in four seasons as the head football coach. Things began to go downhill in Kragthorpe's first season as the Cardinals, fresh off an Orange Bowl win with most of the players returning, began the season ranked in the top 10 in the AP and Coaches' Poll but struggled to a 6–6 record and were not invited to a bowl for the first time since Ron Cooper's final season in 1997. A 5–7 2008 season followed that, and after finishing the 2009 season 4–8, Jurich fired Kragthorpe. Much of the fan base and media felt like Kragthorpe underachieved, was not a strong recruiter, and never had control of the program throughout his tenure as head coach.

But the real success of the season was the emergence of 18-year-old striker Michael Owen. The Chester-born youngster had impressed in a handful of appearances during 1996–97, but his impact during 1997–98 was outstanding—18 goals from 36 Premiership games, especially after Robbie Fowler was ruled out for much of the campaign with a broken leg. In midfield, the arrival of Paul Ince sought to add steel to a side creatively centred on playmaker Steve McManaman, but the team were at the peak of their Spice Boys era, and underachieved in the end, eventually finishing in third place – meaning that Liverpool would be challenging in the UEFA Cup for 1998–99.

In mid-December 2000, Vega moved on loan to Celtic – in the previous off-season, he rejected a move to the club– where he played a significant part in the winning of three trophies, in a short six-month spell. In his debut, on the 17th, he netted twice in the home demolition of Aberdeen (6–0); he also scored a brace against Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup. Released by Tottenham in June 2001, after also having refused the Scottish club's offer of an additional year, Vega moved back to England with Watford, penning a three-year deal with the Championship outfit. One of the side's best-paid players under manager Gianluca Vialli, he was released after just one season, as the club underachieved for a final 14th position; for the Hornets he netted three times, once in the league against Norwich City and twice in the League Cup, against Bristol City and Bradford City.

Founded in 1958, Sevilla Atlético quickly reached Tercera División, winning the competition in 1961 and 1962 and also spending the 1962–63 season in Segunda División. After three years in the regional leagues in the early 1970s, the club returned to the third level in 1976. In 1977 Segunda División B was created as the new third division, and Sevilla B spent time in that and the fourth categories. In 1999 it fell short in the second level promotion play-offs, after finishing the regular season as runner-up – earlier, in 1991, the club changed its name to Sevilla Fútbol Club B. In the following decade, in spite of three consecutive top-three finishes, the team underachieved in the playoffs; in the 2006–07 season, however, after a 1–0 aggregate win against Burgos courtesy of a Lolo goal in the second leg at home, it returned to division two after more than 40 years of absence.

Jenas formally announced his retirement from football on 7 January 2016 on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, having been unable to recover fully from his knee injury. Looking back on his career in 2014, he cited his PFA award and his League Cup win as his career highlights in terms of personal and team achievements respectively, and detailed his biggest regret as never having been able to play for his boyhood club Nottingham Forest at the highest level. On the question of whether or not he had underachieved in his career given his talent at a young age, he answered "yes and no", arguing that he was happy with what he had done, but that he had been held back both by injuries and the shock of losing Bobby Robson as his manager at Newcastle, which "was bigger [to him] than people think it was". He revealed that he had played while injured for a few years, simply to be on the pitch because he loved the game, even though it "probably took 10 or 20% out of my play".

Len underachieved in his freshman year, averaging 6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game, but showed lottery pick potential after serving a ten game suspension at the beginning of the year due to NCAA amateurism issues resulting from his play with BC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, a European club team from his home nation. Len opened his sophomore season on November 9, 2012 against the reigning champion Kentucky Wildcats, led by ESPN's #1 player of the 2012 recruiting class, Nerlens Noel. The game was played at the brand-new Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Len overpowered Noel throughout the entire game, scoring 24 points with 12 rebounds and 4.1 blocks, while holding Noel to 4 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks, although Kentucky won the game 72–69. Following the game, there was talk that Len could potentially be a top 5 pick in the upcoming draft. On January 16, 2013, Len ended up scoring 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, including a game-winning shot with 0.9 seconds in the game, to get a 51–50 upset over #14 North Carolina State.

In 1993 the Geelong once again underachieved as Malcolm Blight experimented with more defensive tactics.

In the ensuing summer he became one of Atlético's captains for the new campaign, receiving that role from coach Abel Resino after a reshuffle; as the Colchoneros underachieved overall, he scored in the Champions League at APOEL FC in a 1–1 away draw, a goal that secured the club's place in the season's UEFA Europa League. On 14 January 2010, Simão scored twice in a 5–1 home victory over Recreativo de Huelva that qualified to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey (5–4 on aggregate), including through an 83rd-minute free kick from 20 metres to decide the tie.

UDA Gramenet was founded in 1945, through the merger of three teams from Santa Coloma de Gramenet: FC Gramenet, UD Colomense and CF Baleares. The club first reached the national categories in 1956, and first promoted to the third division 37 years later. Gramenet finished three times in the top three in its first four seasons, but successively underachieved in the playoffs, against Real Jaén, CD Ourense and Sestao Sport Club (1993–94), Deportivo Alavés, Jaén and UD Las Palmas (1994–95) and Jaén, SD Lemona and Ourense (1996–97); in 1996 the club merged with C.D. Milán, who became Gramenet B.
