Nissl was a competent pianist. Nazi physician Hugo Spatz (1888–1969) told of his first meeting, when Spatz applied for a position in Nissl's laboratory. Nissl was busy that morning and asked the student to come to his home at twelve. When Spatz came to the house at noon, Nissl was not there, and the housekeeper finally opined that the Professor must have meant twelve midnight, so Spatz returned that night.

Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden fronted a new Friday Rock Show on BBC Radio 6 Music between 9 pm and twelve midnight. The show ran for eight years until 28 May 2010. During 2016, Vintage TV began broadcasting a programme entitled 'The Friday Night Rock Show'. Hosted by Nicky Horne, who hosted similar shows on Capital Radio during the Friday Rock Show's peak period, the show's title was chosen with the intention of paying tribute to the legacies of Tommy Vance and Alan Freeman.

The Triffids had relocated to Sydney, where Birt joined on piano, organ and vocals. The band's first 12-inch vinyl LP, Treeless Plain, was released in November 1983 by Hot Records. It had been recorded at Emerald City Studios, Sydney, in twelve midnight to dawn sessions, during August through to September with The Triffids self-producing. In April 1984 they returned to the studio with producer Nick Mainsbridge – who had engineered Treeless Plain – to record a seven-track EP, Raining Pleasure, which was issued on Hot Records in June.

The jury rules in favor of the Simpsons and the presiding judge dismisses the case.

For the first time since she was President, she did not attend the Council Annual meeting at San Antonio in April 1922, nor could she undertake the trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas to serve as a Kentucky delegate to the General Conference. She underwent an exploratory operation to determine the cause of her illness, but the prognosis was grim. She died at 40 minutes past twelve midnight on July 20, 1922, and the funeral service was held at the home of her niece two days later. Belle Harris Bennett is buried beside her sister, Sue A. Bennett, in the Richmond Cemetery.

They signed with new Australian independent label Hot Records, which brought the independent scene some much needed cohesion. The Triffids were one of the bands leading Hot's drive into overseas markets, which partly led to the label's demise. The Triffids' debut album, Treeless Plain, released in November 1983, was critically acclaimed — described as a "magnificent, muscular piece of work that pounds out simple powerful rock songs — one of the best indie rock albums of its day" — but no singles were released from it. All tracks for Treeless Plain were recorded over twelve midnight-to-dawn sessions at Emerald City Studios, Sydney, in August and September 1983 with The Triffids producing.
