Kristi Turnquist of The Oregonian stated that although Vause would only be present in a few episodes of the second season, she "turns up to devastating effect early on". In a review of the first episode of season two, Horatia Harrod of The Daily Telegraph commented that Vause is dedicated to self-preservation and thought that "another betrayal" of Chapman "reached new depths", thus she found it "puzzling" that Vause's bad-girl routine "seems to have won her a fan following, while [Chapman] is reviled." Kevin Fallon of The Daily Beast noted that there is something about Vause that "convinces [Chapman] to throw her lifelong caution to the wind." Kate Zernike of The New York Times said that Vause is "calculating" and that "there’s something black cat-like about [her] – she slips into the frame and you know things are about to go bad, or at least, get interesting.
The current social restraints on personal expression and employment opportunities related to being a sexual or gender minority in Japan present a modern challenge. As a represented minority in a country where mainstream conformity is promoted and preferred, the LGBT populace of Japan are ostracized and stereotyped by society; however they are commonly portrayed by media components. The media presents those attractect to the same gender as transgender or transsexual, or vice versa. However, even these representations are viewed as a performance instead of sexual expression, further illustrating the media's refusal to admit the existence of sexual and gender minorities. Mark McLelland stated that “the homosexual man who is transgender and restricts himself to the entertainment world is tolerated, even appreciated. However, the homosexual man who ‘passes’ and turns up to be your boss, your teacher, your neighbor or even your husband occasions a great deal of anxiety; he is a figure to be feared and or despised.”McLelland, Mark J. Male Homosexuality in Modern Japan. Richmond: Curzon Press, 2000.
She also had a child with Zedd named Thrax, who was sealed away at some point between 1998 and 2007, who would have only been at most two years old when his parents were turned back into non-powered humanoid aliens. This could easily be perceived as them being killed, since the people died when Zordon did, and the people they were before that are put in their place, whilst her father, and her brother were not so lucky for unspecified reasons. In Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997), Divatox contacts Rita for advice on how to defeat the Power Rangers, but Rita retorts that if she had known how to do that she would not be in her current predicament, and she holds the phone up to Lord Zedd's face, who is heavily snoring in his sleep. In Power Rangers in Space, their relationship has become more hostile as seen their catty immature behaviour, before and after Dark Spectre turns up to the meeting, they act like teenagers as they fight for Dark Spectre's attention only to both get snubbed in favour of his disciple Astronema.
