Ghostbike for Larry Martin Sr. On July 9, 2011, cyclist Larry Martin Sr. was struck and killed at the Byron Center crossing. This prompted the installation of West Michigan's first ghostbike. A coalition of agencies (the Kent County Road Commission, Kent County Parks, the City of Wyoming, and the Michigan Department of Transportation) met to discuss what could be done to enhance the safety of this trail crossing. The first improvement was the installation of a "countdown" signal, which relays to trail users the amount of time remaining to get across the seven traffic lanes before the signal turns green for Bryon Center Road.

However, Jerry manages to sneak in by going under the car when it stops in a driveway, coming in from an opening in the floor of a trunk then kicks Tom out of the car, causing Tom's head to skid along the road. Jerry taunts Tom as he chases down the car, but it stops at the red traffic light and Tom bends in his neck on the open trunk door. As the light turns green again, the car drives away, and after running towards it, Tom manages to hop back into the car to capture Jerry.

Cutting and grinding Nishapur turquoise in Mashhad, Iran, 1973 For at least 2,000 years, Iran, known before as Persia, has remained an important source of turquoise, which was named by Iranians initially "pirouzeh" meaning "victory" and later after Arab invasion "firouzeh". In Iranian architecture, the blue turquoise was used to cover the domes of the Iranian palaces because its intense blue colour was also a symbol of heaven on earth. This deposit, which is blue naturally, and turns green when heated due to dehydration, is restricted to a mine-riddled region in Nishapur, the mountain peak of Ali- mersai, which is tens of kilometers from Mashhad, the capital of Khorasan province, Iran. A weathered and broken trachyte is host to the turquoise, which is found both in situ between layers of limonite and sandstone, and amongst the scree at the mountain's base.

In some areas, a "prepare to stop" sign with two alternately flashing yellow lights is installed in locations where a high-speed road (design speed usually at least 55 mph / 90 km/h) leads up to a traffic light, where the traffic light is obscured from a distance (or both conditions), or before the first traffic signal after a long stretch of road with no signals.
