And the chorus is laughably unsexy: 'I want to be your favorite song/You can turn it up, play me all night long'." Another negative review came from Sputnikmusic, who wrote that "Caillat concocts what is quite possibly her cheesiest chorus yet, and it probably goes without saying that Common sounds sorely out of place. It is actually kind of reminiscent of those old-school Radio Disney songs that would mimic the melody of some major hit, make it a thousand times cheesier, and then have a rapper enter midway through to appeal to the “new, hip generation.” Needless to say, Colbie’s hip-hop experiment ends in futility.

Rene has consistently offered a broad array of funky gems since. A recent highlight has been the deep swampy-soul of “Watch Me Turn It Up” recorded in New Orleans and featuring some of the Crescent City's finest, including George Porter Jr. from The Meters on bass and Ivan Neville on Hammond B-3 organ and piano. Watching those masters perform Rene's music was a career highlight. “It was so special, it made me feel like my funk was true.” Other spotlight jams are the psych-funk freak out “U Can Bet On Me,” featuring iconic bluesy vocalist Irving Louis Lattin, and a true 1980s feel.

The American release of Modern Life Is Rubbish features an altered track listing. Blur's American label SBK Records preferred the group's original demo of "Chemical World", and included it on the album instead of the Stephen Street-produced version. According to Select magazine, this "defeated the object of recording a heavy rock song in the first place". SBK inserted "Popscene" between "Turn It Up" and "Resigned"; Blur had refused to include "Popscene" on the British version of Modern Life, disappointed by the tepid response it received when it was released as a single. "We thought, If you didn’t fucking want it in the first place," Coxon told Select, "you’re not going to get it now".

Instead, he turned up the horns based on a recommendation that Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards made 30 years earlier. Whenever Richards' guitar would get out of tune over the course of a take, instead of lowering the instrument in the mix and covering it with an overdub, he would turn it up so that, despite sounding out of tune, it would "own the sound". Describing the new mix of "Red Hill Mining Town", Lillywhite said, "the brass band is much more emotive than someone playing it on a keyboard". Other changes for the new mix were complicated by audio spill; U2 had recorded the song as a single studio performance, resulting in the drums leaking onto the track for the bass guitar amplifier.

The band members themselves described the album as radically different from anything they had done in the past, which most reviewers agreed to, with the reactions being mostly positive from major magazines like Metal Hammer and Scream Magazine, but mostly negative by online reviewers, like Sputnikmusic who called the album "...one of the worst and most frustrating releases of 2010". Along all We Rule the Night tracks, some of the most recognized songs by the critics were "Beauty and the Freak", "Burn This City" and "Break of Day", standing of as one of the albums stronger songs, while songs like "My Own Life" and "Turn It Up" were criticized for having too much pop influence. Having previously appeared in stage plays as a teenager, Evans began acting with a supporting role in director Robert Adetuyi's 2000 music drama Turn It Up, featuring Pras Michel from The Fugees, Jason Statham and Ja Rule. Released to generally negative reviews from critics, who noted it "patently absurd in both the details and larger aspects", the indie film had a short play and became a financial disappointment, gaining US$1.24 million during its U.S. run only. During 2003, Evans acted in the MTV-produced romantic comedy The Fighting Temptations in which she appeared in a brief but major role portraying a single mother and night club singer. Filmed in Columbus, Georgia and headed by Cuba Gooding Jr. (her character is his mother) and Beyoncé Knowles, the film garnered mixed reviews by critics, but scored top three of the U.S. box office, resulting in a domestic gross of US$30.2 million.
East in 2011 East was in the girl group Addictiv Ladies, who were on series 2 of The X Factor in 2005, mentored by Simon Cowell, but were eliminated in week 1 after ending up in the bottom two with Chico Slimani. Another change was Yoakam collaborating with fellow songwriters such as Kostas and Roger Miller. The album’s first single, “Turn It On, Turn It Up, Turn Me Loose,” was written by Kostas and Wayland Patton, and it was producer Pete Anderson who brought the song to Yoakam, telling him, “…this is one song I came across that sounds like something you would have written for yourself.” Yoakam and Kostas teamed up to compose “Nothing’s Changed Here,” which Anderson gave a bluesy, swaggering arrangement, and Kostas had a hand in writing the aching “Send a Message to My Heart,” which Yoakam performs as a duet with Patty Loveless. Yoakam’s other songwriting collaboration was on “It Only Hurts When I Cry” with country legend Roger Miller, and the song, which reached #7 on the country singles chart, contains the famous wordplay found in some of Miller’s biggest hits.
Jody Rosen writing for Slate argued the song has its foundations on a "pummeling 4/4 dance beat behind a synthesizer refrain borrowed from Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl"." Billboard's Erika Ramirez concluded that "Can't Stop Won't Stop" is built around "synth-heavy hook". Lyrically, the track regards the subject of sex. It tries to be a club jam by asking the listener to turn the volume up, "on the off chance that the record reaches the antennae of an extraterrestrial", with its the opening lines: "Hey what’s up / This is a jam, turn it up / Play it loud in the club / This is fire, burning it up".Unterberger noted that the lines "I don’t want to do all the normal things / That all these other normal dudes do" could be the inspiration for the title of the album and its "thesis statement", while Rosen thought they could also "be describing Usher's career trajectory".
Markos Papadatos of Digital Journal rated the song 4.5/5 stars and praised the song's "energy" and Smith's "charisma", writing "'Wastin' Gas' is one of those songs that one wants to listen to while rolling their windows down and cruising on the highway [...] His vocals are refreshing and the song has clever and fun lyrics." Mike Bell of The Calgary Herald was more critical of the song in his review of Lifted, describing it as "yet another entry in the drivin' with my best girl genre" and noting that it is "fairly catchy, relatively inoffensive, [and] remarkably familiar, but with zero risks taken." In a complimentary review of Lifted, Shenieka Russell-Metcalf of Canadian country music blog Top Country praised "Wastin' Gas" as a "fun and catchy song that is sure to make you want to turn it up loud." Robert K. Oermann of MusicRow magazine gave the song a glowing review.

He majored in Theater at Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts, and after college, gained further acting experience in Seoul's Daehangno theater district by starring in stage plays such as Hohwanmama and Grandfather's Case. But when Lee's graduation short film I Solve Everything Whatever (also known as We Will Do Your Favor) won the Audience Award at the Indie Boom Online Independent Film Festival in 2006, he switched his focus to directing. He subsequently directed the shorts Life of Dog and Help (both in 2009), while working for Cube Entertainment as head of their media division. To finance his feature directorial debut, Lee then worked as a bathhouse attendant and handed out flyers on street corners, thereby raising the micro-budget of .

28, 2000, as a result of the bankruptcy of Carmike Cinemas, and the final film presented was the rap music-drama Turn It Up. Despite an intensive grass-roots campaign by local preservationists, support by film actors and the movie industry including Kirk Douglas, Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Ray Bradbury, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the American Society of Cinematographers, the owner, Nebraska Methodist Health Systems, Inc., went ahead with demolition on August 20, 2001, to make space available for a parking lot for its administration offices. (Ironically, on August 8, the Omaha Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission had voted unanimously to recommend to the Omaha City Council that the Indian Hills be designated a Landmark of the City of Omaha. The building was destroyed anyway before the council met to take action.) The demise of the theatre and efforts to preserve others throughout the nation are chronicled in Jim Fields's documentary Preserve Me a Seat.
