This means that in the presence of excess epinephrine, a normal cardiac contraction is inhibited in an effort to reduce energy demands, prevent hyperactivity and spare the integrity of the cell. Further bolstering this idea is the concentration of these kinds of receptors in the heart. Higher concentrations of the receptor effected to produce cardiac stunning are found closer to the apex of the ventricle. This is what creates the classic ballooning effect of the ventricle.
King post truss Queen post truss A king post extends vertically from a crossbeam (the tie beam) to the apex of a triangular truss. The king post, itself in tension, connects the apex of the truss with its base, holding up the tie beam (also in tension) at the base of the truss. The post can be replaced with an iron rod called a king rod (or king bolt) and thus a king rod truss.Siegele, H. H.. Roof Framing.
A secondary smaller bract is a bracteole (bractlet, prophyll, prophyllum), often on the side of the pedicel, and generally paired. A series of bracts subtending the calyx (see below) is an epicalyx. Angiosperms are dealt with in more detail here; these structures are very different in gymnosperms. In angiosperms, the specialised leaves that play a part in reproduction are arranged around the stem in an ordered fashion, from the base to the apex of the flower.
St Edmund's Church is a simple, "austere" building which derives its effectiveness from the contrast between its strongly vertical emphasis (created by the large tower and high walls) and the high, steeply sloping site. The walls are tall, but the internal height is when measured to the apex of the roof. The church is long by wide. In style it is an Early English Gothic Revival building (Nikolaus Pevsner described it as "low-voltage Late Gothic") built of Bargate stone.
160°) than the typical Roman semi-circular arch (180°); the overall height from the riverbed to the apex of the arch is reported as 3.60 m.All data: The vault was made of three parallel, transversal arches standing at intervals of 1.20 m; the arches were built of 60 cm long, 30 cm wide and just as high ashlar, while the spaces in between are covered with longish basalt blocks. This design principle – transversal arches with lintels – seems to be unique among Roman bridges.
A symmetric tripodal tetradentate ligand can form two isomers on a square pyramid, depending on whether the bridging donor is on the apex or the base of the pyramid. The extra vacant position on the square pyramid is on the base. Square pyramidal coordination tends to occur where a six-member ring is formed with the bridgehead, bridge, feet donor atom and central atom. The longer leg (with three bridging atoms) connects to the apex of the pyramid, and symmetry is lost.
The diversions occurred close to the apex of the Colorado River Delta and would have discharged water directly through the Alamo River and indirectly through Volcano Lake and the New River into Lake Cahuilla. The infilling of the lake may have been a catastrophic flood, considering that native people fled the Imperial Valley to the mountains. Infilling to an altitude of above sea level would have taken 12–20 years. When the lake was full, the Colorado River would have entered it at the southeastern side.
Scanning Quantum Dot Microscopy Scanning quantum dot microscopy (SQDM) is a scanning probe microscopy (SPM) that is used to image nanoscale electric potential distributions on surfaces. The method quantifies surface potential variations via their influence on the potential of a quantum dot (QD) attached to the apex of the scanned probe. SQDM allows, for example, the quantification of surface dipoles originating from individual adatoms, molecules, or nanostructures. This gives insights into surface and interface mechanisms such as reconstruction or relaxation, mechanical distortion, charge transfer and chemical interaction.

With the rise of Mikhail Gorbachev to the apex of Soviet leadership in March 1985, Reagan found his negotiating partner. Indeed, Gorbachev was a sincere and committed advocate of nuclear disarmament. In 1955, Gorbachev met Jawaharlal Nehru. His "principled stand against nuclear weapons" had a big impact on a young Gorbachev. His “New Thinking,” as his advisors recalled, was strongly affected by the Western nuclear disarmament campaign. As Gorbachev himself declared: “The new thinking took into account and absorbed the conclusions and demands of . . .
A three-inch diameter dual voice coil from a subwoofer driver A voice coil (consisting of a former, collar, and winding) is the coil of wire attached to the apex of a loudspeaker cone. It provides the motive force to the cone by the reaction of a magnetic field to the current passing through it. The term is also used for voice coil linear motors, such as those used to move the heads inside hard disk drives, which produce a larger force and move a longer distance but work on the same principle.
Stigma of a Tulipa species, with pollen Closeup of stigma surrounded by stamen of White Lilium 'Stargazer' (the 'Stargazer lily') The stigma, together with the style and ovary comprises the pistil, which in turn is part of the gynoecium or female reproductive organ of a plant. The stigma forms the distal portion of the style or stylodia. The stigma is composed of , the cells which are receptive to pollen. These may be restricted to the apex of the style or, especially in wind pollinated species, cover a wide surface.
For electronics work, special diagonal cutters that are ground flush to the apex of the cutting edge on one side of the jaws are often used. These flush-cutting pliers allow wires to be trimmed flush or nearly flush to a solder joint, avoiding the sharp tip left by symmetrical diagonal cutters. It is common for this type of diagonal cutter to be referred to by another name, such as "flush cutter" to distinguish it from symmetrical cutters. Light duty flush cutting wire cutters with offcut retaining finger.
The solar dermis is often compressed enough to inhibit growth, leading to a soft, thin sole (<10 mm) that may develop seromas. In severe cases where collapse of the suspensory apparatus of P3 has occurred, the solar dermis or the tip of P3 may penetrate the sole. The horse will also be prone to recurrent abscessation within the hoof capsule. Venogram will show "feathering" into the vascular bed beneath the lamellae, and there will be decreased or absent contrast material in the area distal to the apex of the coffin bone.
Rhenish helm on Maria Laach Abbey The Rhenish helm is a type of spire typical of Romanesque church architecture of the historic Rhineland. It is a pyramidal roof on towers of square plan. Each of the four sides of the roof is rhomboid in form, with the long diagonal running from the apex of roof to one of the corners of the supporting tower. Each side of the tower is topped with an even triangular gable from the peak of which runs a ridge to the apex of the roof.
In radiology, the deep sulcus sign on a supine chest radiograph is an indirect indicator of a pneumothorax. In a supine film, it appears as a deep, lucent, ipsilateral costophrenic angle within the nondependent portions of the pleural space as opposed to the apex (of the lung) when the patient is upright. The costophrenic angle is abnormally deepened when the pleural air collects laterally, producing the deep sulcus sign. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may exhibit deepened lateral costophrenic angles due to hyperaeration of the lungs and cause a false deep sulcus sign.
Banded Swallowtail Papilio demolion has a wingspan of .Butterflies of SingaporeSamui Butterflies Male upperside is brownish black. Forewings and hindwings are crossed by a broad prominent oblique pale greenish or yellowish-white band that commences just before the middle of the dorsal margin of the hindwing, crosses over on to the forewing and is continued as a series of spots that diminish in size in the upper interspaces to the apex of that wing. On the hindwing this is followed by a subterminal series of similarly-coloured lunules.
Kohlberg's stages of moral development have been read as creating a hierarchy of increasing moral complexity,Society and the Highest Stage of Moral Development ranging from the premoral at the bottom, through the midrange of conventionalism, up to the apex of self- selected morality.Jane Loevinger, Ego Development (1976) p. 119-20 In similar fashion, Robin Skynner viewed moral ideas (such as the 'myths' of Charis Katakis) as being interpretable at different levels, depending on the degree of mental health attained;R. Skynner/J. Cleese, Life and how to survive it (1994) p.
In a longer flashback, constituting most of the second half of the film, her career as courtesan reaches a peak: her affair with the Bavarian King Ludwig I, which incenses his subjects and leads to his eventual downfall in the March Revolution of 1848. In a final circus sequence, Lola—a "fallen woman"—ascends to the apex of the big top tent for a symbolic, death-defying plunge. She is last seen in a cage, allowing her hand to be touched and kissed by a very long queue of male, fee-paying circus patrons.
To measure the wingspan of a bird, a live or freshly-dead specimen is placed flat on its back, the wings are grasped at the wrist joints, ankles and the distance is measured between the tips of the longest primary feathers on each wing. The wingspan of an insect refers to the wingspan of pinned specimens, and may refer to the distance between the centre of the thorax to the apex of the wing doubled or to the width between the apices with the wings set with the trailing wing edge perpendicular to the body.
The distal outline of the crown is more convex than the mesial outline, and the distoincisal angle is not as sharp as the mesoincisal angle. After the mammelons are worn away, the incisal edge of the maxillary central incisor is straight mesiodistally. The center of the incisal edge curves slightly downward in the center of the tooth. The cervical line, which is seen as the border between the crown and the root of the tooth, is closer to the apex of the root in the center of the tooth.
Then on lap 70, Prost went from fourth to second in one move at turn five. With Alesi and Piquet running second and third, Piquet's Benetton pulled alongside Alesi– who had set the race's fastest lap while Prost was in the pits– in Turn Four, but could not get by. Down the straight, however, Piquet passed Alesi for second place. Prost also went by his new teammate on the left, and then sliced back to the right, between Alesi and Piquet, beating Piquet to the apex of Turn Five and regaining second place.
The character of Christ Church is defined by careful detailing – the pews, the pulpit, the organ loft and particularly the impressive hammer-beam roof – as well as good lofty Gothic proportions. The nave is 18 metres long and 15 metres high to the apex of the roof. Rumpelmayer later adapted his designs for Christ Church, adding a tower and stone cladding, for his Maria Himmelfahrtskirche in Berndorf (Lower Austria), commissioned by the Krupp family and completed in 1883. The church was opened by the Chaplain at that time, the Rev.
Large rose windows illuminate the interior, which features painted and frescoed walls; the distance from the floor to the apex of the ceiling vault is 62 feet (19 m). A major renovation project in the 1970s led to significant changes in the sanctuary, including the removal of statues and its High Gothic altar. Architectural historians have divided the Precious Blood-related churches of western Ohio into four generations. St. Henry's is typical of the churches of the third generation, which are generally Gothic structures with a single central tower.
The throw-out pilot chute is the most popular type in use today. The pilot chute is packed in a pouch at the bottom of the container (often called BOC for short). When the user grabs the handle and throws the pilot chute into the airstream, the bridle extends, pulling the closing pin and opening the container, as the pilot chute continues in the airstream it extracts the deployment bag containing the main parachute from the container.
Sometimes canals may be unusually shaped, making them impossible to clean and fill completely; some infected material may remain in the canal. Sometimes the canal filling does not fully extend to the apex of the tooth, or it does not fill the canal as densely as it should. Sometimes a tooth root may be perforated while the root canal is being treated, making it difficult to fill the tooth. The perforation may be filled with a root repair material, such as one derived from natural cement called mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA).

The postmedial line is black, crenulate and slightly curved and the submarginal line is pale. There is a brownish spot at its costal extremity, and a short blackish dash from it to the apex of the wing.
Although raised Catholic, Moreno González became a Jehovah's Witness during his time in the United States. In Apatzingán, Moreno González preached to the poor and always carried a bible with him. With time, he won the loyalty of several locals, and many started to see him as a "messiah" for preaching religious principles and forming La Familia Michoacana, a drug cartel that posed as a vigilante group. When Carlos Rosales Mendoza was arrested in 2004, Moreno González ascended to the apex of La Familia Michoacana, a drug trafficking organization based in western Mexico, along with José de Jesús Méndez Vargas.
The eyes are small and oval shaped, located in the upper part of the head, which is four times as long as the eyes. The mandibles are nearly three-quarters the length of the head; P. wappleri differs from P. longiceps and P. janzeni due to the apex of the clypeal lobe being pointed instead of round, and the first segment of the flagellum is only half the length of the second segment. Before the discovery of P. wappleri, extinct Myrmeciinae ants were only found from Eocene deposits. This suggests that the subfamily was still present in Europe during the Late Oligocene.
The Abhavya state of soul is entered after an intentional and shockingly evil act, but Jaina texts also polemically applied Abhavya condition to those who belonged to a competing ancient Indian tradition called Ājīvika. A male human being is considered closest to the apex of moksha, with the potential to achieve liberation, particularly through asceticism. The ability of women to attain moksha has been historically debated, and the subtraditions with Jainism have disagreed. In the Digambara tradition of Jainism, women must live an ethical life and gain karmic merit to be reborn as a man, because only males can achieve spiritual liberation.
In human anatomy, the pterygopalatine fossa (sphenopalatine fossa) is a fossa in the skull. A human skull contains two pterygopalatine fossae—one on the left side, and another on the right side. Each fossa is a cone-shaped paired depression deep to the infratemporal fossa and posterior to the maxilla on each side of the skull, located between the pterygoid process and the maxillary tuberosity close to the apex of the orbit.Illustrated Anatomy of the Head and Neck, Fehrenbach and Herring, Elsevier, 2012, page 69 It is the indented area medial to the pterygomaxillary fissure leading into the sphenopalatine foramen.
It takes about one day for a stamen to complete its motions, and the order in which they do so varies from one flower to another. The area that is receptive to pollen, the stigmatic area, is not confined to the apex of the ovary or mounted on a style as in most flowers, but extends in bands down the sides of the ovary along the commissures, the seams where the carpels that compose the ovary are joined together. Such commissural stigmas have been discovered in Celastraceae,Merran L. Matthews and Peter K. Endress (2005). "Comparative floral structure and systematics in Celastrales".
Farther east it becomes the Serranía de Tabasará, and the portion of it closer to the lower saddle of the isthmus, where the canal is located, is often called the Sierra de Veraguas. As a whole, the range between Costa Rica and the canal is generally referred to by Panamanian geographers as the Cordillera Central. The highest point in Panama is the Volcán Barú (formerly known as the Volcán de Chiriquí), which rises to . The apex of a highland that includes Panama's richest soil, the Volcán Barú is still referred to as a volcano, although it has been inactive for millennia.
In Lord Sunday, The Piper launches an all-out attack on the Upper House, quickly overwhelming Saturday's forces and advancing up the Tower at an alarming rate. When Suzy, Leaf, and Doctor Scamandros arrive to stealthily activate the elevators, the Piper has pursued Saturday to the Apex of her tower, greatly aided by the withering of the Drasils. He launches his Newnith army against Saturday and Sunday, quickly allying with Saturday when his forces overwhelm hers. A joint army made up of Saturday's sorcerers and Newniths attack the Elysium but are turned back by Arthur using the Seventh Key to halt the battle.
Shenzhen Stock Exchange Deng's new wave of policy rhetoric gave way to a new political storm between factions in the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party. Jiang eventually sided with Deng in April 1992, and the national media finally reported Deng's southern tour almost two months after it completed. Observers suggest that Jiang's submission to Deng's policies had solidified his position as Deng's heir apparent. Behind the scenes, Deng's southern tour aided his reformist allies' such as Shanghai party committee secretary Zhu Rongji climb to the apex of national power, and permanently changed China's direction toward economic development.
J. Biol. Chem. 276:44919–25 After DnaB translocates to the apex of each replication fork, the helicase both unwinds the parental DNA and interacts momentarily with primase.Tougu K, Marians KJ. 1996. The interaction between helicase and primase sets the replication fork clock. J. Biol. Chem. 271:21398–405 In order for DNA replication to continue, single stranded binding proteins are needed to prevent the single strands of DNA from forming secondary structures and to prevent them from re-annealing. In addition, DNA gyrase is needed to relieve the topological stress created by the action of DnaB helicase.
Salazar used controversial coaching tactics like tweaking runners' natural running form, but had coached many athletes to the apex of their careers. He launched an experimental training program called the Oregon Project financed by Nike with the purpose of integrating African runners' training conditions into American training mixed with modern technology. He also discovered similarities in running posture between sprinters and top level distance runners, two disciplines previously thought to be exceedingly different. Instilling some of these methods into American runners, he was able to coach Kara Goucher to a third-place finish in the Boston Marathon in 2009, an event that East Africans typically dominate.
Total length (TL) is measured along the dorsal midline with the limbs outstretched and in line with the body axis. It is the greatest measurable extent of a specimen from the posterior end of the mantle or fins (or tail, if present; see Arkhipkin et al., 2015) to the apex of the longest limb (Roper & Voss, 1983:58). It is recommended that arms and tentacles be measured in a relaxed state so as not to exaggerate their length, but historically this practice was not always followed and some of the more extreme published giant squid measurements have been attributed to artificial lengthening of the tentacles (O'Shea & Bolstad, 2008).
Above the six-panel sets and adjacent to the apex of the roof lie the top rows of panels. These panels, called the "archaic" panels by Waterhouse, are of a radically different design to those below. Each panel is surrounded by gilded strips and set against a dark green background, rather than the pale cream of the six-panel sets; the archaic panels also continue beyond the six panel sets and over the landing of the main staircase, to run the full length of the Central Hall. The archaic panels depict flattened, stylised plants in pale colours with gilt highlighting, sometimes accompanied by birds, butterflies and insects.
Two painted brick chimneys rise through the main roof. Addressing Percy Street, the front elevation is symmetrical about a projecting gable-roofed porch to the upper storey below which a small hipped roof shelters the ground floor main entrance steps. The projecting porch is crowned by a metal cross to the apex of the gable and is distinguished by decorative fretwork (incorporating a cross motif) to the arches and infill to the paired chamfered timber posts. The upper verandah is punctuated by pairs of chamfered timber posts carrying plain square timber capitals and the solid balustrades are clad with weatherboards and lined with vertical tongue and groove boards.
In the coronary circulation, the posterior interventricular artery (PIV, PIA, or PIVA), most often called the posterior descending artery (PDA), is an artery running in the posterior interventricular sulcus to the apex of the heart where it meets with the anterior interventricular artery or also known as Left Anterior Descending artery. It supplies the posterior third of the interventricular septum. The remaining anterior two-thirds is supplied by the anterior interventricular artery which is a septal branch of the left anterior descending artery, which is a branch of left coronary artery. It is typically a branch of the right coronary artery (70%, known as right dominance).
Tobacco hornworm caterpillar (Manduca sexta) parasitized by Braconidae wasp larvae Mutualism is a form of biological interaction wherein each individual involved benefits in some way. An example of a mutualistic relationship would be that shared by yucca moths (Tegeculidae) and their host, yucca flowers (Asparagaceae). Female yucca moths enter the host flowers, collect the pollen into a ball using specialized maxillary palps, then move to the apex of the pistil, where pollen is deposited on the stigma, and lay eggs into the base of the pistil where seeds will develop. The larvae develop in the fruit pod and feed on a portion of the seeds.
Based on a method published in 1931 by H.N.Marsh,H. N. Marsh (1931)Trans AIME vol 92 pp 234-251 "Properties and Treatment of Rotary Mud" a Marsh cone is a flow cone with an aspect ratio of 2:1 and a working volume of at least a litre. A Marsh funnel is a Marsh cone with a particular orifice and a working volume of 1.5 litres. It consists of a cone 6 inches (152 mm) across and 12 inches in height (305 mm) to the apex of which is fixed a tube 2 inches (50.8 mm) long and 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) internal diameter.
Coordinates: Mausoleum of Sher Shah Mausoleum of Hasan Shah This site is included in UNESCO World Heritage Centre – Tentative list. Tomb of Sher Shah, built in the middle of the town, is one of the noblest specimens of Pathan architecture in India, is an imposing structure of stone, standing in the middle of a fine tank, and was built towards the middle of sixteenth century. Its height from the floor to the apex of the dome is and its total height above the water is over feet. The octagon forming the tomb has an interior diameter of feet and an exterior diameter of feet.
Of the five described species the siphuncle wall and phragmocone are known only from the genotype Williamsoceras adnatum. The other four are known only from pieces of siphuncle which show only internal configurations, but closely resemble that of the genotype. Williamsoceras is characterized by a ventral process within the siphuncle that extends vertically from the bottom side, essentially bisecting the interior. The process is straight sided and narrow in the more forward part of the siphuncle, approaching the body chamber, and swells to a bulbous or teardrop shape in cross section closer to the apex of the siphuncle where it becomes draped by endocones.
The bridge substruction features two parallel and linear barrel vaults which are separated by a continuously running partition wall. While the uphill entrances of the double tube are on the same level, the exits on the down-valley side are spaced at a interval, leading to a significant difference in length between the western () and the eastern branch (). Due to a later built-in high threshold, parts of the western tube are today silted up.All data: The dimensions of both semi-circular arches are practically identical: the clear spans are each, the rise from the springing line to the apex of the arch and the clearance to ground level measures .
Male genitalia The wingspan is 11–17 mm for males and 11–14 mm for females. The forewings are bright orange yellow or luteous buff, slightly irrorated with brunneous. The base of the costa also brunneous, followed by several small dots of the same colour before the middle of the costa, where a curved broad streak of the same colour arises, and extends to the apex of the wing, having a small pale patch on the costa, the apical portion of the patch more distinctly marked with three or four darker oblique abbreviated dashes, along the apical margin of the wing is also a slender line of brunneous. The hind wings are shining, very pale brown.
These digitations are arranged in an oblique line which runs inferiorly and anteriorly, with the upper digitations being attached close to the cartilages of the corresponding ribs, the lowest to the apex of the cartilage of the last rib, the intermediate ones to the ribs at some distance from their cartilages. The five superior serrations increase in size from above downward, and are received between corresponding processes of the serratus anterior muscle; the three lower ones diminish in size from above downward and receive between them corresponding processes from the latissimus dorsi. From these attachments the fleshy fibers proceed in various directions. Its posterior fibers from the ribs to the iliac crest form a free posterior border.
The Sunday School Building, abutting the church at its east end, is rectangular in plan, measuring 72 feet long and 35 feet 5½ inches wide. The east gable of the south elevation of the church, and facade of the Sunday School Building, is covered with Cleveland greystone and repeats the style and elements of the west gable of the church, but in a manner more appropriate to the school's function. The east gable, 3½ stories tall, is divided into three parts, consisting of a slightly projecting central portion rising to the apex of the gable and flanked by wings. The entire gabled bay is highly fenestrated, not with tracery windows, but with casement windows at each level.
An epicotyl is important for the beginning stages of a plant's life. It is the region of a seedling stem above the stalks of the seed leaves of an embryo plant. It grows rapidly, showing hypogeal germination, and extends the stem above the soil surface. A common misconception is that the epicotyl, being closer to the apex of the plant, is the first part to emerge after germination - rather, the hypocotyl, the region of the stem between the point of attachment of the cotyledons and the root - forms a hook during hypogeal germination and pushes out of the soil, allowing the more delicate tissues of the plumules and apical meristem to avoid damage from pushing through the soil.
The plical and second discal stigmata are moderate, ochreous, edged with black marks above and beneath, the first discal small, black, obliquely beyond the plical. There are thick cloudy ferruginous-blackish oblique fasciate bars from the costa at one-sixth, one-third, the middle, and two-thirds, reaching about half across the wing, the second terminated by the plical stigma, the third shorter but with a more oblique projection reaching to the apex of the fourth, both these terminated by the second discal stigma, the fourth being little oblique. There is a cloudy darker spot on the tornus and an irregular blackish pre-apical blotch. The hindwings are grey.Trans. Ent. Soc. Lond.
The most distinctive feature of the Benty Grange helmet is its boar, affixed to the apex of the helmet. The core of its body is made of two pieces of hollow D-sectioned bronze tubes, their flat sides approximately apart. The space between the two halves was filled in with a substance, likely horn or metal, which has now disintegrated; it perhaps projected upwards, forming the mane or spine of the boar, or, as has been interpreted on the replica, created a recess into which a mane of actual boar bristles could fit. On either side of the bronze core was affixed a plate of iron, forming the visible exterior of the boar.
The wingspan is about 14 mm. The forewings are white, the dorsal half suffused light greyish and with some slight dark grey suffusion towards the dorsum at the base. There is an irregular interrupted oblique dark fuscous line from the costa at one- fourth towards the apex of a suffused triangular dark fuscous blotch on the middle of the dorsum, and a similar streak from the middle of the costa to the apex of a similar pre-tornal blotch, preceded in the disc by a fuscous dash confluent with it. There is a hardly curved slightly interrupted dark fuscous line from the costa at three-fourths to the tornus and there are also six rather large blackish terminal dots.
The oblique arytenoid, the more superficial Arytenoid muscle, forms two fasciculi, which pass from the base of one cartilage to the apex of the opposite one, and therefore cross each other like the limbs of the letter X; a few fibers are continued around the lateral margin of the cartilage, and are prolonged into the aryepiglottic fold; they are sometimes described as a separate muscle, the Aryepiglotticus. The aryepiglottic muscle together with the transverse arytenoid and the thyroarytenoid work as a sphincter and close the larynx as we swallow or cough. Its innervation is by the recurrent laryngeal nerve (from vagus) just like all the intrinsic muscles of the larynx except the cricothyroid muscle.
While highpointing takes its adherents to the apex of dangerous and spectacular mountains, it also leads people to climb much less notable hilltops in pursuit of their goal. An example of this can be found in those who climb the highest point of each U.S. state. This requires ascents not only of Denali and Mount Rainier, two of North America’s most impressive peaks, but also to the tops of such states as Delaware and Rhode Island, where most people would contend there are no actual mountains to climb. The heterogeneous nature of these summits is usually considered part of the appeal, as the travel and cultural experiences en route to the climbs are often valued as highly as the climbs themselves.
The spin polarized scanning tunneling microscope is a versatile instrument which has gained tremendous attention due to its enhanced surface sensitivity and lateral resolution up to atomic scale, and can be used as an important tool to study ferromagnetic materials, such as Dysprosium (Dy), quasi-2D thin films, nano islands and quasi-1D nanowire that have high magnetic anisotropy, etc. In a study carried out by L. Berbil-Bautista et al., the magnetic domain wall or Néel wall of the width 2-5 nm present in these materials is observed by bringing the Chromium (Cr) coated Tungsten tip close to the Dy layer. This causes the transfer of Dy particles from magnetic material on to the apex of the tip.
The forewings are dark fuscous with a moderate white median longitudinal streak from the base to the termen, becoming linear posteriorly. There is a fine white line immediately beneath the costa from near the base to the middle, then running obliquely into the median streak near the termen and there is a white sub-dorsal line from near the base almost to the tornus. A white line is found along the submedian fold posteriorly almost rising out of the median streak. There is also a white somewhat upwards-oblique streak lying between the posterior half of this and the median streak and an oblique white line from the costa about two-thirds to the apex of the median streak, the extremity greyish.
The subfamily rank was re-assessed by Baroni Urbani & de Andrade in 2007, this was the first attempt to include Tatuidris as a terminal taxon in a morphological cladistic analysis. In their study, Baroni Urbani & de Andrade identified morphological synapomorphies shared between Tatuidris and the dacetines, justifying the inclusion of the genus within Myrmicinae. In addition, two autapomorphies (a differently shaped petiolar tergum and sternum, and the eyes at or close to the apex of the antennal scrobe) separated Tatuidris from all other extant ant genera included in their study. Unlike phylogenetic studies based on morphological traits, molecular analyses of the internal phylogeny of the ants have given strong evidence that the armadillo ants are neither closely related to nor nested within the Myrmicinae.
Lift wires ran from this girder to the underside of the wing beyond mid-span and a pair of landing wires on each side were fixed to the apex of a two strut, triangular central cabane or kingpost above the wing. Behind the wing trailing edge and the end of the lower girder the rear fuselage was a tapering, vertically orientated, two bay Warren truss, ending at a vertical cross member which supported the rudder. The triangular tailplane and fin were mounted on the horizontal upper fuselage beam and the straight edged rudder extended down through a cut-out between the elevators to the lower beam. Some Reynards were built with a hinged nacelle to give the pilot better protection from the weather, though still in an open cockpit.
Adornado, who began playing hoops at the age of six, was a legend playing for the then Glowing Goldies of University of Santo Tomas under the tutelage of Rogelio Serafico. At center, he was a consistent ace shooter and did a remarkable sniping job for the Espana-based dribblers in their Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) exploits. In the 1967-68 season which was his rookie year, Adornado led the UST Goldies to the championship against University of the East which ended up with UST and UE being declared co-champions. Adornado's next step to the apex of his amateur career came when he was tapped to serve the RP Youth squad, which saw flawless action in the inaugural Asian Youth Basketball Championship in Seoul, South Korea in 1970.
The façade concealing a narthex that runs the full width of the structure is precisely as wide as its height from the entrance level to the apex of the pediment; it may be fitted with the perfect geometry of the square. The temple front has been converted by Alberti into wall-architecture, as Wittkower noted, and a complete series of pilasters, like pillars embedded in the wall, has been elided to the two outermost, and the two flanking Pellegrino Ardizoni's clumsy doorway,"Ardizoni finished the church to the best of his poor ability... Careless and without imagination, he here copied exactly the frame of the central door which leads from the vestibule into the church" (Wittkower, 1965:50f). which overlaps them and ill suits its space. Inside view.
There is a cloudy greyish-pink band from the middle of the costa to the apex of this blotch, posteriorly margined by a brown line suffused with ferruginous and a curved transverse linear dark fuscous mark in the disc, its lower extremity touching the upper posterior angle of the blotch. There is a dark brown streak, suffused beneath with ferruginous, along the costa from the base, interrupted by a median band, beyond it leaving the costa and continued in a strong outward curve to the anal angle, broader and more suffused anteriorly in the disc, attenuated and nearly obsolete on the anal angle. The curve is posteriorly well defined and margined by a whitish-ochreous line except towards the costa. Beyond this line, the apical area is wholly greyish pink.
There is an inwards-oblique pale yellowish subdorsal strigula preceding a dot on the dorsum before the tornus, just beyond this a somewhat oblique pale yellowish streak reaching half across the wing and an oblique mark from the costa at three-fourths, the gap between these preceded by a short pale yellowish longitudinal mark and a faint whitish dash beneath it. There is also a purplish-leaden angulated transverse streak beyond these, the lower portion thick and resting on the termen, the upper half margined posteriorly by an angulated brown streak sending a branch to the apex of the wing, and the angle connected with the tip of the preceding yellow costal mark by a brown mark. Two oblique white wedge-shaped marks are found posteriorly on the costa partly in the cilia. The hindwings are dark grey.Trans. ent. Soc. Lond.
He entered into conflict with Elena Ceauşescu as head of the national council for scientific research, which he began heading at the end of 1967, resigning from all his posts in December 1968, although he remained on the central committee and the CPEx until the following August. This forced retirement saw colorless apparatchiks appointed in his stead to supervise scientific and technological research, further solidifying Elena's rise to the apex of political power.Vladimir Tismăneanu, "The Tragicomedy of Romanian Communism", in Ferenc Féhér and Andrew Arato (eds.), Crisis and Reform in Eastern Europe, p.153. Transaction Publishers, 1991, With economic experts like him long sidelined, by the late 1970s, the dictator's wife was far more influential than any civil or military official; of her, Bârlădeanu wrote that "hateful vindictiveness, stupidity, nastiness, insensitivity and brazenness" were her "most obvious" negative qualities.
The wingspan is 29–33 mm. The forewings are yellow, closely marbled crimson or orange throughout and with some irregular dark brown spotting on the costal half of the basal area. The discal stigmata are black, yellow circled, with a similar dot obliquely before and above the first and an irregular dark brown streak sprinkled blackish along the dorsum throughout, as well as a thick irregular streak rising from the middle of this and running to the apex of the wing, receiving oblique streaks from the costa at one-third and beyond the middle which are connected by a bar above the middle so as to enclose a space centred by the second discal stigma, in females more rounded and suffused whitish. There is an angulated subterminal series of small dark brown spots, on the dorsal half sometimes confluent with preceding markings.
In Bhutan; the branches shown are covered with epiphytes The beautiful nuthatch forages alone, in pairs or in small groups of four to five individuals, though an unusual gathering of 21 individuals was observed in one tree in Bhutan. It often takes part in mixed- species foraging flocks, and has been notably observed feeding with the Himalayan cutia (Cutia nipalensis) and the velvet-fronted nuthatch (Sitta frontalis) – two other species that prospect for food on tree trunks. Other foraging flock partners surveyed are the long-tailed broadbill (Psarisomus dalhousiae), the lesser racket-tailed drongo (Dicrurus remifer), the maroon oriole (Oriolus traillii) and the white-browed scimitar babbler (Pomatorhinus schisticeps). S. formosa forages from about the middle to the apex of tall trees, exploring the trunks and epiphyte-covered branches (lichens, mosses, orchids), for small insects, but also prospect on outermost branches.
The wingspan is about 13 mm. The forewings are leaden grey with a rather oblique violet-golden-metallic streak from the costa at one-third, edged with black on both sides, more broadly towards the costa anteriorly, almost meeting a similar erect streak from the dorsum in the middle, edged black anteriorly. Beyond these is a broad brownish-ochreous transverse band dilated towards the costa, limited posteriorly by an inwards-oblique pale yellowish black-edged mark from the costa at four-fifths and an erect violet-golden-metallic streak from the dorsum at four-fifths. A rather down-curved light blue-grey line connects the apices of the two dorsal streaks and from the apex of the yellowish mark, a violet-golden-metallic line runs to the apex of a rather oblique blue-grey fasciate streak from the middle of the costa.
The hand-built two-door 300 S (W188) was Mercedes-Benz's top-end vehicle on its introduction at the Paris Salon in October 1951. It was available as a 2-seat roadster, 2+2 coupé, and cabriolet (with landau bars, officially Cabriolet A). Although mechanically similar to the much larger contemporary four-door 300 (W186), the additional craftsmanship, visual elegance, and 50% higher price tag elevated the W188 to the apex of its era's luxury cars. The 300 S was fitted with a high-performance version of the W186's 3.0 L (2996 cc/182 in³) overhead cam, aluminum head M186 straight-6, the M188. Designed to give reliable service under prolonged hard use, the engine featured deep water jackets, an innovative diagonal head-to-block joint that allowed for oversized intake and exhaust valves, thermostatically controlled oil cooling, copper-lead bearings, and a hardened crankshaft.
The wingspan is 21–23 mm. The forewings are white with the base of the costa narrowly fuscous and with three triangular fuscous costal spots, one at the basal third, one near the middle, and one at the apical fourth. From the outer corner of the apical spot a row of fuscous dots extends from the apex along the termen to the tornus and there is a black spot at the base of the cell from which a wide band of olivaceous brown extends to the inner angle. From the apex of the middle costal spot an irregular patch of grey extends transversely around the basal spot to the inner margin and there is a crescent-shaped olivaceous-brown spot at the end of the cell, as well as an irregular patch of grey, shaded with olivaceous brown, extending from the tornus to the apex of the apical costal spot.
Manuel Fidel Torres Félix (; 28 February 1958 – 13 October 2012), also known as El M1 and/or El Ondeado, was a suspected Mexican drug lord and high-ranking leader of a cell within the Sinaloa Cartel. Born in a small town in the state of Sinaloa, Torres Félix began working for the Sinaloa Cartel in the 1990s and later ascended to the apex of the cartel after his brother Javier Torres Félix was arrested in 2004. He then began to work with Ovidio Guzmán López, the son of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, Mexico's most-wanted man, and oversaw drug trafficking shipments coming in from South America into Mexico under the tutelage of Ismael Zambada García. When his son was killed by rival gang members of the Beltrán-Leyva Cartel in 2008, Torres Félix reportedly lost his mind and went on a killing spree, torturing the perpetrators at his home in Culiacán.
The forewings are violet grey, on the costal half anteriorly suffused with sky blue and with the extreme costal edge whitish. There are subcostal, median, and plical orange lines from the base to near the middle, and a line from the base of the median to the apex of the subcostal. These are terminated by an angulated dark grey bar in the middle of the disc, edged with orange and pale ochreous suffusion. The posterior area from near beyond this is light ochreous suffused with orange in the disc, towards the dorsum anteriorly forming streaks on the veins and tinged crimson, including a dark ferruginous dot on the end of the cell, two short oblique dark grey marks from the costa before and beyond three-fourths and one just above the apex, a deep ferruginous transverse line at seven-eighths edged anteriorly by white marks below the costa and below the middle, and limiting a deep ferruginous blotch extending along the termen, becoming purplish towards its middle.
Rushing through dozens of Haunted, Kidman is able to get in an elevator that leads up to the apex of Beacon where the Mobius facility is, as the Administrator taunts Kidman, explaining that STEM was built on the premise of fear as a way to control individuals, with the true purpose of her mission serving as a test run for the Administrator's new method of infused control. Having finally broken out of his influence, she eventually faces the Administrator, who makes a final attempt to end Kidman but is defeated, who then remarks how he'll always be a part of Kidman before being shot. Awakening in the real world, Kidman sees Leslie emerge from a STEM terminal and being taken away along with Joseph, as well as the vessel that housed Ruvik's brain now empty, much to her confusion. A woman then calls out to Kidman from behind, who is revealed as Myra (Tasia Valenza), Sebastian's wife.
Above this is a slender, oblique, detached white streaklet, and an outwardly oblique white costal streak, more or less connected by scattered whitish scales at its apex with the apex of the median streak, and again to the apex of a similar streak a little above the dorsum. At four-fifths is a second, short, straight white costal streak, loosely connected by scattered scales, at its apex, with a striated patch above the tornus, in which they form the upper of a series of three short longitudinal white streaks, bounded before and behind by a whitish line. On the costa at the apex are two converging wedge-shaped white streaks, divided by a dark brown line, which is continued along the termen to the tornus. The outer of these is wider than the inner, and forms the base of the caudate apical extension of the cilia which are bronzy brown beyond it, those on the termen below being bright rosy, iridescent, brassy metallic.
This work was the first attempt to include Tatuidris as a terminal taxon in a morphological cladistic analysis. In their study, Baroni Urbani & de Andrade (2007) identified six morphological synapomorphies shared between Tatuidris and the dacetines, justifying the inclusion of the genus within Myrmicinae. These characters included: # mandibles at rest opposing at least in part, instead of crossing # a mandibular-torular index < 130 # reduction of maxillary palps from double-jointed to single-jointed # reduced male mandibles # presence of a two-segmented antennal club # reduced number of antennal joints In addition, two autapomorphies (a differently shaped petiolar tergum and sternum, and the eyes at or close to the apex of the antennal scrobe) separated Tatuidris from all other extant ant genera included in their study. Unlike phylogenetic studies based on morphological traits, molecular analyses of the internal phylogeny of the ants have given strong evidence that the armadillo ants are neither closely related to nor nested within the Myrmicinae.
The forewings are orange yellow with a fuscous streak edged with red rising very obliquely from the base of the costa, gradually expanded to the disc where it occupies the median third of the length of the wing, then broadly dilated to the dorsum, where it extends from near the base to the tornus. The basal area is enclosed by this marked with a short red mark on the base of the dorsum, a short line on the base of the fold, and two others beyond this above and below the fold. There is a rather dark fuscous red-edged elongate pointed patch touching the preceding dark area in the middle of the disc and extending to the apex of the wing, its anterior portion broadly expanded to near the costa. The hindwings are whitish, tinged with yellowish towards the apex, with some pale rosy suffusion in the middle of the disc.
Button scored the car's first points in Monaco, with an eighth-place finish. He later attributed the result to having confidence in the car, noting that he could raise the ride height at the front end of the car and brake heavily without locking the brakes or bottoming out and hitting the road, but without compromising the performance of the car when turning in to the apex of a corner. However, in the following races in Canada and Austria, the team's struggles came to a head as they were forced to reduce the power output of the engine to levels that had not been used since Australia, and could not therefore provide a competitive package for the long straights and slow corners of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Red Bull Ring. In addition, with their arrival in Austria, both Button and Alonso had used up their quota of engine components for the season, which combined with unscheduled gearbox changes, resulted in both drivers receiving twenty-five place grid penalties.
