The Swisser is a Caroline era stage play, a tragicomedy written by Arthur Wilson. It was performed by the King's Men in the Blackfriars Theatre in 1631, and is notable for the light in throws on the workings of the premier acting company of its time. (In seventeenth-century parlance, "Swisser," or "Swizzer" or "Switzer," referred to a Swiss mercenary soldier.) Though Humphrey Moseley entered the play into the Stationers' Register on 4 September 1646, no edition of the drama was printed in the seventeenth century. The play remained in manuscript until it was published in the early 1900s.
A passing pattern is a sequence of throws and catches using a certain number of props which is repeated continuously. An example would be the standard 6 club passing pattern between two jugglers with the throws on a two count tempo. Passing patterns, however, vary in complexity from the simple: where only two jugglers pass three objects (usually three clubs which is called 'running three'), to many jugglers passing numerous clubs in complex patterns. Patterns differ from tricks which are instead a throw or catch which is different to the throws and catches within a pattern.
A few days later in Dikanka there is a new murder: Baba Khavronya dies right in the middle of a tryst with the priest, her lover. He raves about a pig's head and a red scroll, the symbol of conjugal infidelity, which, according to the folk lore, the devil throws on the threshold. The murder was arranged as if the Dark Horseman had done it, but during a seizure Gogol paints a linden leaf (in Russian, a "linden" is slang for a fake). After waking, he immediately notices that the sign of the Horseman is drawn with an error.
Once the fouling team enters the penalty situation, the fouled team is awarded free throws. The typical NBA player makes a high enough percentage of his free throws that, over time, opponents' possessions that end with free throws will yield more points than possessions in which the opponents try to score a field goal. Even the highest-scoring NBA teams average only about 1.1 points per possession.Phoenix Suns 2005–2006 Season Statistics Giving such a team two free throws on each possession, the poorest free throw shooting teams make around 70% of their free throws and would score 1.4 points per possession.
On December 15, 2014, Korver passed Jason Richardson for 15th all- time in three-pointers made. Five days later, in the Hawks' 104–97 win over the Houston Rockets, Korver scored a game-high 22 points and made all four of his free-throw attempts. This gave him 49 consecutive made free-throws on the season to set a new Hawks franchise record. The streak ended at 50 in the Hawks' next game against the Dallas Mavericks. On February 10, 2015, Korver received his first NBA All-Star selection as a reserve for the Eastern Conference in the 2015 NBA All-Star Game, replacing the injured Dwyane Wade.
He enjoyed unparalleled success with the Lightning. The CBA named Powell the Rookie of the Year for the 2005-06 season, voted on by the eight CBA head coaches. Powell continued to pursue a career in the NBA trying out for the Utah Jazz where he was reunited with former Illini teammates Dee Brown and Deron Williams. After working relentlessly over the summer, Powell made the Jazz's final roster for the 2006-07 NBA season. However, he was cut in mid- January, having scored his first points in the NBA with a pair of free throws on November 18, 2006 against the Phoenix Suns after being fouled by Shawn Marion.
Ateneo came up empty again on their next play, then Kramer fouled June Dizon on UST's possession. Dizon, though, missed both free throws, and Escalona hit another three, giving him 26 points and the Eagles their first lead of the period. Duncil answered right away with a jumper to tie the game again, then after Intal turned the ball over on Ateneo's next possession, Cuan was fouled anew, and once again split his free throws. On the Eagles next possession, Escalona faked his defender into the air then drove into the lane for a difficult lay-up to give the Eagles back the lead, 69–68.
Repeated incidents can result in disqualification. A blatant foul involving physical contact that is either excessive or unnecessary is called an intentional foul (flagrant foul in the NBA). In FIBA and NCAA women's basketball, a foul resulting in ejection is called a disqualifying foul, while in leagues other than the NBA, such a foul is referred to as flagrant. If a team exceeds a certain limit of team fouls in a given period (quarter or half) – four for NBA, NCAA women's, and international games – the opposing team is awarded one or two free throws on all subsequent non-shooting fouls for that period, the number depending on the league.
In the US college men's game and high school games for both sexes, if a team reaches 7 fouls in a half, the opposing team is awarded one free throw, along with a second shot if the first is made. This is called shooting "one-and-one". If a team exceeds 10 fouls in the half, the opposing team is awarded two free throws on all subsequent fouls for the half. When a team shoots foul shots, the opponents may not interfere with the shooter, nor may they try to regain possession until the last or potentially last free throw is in the air.
Hickson was selected with 19th overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. On July 10, 2008, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Cavaliers. He went on to score four points in his NBA debut against the Charlotte Bobcats, making one field goal and two free throws. On November 26, 2008, he had career-highs with 14 points, six rebounds and four blocks against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Hickson surpassed his career-high by grabbing seven rebounds on January 13, 2009 against the Memphis Grizzlies. Then on February 24, 2009, he surpassed his previous career-high of 7 rebounds to 9 rebounds against the Grizzlies.
Meanwhile, Yego fouled his first attempt and his 82.45 only had him in 5th place and highly vulnerable to not making the top 8 after three throws, the requirement to get three more throws. On his third throw, he launched a 92.72. Not only did the throw put him in the lead, it was a new African record and the farthest throw in the world in 14 years, since world record holder Jan Železný threw 92.80 to win this championship in 2001, near the end of his top throwing days. It made Yego the third farthest thrower in the history of the contemporary javelin.
The three outfielders, left fielder, center fielder, and right fielder, are so named from the catcher's perspective looking out onto the field. The right fielder generally has the strongest arm of all the outfielders due to the need to make throws on runners attempting to take third base. The center fielder has more territory to cover than the corner outfielders, so this player must be quick and agile with a strong arm to throw balls into the infield; as with the shortstop, teams tend to emphasize defense at this position. Also, the center fielder is considered the outfield leader, and left- and right-fielders often cede to his direction when fielding fly balls.
Nelson first used the strategy against Dennis Rodman of the Chicago Bulls in 1997, who was making 38% of his free throws on the season. He could not use the strategy on every Bulls possession, as a player committing his sixth foul is disqualified from the game. He used the strategy selectively, and chose a little-used player, whose absence the team could tolerate, to commit the fouls. He believed that Rodman's horrific foul shooting would result in the Mavericks actually giving up fewer total points during those Bulls possessions than they would give up by playing a standard defense against the Bulls' efficient offense, led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
The blurb to the first edition described some of the essays as being "among the very few attempts that have been made in England to study popular art seriously". Orwell thought seemingly frivolous popular culture, such as crime fiction, comic postcards, and the Billy Bunter stories, to be worth studying for the light it throws on contemporary attitudes. Applying this approach to the subjects considered in Critical Essays he tended to find that they showed the innovations of his own time to be harsh and unfeeling compared to the old-fashioned humanity of traditional popular forms. Another theme is that of literary style, which Orwell thought to be the inevitable result of its writer's world-view and the message he wanted to get across.
Chet Martin introduces the show with the prospect of sibling envy. We then transfer to ancient Egypt, where Aaron is riding a camel in the middle of a desert, where he sings with excitement about being chosen by God to give his message to the pharaoh of Egypt. After his song, Moses, Aaron's brother, runs across the desert to tell him that God spoke to him through a burning bush and told him to speak to the pharaoh and bring Aaron with him. Aaron, feeling that he should have been God's messenger, asks how they can prove to the pharaoh that he spoke to God, which Moses answers with a stick that he throws on the ground that transforms into a snake.
With Dulles's agenda exposed to the media, the US plans a battle to demonstrate their superiority, but Yu obtains this information from Park Mu. The Americans fail to get more reinforcements from their European allies and are defeated by a well prepared North Korean army, Yu continues to gather intelligence on General Sin's coup attempt, this time passing messages back to Pyongyang by way of a radio operator disguised as a disabled veteran who begs outside hotels. Yu hides messages in cigarette filters, which he then throws on the ground near the beggar. However, he is unaware that he is being followed by the CIC, who are filming his activities. Colonel Klaus hears about a North Korean spy disguised as a veteran, and begins reviewing video tapes to check on Yu's activities.
Lakers reserve Lamar Odom made a tip shot to make the score 57–53 at the end of the quarter. The Lakers' fortunes rode high midway through the fourth quarter as Fisher sunk a three-point field goal from 26-feet to tie the game at 64. Despite having a poor night offensively, Bryant hit two free throws and followed through with a 17-foot shot to give the Lakers a 68–64 lead, the team's first lead since early in the second quarter. Gasol hit two more free throws on a Garnett foul to extend that margin to six. The Celtics would not give up, however, as with Lakers leading by 6 with a minute-and-a-half remaining, Wallace hit a three-pointer to cut the Lakers' lead to 76–73.
To block balls that a pitcher throws on a bounce toward home plate (pitches that are said to be "in the dirt"), the catcher will slide his body to the left or right, as necessary, to place himself directly in the path of the ball. Once in position, he drops to his knees, places his mitt between his legs to prevent the ball from passing through, and leans forward to deaden the rebound when, and if, the ball bounces off his thigh or torso. Although inexperienced catchers may try to catch the errant pitch with his mitt, coaches often prioritize the catcher's ability to "keep the ball in front of him" than to make a catch with his mitt. Ideally, the catcher will be able to knock the ball to the ground where it will stop within arm's reach.
Gottfried Leibniz Leibniz studied binary numbering in 1679; his work appears in his article Explication de l'Arithmétique Binaire (published in 1703). The full title of Leibniz's article is translated into English as the "Explanation of Binary Arithmetic, which uses only the characters 1 and 0, with some remarks on its usefulness, and on the light it throws on the ancient Chinese figures of Fu Xi".Leibniz G., Explication de l'Arithmétique Binaire, Die Mathematische Schriften, ed. C. Gerhardt, Berlin 1879, vol.7, p.223; Engl. transl. Leibniz's system uses 0 and 1, like the modern binary numeral system. An example of Leibniz's binary numeral system is as follows: : 0 0 0 1 numerical value 20 : 0 0 1 0 numerical value 21 : 0 1 0 0 numerical value 22 : 1 0 0 0 numerical value 23 Leibniz interpreted the hexagrams of the I Ching as evidence of binary calculus.
On November 14, he played for Sioux Falls against the Austin Spurs, tallying 20 points and 9 assists in a 119-118 loss. Walton was called up several times thereafter: November 19-22, November 25-27, November 28-30, and December 15-. Walton converted 2 free throws on November 19 against the Indiana Pacers, and he posted his first NBA field goal (a three-point shot) on December 18 against the Atlanta Hawks. By December 19, he had used 22 of his 45 allowed NBA days while the Heat roster was enduring 6 concurrent injuries. On December 22, Walton received his first meaningful action. With Hassan Whiteside, James Johnson, Rodney McGruder, Justise Winslow, Okaro White and Goran Dragic already sidelined, the Heat lost Dion Waiters to injury in the first quarter against the Dallas Mavericks and Walton was on the floor for nearly 24 minutes and contributed seven points, with five assists and zero turnovers as well as noticeable defensive efforts.
Eleanor Roosevelt (here, speaking at the United Nations in July 1947), invited Calomiris to her radio talk show The defendants in the Foley Square trial were convicted on October 13, 1949, and Calomiris became a minor celebrity as the result of her role in the proceedings. She capitalized on the fame by writing an autobiography, Red Masquerade: Undercover for the FBI, which was published by Lippincott in 1950. George Scharsburg of the Chicago Daily Tribune wrote that the book was "well worth reading" and A.H. Raskin of The New York Times praised it for being "as interesting for its insight into the problems that best a Government 'plant' in the party as it is for the light it throws on the jealousies, personal intrigues and divisions that exist behind the party's monolithic facade", but Richard Donnelly criticized the book in The Yale Law Journal for being "rather pretentious". After the publication of her book, Calomiris went on a number of talk radio shows, appearing most notably on former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt's show on NBC, Today with Mrs.
He scored 22 points in the first quarter and finished 10 of 16 from the field and 14 of 17 on free throws. On December 25, 2017, he had a game-high 31 points and a season-best 18 rebounds in a 99–92 loss to the Golden State Warriors. On January 30, 2018, Love left the Cavaliers' game against the Detroit Pistons with a fracture in his left hand. He missed six weeks and 21 games with the injury, returning to action on March 19 against the Bucks. He scored 18 points in 25 minutes in a 124–117 win. Two days later, he recorded 23 points and 12 rebounds in a 132–129 win over the Toronto Raptors. He knocked down his 1,000th career 3-pointer during the game. On April 1, 2018, he recorded his 400th career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds in a 98–87 win over the Dallas Mavericks. In Game 2 of the Cavaliers' second-round playoff series against the Raptors, Love had his best game of the postseason with 31 points and 11 rebounds in a 128–110 win, helping Cleveland take a 2–0 lead in the series.
The day before, Love was not selected as an All-Star as a reserve although averaging 21.4 points, a league-best 15.5 rebounds, shooting 43.9 percent from 3-point range, and having 34 straight double-doubles for the 11–37 Timberwolves. On February 8, Love set a team record (previously held by Kevin Garnett) with his 38th consecutive double- double after scoring 20 points and recording 14 rebounds in the Timberwolves' 112–108 win over the Houston Rockets. He scored 37 points and had 23 rebounds on February 27 in a 126–123 win over the Golden State Warriors. It was his fourth 30-point, 20-rebound game of the season, and Love went 18 for 23 from the free throw line to tie Minnesota's team records for made and attempted free throws. On March 13, Love's consecutive double-double streak ended at 53 games in a loss to the Golden State Warriors. It was the longest streak since the ABA–NBA merger in 1976, surpassing Malone's 51-game streak from 1979 to 1980. Love was two short of Elvin Hayes's streak of 55 consecutive double- doubles set in the 1973–74 season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Wilt Chamberlain holds the record with 227 consecutive double-doubles from 1964 to 1967.
In February 2010 Singler scored a career-high 30 points against Georgia Tech, hitting a career-high 8 three-pointers in 10 attempts. In the ACC Tournament Final (playing Georgia Tech again), he hit a career-high 14 free throws. On March 28, 2010, in an Elite Eight NCAA game, as Duke beat Baylor and advanced to the Final Four, Singler (667 points), Jon Scheyer (690 points), and Nolan Smith (628 points) became the second trio in the history of the school to score at least 600 points each in the same season. Jason Williams, Carlos Boozer, and Mike Dunleavy, Jr. first accomplished that feat for Duke in 2001–02. Singler scored 19 points in the national championship game to reach 707 for the season, joining Scheyer (728) as the two became the second duo in Duke history to each score over 700 points in one season, following in the footsteps of Jason Williams (841) and Shane Battier (778), who did so for Duke's 2001 national championship team. Through the 2009–10 season, Singler was also 6th on Duke's all-time list in offensive rebounds (272), and 7th in defensive rebounds (490). For the season he averaged 17.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He was 3rd in the ACC in 3-point field goal percentage (.
After graduating high school in 1987, Eubanks chose to play for Sullivan College of Technology and Design, that competed in the Kentucky Junior College Athletic Conference. During his time at Sullivan he had several games where he scored 20 or more points, especially in his sophomore season. On December 17, 1987 he scored 42 points against Aquinas Junior College. On December 2, 1988 he scored a then career-best and Sullivan school record 47 points against Edison State on 18/24 shooting (6/10 on three- pointers) and 5/6 on free throws. On January 7, 1989 against Cuyahoga he scored a career-high 48 points (beating his previous record), shooting 17/24 from the field (7/13 from three) and 7/8 on free throws. He also recorded 8 rebounds in the game. After two years at Sullivan Eubanks committed to Division I school Marshall; however, after coach Rick Huckabay left before the start of the 1989–90 season, being replaced by Dana Altman, he reconsidered his choice. He quit the team in late November 1989 and transferred to Tennessee State: as a result, he had to sit out the entire season, and he was not eligible to play until December 15, 1990. He debuted for the Tigers scoring 30 points on December 17, 1990 against Ohio State.
