Dezhou braised chicken Dezhou braised chicken is a traditional dish from Dezhou City, Shandong Province and it is named after its place of origin. When the Qianlong Emperor travelled to Dezhou City, a Han Chinese family made braised chicken for him. The emperor thought highly of this dish and praised it as "a wonder of all cuisine". After eating Dezhou braised chicken, the Qianlong Emperor ordered that this dish be included in the menu of imperial cuisine.

In 1841, a new Master of the Mint, William Ewart Gladstone was appointed. Gladstone thought highly of Pistrucci and corresponded with him in Italian, but was unwilling to grant him any new commissions while the Waterloo Medal remained outstanding. By 1844, the continued expense of Pistrucci was a concern to the Audit Office. Gladstone restored cuts in Pistrucci's pay that had been made for failure to train an apprentice, and offered him a bonus of £400 to complete the medal.

He emigrated to Spain toward the end of the 13th century, probably in consequence of the cruel persecutions to which the Jews of Germany were subjected at that time, when many were driven to seek asylum in other countries. In Spain, where he was called "Ashkenazi" (German), he met the foremost rabbinical authorities, who thought highly of him.

In 1910, a loose association of alumni of the prestigious Gakushuin Peer’s School in Tokyo began a literary society. Members included writers, artists, literary critics and others who rejected Confucianism and the strictures of traditional Japanese literary and artistic styles. In particular, the group emphasized idealism, humanism and individualism, over the naturalism that had been the dominant trend in Japanese literature of the Taishō period. The Shirakaba-ha thought highly of Western aesthetics (particularly Expressionism and Post- Impressionism), and considered their mission to spread the ideas of Western art and Western literature into Japan.

He had also been mentioned in despatches on three occasions during the course of the war.

The historian Sima Qian, who wrote Xiang Yu's biography in the Records of the Grand Historian, described Xiang as someone who boasted about his achievements and thought highly of himself. Xiang Yu preferred to depend on his personal abilities as opposed to learning with humility from others before him. Sima Qian thought that Xiang Yu had failed to see his own shortcomings and to make attempts to correct his mistakes, even until his death. Sima Qian thought that it was ridiculous when Xiang Yu claimed that his downfall was due to Heaven's will and not his personal failure.

Despite Ban Biao's status as a well-known historian, Ban Chao's family was poor and he worked as a copy-clerk for the government. Emperor Ming himself thought highly of him, and appointed him to be a clerk in the orchid terrace, but Ban Chao was too ambitious to be satisfied with a position like that, and was dismissed later. He was said to be a strong willed young adult with complete disregard for formal conduct. After his brother Ban Gu was removed from his post for his works on the Former Han, Ban Chao argued his case.

The latter thought highly of the musical's lyricism, and invited him to write an English version of a French musical Les Misérables (by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg). Kretzmer's lyrics extended the two-hour Paris original into a three-hour show. Ji Yan (died 224), courtesy name Zixiu, was an official of the state of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period of China. An impulsive and impetuous man, he thought highly of himself and liked to assume the moral high ground to criticise and disparage others. While serving in the selection bureau (the equivalent of a present-day human resources department), he came up with radical ideas to reform the bureaucracy by demoting or dismissing officials based on assessments of their moral character. His ideas proved to be highly unpopular as he incurred much resentment from his colleagues, who accused him of being unprofessional and biased.

In 1825, the Creek Nation retained two young Cherokee men to serve as their lobbyists in Washington, D.C. during the debates over the removal of the Creeks from the southeastern U. S. This was because there were no Creeks who spoke fluent English at the time. The Creeks also knew that Andrew Jackson thought highly of Major Ridge, who had served with him in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. The men, recommended by Major Ridge were John Ridge and David Vann. Since President John Quincy Adams would not negotiate with Cherokees regarding Creek affairs, they were officially designated as secretaries to the Creek delegation.

The theatre was forced to close due to financial difficulties in June 1935, and has remained so ever since. He was intermittently involved in theatre production after this, and in 1952 won the Arts Council Silver Medal for his play Leap in September. In 1930, Macleod had his first book of poetry published, The Ecliptic, a highly complex book of verse divided into the signs of the zodiac, which was helped through to publication at Faber and Faber through a recommendation from Ezra Pound, who thought highly of Macleod's abilities as a poet. A long-running correspondence was thus begun between the two poets.

"The Party Song" was inspired by when Hoppus attended a "jock-infested" party at San Diego State University and met some students who thought highly of themselves. Disinterested in the party, he felt he would much rather be at home, which found its way into the song's lyrics.

Nicholas II still thought highly of Gripenberg, and on 30 April 1905 appointed him Inspector General of the Infantry on 28 June 1905, and as a member of the State Council. As Inspector General, he developed a new manual for shooting, but on 23 March 1906, frustrated by health, he resigned from active service, but remained on the State Councilor nominally as General- Adjutant. He spent his final days in continuing his campaign against Kuropatkin in the newspapers, pamphlets and books, blaming him for the Russian defeat at the Battle of Mukden and for the loss of the war in general. He died on 25 December 1915 in Petrograd and was buried in the Tsarskoselsky Cemetery.

On 6 February 1901, Smith-Dorrien's troops were attacked in the Battle of Chrissiesmeer. Smith- Dorrien's qualities as a commander meant he was one of few British commanders to enhance his reputation during this war. Smith-Dorrien was mentioned three times in despatches in the London Gazette (including by Lord Kitchener dated 23 June 1902), and Ian Hamilton later wrote highly of his performance and his grasp of the men's morale, whilst Roberts also thought highly of his South Africa performance. He was at the top of a list (21 September 1901) of eighteen successful commanders of columns or groups of columns, including Haig and Allenby, whom French commended to Lord Roberts.

Federal troops sent by President Grant were required to restore order. Longstreet's use of armed black troops during the disturbances increased the denunciations by anti-Reconstructionist and former Southern Confederates. At the same time, Longstreet became popular with Northerners, who thought highly of his support for Reconstruction and praise for General Grant. Throughout the 1880s and 1890s, Longstreet often gave speeches in the North, many of them in the presence of Union veterans, and he was received favorably. James Longstreet in later life (1896), affecting the sideburns of his opponent at Fredericksburg and Knoxville In 1875, the Longstreet family left New Orleans with concerns over health and safety, returning to Gainesville, Georgia.

The play may not have been to southern audiences' tastes—the plot centres on a northern family's holiday in Blackpool—and the Brighton audiences may have been too small, but those in the north, particularly Blackpool, thought highly of it and the show was a nightly sell-out. Scott consulted Terry on literary questions, especially on plays, and seems to have trusted him with the Doom of Devorgoil, with a view to adapting it for the stage. How many of the numerous stage adaptations of Scott that saw the light between the appearance of Waverley and the death of the actor are by Terry cannot be said, many of them being anonymous and unprinted. Terry was almost as well known in Edinburgh as in London, and Scott thought highly of his acting. Terry's idolatry of Scott led him to imitate both his manner and his calligraphy. His eldest brother, Dean Robinson, was a doctor and had become addicted to laudanum while medicating himself for neuralgia. The middle brother, Herman, a handsome and charismatic man, married the woman Edwin loved, Emma Löehen Shepherd. Emma thought highly of Edwin and encouraged his poetry, but he was deemed too young to be in realistic competition for her hand, which didn't keep him from being rattled deeply by witnessing what he considered her being bamboozled by Herman's charm and choosing shallowness over depth.

The ancient Greeks thought highly of cardamom, and the Greek physicians Dioscorides and Hippocrates wrote about its therapeutic properties, identifying it as a digestive aid. Chen was said to be a descendant of the legendary sage king Emperor Shun. His father Efu (閼父) served as taozheng (陶正), the official in charge of the manufacture of pottery, for the Zhou state. King Wu of Zhou thought highly of Efu, and gave his eldest daughter, Da Ji (大姬), to Efu's son Man in marriage. After King Wu conquered the Shang dynasty to establish the Zhou dynasty in 1046/45 BC, he enfeoffed the descendants of three ancient sage kings in the newly conquered land, known as the San Ke (三恪, "Three Reverent States"), and Man was enfeoffed at the state of Chen, with its capital at Wanqiu, in modern Huaiyang County, Henan Province.

Moving to the command of VIII Corps, under Lieutenant General Harold Franklyn, in early September, the division transferred to V Corps in late November, upon the request of the corps commander, Lieutenant General Montgomery. The division then spent most of 1941 under V Corps (from April commanded by Lieutenant General Edmond Schreiber) training in its counterattack role to repel an invasion. In late November 1941, after handing over the 3rd Division to Major General Eric Hayes, Gammell moved on to be GOC XII Corps with the acting rank of lieutenant general, in December (made temporary the following year), again succeeding Bernard Montgomery, who was being promoted to command the South-Eastern Command and thought highly of his successor, believing Gammell to be "young and virile".

Chaderton thought highly of Preston, but was very reluctant to resign, and doubted whether, if he did, an Arminian might not be appointed. As depicted in Half Portraits of the Great Sage and Virtuous Men of Old (至聖先賢半身像), housed in the National Palace Museum Ran Yong (; 522 BC – ?), also known by his courtesy name Zhonggong (), was one of the prominent disciples of Confucius. Confucius thought highly of his excellent moral conduct, and considered him fit to be the ruler of a state. After completing school, he served as chief officer of Jisun, the noble clan that dominated the politics of Lu. Ran Yong was a native of the State of Lu. He was 29 years younger than Confucius, and was from the same clan as Ran Geng and Ran Qiu, two other prominent disciples of Confucius. He was of the same age as Ran Qiu.

The reviewer also enjoyed the development of Dick's character that occurred with the return of his father, stating that the scene in which Dick yelled at his father "an excellent moment that helped bring a lot of new shading to the funny, but usually one-note character." Keith's storyline was another center of praise, with the reviewer stating that he thought the Fitzpatricks' plot line had been too rushed earlier in the season. Tanner Stransky of Entertainment Weekly was generally positive as well, noting the romantic uncertainty between Veronica and Piz, Logan and Parker, and Mac and Max, drawing parallels between this aspect of the episode and the series' uncertain future. Born in London, he was educated at St Paul's School, London and at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he displayed exceptional ability as a classical scholar, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in 1828; later graduating with a master of arts in 1831 and doctor of divinity in 1861. The next few days saw desperate fighting by scattered American, British and German units, but the Allied lines just managed to hold and stabilise their lines. On 17 February Penney, just returned to his caravan HQ after visiting the frontlines, was hit in the back by shellfire and evacuated to the rear. Alexander, who thought highly of Penney and was unwilling to lose him, ordered Major General Gerald Templer, GOC of the newly arrived 56th (London) Infantry Division, and who Penney had succeeded as GOC of the 1st Division, to assume command of both divisions temporarily until Penney was sufficiently recovered to resume his command. Penney returned on 23 February, his wounds being deemed to be minor, although it was to effect him for the rest of his life, forcing his early retirement.

In 1987, he assumed the manager of the Taiyo Whales, which was another Japanese professional baseball team, on a five-year contract because he was thought highly of as a result of his work with the Carp. However, he retired from the post at the end of the season of 1989 because he could not bring the team to the top-class. The 873 wins as a manager put him into the 14th place of the ranking table for all the managers of Japanese professional baseball teams.

Walker was in almost constant attendance on King Charles I during the Civil War as Clerk Extraordinary of the Privy Council, Secretary to the Council of War, Receiver General of the King's Moneys and Secretary for War. In 1635, Walker was made Blanch Lyon Pursuivant Extraordinary, in 1637 Rouge Croix Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary, in 1638 Chester Herald of Arms in Ordinary, in 1644 Norroy King of Arms, and in 1645 Garter Principal King of Arms, so that within less than eight years of entering the College of Arms he had attained the highest post. His appointment as Garter followed shortly on his appointment as Secretary for War and Clerk Extraordinary of the Council, so that it is plain that Charles I thought highly of his abilities.

These included a student 24 work-in led by George Robertson in 1968, student occupations of the University Tower Building in 1971 and 1974, a student rent strike in 1973 (which Drever initially seemed to not only support, but to encourage) and various smaller protests. Drever gave support to some of these protests and in 1969 actually encouraged students to oppose a planned visit to the University by Enoch Powell. Drever's stance on Powell attracted media attention, with the Glasgow Herald comparing his actions to that of a 'gamekeeper-turned-poacher'. While the aftermath of the 1973 rent strike, which saw the suspension of the Dundee University Students' Association's constitution by the University Court and threats to sue some of the strikers, caused some students to express a degree of ill- feeling towards Drever, others thought highly of him.

Leicester, who thought highly of his military abilities, created him marshal of the army, so giving great offence to Sir John Norris and his brother Sir Edward Norris. As for Pelham, he shared Leicester's prejudices against the Norrises, and at a drinking bout on 6 August at Count Hohenlohe's quarters at Geertruidenberg, he was the cause of a brawl which nearly cost Sir Edward Norris his life. A few days later, while inspecting the trenches before Doesburg in company with Leicester, he was wounded by a shot in the stomach; the wound did not prove immediately fatal. He was able to take part in the fight at Zutphen, and, according to Fulke Greville, it was the desire to emulate him that made Sir Philip Sidney lay aside his cuisses and so to receive the wound that caused his death.

The Lumiere aeroplane company was set up by Louis de Monge, a Belgian engineer living in Paris, to design aircraft. Guyot worked on the company’s small twin-engine aircraft, launched in 1924, although much of the company’s work was to undertake aeronautical research projects for the French government. In 1929 Guyot moved to work as an aeronautical engineer at the "Hydravions Lioré & Olivier", a much larger company, which designed and manufactured seaplanes and military aircraft, including the LeO 45. She remained there until 1935, working on fuselages and hulls of several seaplanes, and in collaboration with designers, Paul Asantchéef and André Violleau, who thought highly of her. In 1932, Guyot learnt to fly and bought a second-hand light plane, a Farman 231 with lowered wings, two-seater tandem roadster, Renault 95 horsepower engine, maximum speed around 186 km / h12.

In July 1912 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel before being transferred to Queensland, where he eventually became the Assistant Adjutant General. At the start of the First World War, concerns about Bruche’s German heritage led to him not being accepted for overseas service in the First Australian Imperial Force (AIF) until June 1916 when he was appointed to the staff of the AIF headquarters in London. Later he served on the staff of 5th Division in France as a temporary colonel where he worked closely with General John Monash. Monash is said to have thought highly of Bruche’s administrative skills, so highly in fact that following the end of hostilities he made Bruche director of the non-military employment scheme that was set up in England as part of the repatriation process to provide soldiers with civilian skills that they could use on their return to Australia.

A leading member of the Cádiz school, Joséf, followed very closely all the innovations that Francisco Sanguino had introduced, but with the additional development of doming the soundboard with the struts, an approach that later makers such as Jose Recio, Antonio de Torres, and Francisco Gonzales also adopted. Pagés started with systems of three braces, like the early guitars of Sanguino and Benedid; his later instruments used five. His guitars greatly influenced Louis Panormo, who used similar fan strutting designs and similar proportions for the body of the guitar. The great Spanish composer and guitarist Fernando Sor thought highly of Pagés's guitars, stating 'The guitars to which I have always given preference are those of Alonso of Madrid, Pagés and Benediz of Cádiz, Joseph and Manuel Martinez of Malaga...' The composer Dionisio Aguado also mentions the Pagés brothers as among the makers he would recommend.

The land distribution views of both Johnson and Rutledge coincided with those of philanthropist James Edward Oglethorpe (1696-1785) and his group of 114 colonists who anchored in Charleston in January 1733, having sailed from Gravesend England aboard the ship Anne with a mandate to found a colony for the "worthy poor" in what is now the State of Georgia. Certainly, James Oglethorpe thought highly of Andrew Rutledge. In 1739, when the post of Chief Justice became available, Oglethorpe wrote to the authorities in England, recommending Rutledge for the position. To the Duke of Newcastle, Oglethorpe wrote: > I take the liberty of laying before you that Andrew Rutledge, who was bred > to the study of law in England, is a very worthy and deserving man; that he > hath acquired a very great character in Carolina; and that he is > distinguished by his zeal to His Majesty's person and government.

From 1927 to 1933 Peter Brieger worked as a private lecturer at the University of Breslau; he was also assistant to his former supervisor Grisebach until 1930, and then to Frey until 1933. Grisebach thought highly of him, writing in a report in 1933 that “thanks to his solid scientific background [he] exercised an unusually fruitful teaching activity”, as well as noting his "responsible way of working" and "extraordinary pedagogical disposition". After spending a few months in Paris in 1933, he went on to London, where he worked in 1934 on a series of maps for archaeologists and art historians at the Courtauld Institute of Art, entitled the Atlas of Medieval Art and Architecture in England. He gave lectures at the Courtauld as one of several temporary faculty members, and contributed photographs to the Courtauld's Conway Library archive, which is currently undergoing a digitisation project.

Into the 1990s, residents of Ismaïlia in north-eastern Egypt burned effigies to mark an annual spring holiday, including one of Allenby more than 70 years after he led forces in the Sinai. The British journalist Mark Urban has argued that Allenby is one of the most important British generals who ever lived, writing that Allenby's use of air power, mechanised forces and irregulars led by Lawrence marked one of the first attempts at a new type of war while at the same time he had to act as a politician holding together a force comprising men from many nations, making him "the first of the modern supreme commanders".Urban, 2005 p.

In 1992, I asked Professor Dr Alleweldt, then head of the Geilweilerhof State Institute for Grapevine Breeding, to see if he could discover more about our Mad Angie (as it is often known). He located Georg Scheu’s old breeding books in the Alzey archives and found that ‘Sämling 7672’ was – as Brock was originally told – an ‘open pollinated progeny of Madeleine Angevine’. Madeleine x Angevine 7672 found favour with many of the early UK growers and it became fairly widespread. At one time it was the third most popular variety (after MT and Seyval blanc) and Gillian Pearkes, in the West Country, thought highly of it. Unfortunately, owing to the confusion over the name and the fact that this variety was not available from any other source other than Brock’s original stock or vineyards planted with vines obtained from Brock, some growers were sold vines of the true table grape variety Madeleine Angevine, which was barely suitable for the UK, except in the very best years.

Whilst establishing herself in St Ives, Barns- Graham also continued to send work back to Scotland for major exhibitions held there such as the Royal Scottish Academy's 117th Exhibition in 1943. The 1940s were an active time for the St Ives Society of Artists who received a number of invitations to send exhibitions and groups of works to galleries in the UK and abroad, Barns-Graham's work was always included in these as the Society's secretary, Borlase Smart, thought highly of her work. After the war the number of young modern artists joining the St Ives Society of Artists increased, of which Barns-Graham was one, their works were often shown in the darkly lit font area of the New Gallery of the Mariners' Church which gave them the nickname 'The Artists Around the Font'. There was deemed to be hostility from the more traditional artists of the Society so Barns-Graham and the other modern artists decided to exhibit their work separately in the crypt area of the New Gallery, calling themselves the Crypt Group.

His division, comprising the 4th, 5th and 6th Infantry Brigades and supporting units, was sent to France soon after war began, where it formed part of Lieutenant General Sir John Dill's I Corps of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF). The division fought in the Battle of France and the subsequent retreat to Dunkirk where it was withdrawn to England in the Dunkirk evacuation. However, on 16 May 1940, Loyd fainted during a conference and was evacuated to England, with command of the 2nd Division passing to Brigadier Noel Irwin, commander of the 6th Brigade. In 1941, after serving as Director of Infantry at the War Office in succession to Major General Henry Willcox, he became Chief of the General Staff (CGS) to General Sir Alan Brooke, the Commander-in-Chief, Home Forces, who had been a fellow student at the Staff College shortly after the First World War and thought highly of "Budget" Loyd, before moving on to be General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Southern Command in March 1942.

Although thought highly of by many officers, Dawley had been moved on by Patton in Sicily (although this was mainly due to Patton wanting an experienced corps commander) and his suitability for high command had been questioned by the Supreme Allied Commander in the MTO, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, and British General Sir Harold Alexander, the 15th Army Group commander, who described Dawley as a "broken reed". After the problems at Salerno, during which Clark brought in Major General Matthew Ridgway, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, to act as the VI Corps deputy commander, Dawley was replaced by Clark after Salerno, as he was judged to be "worn out". Many, including both Walker and Middleton, along with Colonel James Gavin, commander of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, believed Clark used Dawley as a scapegoat to cover his own failures and thought Clark should be the one to go.Time Magazine Dawley was replaced as VI Corps commander by Major General John P. Lucas, who was also replaced in February 1944 during Operation Shingle.

Thus the architects and planners have avoided not only the clichés of ´high rise´ building but the dreary prisonlike order that results from forgetting the very purpose of housing and the necessities of neighbourhood living.""East End Urbanity" in "The Highway And The City", 1963 English Heritage has recognised the significance of the estate by listing some of the buildings including the SS Mary and Joseph Roman Catholic Church designed by Adrian Gilbert Scott; however, it noted that the estate has suffered considerable neglect, and also some well-meaning but ill-advised modernisation of the facilities within the associated market. John Betjeman thought highly of the estate, along with the nearby St John's Estate on the Isle of Dogs.
