In a deed dated 1594, he purchased land from Dermot O'Shaughnessy for 100 pounds, to "To hold for ever of the chief lord of the fee, by the service thereout due and of right accustomed."Calendar of Patent Rolls Elizabeth I 1595", Volume II, 1595 He also gave a deposition in a trial in 1615, concerning the inheritance of Sir Roger O'Shaughnessy and his sons, in Loughrea, County Galway. The Annals of Ulster for 1390 state- Great war this year between Tigernan Ruairc, namely, king of Breifni and Thomas, son of Mathgamain Ua Raighillaigh, namely, king of Muinter-Mailmordha. And Maghnus Ua Ruairc was at that time in custody with Ua Raghallaigh in the Rock of Loch-Uachtair. The Rock was pierced through and he escaped thereout and went to the castle of Loch-in-scuir and the clan of Muircertaigh Ua Concobuir followed him and he was killed by them in leaving the Loch.

Irrespective of whether the story of Lok's wife's actions is to be believed, extant documents confirm that Lok suspected that the stone might contain gold, and took pieces of it for analysis to William Williams, Assay Master of the Mint, and to two members of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths: one Wheeler, a gold refiner, and George Needham, Assay Master of the Society of the Mines Royal, none of whom found any trace of gold. Despite these negative results Lok persisted, and in early January 1577 took three small pieces of the stone to Agnello, as described in one of Lok's later depositions: > In the beginning of January I delivered a small piece thereof to John > Baptista Agnello, not telling what nor from whence, but prayed him to prove > what metal was therein. And within three days I came to him for answer. He > showed me a very little powder of gold, saying it came thereout, and willed > me to give him another piece to make a better proof.
