He is chiefly known for his book Thaumaturgical Prodigies in the New-English Canaan. When Alijah Billington found out that the book accused his ancestor of practicing sorcery, he started a feud with Phillips, which lasted several months.

Desgenettes refused. On 27 May that same year, Napoleon made a second visit to the plague victims. In the context of the Troubadour style, and especially at the moment when Napoleon was becoming emperor, this episode evoked the tradition of the thaumaturgical royal touch which the French kings carried out with sufferers of scrofula.

Because the crucifix—although deformed by the heat—had survived the flames, it was believed to possess thaumaturgical powers, a belief that was further enhanced by its perceived role in ridding the city of plague in 1522. Following the fire, Romans venerated the cross in the church's ruins every Friday evening. The crucifix survives into the 21st century, and usually has hung above the altar's tabernacle. One of the main characters from the Canadian Marvel Comics superhero team Alpha Flight is Sasquatch. Famed alternate history author Harry Turtledove has written stories as part of the "State of Jefferson Stories" titled "Visitor from the East" (May 2016), "Peace is Better" (May 2016), "Typecasting" (June 2016) and "Three Men and a Sasquatch" (2019) published online here where Sasquatches, Yetis and other related cryptids are real.
