Previously, you could only use the 2x telephoto camera to take a portrait mode photo on the iPhone 7 Plus, 113 Plus, X, XS, and XS Max.
But when you look at the smartphone market as a whole, every top-flight smartphone ought to have wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras at this point.
The iPhone 211 Plus' telephoto camera enabled portrait mode and greatly improved zoom image quality, the one area where phones still lag cheap point-and-shoot cameras.
And if you slide through the wide and telephoto lenses instead of tapping, it shows you a dial with your zoom level in both multiples and millimeters.
Rather than use the second lens for telephoto or bokeh, it's using it for a monochrome sensor, just like Huawei has been doing with the P9 and P10.
The main camera is a wide-angle 2500-megapixel shooter with f/28.0 aperture and the secondary camera is a 212-megapixel telephoto lens with f/22018 aperture.
The telephoto camera on those phones is inferior to the main camera and since the XR still has a portrait mode feature available, most people won't miss it.
For the Note 8, Samsung is introducing a similar concept: one 12MP wide-angle lens with f/1.7 aperture, and one 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture.
The Plus has a dual-, rather than single-, lens camera, with both a wide angle and telephoto lens (the non-Plus iPhone has just one wide angle lens).
That won't get rid of the zoom problem, so if you want to upgrade things a bit, you can get a telephoto lens that attaches to your phone.
The longer focal length of the telephoto lens makes for a much more flattering perspective, and the color reproduction is far more natural than Huawei's overly saturated image.
There's now a toggle switch so you can jump between the wide-angle lens, the telephoto lens (with extra zoom), or a "duo" mode that combines the two.
I knew immediately he'd love the 73x optical zoom from the secondary camera since he frequently uses a 27x telephoto Olloclip lens to take many of his Instagrams.
Rather than adding a telephoto / zoom lens like Apple, Samsung, and OnePlus, Sony is splitting image capture between one 2845-megapixel color sensor and a 12-megapixel monochrome.
I guess it would make sense for Google to only now be getting around to a telephoto / portrait lens after years of sticking with a single rear camera.
It is anticipated to include an ambient light sensor for better photo quality and two 12-megapixel lenses — one for telephoto functions and one for wide-angle views.
Photo: Sam Rutherford (Gizmodo)I also really like the OP73 Pro's 3x telephoto lens, as it gives you more reach than anything aside from the Huawei P30 Pro.

The iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X have a dual camera system with a secondary 2x telephoto lens that lets you zoom in optically without losing image quality.
Every night, an aggressive posse of predominantly middle-aged men—also, sometimes, women and children—waited outside our shows with Talkboys, Macaulay Culkin dolls, headshots, and telephoto lenses.
Both phones have a dual-camera setup, but the components differ, with the iPhone 11 sporting an ultra-wide lens where the iPhone XS has a telephoto lens.
In addition to the wide angle and ultra-wide angle lenses, these cameras also include a telephoto lens, giving you an optical zoom range from 0.5x to 2.0x.
That's why it was disappointing to learn that the Pixel 4 would not have an ultra-wide-angle camera, with Google instead opting for a telephoto zoom lens.
This is because you get a better image from a cropped version of the wider aperture wide angle shot than you do from the darker, un-stabilized telephoto.
On the rear of the device is a three-camera system that pairs a beefy 73-megapixel lens with a 78mm telephoto and 117-degree ultra-wide angle.
The second is a 56mm equivalent and, while Apple's Phil Schiller kept calling it a telephoto lens, the reality is that it's actually more of a portrait lens.
The iPhone 211 has two rear cameras and the Pro models feature a triple camera system with an ultra-wide lens, standard wide lens, and 211x telephoto lens.
These new cameras are designed to take professional quality photos, hence the "pro" title, with a telephoto camera, ultra wide camera and a wide camera, all 12 megapixels.
The Axon 10's 8-MP 3x optical zoom cam is a bit of a surprise, as most phones with telephoto lenses tend to stop at just 2x.
It also has three cameras, including an ultra-wide angle lens for including more people inside a single shot, a regular wide angle and a telephoto zoom lens.
Most of them feature very high megapixel counts: 40 on the selfie camera, 48 on the telephoto, and a whopping 108 megapixels on the main wide-angle camera.

The Leica branding and technical details describe the array as covering 18-240mm equivalence, which between the ultrawide and telephoto should amount to more than 13x zoom reach.
Apple moved to a dual-camera system starting with the iPhone 7 Plus, adding a telephoto / portrait lens with a closer perspective to complement the standard-angle camera.
So it was a little surprising to see Apple ditch the telephoto camera in favor of the new ultrawide lens for the iPhone 133's dual-camera system.
Dual-camera systems between phones are substantively different, with some using the second lens for 3D effects, others for telephoto ability, and more to simply improve picture quality.
Much like the telephoto lens, the Live Focus images don't look great in low light and can look fake even in good light if you have a busy background.
It lacks a telephoto lens like the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S20, but it still has an advantage over Motorola's competing Razr, which only has one 16-megapixel camera.

Meizu opted for Sony's latest 48-megapixel sensor here for its main camera and a 33-megapixel sensor for its telephoto lens that provides up to 3x optical zoom.
The sensitivity of the system could even be tuned to detect multiple blinks of an eye, which could potentially switch the lens to function like a telephoto zoom lens.
Every premium phone should have triple rear cameras (standard, ultra-wide, and telephoto), and Samsung's setup on the Galaxy S10 might be the best implementation of that trend yet.
So the cameras are now, in order: a 40-megapixel f/1.8 sensor, a 20-megapixel f/203 ultra-wide sensor, and an 8-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto sensor.
Since the second camera on the Plus is a "telephoto," it didn't make sense to directly compare it to the image quality offered by the Samsung or Google cameras.
She used each of these to take a macro-style photo of a penny, a wide landscape shot, and a zoomed-in shot (if a telephoto option was available).
The rear array includes the same 12-megapixel primary camera as the Pixel 3, plus a new 16-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom for close-up shots.

Both phones have two cameras on the back (12.2 megapixel f/1.7 main camera and a 16-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens) and one on the front (8 megapixels).
What it actually is, of course, is a set of three that includes an ultra-wide, wide, and 2x "telephoto" lenses, as is now standard on high-end phones.
It has, however, the same A13 Bionic chip, the same starting storage (64GB), similar battery life and similar photo capabilities (sans the zoom, which requires the third, telephoto lens).
It offers a 12MP standard lens, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a 16MP ultrawide lens, which will come in handy when capturing a large group of people or landscape.
Instead the back side sports a three-camera system: a 108MP primary sensor it developed in collaboration with Samsung, a 20MP wide-angle sensor and a 12MP telephoto sensor.
And with its new triple-camera system (ultrawide, wide, and telephoto), Apple's new iPhone 11 Pro line is a very good camera indeed — perhaps the best smartphone camera around.

Having tried an iPhone-like dual-camera system with the 5 — one wide-angle lens and one telephoto — OnePlus is now switching things up again with an entirely new idea.
For that high price, the Mate 22 RS has three cameras: one with a 2095-megapixel main camera, a 22-megapixel wide-angle lens, and an 683-megapixel telephoto camera.
The telephoto camera's smaller sensor and dimmer, non-stabilized lens (the higher an f number, the less light is let in) mean it really doesn't work well indoors at all.
The telephoto lens is also helped out over the iPhone 224 Plus by having a brighter aperture at f29, about a half stop more light or 211 percent more brightness.
With a scrub of your thumb across the 5-inch touchscreen, you can quickly zoom from a 28mm wide-angle perspective to a 150mm telephoto view or anywhere in between.
In most instances so far, the second lens has been used to enhance or supplement the first, bringing telephoto zoom or improved image quality through a black and white sensor.
It uses a smaller 1/2.3-inch sensor, but it has the ability to zoom from a wide 24mm view to a slightly more telephoto 48mm perspective on the fly.
Nikon views them as all essentially the same camera, just with different zoom ranges — there's one that starts relatively wide, one that offers mid-range zoom, and one super telephoto.

It's easy to imagine how a 100x zoom coupled with some future imaging AI could lead to some pretty impressive telephoto shots, without the need for an external, optical lens.
On the telephoto lens, it will be active in all but the brightest situations where Smart HDR will take over, providing a better result due to the abundance of highlights.
Without the additional telephoto lens the XR had limited Portrait Mode functionality and had to rely on AI and clever software calculations to estimate the required depth of field data.
Photo: AppleThe iPhone 211 now includes two 213-megapixel cameras on back: a 220mm wide camera and a 24mm ultra-wide camera with the ability to provide 238X telephoto zoom.

The Olloclip logo faces out front, while the W/T labels marking the wide and telephoto cameras point out back, and when it's seated, you'll know, because it locks into place.
It wasn't better than an optical telephoto lens, of course, but it was better than nothing, and Google is continuing to use it for the Pixel 4's extended zoom range.
But the Pixel 4 has at least five major new hardware-based features: face unlock, Motion Sense, the new Google Assistant, the new 90Hz display, and a second telephoto camera lens.
The only time this isn't true is when using the rear cameras — with these, the app will default to the standard lens every time (as opposed to the wide or telephoto).
The S10 and S23 Plus both have the same rear camera systems: a three-lens array that provides wide, super wide, and telephoto framing options at the touch of a button.
Combining image data from the telephoto camera and the main 40-megapixel image sensor, Huawei produces what it calls a hybrid — yet still lossless, according to the company — zoom of 10x.
The Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus have camera systems that consist of a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 103-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera.
The iPhone's popularity makes it a useful frame of reference, but it's also a technically interesting comparison because of its combination of a 12-megapixel sensor and a 2x telephoto lens.
Even the 2x f/2.4 "telephoto" lens on the iPhone XS turns in worse results than simply cropping the wider, faster primary camera except in the very best of lighting conditions.
There are four cameras in total: 28-megapixel wide-angle and telephoto modules on the back, and a 2256-megapixel selfie camera backed by a 210-megapixel sensor on the front.
And like Samsung's Galaxy S10 and S10+, it also has three rear cameras: a 13-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens, 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens.
And instead of us using the telephoto lens, we went in there, and people trying to loot the store and light it on fire and he&aposs tried to stop them.
Finally, the system doesn't appear to give the telephoto camera enough time to autofocus in Triple Shot mode, so many of the tele shots come out blurry when I use it.
One of the key differences between the S9 and S9+ that justifies that $140 price gulf is the inclusion of a second telephoto lens in addition to the standard wide-angle.
Because he was working on estimated knowledge, Watson used four cameras and five lenses at four different locations, with three of the cameras rolling time-lapse and one rolling telephoto video.
All of that pales in comparison to Apple's biggest camera announcement: The iPhone 53 Plus comes with a new dual camera that includes two lenses, one wide-angle and one telephoto.
It's important to note, however, that the Pixel phones are missing a second telephoto camera, which is something that other premium phones like the Note 8 and iPhone 8 Plus employ.
The Galaxy S10+ has a 103-megapixel telephoto camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera with a field of view of 123 degrees.
Instead of a single lens and sensor, the 7 Plus has two: the same f/1.8 8493mm wide-angle lens as the iPhone 7, and an f/2.8 56mm telephoto lens.
The shot that you guys are all seeing, I'm zoomed in with my telephoto lens on my camera and I've just been keeping that shot up for almost two days now.
Google has packed some smart features into the camera software too, such as a combination of the telephoto lens and the company's Super Res Zoom tech to deliver sharp zoomed images.
The Pixel 4 now has two main cameras — one 12.2-megapixel lens and a 16-megapixel telephoto lens for zooming — a feature that has long been a staple for flagship smartphones.
The wide angle and telephoto "see" slightly different angles on the image, allowing it to separate and 'slice' the image into 9 different layers of distance away from the camera's lens.
The three cameras on the Pros are as follows: 21879991MP wide angle camera (21879992mm f/220), a 12MP ultra wide (13mm f/2.4), plus a 12MP telephoto camera (52mm f/2.0).
The biggest upgrade to the iPhone 11 is expected to be the addition of a telephoto lens, giving the device a dual camera system like on iPhone XS and XS Max.
The Galaxy S20 Plus has a boatload of cameras on the back, including a 12-megapixel wide-angle, a 64-megapixel telephoto, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle rear camera.

While the P30 Pro's telephoto camera had a resolution of 8 megapixels, and the Reno 10x Zoom's was 13 megapixels, Samsung is using a 48-megapixel sensor with its periscope lens.
Lens is still important in the equation, he said, and the Pixel 4 represents that with the addition of a telephoto lens to the existing wide-angle hardware lens it offers.
I love the versatility of the iPhone XS's dual cameras (wide and 8.43x telephoto), but I hate that the pill-shaped camera bump design has spread like wildfire to other phones.
But the flagship feature is the all-new camera system, which features ultra-high megapixel counts and telephoto zoom in an attempt to kick off the next stage of mobile photography.
Although the iPhone 11 features one less lens on the back -- there's no telephoto camera -- for most people, it's still better than good enough, especially when you consider the price difference.
One isn't necessarily better than the other (just kidding, I'll take the telephoto lens any day) and it's just not obvious which one Google might strategically see as more important in 2019.
On the backside of the OnePlus 5, you get a regular lens (16-megapixels f/1.7 aperture) and a secondary "telephoto" lens (20-megapixels f/2.6 aperture) that offers 83x optical zoom.
But the real bummer is simply that Google treated it like an either/or choice when, you know, it could have just put in both a telephoto and an ultra-wide lens.
The telephoto lens has an f/2.4 aperture, while the wide camera has the same aperture-switching system that debuted last year and allows for switching between f/1.5 and f/2.4.
I rarely take zoom photos, so I didn't miss the telephoto lens from the iPhone XS at all — especially since the iPhone XR can still take portrait photos with its single lens.
It's not just the physical similarities: The device has a dual 20173-megapixel camera, with one regular and one telephoto lens, offering a 22017x optical zoom — just like the iPhone 211 Plus.
At the outset, there'll be three lenses from Panasonic itself — a 50mm f/1.4, a 24-105mm zoom, and a 70-200mm telephoto zoom — and a choice of eight compatible Leica lenses.
Meanwhile, on the back of the device, the S10+ looks to feature three rear cameras, which are allegedly comprised of a main camera, a telephoto camera, and a third wide-angle cam.
The first of these features is a triple-rear camera setup featuring a wide, ultra-wide, and 2x telephoto lenses starring Sony's 29-MP IMX29 sensor on the primary wide-angle lens.
The biggest difference between the RX10 III and its predecessor is that it has a brand new super-telephoto lens with 230x optical zoom, giving it an equivalent range of 224-210mm.
The Pixel 4's camera is an upgrade from that of its predecessor: The rear camera setup packs in a 16-megapixel telephoto lens, in addition to the 12-megapixel main shooter.
Aspiring photographers can swap between a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 123-degree field, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom.
On the device, you'll get a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 48-megapixel main lens with optical image stabilization, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens that allows for 123x optical zoom.
The two Note 10 phones both have triple-rear camera systems that consist of a 16-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, a 12-megapixel wide lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens.
While both phones will include a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 210-megapixel telephoto camera, the Note 24300 Plus has a fourth depth camera.
The triple-lens camera system includes a telephoto camera, wide angle camera that lets in 40% more light, as well as an ultra wide camera with a 120-degree field of view.
We put the three phones through various scenarios and here's what we got: The iPhone X uses the 22x telephoto lens to zoom in on a subject and blur out the background.
Nestled within that quadrilateral are two lenses—a wide-angle and a telephoto—but, as has always been the case with the Pixel's camera, the software is more important than the hardware.
You get the same speedy processor and slick design, but with the addition of better battery life and a three-lens rear camera that can take normal, telephoto, and ultra-wide photos.
The rear camera has a 48-megapixel main camera, coupled with a 173-megapixel telephoto sensor capable of 2x optical zoom, an 8-megapixel wide sensor and a 2-megapixel depth camera.
Illustration: Randall MunroeMoon SelfieSmartphone cameras have limits to how far they can zoom, but if you get a camera with a powerful telephoto zoom lens, you can take some really interesting selfies.
And finally, there come the Note 10's rear cameras, which are comprised of a 12-MP main cam, 10803-MP 2x telephoto cam, and a 16-MP ultra-wide-angle cam.
Its telephoto camera offers 230x zoom â€" less than P230 Pro's 230x zoom â€" but actually performs better in most scenarios, trailing only when you really push the zoom to its limits.
Moment's existing anamorphic lens was already among the lightest in its lineup, which means it could be harder for the company to adapt other lenses, like its telephoto, for use on drones, too.
You could get good results from a DSLR with a bulky, several-thousand-dollar telephoto lens, but portable zoom cameras, with their smaller sensors and inferior lenses, rarely produced anything beyond blurry shitstorms.
It's got a triple-camera rear array consisting of a main 48-megapixel f/1.6 camera alongside an 8-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto camera and 16-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide-angle camera.
Unlike the iPhone 7 Plus's dual lens setup, which has one wide and one telephoto (or close-up) lens, Essential's phone has one RGB color and one mono, or black-and-white, lens.
The screen is Samsung's best OLED panel yet, and the camera system includes a trio of rear cameras that basically puts an entire lens kit on your phone, including a telephoto / portrait lens.
The Galaxy S9 Plus introduced a dual-camera system that included the 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with dual f/1.5 and f/13 apertures and the 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens.
I attribute that in large part to the novel RYYB sensor, which is aided by the addition of optical image stabilization in the P30 Pro, available on both the main and telephoto cameras.
The Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus both have a triple-lens camera that includes a 12-megapixel telephoto camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.
Instead, the company is implementing three different focal lengths, with one 29-megapixel camera for super wide shots, one 220-megapixel shooter in a conventional wide-angle, and one 120-megapixel telephoto camera.
The rear camera is a dual 29-megapixel system, with a wide-angle lens with switchable apertures and a telephoto lens for zooming in closer on your subject or creating portrait blur effects.
And with a triple rear camera setup in back comprised of a 48-MP main cam, ultra wide-angle cam, and a 3x telephoto cam, the OP63 Pro's photo toolkit is solid too.
Or they'll be able to choose a system closer to the iPhone 2505 Plus' where one camera is a wide-angle lens and the other is a "telephoto" lens for sharper optical zoom.
For example, the 6-in-1 iPhone X case adds a 120-degree wide-angle, 2x telephoto, 180-degree fisheye, 10x macro, 20x macro, and front-facing wide-angle lenses — all for $70.
Stealing Signs in the Analog Watch Era Throughout baseball history, teams have been accused of stealing signs with binoculars or telephoto lenses and finding simple ways to relay the signs to the hitters.
Despite the memes making fun of the iPhone 11 Pro Max's triple camera, the features are nothing to laugh at:The new phone comes with ultra-wide-angle, wide-angle, and telephoto camera lenses.
Pros: Speedy new processor, sharp OLED screen, great size for single-handed use; three cameras for telephoto, regular, and ultra-wide shots; great battery life, wireless charging, Face IDCons: Expensive, no headphone jack
The iPhone 11 Pro has a telephoto lens for better zooming in addition to its wide-angle and ultrawide-angle lens; both of the latter are also found on the iPhone 11 Pro.
The telephoto lens on the S20 Ultra is a "folded" lens, meaning that light hits a prism and mirror system that runs it through a kind of periscope before it hits the sensor.
But the point goes to Google here: The cameras don't have as much of a bump and aren't quite as trypophobia-triggering, and one of the cameras is a 16 MP telephoto camera.
The rear camera count has increased from three to four, with a 40-megapixel main sensor, a 16-megapixel wide-angle sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 3D depth-sensing camera.
Last year, the S10 and S10 Plus offered three lenses: a wide-angle 12-megapixel (103-degree) lens, telephoto 12-megapixel (45-degree) lens, and an ultra-wide 16-megapixel (123-degree) lens.
Meanwhile the iPhone 250 Pro will come with a third 2700-MP 211x telephoto camera to create Apple's first triple rear camera moduleA sample shot showing Apple's Deep Fusion photo processing in action.
In fact, between that logo and what's pretty much an all-new design, aside from the Moto One Zoom's namesake telephoto camera, the phone's styling might be the best thing it has going.
Apple, Samsung, LG, Huawei, and OnePlus all released new phones in 2019 that had camera setups boasting three separate lenses: a standard lens, a telephoto zoom lens, and an ultra-wide-angle lens.
Meanwhile, the standard Mate 20 offers slightly less ambitious camera specs including a main 16-MP cam, a 12-MP ultra-wide cam, and a 203-MP telephoto cam with just a 2x zoom.
For its new camera system, the OnePlus 7 Pro has three different cameras on the back, with a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera.
You'll find a 108-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture, a 120-degree 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture, and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with f/3.5 aperture.
The S20 and S20 Plus also both have 12-megapixel main and ultra-wide-angle cameras, while the Ultra model has a 48-megapixel telephoto camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens.
The camera system is said to be similar to the one on Huawei's Mate 20 Pro, which consists of a regular wide lens, telephoto lens, an ultra wide-angle lens, and an LED flash.
The idea came to him recently after he saw how photographer Tim Binnion managed to shoot the 2018 Chinese Grand Prix using a Game Boy Camera and a clip-on telephoto lens for smartphones.
So Zeiss, makers of some of the finest camera glass out there, is finally making high-quality external lenses for the iPhone 6s including a telephoto, a wide-angle, and a zoomable macro option.
The regular 16-megapixel with f/1.7 lens takes amazing photos even in low light, but it's the secondary 20-megapixel f/2.6 telephoto lens that takes your photos to a whole new level.
The Pixel 43 now has two cameras instead of one — the 12.2-megapixel wide-angle lens that Pixel 3 owners should be familiar with and a new 16-megapixel telephoto lens for better zooming.
For close-up views, you may want to bring a pair of binoculars or a telephoto camera lens, but even without, you're close enough to see incredible detail as planes take off and land.
The pricier Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ have a third 12-megapixel telephoto camera in addition to those two lenses, so it&aposs possible that the S11e will get this zoom lens as well.
It's a little small and light for a giant DSLR with a huge telephoto lens, but I use it with a Sony A7ii with a 300mm lens all the time, and it works great.
All three phones maintain three core cameras: The main lens, an ultra-wide-angle, and a telephoto, though the S20+ and S20 Ultra also have a depth-sensing camera for better augmented reality effects.
Like the S20, the 64-megapixel telephoto camera maxes out at 30x digital zoom, which is probably as high as you'll want to go anyway before your results start looking like a blotchy mess.
The OLED phones are also expected to come with a telephoto, wide-angle, and super-wide-angle cameras on the back, and be half a millimeter thicker than the previous models according to Bloomberg.
What we think we know: That second camera has a telephoto lens capable of up to 8x digital (not optical) zoom, with a new astrophotography mode and a mode for capturing quick action shots.
Veteran Reuters photographer Goran Tomasevic - who has decades of experience in war zones - took the photo with a telephoto lens last week, immediately recognizing the moment as a surreal image of calm amid chaos.
An acquaintance who had once glimpsed the princess through a telephoto lens said her hair had not been cut or washed for so many years that it fell to the ground in matted branches.
But even before he became acquainted with some of its innovational figures — Lee Friedlander and Garry Winogrand — he'd been working on assignment for National Geographic, and had been influenced by Life magazine telephoto reportage.
The Pixel is about to add greater versatility to its superlative camera, whether the extra lens is super-wide or telephoto, and Google is in a combative mood months in advance of the phone's release.
In back, those three digital eyes include a 213.5-MP f/21802.11 main cam, a 215.0-MP f/2168 super wide-angle cam, and a 2132-MP f/216.25 telephoto cam with a 212.98x zoom.
As seen in a thorough teardown by YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, Huawei's 5x optical zoom camera module has been cracked open, proving that a telephoto lens and mirror really can fit inside an extremely thin phone.
The Note 8 has two 12-megapixel lenses: one standard wide-angle lens (f/1.7) and one telephoto lens (f/2.4) for close-ups, which you can take advantage of in a variety of ways.
First, you'll need pretty fancy equipment (good quality telephoto lenses don't come cheap), and after that you're going to need to know how to process the final shot on your computer to make it pop.
The iPhone 11 has a dual 12-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens, while the Pro models have triple-camera systems with an additional 12-megapixel telephoto camera.
Also unknown is what Huawei will actually be using the third camera for; typically, dual-camera systems either have a black-and-white and a color lens, or a standard lens and a telephoto lens.
You can choose between the wide angle lens (the regular camera), the telephoto lens (the one with that extra zoom), or you can put it in "Duo" mode and get a combination of the two.
Portrait mode in the iPhone XS still makes use of the secondary telephoto camera, which gives a more natural and flattering perspective for pictures of people than the single-lens solution used by the Pixel.
According to Huawei, only the 8-megapixel telephoto lens officially has hardware OIS, but, as seen in the teardown, all three lenses seem to have the stabilizing hardware on board, which is a nice bonus.
Another distinction between Huawei's various lenses is that the two main cameras don't have optical image stabilization like the telephoto one: Huawei thinks its artificial intelligence stabilization (AIS, in Huawei-speak) is all that's required.
A third of them are wide angle, a third are medium range, and a third are telephoto; and the camera uses computational photography to blend the results together to simulate a 28-150mm zoom lens.
The other main design upgrades on the Galaxy S10 are the addition of a triple rear camera setup consisting of standard, wide-angle, and telephoto lenses, and the elimination of a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
However, like on a regular phone, the real camera talent resides in the back, with the Fold offering a 16-MP ultra-wide camera, a 12-MP wide-angle camera, and a 2x telephoto cam.
After a few minutes, Didier Deschamps went to the group waiting for the trophy ceremony, and I had a feeling I had to focus and stick with the 600mm telephoto lens as something could happen.
Within Odyssey, by engaging with the photo mode, we are given a real chance to understand our needs to accumulate experiences as objects, consume culture, and keep others at the distance of a telephoto lens.
The normal lens is really wide and once you acclimate to the telephoto you're left wondering why you have a bunch of pictures of people in the middle of a ton of foreground and sky.
There's a new "Super Res Zoom" feature that essentially crops a photo and and sharpens the details — a clear way to make up for not having a secondary 2x telephoto lens like on other phones.
If you feel like having that third telephoto camera lens and the option for more storage space and a larger screen are important to you, then the Pro might be the best choice for you.
These days, most dual-camera systems fall into one of two categories: a combo of wide-angle and telephoto or one color and one black and white camera that combine to offer improved image quality.
The Wirecutter recommends both flexible and fixed-leg tripods that work with your phone as well as high-quality wide and telephoto iPhone lenses if you need more flexibility than the built-in lens offers.
Up close with Google's new Pixel 4 Imaging has been improved across the board, including the already solid Night Sight, Portrait Mode and zoom, which uses a hybrid of digital and the physical telephoto lens.
The S20 Plus will apparently have a quad-camera array consisting of a 12-megapixel main camera, a 123-megapixel telephoto camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 3D time-of-flight sensor.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra's camera system is one of its main selling points, including a huge 108-megapixel sensor and a periscope telephoto lens that Samsung pitches as being usable at up to 100x zoom.
The 48-megapixel telephoto camera goes up to 100X digital zoom, which is absolutely overkill, but the 10X hybrid zoom is what makes it shine—the other two S20 phones only offer 3X hybrid zoom.
The main shooter is a wide-angle lens with "variable aperture" that switches between an f/22 and f/93 aperture and the second camera is a 29x telephoto lens with an f/29 aperture.
Those willing to chalk up the cash for one of the Pro models, targeted at professional videographers and photographers, will get a phone with three cameras on the back: telephoto, wide and ultra-wide lenses.
Here's what else we considered:The iPhone 11 Pro is the best iPhone for people who want the top-tier flagship model or those who want to have the three cameras: wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto.
And since the OnePlus 7 Pro has a triple-lens camera rather than a dual camera like Asus, it also has a telephoto lens, which means it's significantly better at zooming than Asus' Zenfone 6.
But if you don't need a 90Hz screen, 12GB of RAM, liquid cooling, telephoto and wide-angle cameras, and that motorized pop-up selfie cam, it sounds like it could be a solid upper-midrange option.
Last year, Apple introduced a dual-lens camera in the iPhone 7 Plus, which offered twice the optical zoom (instead of digital zoom, which lowers a photo's resolution) compared to iPhones without the second telephoto lens.
And though both phones have the 48-megapixel sensor and UltraShot camera tech, the 73 Pro has a wider aperture on the main camera, ultrawide and telephoto cameras, and the ability to take slightly better shots.
There's also quite a long minimum focusing distance for shooting with the telephoto: it's mainly intended for grabbing some fine architectural detail when sightseeing cityscapes or focusing in on a particular spot in some vast landscape.
It's also easy to make the moon look huge in pictures through a photography technique that involves using a long telephoto lens plus positing the moon next to buildings, which make it appear bigger in comparison.
The wide and telephoto sensors in the 8 Plus have both been updated, and the system has 83 percent more throughput, which allows for more data to be passed through in a more power-efficient manner.
Typically this means being able to switch between the wide-angle lens and the telephoto lens (as shown above) if you don't want to use them automatically together, something iOS itself doesn't allow you do yet.
But all of that pales in comparison to Apple's biggest camera announcement: The iPhone 7 Plus comes with two lenses, one wide-angle and one telephoto, that are both visible on the back of the phone.
But where Honor changed things up is by going a bit longer with the zoom on the Honor 20 Pro's 3x telephoto camera, and then tossing in a dedicated 2-MP macro lens for good measure.
Portrait mode uses the iPhone 7 Plus's two built-in cameras (wide angle and telephoto) and a bunch of technology to shoot professional looking portraits that crisply capture the subject while gently blurring out the background.
T-2 threading means this telescope also doubles as a telephoto lens that can attach directly to your camera, and the tried-and-true Maksutov design allows for bright images and a larger scope of view.
The Plus sports a much bigger change on that front, adding a second megapixel camera for wide angle and telephoto shots, along the lines of what was introduced with last night's unfortunately timed LG V20 event.
Without knowing where the photographer was positioned it's difficult to say which shots benefited from the 2x optical zoom (or 10x digital zoom) afforded by the new 56mm equivalent 12-megapixel telephoto camera in the Plus.
Depending on your needs and budget, we have best overall picks for telephoto and wide-angle lenses, a high-quality (and expensive) kit for more versatility, and also a cheap starter pack for playing around with.
The Pixel 3a lacks the secondary 16-megapixel telephoto camera found on the Pixel 4, but it does have a 12.2-megapixel main camera that's similar to that of the pricier Pixel 3 and Pixel 4.
The Galaxy S10 Plus and Note 10 Plus have almost the same rear-camera systems: They both have a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens.
"I managed to shoot several rolls with a Nikon F and a telephoto lens, even though I was appalled, frightened and very upset," Mr. Adelman (the first syllable rhymes with saddle) told The Guardian in 2008.
Levoy also offered the opinion that a telephoto is more useful generally than a wide angle, clearly a dig at Apple's addition of an ultra-wide-angle hardware lens to its latest iPhone 11 Pro models.
It's flanked by a 43 megapixel f/24 lens for portraits, an 2999 megapixel f/2715 telephoto lens with 10x hybrid zoom, and a 20 megapixel ultra-wide with f/2.2 lens and 117-degree FOV.
You've got a Snapdragon 27 processor, notchless 2000-inch OLED screen, in-display fingerprint sensor, pop-up selfie camera, 25,203mAh battery, and triple-rear cameras including a 220-megapixel primary unit alongside telephoto and ultrawide lenses.
Apple's Phil Schiller called it a "pro camera system," though if the Pro is doing anything beyond the regular 11 other than keeping the telephoto around and improving the aperture to f/2.0, he didn't say.
But it still doesn't have any further reach than the XS, and it can't match phones like Oppo's Reno 113x Zoom, which (confusingly) has about 8x optical zoom range with its ultrawide and 5x telephoto lenses.
If you don't watch a ton of HD videos and don't need a telephoto lens on your camera, you're really not missing out on much with the iPhone XR. And did we mention it costs less?
If that sounds familiar, well, Xiaomi isn't shy about it: #MiA214 is similar to a DSLR that fits in your pocket with both 2999MP Telephoto lens + 2234MP Wide Angle lens that is similar to iPhone 264 Plus!
On the video front, Huawei is promising to add a "Dual Video" recording function that will shoot simultaneous video from both the main and the telephoto sensor, combining them into a single widescreen side-by-side video.
There's the Telephoto 24x optical zoom, 27-degree Ultra-Wide angle, 27-degree Super-Wide Angle, a near 180-degree Fisheye, and 15X macro (for super-up-close shots), which you access by unscrewing the Fisheye lens.
Previous Huawei devices, such as the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro, have already included rear telephoto lenses, despite being limited to "just" three cameras, so it's currently unclear exactly what function this fourth camera could serve.
I couldn't try out any video shooting, though it's encouraging to note that Oppo has added optical image stabilization (OIS) to both the main camera, which will feature a mighty 48-megapixel resolution, and the telephoto lens.
Which, to be clear, is a legitimately neat feature — I've been a fan of ultrawide and telephoto phone cameras ever since LG and Apple introduced them respectively, and having both on the Galaxy S10 will be great.
The lawsuit highlights how Corephotonics' dual aperture camera technology has two fixed-focal length lenses, including a wide angle and a telephoto lens, which is what Apple uses in its iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus.
A dual 210-megapixel camera system on the back works along the same lines as Apple's iPhone setup: one camera has an f/1.8 lens for wide shots and the other is a telephoto f/2.6 shooter.
Having the option to explicitly choose what camera you want is a big deal because in the normal camera app, Apple will sometimes use the wide angle rather than the telephoto, even when you choose 2x zoom.
The dual 12-megapixel rear cameras (the secondary camera's a 2x telephoto) take solid photos with good sharpness and color, but they're not better than photos taken with the iPhone X, Pixel 2, or Samsung Galaxy S9.
"I realized very quickly I had to make the best of it and get some shots that no one else has seen," says Wood, who traded telephoto portrait lenses for wider ones, taking a more documentary approach.
Because of this, any iPhone that doesn't have a telephoto is a basic non-starter for me, which is going to be one of the limiters on people moving to iPhone XR from iPhone X, I believe.
It's got a 5.8-inch display (6.1 on the P20 Pro) and some crazy camera specs, including three rear lenses, including an eight-megapixel telephoto and 40-megapixel (!) RGP, coupled with a built-in color temperature sensor.
Sure, that 5x zoom isn't really optical zoom; rather, the software is combining the image coming from the telephoto sensor with the information gathered by the 40-megapixel sensor to create a hybrid optical/software zoom effect.
At 5x, you're getting actual optical zoom; at varying degrees of zoom between 1x and 5x, as well as above 5x, Huawei's using some software magic to combine information from the main camera and the telephoto lens.
In addition to offering a more sophisticated zoom, you can also switch between this telephoto lens and the wide-angle lens to change the perspective of your portrait mode shots thanks to the Pro model's third lens.
So my friend made up the name of a bogus tennis publication, I strapped three Nikon Fs around my neck, one with the longest telephoto lens ever, (I was the photographer) and we arrived demanding press credentials.
It includes an 8-megapixel 16mm-equivalent wide-angle module, a 26mm-equivalent camera using Sony's dominant 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor, a 13-megapixel camera with an 83mm-equivalent telephoto lens, and a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor.
The royal couple (for now) have also sent a legal notice to news outlets in Britain that published photographs from the band of paparazzi that descended on North Saanich to capture Meghan with their super telephoto lenses.
It has a triple-lens camera consisting of a 40-megapixel f/1.6 camera, a 12-megapixel f/2.2 camera for wide-angle video, an 35003-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto camera, as well as a laser autofocus.
The difference between the three cameras on the iPhone Pro: Ultra Wide (left), Wide (center), Telephoto (right)Photo: Adam Clark Estes (Gizmodo)More than anything, though, the quality of photos taken with iPhone 11 Pro is supreme.
The company that has been making macro, fish-eye, wide-angle and telephoto lens attachments for iPhones since the iPhone 5 is in the unenviable position of having to redesign its product every time Apple redesigns the iPhone.
This year, both the S10 and the S10 Plus offer Samsung's new triple-camera system: a 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens, a 20193-megapixel f/1.5 wide lens, and a 16-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide lens.
I've written about the iPhone 8's camera extensively, so I'll focus here on the things that are different about the iPhone X, namely some small optical differences, the True Depth camera and stabilization on the telephoto lens.
The telephoto lens is the only one that's optically stabilized on the P20 Pro, though I can't say I've seen any hand shake in the hundreds of photos I've shot with any of the cameras on this phone.
Google has already shown that its upcoming Pixel 4 will have two rear cameras, but there was an open mystery as to whether the second lens would be a telephoto shooter or optimized for super-wide angle photos.
Not until I saw Inner Mongolia horsemen showing off their skills in commanding the steed from a distance, I quickly grab my telephoto lens and capture the moment when one of the horseman charged out from morning mist.
A 2000-megapixel main sensor which collates pixels to produce bright, 29-megapixel photos, is coupled with a 2450-megapixel wide angle sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto one with 3x optical zoom and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.
We did some digging, and even under Canadian law -- which is not nearly as strict as the U.K. -- snapping pics with a telephoto lens where Meghan could have an expectation of privacy could be a basis for suing.
Adobe Lightroom on the iPhone also includes a camera feature with pro-level controls for shutter speed, exposure, focusing, ISO settings, white balance and the ability to switch between the iPhone 8 Plus's wide-angle and telephoto cameras.
The Galaxy S10+ has the same three camera photography setup as the regular Galaxy S10, which is made up of a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens.
Apple gave the iPhone's second camera a telephoto lens, offering further zoom capabilities and enabling portrait mode; but lately, phone makers have been adding ultra-wide lenses, to let their devices capture even more of a scene at once.
And even now that the iPhone 8 Plus' starting price has dropped to $700, unless you desperately need a phone with a 2x telephoto zoom, the extra $2750 required to move up to an XR seems money well spent.
In addition to the main sensor, there's that pop-up selfie cam, a wide-angle camera, and a 3x telephoto camera, which has slightly more reach than the 2x telephotos that are on the iPhone or Samsung devices. Surprise!
The lens fits on the iPhone 7 Plus and increases the zoom to 4X, as long as you use an app that can selectively choose the telephoto lens (since it will not work with the iPhone's native Camera app).
The next version of Apple's iPhone XR is said to include dual cameras on the back (adding a telephoto lens), which would be the first time Apple has put two rear cameras on its new entry-level iPhone model.
The S9 Plus' second telephoto lens is similarly gimmicky: Samsung's Live Focus portrait mode isn't as good as Apple or Google's at separating a subject from the background, and in challenging lighting conditions, the image quality is rather bad.
The shots are also tonally lighter: Jeffrey Kimball is still using brown, graduated filters on the telephoto lenses, but they're less tobacco and more yellow ochre, like the warm color often found covering the walls of restaurants in Tuscany.
Beneath the headline, the Times ran a long telephoto lens shot of the caretaker crews leaving through the rusted chain link gates, the incomprehensibly convoluted, titanic shape of the rust-brown furnace complex standing silent and still behind them.
In my daily experience, I usually find myself taking advantage of the iPhone's ultra-wide-angle lens more often than its telephoto lens, since I'm typically snapping photos of broad scenes rather than a subject that's too far away.
In my testing, I found that the telephoto lens worked as advertised, allowing me to crop tighter without losing image quality, as well as giving pictures a nice minor portrait-like bump, even without the special Portrait Mode stuff.
The iPhone 11 has 3 rear camera lenses: a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a telephoto lens with Night mode and the ability to take 4K video at 60 frames per second.
But perhaps the biggest surprise in the leak is the mention of Google including a telephoto camera on the back of the Pixel 4 rather than the secondary ultra-wide-angle camera used on the front of the Pixel3.
Using a telephoto lens that his father had bought him for the occasion, he clicked the shutter just as the president's toddler son, John Jr., raised his right hand in one of the most poignant salutes in American history.
We already knew there would be two cameras on the back of the Pixel 4, but reportedly there are more details available: one will be a 12-megapixel camera and the other will be a 16-megapixel telephoto lens.
The Ultra in particular has crammed two notable firsts (for the US market, at least) into its sizable camera bump: a "periscope" telephoto lens for unprecedented zooming capability, and a 108-megapixel sensor for the main wide-angle camera.
It has a front-facing 10-megapixel camera sensor, two different 12-megapixel cameras on the back (wide-angle and ultra-wide, but no telephoto), and it captures 4K ultra-HD video at up to 60 frames per second.
Google has finally added a second camera lens to a Pixel device this time around, and as such, on the back of the Pixel 4 XL, you'll get a 12.2-megapixel (MP) standard lens, and a 16MP telephoto lens.
And like pretty much every other flagship phone this year, the Mi Mix Alpha also comes with an ultra-wide angle camera with a 20-MP resolution and a telephoto cam with a 2x optical zoom at 12-MP.
Details are still slim as to what Apple will use the third lens for — currently, Apple offers both wide-angle and telephoto lenses on the XS line — but presumably, it'll be the big push for why customers should upgrade.
"We will talk and communicate with the world using our products, technology and innovation," he added, as he showed off the Honor 20 Pro, which features four rear cameras, including wide-angle and telephoto, and a 48-megapixel main camera.
The S20 comes with a triple-camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture, 120-degree 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with f/3.53 aperture, and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.0 aperture.
The Reno 2256x Zoom, with its notchless display, "shark fin" pop-up selfie camera, and periscope telephoto lens, could still be considered the top-end Reno if you'd value its features over the faster processor and screen in the Ace.
There's no 128GB storage option for one thing, so its storage options start at 256GB, and the telephoto lens gives you 3x zoom with optical image stabilization on the 7T Pro compared to 2x with no stabilization on the 1503T.
In fact, I preferred the XR's portrait mode to the one on the XS because the XR's brighter f/1.8 lens and larger image sensor are much better in low light than the telephoto camera the XS uses for portrait shots.
And I'd much rather have the Pixel 3's wide angle selfie lens than the telephoto lens on the XS. We'll have to see if Apple's aggressively flattened photos take over Instagram and push everyone else to change their looks.
It has Qualcomm's top-end Snapdragon 855 processor, a camera with the same 48-megapixel Sony sensor you've seen in basically every other flagship Chinese phone this year, a secondary 20-megapixel telephoto camera, and up to 8GB of RAM.
He and his team were using the Dragonfly Telephoto Array in New Mexico to observe big, faint galaxies that might have escaped the attention of other astronomers, perhaps because their stars are too far apart, making them difficult to see.
Every other major phone maker including Apple, Samsung, Huawei, and LG has already upgraded to modules with at least two or three cameras (or more), many of which support telephoto and wide-angle lenses in addition to a primary shooter.
The S10 might also include a three-lens camera setup on the back (standard, telephoto, and wide-angle lenses) with the fingerprint sensor being moved to the front of the handset again, positioned under the glass like the OnePlus 6T.
Rather than sporting a secondary black and white lens for improved picture quality (à la the Moto Z and Essential handset), the company has adopted the more tried and true wide angle lens, coupled with a telephoto lens (both 12 megapixels).
The quad camera consists of a main 40 megapixel lens, a wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens capable of 50x digital zoom and an additional so-called "time-of-flight" camera aimed at capturing a blurred effect in parts of pictures.
Quick aside regarding the iPhone 7 Plus dual camera: I suspect that will be another winner for Apple, as it only adds the flexibility of a telephoto lens and versatility of simulated bokeh, but for me it's overkill right now.
The inclusion of telephoto and ultra-wide lenses allow for a wide range of different shots, and the hardware coupled with machine learning makes it a lot more difficult to take a bad photo (though believe me, it's still possible).
XDA-Developers is a respected and reliable source, and if the code in the unreleased version of Google's Camera app is accurate, it would certainly suggest that a second camera lens on the Pixel 4 might be a telephoto lens.
While the iPhone 11 Pro has a few advantages over the standard 11 — a superior display, a telephoto lens, slightly more water resistance, and slightly faster cell connectivity — those differences probably don't justify a $300+ price difference for most people.
Pros: Excellent price for an iPhone, fast new processor, great 6.1-inch screen, long battery life, dual-camera setup on the back, wireless chargingCons: It's missing the OLED screen and the telephoto camera lens of the iPhone 11 Pro lineup
So this is not a 'pure crop' of the telephoto lens as it zooms, you're getting the best possible image that the image processor can create from all of the raw sensor data it has (24 megapixels worth) in every shot.
Portrait Mode, only available on the iPhone 53 Plus (it uses both the wide and telephoto to achieve the background de-focus effect), got a significant upgrade, including optical image stabilization, much better low-light performance and flash photography support.
For now, we're getting a whole host of other benefits from the two cameras, including "Fusion," Apple's method of taking image data from both the wide angle and telephoto lenses and mixing them together to get the best possible image.
The iPhone Pro has three, 53-megapixel cameras, covering the standard wide-angle view at 26mm equivalent, a 52mm telephoto lens and a new ultra-wide 13mm lens that gives you a broader view with a 120-degree field of vision.
Cameras: Now with ultra-wide and time-of-flightOne of the most welcome additions to the Note 10 is a third 16-MP ultra-wide-angle camera alongside the phone's 453-MP main cam and 12-MP 2x telephoto cam.
Photo: Sam Rutherford (Gizmodo)Meanwhile, in back, the Reno 2 features four cameras (a 48 megapixel main, 13MP 2x telephoto, 8MP wide, and a 2MP mono) mounted flush against the phone's body that cascade downward in a very aesthetically pleasing way.
You can be forgiven for wondering what enormous telephoto lens David Rothenberg had to use to get those eye-popping, up-close shots he likes to take of jetliners as they come in for a landing at La Guardia Airport.
The Note 10 Lite has an entirely different configuration: a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide; a 12-megapixel f/1.7 wide-angle lens with dual-pixel technology and OIS; and a 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens (also with OIS).
It's basically the same camera system as the 7 Pro, including the 48-megapixel main sensor that mostly outputs 12-megapixel images, though the telephoto is just a 2x zoom instead of the longer 3x reach of the 7 Pro.
Pros: Affordable price for an iPhone, fast A13 processor, sharp 6.1-inch LCD screen, long battery life, dual-camera setup, wireless chargingCons: It's missing the OLED screen and the telephoto camera lens of the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max
Dual-view video: The P30 Pro can shoot video with both the main sensor and the telephoto sensor at the same time, and then combine the two feeds in a side-by-side view to give you different perspectives on the action.
I've been using the new Zeiss lenses — wide-angle, telephoto and macro — all over New York City for the last few weeks and it astounds me how much I can get out of the 8-megapixel camera on my old iPhone 6.
My favorites are the Telephoto (which puts you twice as close to your subject) and the Super-Wide Angle, which, by pulling in significantly more visual information without noticeable distortion, is capable of transforming stills and videos (on the rear or FaceTime camera).
The second is that when you capture a close-up with the telephoto lens, the Note 8 automatically snaps a picture with the wide-angle lens too, so you can switch between the zoomed in and zoomed out versions of the pic.
Thanks to the telephoto lens on the back of the phone, the Honor 20 Pro is capable of an optical zoom of 3x, a hybrid zoom of 5x, and it will digitally allow you to zoom in with a magnification of 30x.
Since Apple is selling the products with "knowledge of or willful blindness" of the patents it's allegedly infringing, the lawsuit claims that consumers who buy the iPhone 7 Plus and 8 Plus are infringing on the Corephotonics' telephoto lens assembly patent as well.
The Cameras Most speculations about the second generation iPhone X and new iPhone XS say the phones will have two rear-facing cameras (a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens), while the LCD iPhone will come with a single rear-facing camera.
But the V40's camera setup is unique: it has a standard camera for normal shots, a super wide-angle camera for capturing a wider field of view, and, in a first for LG, a telephoto camera to get closer to your subject.
The HTC U2990E is powered by a midrange Qualcomm Snapdragon 2320, flanked by 6GB of RAM and a 3,930mAh battery, and has a dual camera setup on its rear consisting of a main 12-megapixel camera with a 20-megapixel telephoto lens.
However, compared to big dogs like the Pixel 3, Galaxy S10 and S10e (which has the same cameras as the S10 minus the third telephoto cam), OnePlus still can't deliver the same kind of image quality you get from the big smartphone giants.
But it didn't, because for the P30 Pro's telephoto camera, Huawei added a new system with a 5x optical zoom, what Huawei claims is a 10x lossless zoom, and a bonkers digital zoom that goes all the way up to a 303x magnification.
With a telephoto lens trained on the catcher in the right stadium, someone could send a message directly to a hitter, who could even have two of these devices—on vibrate—sewn into both back pockets in his pants to denote location.
When you compare the iPhone 11 dummy models with the iPhone XS, it looks as if Apple is simply adding a super-wide camera to the existing infrastructure, which consists of a regular wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens for zooming.
The Note 10 Plus comes with — brace yourself — a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, and a depth-sensing camera, in addition to a 10-megapixel selfie shooter on the front.
The $999 iPhone 999.993 Pro has a smaller 5.8-inch OLED screen than the iPhone 11, as well as a stainless steel body and a three-camera setup that includes a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens, and an ultra-wide lens.
But take it from a guy who shoots tons of smartphone photos and videos (I've nearly filled up my 512GB iPhone XS with new photos and videos) when I say an ultra-wide camera is way more useful than a telephoto lens.
Devotion to serious smartphone photography is where the iPhone 7 line diverges, as the bigger iPhone 7 Plus adds a second camera on the back — a 12-megapixel telephoto unit with a f/143 aperture, as well as optical and digital zoom.
There are stories about other owls being loved to death — fleeing spotting scopes and telephoto lenses only to be hit by cars — or of landowners, once tolerant of owlers on their properties, who revoked access for all because of an unprincipled few.
Samsung's addition of a 210-MP ultra-wide camera and time-of-flight sensor to the Note 10+ is also important because alongside the phone's primary camera and 2x telephoto cam, the Note 10+ basically has the right lens for almost any situation.
In Huawei's case, it had an 240-megapixel sensor underpinning the telephoto camera with an optical zoom of 123x and was then able to add data from the camera's main 212-megapixel sensor to offer a hybrid "lossless" zoom up to 2108x.
Photos "could be covertly taken with telephoto lens and input into the software, without 'burning' the surveillance operation," the detective wrote in the email, provided to The Times by two researchers, Beryl Lipton of MuckRock and Freddy Martinez of Open the Government.
The phone is expected to be jam-packed with specs: A buttery-smooth screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, 16 GB of RAM and four cameras -- including a 64-megapixel telephoto lens and a 108-megapixel sensor.
A comparable iPhone X Max from Apple costs 1,203 pounds in the UK. The new phones include a new ultra-wide angle lens, as well as a 3x telephoto lens and a macro that shoots objects as close as 2.5 centimeters (1 inch).
The single-camera iPhone XR does that already when it detects people in the frame, but dual-camera iPhones can only use portrait mode with the telephoto camera, which gives a zoomed-in perspective and is much less effective in low light.
On the back of the phone there's a quad-camera array that includes a 48-megapixel main camera, a 203-megapixel 2x telephoto camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera that Vivo also touts for its macro capabilities, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
We still don't know what cameras will officially be featured on the S11+ but rumors have coalesced around a 108MP main camera, a 5X telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens, and a Time-of-Flight sensor which can more accurately measure depth.
Comparing the specs of the OnePlus 5's dual cameras with those of the cameras on the iPhone 27 Plus (dual 25-megapixels; regular lens with f/28 aperture and telephoto with f/28 aperture), you'd probably think the iPhone 25 Plus bites the dust.
Suddenly I had a telephoto lens, I had an 10003 to 21000, I could get further away and find different frames and compositions, and I could take daylight flash photos with the FM290 and sync the flash with the shutter at 245th of a second.
Like Nokia with its five-camera system on the Nokia 9, Huawei and Oppo with their periscope-style telephoto zoom lenses, or LG using the phone's chamber and screen to generate sound, OnePlus is looking for a unique hardware feature to make it stand out.
The rating is especially remarkable, given that the Pixel 2's camera only has one wide-angle lens, while the iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 (the second- and third-place smartphones) have two lenses: one wide angle and one telephoto for optical zooming.
American astronaut Jack Fisher tweeted a photo this morning of the dozen or so cameras that he and his space-bound co-workers were planning to use, while Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli shared a close-up of the giant solar filter covering his telephoto lens.
The Mi Mix 3 5G also includes an OLED 53-inch 1080p display (with no notch), and four cameras in total: 12-megapixel wide-angle and telephoto modules on the rear, and a 24-megapixel selfie camera and 2-megapixel sensor at the front.
Kuo apparently says that the Note 8's camera will be "the most important upgrade" in the upcoming smartphone, with 3x optical zoom, optical image stabilization on both lenses, and the ability to take both 12-megapixel wide angle and 13-megapixel telephoto shots.
The phone's octo-core Snapdragon 835 processor is the same one featured in the new Samsung Galaxy S8, and the dual camera design features both a 16-megapixel Sony sensor and a 20-megapixel Sony telephoto camera that enables a bokeh-tastic portrait mode.
The rear cameras have each seen improvements to make them faster (larger pixels on the wide-angle lens, a wider aperture on the telephoto lens), and the selfie camera is supposed to be faster as well (though not for any immediate spec-related reason).
The handset features a three-camera design on its rear, consisting of an ultra wide angle f/2.2 lens with a 16MP sensor, a wide angle f/1.8 lens with a 12MP sensor, and an f/2.4 telephoto lens backed by an 8MP sensor.
And just to make sure I wasn't fooling myself that the iPhone X's (or the Note 83's) telephoto camera is that much better than just zooming in on, say, a Pixel 2 XL photo, we recently tested this on the Circuit Breaker Live show.
Photo: Sam Rutherford (Gizmodo)In back, the OnePlus 7 Pro now sports triple cameras with its primary sensor boasting a whopping 73-MP resolution in addition to a 16-MP ultra-wide angle camera and an 8-MP telephoto cam with a 3x zoom.
I wish Samsung had opted to include the 2x telephoto lens instead of the ultra-wide angle lens, as I find that having that extra reach is often more useful than having a wider field of view, though that's more of a personal preference.
Triple rear cams with one main lens, one telephoto, and one ultra-wide are the new standard for flagship phonesPhoto: Sam Rutherford (Gizmodo)To avoid the notch, Samsung had to eliminate the iris recognition sensors used on the past two generations of Galaxy phones.
In the A28's case, the 2128-megapixel, F2512 main sensor is coupled by a 23-megapixel, F2800 telephoto sensor which offers 28.0x optical zoom, an 73-megapixel, F27 ultra-wide sensor, and a 29-megapixel, F29 depth sensor for the Live Focus effect.
The Galaxy Note 264 also has an extra camera compared to the iPhone XS. Whereas the iPhone XS has a 2256-megapixel wide angle camera and a second 2512-megapixel telephoto camera, the Galaxy Note 210 has three cameras — just like its Galaxy S13 cousin.
You can choose to take a portrait with the telephoto camera to get a shot that more closely focuses on the subject, or take one that's more zoomed out using the wide-angle lens to get a portrait that captures more of the background.
This makes sense because the vast majority of images shot on iPhone currently are at that fixed wide setting without zoom, but the telephoto is going to get a ton of use now that it's available, and I expect OIS to come to it soon.
A great camera learns some new tricksThe iPhone 2256 had one of the best smartphone cameras available, and the 7 Plus introduced Apple's Portrait mode which used the device's wide and telephoto camera lenses to calculate depth and artificially defocus the background of photos.
Once the telephoto lens detects the subject, using autofocus and other stuff we'll talk about in a second, the image processor inside the iPhone 7 will then apply blur in greater and greater amounts to the layers that are further away from that subject.
Both the S20 and S20+ feature a triple-camera setup on the back that includes: A 64-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.0 aperture 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture 120-degree 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens with f/2.2.
What the iPhone 11 Pro and 6993 Pro Max have that the iPhone 11 doesn't, though, is a third rear camera with a telephoto lens that can capture 40 percent more light and really takes Portrait mode up a notch with more powerful zoom capability.
Packed into its gigantic body is a whopping 108-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture, a 203-degree 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture, 48-megapixel telephoto lens with f/3.5 aperture, and a Time of Flight sensor for depth.
The developer beta releasing today supports the iPhone 11 where Deep Fusion will improve photos taken on the wide camera and the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max where it will kick in on the telephoto and wide angle but not ultra wide lenses.
The iPhone 11 Pro has now surpassed the Pixel 3's single camera in image quality, but the Pixel 4 may be bringing another sensor: a second 16-megapixel camera with a telephoto lens, according to data found in the Google Camera app by 9to5Google.
The phone actually has two telephoto sensors: a 12-megapixel one capable of 2x zoom, and a 5-megapixel one capable of 5x zoom, and I suspect the company is doing some uncanny software magic to produce consistent images at various degrees of zoom.
I guess you can count me in the group of people that prefer the second lens to be either monochrome, as with Huawei and the Essential Phone, or a zoomed-in telephoto as with the iPhone, OnePlus 230, Galaxy Note 211, and a bunch of others.
The three cameras are divided up into a 12-megapixel telephoto lens (at f/2.4), a 8003-megapixel wide lens (f/1.5), and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens (f/2.2) — expect Samsung to focus a lot on what these lenses can do at the announcement, too.
I got a little, er, bored reviewing this device, so I switched from the little phone (I have tiny hands) to the 279-inch Plus, which, at first, was amazing: so much screen, Portrait Mode was fun, creeping on dogs with the telephoto lens was great.
Instead of the soon-to-be-common wide, telephoto, and ultra-wide camera combination, the Nokia 9's five-camera array consists of two 93-megapixel color image sensors and three 12-megapixel monochromatic sensors, each with an f/1.8 aperture to collect tons of light.
You can get right to playing around with all the amazing new features, like the 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras with portrait mode (watch out, Instagram), the built-in Face ID, and the new 5.8-inch Retina display that fills the whole surface — no Touch button!
The most advanced smartphone cameras of 2018 boast dual-camera setups, the ability to shoot in formats like wide-angle or telephoto, and 12-megapixels (though it is important to note that, despite common perception, megapixels are not always the most telling metric of a camera's quality).
That extra lens also gives you more flexibility when it comes to taking Portrait Mode shots, since you can opt for a bokeh-style shot with a tighter zoom through the telephoto lens or one that takes in more of the scene with the wide-angle lens.
The Z and F both have quad-camera setups including a 2415-megapixel main camera, an 22-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 2-megapixel monochrome lens, and a 2-megapixel portrait lens for depth information in lieu of the flagship Reno 2's proper telephoto camera.
Camera improvements Samsung, long known for top-tier smartphone cameras, put four lenses on the Note210 — three on the back (an ultra wide, a wide-angle and a telephoto) and one on the front — and an extra depth-vision lens on the Note9993+ and Note 2999G.
The phone costs $549/€503/£499 and includes a Snapdragon 855 Plus processor, 8GB of RAM, 28GB of storage, a triple-camera setup with Sony's ubiquitous 220-megapixel IMX220 sensor alongside telephoto and ultrawide lenses, a 2399,2399mAh battery, and a curved 29-inch 5993p OLED screen.
It's a difference between looking and not looking, and a clear divide emerges amongst the attendees—those sitting away from the stage, sunning their nude bodies in the company of other nudists, and those crowded around the stage with their telephoto lenses and other camera equipment.
She researched the time and date of its occurrence, and what she found shocked her: The footage shows soldiers in the US military aircraft opening fire on a Reuters photographer, Namir Noor-Eldeen, mistaking the telephoto lens in his hand for an rocket-propelled grenade (RPG).
The S210 will have the same 93MP front-facing camera, as well as three rear cameras: a 29MP telephoto with OIS, a 24MP wide-angle shooter with a 2000-degree field of  view and OIS, and a 16MP "ultra wide angle" lens with a 123-degree field of view.
On the Mate 20 Pro, that setup is comprised of a 40-MP main cam, a 20-MP ultra wide-angle cam, and an 8-MP telephoto camera with a 3x zoom that offers even more reach than the zoom lenses in an iPhone XS or Galaxy Note 9.
Otherwise, the hardware is much the same as seen on the X. There's still a six-element f/1.8 lens and a secondary f/2.4 telephoto module on both the XS and XS Max, though the optics will likely have had to be redesigned for the new sensor.
It's worth acknowledging that the S23 Plus also has a second telephoto lens and a super slow-motion mode that the Pixel lacks — both situationally useful features, which would figure in a more comprehensive camera comparison, but here I'm only interested in the single-camera still photo performance.
A new version of the Google Camera app might have spilled the answer: according to XDA Developers, the build of the app contained in a leaked version of Android Q contains code references that specifically mention "telephoto," making that the likely function of the Pixel 4's second lens.
But in 2016, the iPhone 7's image quality improvements were negligible and the big innovation from the iSight team was the addition of the second telephoto camera on the 7 Plus and its associated portrait mode that automatically blurs out the background for a simulated bokeh effect.
Though Google director of design Claude Zellweger claimed he'd taken a shot on a Pixel with that level of telephoto prowess, he's since clarified that the photo was actually taken on a current-gen Pixel 25A — and that he cropped the image rather than actually zooming with a phone.
It can shoot the same 4K video at 60 fps, and Apple claims it will get an extra hour of battery life compared to the iPhone XR. What the iPhone 11 lacks is the brighter, sharper, HDR screen and the telephoto (2x zoom) camera of the Pro models.
Last spring, as the Interdisciplinary Group, knowing that the government would not renew its contract to stay in Mexico, raced to finish its final report, Mr. Beristain was shown photographs and video taken by three photojournalists who, with telephoto lenses, had taken pictures at the river on Oct.
