Yevgeniya Olegovna Kanayeva OMF (; born 2 April 1990) is a Russian retired individual rhythmic gymnast, known for her consistency, elegant routines and high level of technical difficulty. She is the only individual rhythmic gymnast in history to win two Olympic all-around gold medals, winning at the 2008 Summer Olympics, where she finished with 3.75 points ahead of silver medalist Inna Zhukova, and at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she also became the oldest gymnast to win the Olympic gold. On 4 July 2013, Kanayeva received the International Fair Play Award for "Sport and Life". Kanayeva holds the record for most World titles with seventeen and thirteen European titles.

In United States style foot orienteering, route choice is absent from White courses, limited in Yellow courses, and a crucial element in the design of more advanced courses. Given a choice of route, the competitor evaluates trade-offs among such factors as distance, amount of "climb" (vertical movement), degree and extent of "fight" (travel through obstructing vegetation), mode of travel, technical difficulty, and the competitor's own preferences. Among orienteering sports, route choice has varied importance. It is arguably the single most important tactical factor in rogaining, it is very important in mountain bike orienteering and ski orienteering, and it is less important in some other forms of orienteering.

There is the technical difficulty of achieving a large illumination area without destroying the imaging optics. One approach is the so-called spatiotemporal focusing in which the pulsed beam is spatially dispersed by a diffraction grating forming a 'rainbow' beam that is subsequently focused by an objective lens. One of the company's original aims was to look at developing links into existing mainline rail routes, by developing light rail services on existing branch lines. Each competition involves three teams of bakers, in which they have 9 hours to make cakes for a particular client—all of them must meet minimums on height and food content. Each cake is judged for three criteria: client satisfaction, technical difficulty and aesthetic appeal. In Africa, the summit of Mount Kenya () is a rock climb, while Mount Kilimanjaro () can be ascended without any technical difficulty. In North America, some sources consider Mount Logan a more difficult climb than Denali, although the climbing and outdoor recreation website Summitpost considers Logan no more difficult than Denali because it is neither technical nor steep. One slight technical difficulty that has occurred with this method is in outdoor areas of high humidity the tubes have clogged up with the beads from the moisture. One solution that was proposed and carried out to solve this issue is the use of “wet peening.” This process includes making a “slurry” of clean water and beads, increasing the moisture until it was no longer an issue and flowed smoothly through the tubes. The alpine routes in Romania are rated in the Russian grading system (itself adapted from the Welzenbach system), reflecting the overall difficulty of the route (while leaving out the technical difficulty of the hardest move). Nonetheless, it also presents great opportunities for characterisation and (at least before the appearance of the operas on the same subject by Puccini and Massenet) was one of the staples of the operatic repertoire – not only in France, but also in Germany. The role of the Marquis d'Herigny, written for the famous baritone, Jean-Baptiste Faure, also features several significant solos; but the tenor role of Des Grieux (given two major arias by Massenet and three by Puccini) lacks a major solo, although the character does participate in a series of fine duets, notably at the death of Manon near the end of the opera. One number in the score has retained its popularity with coloratura sopranos.

In several places, synchronization with the orchestra can be very difficult, due to the orchestral part often being offbeat to the soloist part. The second and third movements contain no significant technical difficulties, except perhaps for a more minor one in the form of awkward 16th note runs in both hands in the middle of the second movement. The greatest technical difficulty in the first movement is the 3 pages of continuous, rapid leaps in the form of 3-note chords stretched out over two octaves in 8th note triplets in the left hand, sometimes even surpassing two octaves, accompanied by quicksilver 8th note rapidly leaping triplet octaves, in the right hand, all at a tempo of presto. The final cadenza of the fourth movement is very difficult, containing the typical, very awkward fast runs, with big leaps and passages requiring 4th finger independence.
