Just as having your lead foot toed in is the worst possible way to take round kicks, it is also the worst possible way to take straight kicks because you are taking all of the force of the kick on the side of the knee.

Despite his long layoff, Ruddock got off to a great start, dropping Morrison with an uppercut less than a minute into the first round, though Morrison got back up immediately and continued the fight. Morrison bounced back to take round two, stunning Ruddock with an uppercut of his own. Ruddock grabbed the top rope to prevent himself from going down, causing the referee to give him a standing eight count as a result. Both fighters continued to trade power punches in rounds three and four, but Ruddock took control in round five, hurting Morrison with several left hooks and keeping him at bay with his jab.

Herlings' advantage was reduced to 23 points, but he elected to compete in the final round in Mexico. However, he could do no better than tenth in either race, with Tixier taking a win and a third place – winning the round in the process – to take his first world title, by just four points. The top three placings were completed by Romain Febvre, who achieved a race and round win in Goiânia. Max Anstie and Arnaud Tonus were the only other riders to take round wins – each winning one race – while race victories were also taken by Glenn Coldenhoff (two wins), Tim Gajser (two wins), Dylan Ferrandis and Christophe Charlier.

In his second season at MXGP level, Van Horebeek achieved his maiden race victory at Loket in the Czech Republic, and also took his first round win in the process. Third place in the final championship standings went to Suzuki's Kevin Strijbos, who won the other race at Loket. Fourth place went to another Suzuki rider, Clément Desalle, who won four rounds and seven races, but due to an injury suffered at Uddevalla, he missed four of the last five rounds. Other riders to take round victories were Gautier Paulin – book-ending the season with victories in the season-opening and season-closing rounds – and Maximilian Nagl, while both riders each won five races.

Despite heavy losses due to the only avenue of advance being a narrow lane lined with Parliamentarian musketeers, this move succeeded in allowing Byron to take Round Hill, forcing the Parliamentarian infantry back to a hedge on the far side. The attack eventually lost momentum, and although Round Hill was taken, Byron was unable to advance any further. On the right flank, William Vavasour attempted to overwhelm the Parliamentary flank with a substantial brigade of foot, which included a small amount of cavalry support. His initial attack was repulsed thanks to the Parliamentarian artillery opening fire, but a subsequent head-on attack forced Skippon's beleaguered force in the centre to send several regiments over to assist, with the fight turning into a bloody melee.

Altogether, the pseudotooth birds would have filled an ecological niche almost identical to that of the larger fish-eating pteranodontian pterosaurs, whose extinction at the end of the Cretaceous may well have paved the way for the highly successful 50-million-year reign of the Pelagornithidae. Like them as well as modern albatrosses, the pseudotooth birds could have used the system of ocean currents and atmospheric circulation to take round-track routes soaring over the open oceans, returning to breed only every few years. Unlike albatrosses today, which avoid the tropical equatorial currents with their doldrums, Pelagornithidae were found in all sorts of climates, and records from around 40 Ma stretch from Belgium through Togo to the Antarctic.

While Loachapoka had its own high school in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, by the 1930s students in Loachapoka attended high school at either Drake or Auburn High Schools in nearby Auburn."Three New Schools in Lee County", Opelika Daily News, May 17, 1923; Albert Burton Moore, History of Alabama and Her People, Vol. 3, (Chicago: American Historical Society, 1927), 344. In 1968, the Auburn City Schools ceased providing regular high school services for the Loachapoka area, and Loachapoka students were bused to Beauregard High School, so that students from the mostly African American Loachapoka area would have an opportunity to attend an integrated high school. Attendance at Beauregard, however, required some students to take round-trip bus rides of up to 96 miles daily; to limit this, the Lee County Schools Board of Education requested to expand the existing Loachapoka Junior High School (grades 7–10) to a full high school.
