In April 1995, during the recording of Sweet F.A., a fire broke out in the house owned by American Recordings, where the band were living and recording.

None of the members was injured, but their visiting friend Genesis P. Orridge of Psychic TV was injured whilst escaping the fire. The band lost their gear (a photo of a burnt guitar was used for the album cover of Sweet F.A.) and months of work on the album. There was a lengthy legal battle between the band, their label, and the label's insurance company.

These or cooking pots are still known as Fannys. By the mid-20th century, many working class men were pretending to their sons and social superiors that their own favored expression, "sweet F.A.", stood for "sweet Fanny Adams" with its commonplace meaning of total inaction or downtime, while they and their peers used that expression among themselves to mean "sweet fuck all". Sweet Fanny Adams has lingered as a euphemism for that expletive.

Another Sunday and Sweet F.A. is a television play (a one-off drama) written by Jack Rosenthal and directed by Michael Apted which was first broadcast on 9 January 1972 in Granada Television's Sunday Night Theatre strand. It stars David Swift, Freddie Fletcher, and Gordon McGrase. It also features Anne Kirkbride, who as a result of her performance was cast in Coronation Street in the role of Deirdre Barlow. The play won the TV Critics' Circle Best Play of the Year Award.

By 1974, Sweet had grown tired of the management team of Chinn and Chapman, who wrote the group's major hits and cultivated the band's glam rock image. The group and producer Phil Wainman, assisted by engineer Peter Coleman, recorded the album Sweet Fanny Adams, which was released in April 1974. Sweet's technical proficiency was demonstrated for the first time on self-penned hard rock tracks such as "Sweet F.A." and "Set Me Free". Sweet also adopted a more conventional hard rock sound and appearance.

Kirkbride was noticed by casting directors for the British soap opera Coronation Street when she acted in a Jack Rosenthal play, Another Sunday and Sweet F.A. (1972), for Granada Television. She played the bit part of Deirdre Hunt in Coronation Street from November 1972. The character's role grew and after further appearances in 1973, Kirkbride signed a contract with the serial in 1974. From then on, the character of Deirdre Barlow became infamous for her very large spectacles and her husky voice (a result of Kirkbride's own chain smoking).

Sweet F.A. mostly exchanged Hot Trip to Heaven's electronic sound for a harder rock sound, showcasing more conventional songwriting. Despite the presence of loud guitars common to the airwaves in the late 1990s ("Sweet Lover Hangover" was a minor alternative radio hit), the album follows the structure of a classic head album, growing more experimental and disjointed as it progresses, culminating in the aggressive electronic dance of "Here Come the Comedown" and the chaotic "Spiked". The title refers to "Sweet Fuck-All," a modern variant of "Sweet Fanny Adams", which is common British naval slang for "nothing". "Fuck all else" is prominently sung by Daniel Ash throughout the title track.

Since the early 1970s, Brown has had a successful acting career in television and film, one of his early roles being in the Ken Loach's film Kes (1969), based on a novel by Barry Hines, in which he played a milkman, his sister Lynne Perrie also starred as the lead character's mother. He appeared in Jack Rosenthal's Another Sunday and Sweet F.A. (1972), which was part of Granada Television's Sunday Night Theatre series. He also appeared in the film For the Love of Ada (also 1972), the big screen spin-off of the television series of the same name. He worked alongside his sister (Perrie) again, in Colin Welland's factory drama Leeds United (1974) in the BBC's Play For Today series.

Lift overlooked the harder rock of Sweet F.A. in favor of Hot Trip to Heaven's electronic sound. The album produced three singles: the club-oriented "Resurrection Hex", which features samples of Bauhaus' "Stigmata Martyr" and "In the Night"; the pop-oriented "Holy Fool", featuring background vocals by Luscious Jackson's Jill Cunniff; and the promo-only, acronym-laden electronica trip "R.I.P. 20 C." The sound and title of "Resurrection Hex" instantly fed rumors of a much-anticipated Bauhaus reunion, which was officially announced almost immediately upon release of the record. The simultaneous bankruptcy of the Red Ant Records label — on which Peter Murphy was also an artist — and the subsequent success of the 1998–99 Bauhaus Resurrection tour led to the ultimate demise of Love and Rockets as a project.

Born in Sheffield, West Riding of Yorkshire, Littler trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London and started her career working in repertory in provincial theatres around Britain, including Bolton, Darlington, Plymouth and Nottingham. She made her first television appearance in a 1970 ITV Playhouse production Don't Touch Him, He Might Resent It, followed by Another Sunday and Sweet F.A. (1972), a Jack Rosenthal football-based drama also for ITV. During the early 1970s, Littler played roles of varying sizes in several of the most popular British TV shows of the time, including the soap operas Coronation Street and Emmerdale Farm, police dramas Z-Cars, Softly, Softly: Taskforce and New Scotland Yard, comedies The Liver Birds and Porridge, and prison drama Within These Walls. More substantial roles came in Trinity Tales (1975), Alan Plater's contemporary reworking of The Canterbury Tales and marriage guidance serial Couples (1975–76).
