Bruner tried asserting that 50 percent of Texas students are in a special education program, that only one in six public school graduates can read with fluency and comprehension, and that one school district started the year with 91 full- time substitute teachers. At each of these statements, different audience members interrupted Bruner's speech to inform her that her statements were not factual. After an audience member stood up and suggested to Bruner that she visit with superintendents in the area, to which Bruner replied that she had, the local county superintendent stood up and informed Bruner that she had never attempted to meet with her. In the runoff election of May 24, 2016, Bruner was defeated by a wide margin by Ellis.

In a 1990 interview, Hall was asked if the "Sniglets books [were] completely for comic value?" He answered, Anne Wescott Dodd's A Handbook for Substitute Teachers (1989) and Marcia L. Tate's Reading and Language Arts Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites: 20 Literacy Strategies That Engage the Brain (2005) suggest creating sniglets as a classroom activity, and so bear out his claim. Popular English language experts such as Richard Lederer and Barbara Wallraff have noted sniglets in their books, The Miracle of Language and Word Court: Wherein Verbal Virtue Is Rewarded, Crimes Against the Language Are Punished, and Poetic Justice Is Done, respectively. The idea has been borrowed by Barbara Wallraff for her book Word Fugitives: In Pursuit of Wanted Words, where "word fugitives" is her term for invented words.

The parent-teacher association began a petition to submit to the governor requesting the removal of the board, amongst allegations that similarly worded and appearing petitions were being circulated to gain praise for the board. On the evening of February 2, a burning cross was found on the athletic field. At a board meeting in March, a citizen identified himself as a member of the Ku Klux Klan, and informed the board that "As an organization we are watching developments ..." The interim superintendent recommended immediate austerity measures, punctuated by a reduction in staffing, including the elimination of 20 of the 40 office clerks, several custodial personnel, and the elimination of all teacher-clerks (permanent substitute teachers). The board was also forced to deal with being voted out of the Suburban League.

Senator Manar’s Spring 2018 legislative victories include the passage of a bill to provide every school in Illinois with high-speed broadband internet, a package of measures to combat the shortage of qualified substitute teachers in Illinois, and a law which would raise the minimum wage of Illinois teachers from $9,000 per year to $32,000 per year. Outside of the General Assembly chambers, Senator Manar has been active in advocating on behalf of the communities of his district. Andy has publicly advocated to hold the Bruce Rauner administration responsible, including commissioning and publicizing a report revealing the financial mismanagement of state warehouse leasing. Senator Manar brought together Lewis and Clark Community College and the University of Illinois to establish a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program in Godfrey.

1929 crash (here, crowd gathers at Wall Street and Broad Street) With the Great Depression, however, CPUSA membership grew, reflected in TU membership by 1932. Another split occurred when leadership strove to keep TU membership limited to full-time public school teachers, while other members began advocating to open membership to substitute teachers, private school teachers, and (after 1929) teachers in the New Deal Work Projects Administration. In the 1930s during the Great Depression, the CPUSA began to make headway in its control as its members struggled internally with less leftist, more liberal fellow members of the Teachers Union. On October 27, 1932, the TU administration choose a Committee of Five to deliberate on five members of the "Rank and File" group (Joseph Leboit, Clara Reiber, Alice Citron, Abraham Zitron, and Isidore Begun) and one member of the "Progressive" group (Bertram Wolfe).
