Though Spencer Compton, Earl of Northampton, was a royalist (Cavalier) and backed King Charles I, the people of Northampton supported Parliament and Oliver Cromwell's republican Roundhead army. The town had a long history of religious dissent from the Lollards and Puritanism gained a strong hold on the town. The corporation of the town, having already refused to provide troops to the King in 1632 or to pay the notorious ship money tax in 1636, petitioned Parliament in 1642 against papists and bishops.

In Spain, Mourvèdre is called Monastrell and was the fourth most widely planted red wine grape variety with in 2015. Like many other Spanish varieties, its numbers have been declining in recent years (in 1996 there was over 100,000 ha/250,000 of the vine planted in SpainJ. Confucian art originated in China, then spread westwards on the Silk road, southward down to southern China and then onto Southeast Asia, and eastwards through northern China on to Japan and Korea.

Yet, the political fragmentation in Mexico suggests that no single entity has strategic dominance over the company, especially after the 2000 elections. On 1 November 1943, US forces had landed around Cape Torokina as part of the Allied advance north through the Solomon Islands towards the Japanese strong hold around Rabaul, on New Britain, as part of Operation Cartwheel. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen or AIMIM (translation: "All India Council for Unity of Muslims") is an Indian regional political party based in the Indian state of Telangana, with its head office in the Aghapura Hyderabad Telangana, India, which has its roots in the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. AIMIM formally MIM strongly advocated the set up of a "Muslim dominion" rather than integration with India but later after integration of Hydrabad in India the organisation changed their stance but still remained a party dominated by strong hold of Islamic ideology. AIMIM has held the Lok Sabha seat for the Hyderabad constituency since 1984. The proponents of industrial unionism, on the other hand, generally believed that craft distinctions may have been appropriate in those industries in which craft unions had flourished, such as construction or printing, but they were unworkable in industries such as steel or auto production. In their view, dividing workers in a single plant into a number of different crafts represented by separate organizations, each with its own agenda, would weaken the workers' bargaining power and leave the majority, who had few traditional craft skills, completely unrepresented. While the AFL had always included a number of industrial unions, such as the United Mine Workers and the Brewery Workers, the most dogmatic craft unionists had a strong hold on power within the federation by the 1930s. The city of Mecca was sacked by the Umayyad general al-Ḥajjāj ibn Yūsuf, and thereafter the city, and at the time, the region, acknowledged the power of the Umayyad caliphate at Damascus and, following the eclipse of that dynasty, of the ʿAbbāsid caliphate of Baghdad. The city suffered great indignity at the hands of the Shīʿite Qarmatians in 930 when that sect’s leader Ṭāhir Sulaymān pillaged Mecca and carried off the Black Stone from the Kaʿbah. Beginning in the mid-10th century, the rulers of the city were chosen from the sharifs, or descendants of Muhammad, who retained a strong hold on the surrounding region while often paying homage to stronger political entities. The ability of the sharifs, originally moderate Shīʿites, to adapt to the changing political and religious climate ensured their preeminence in local affairs for the next 1,000 years.

Hauts-de-Seine's 1st constituency was created in 1967 at the same time as the department itself which had previously been part of the department of Seine. The seat includes the north of Colombes and the neighbouring suburb of Gennevilliers it also contains a vast the port and industrial complex on the south bank of the Seine river. The constituency had been a strong hold of the French Communist Party for its entire existence, this changed at the 2012 election when the incumbent communist Roland Muzeau came second in the first round and withdrew rather than stand against the Socialist Party candidate. However, the constituency came back to its historical political position in 2017 : the communist candidate, Elsa Faucillon, was elected against a candidate from the party of the president, Emmanuel Macron, while the incumbent was eliminated from the 1st round with only 9% of the votes.

On Saturday 11 March 1899 at approximately 2:40am the Adelaide Cyclorama was found to be on fire by Police Constable John Sweeny who was on duty patrolling Currie Street East and noticed a fire coming from the Cyclorama building. He ran down to Hindley Street where he saw that the fire had taken good hold of the building and immediately told another on duty officer Constable Deacon to get the fire brigade to the building, who received this call at 2:44am. Passing by on his bicycle was Detective Jones, who rode to the fire alarm located on Hindley Streetand smashed the glass to sound it. The fire reportedly had a strong hold on the building though the account was made that it was remarkable that the flames did not reach greater height considering the interior was inflammable, likely due to the lack of wind that morning.

Two companies from the 15th Battalion led the advance, setting out from Sisikatekori, while the 47th Battalion positioned a company along the river near a track dubbed "Lawne's Track", and the 42nd sat stride the Buin Road, just short of the Mobiai River. The brigade's efforts to secure a crossing over the Silibai River were frustrated by determined Japanese defence which held them up between 3 and 10 July, when the Australians successfully pushed their way across. Temporary positions were then established on the opposite bank and the patrols began ranging south towards the Oamai River; further advances, though, were hampered by heavy rain, which held up the advance on the Japanese strong hold around Buin until the end of the war. The brigade's headquarters was disbanded in December 1945; its component units subsequently returned to Australia where they were disbanded during the early months of 1946.

Despite having huge market value and a strong hold in the typical Southern European diet, several health risks are associated with consumption of the black scabbardish due to the presence of several toxic metals found within the fish, including lead, mercury, and cadmium. Even in very small quantities, these metals can be deadly to humans if consumed. However, according to standards set by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agricultural Organization, as long as the liver is not consumed, no real health risks exist in consuming the black scabbardish in moderation. The levels of toxic metals found in the fish were: Liver: between 2.37 mg/kg and 4.5 mg/kg of mercury found Skin: between 0.36 mg/kg and 0.59 mg/kg of mercury found 0.11 mg/kg of cadmium found Muscle: 0.9 mg/kg mercury found, 0.09 mg/kg maximum cadmium levels found In every sample, the lead found was less than 0.10 mg/kg.

A movement in Swiss, eastern French, German, and Dutch Protestant history known as le Réveil (German: die Erweckung, Dutch: Het Reveil).. Le Réveil was a revival of Protestant Christianity along conservative evangelical lines at a time when rationalism had taken a strong hold in the churches on the continent of Europe. In German-speaking Europe Lutheran Johann Georg Hamann (1730–88) was a leading light in the new wave of evangelicalism, the Erweckung, which spread across the land, cross-fertilizing with British movements The movement began in the Francophone world in connection with a circle of pastors and seminarians at French-speaking Protestant theological seminaries in Geneva, Switzerland and Montauban, France, influenced inter alia by the visit of Scottish Christian Robert Haldane in 1816–17. The circle included such figures as Merle D'Aubigne, César Malan, Felix Neff, and the Monod brothers. As these men travelled out, the movement spread to Lyon and Paris in France, to Berlin and Eberfeld in Germany and to the Netherlands.

The Battle of the Pimple was part of the Markham and Ramu Valley – Finisterre Range campaign, which consisted of a number of battles fought by Australian and Japanese troops in Papua New Guinea in World War II. Fought on 27 and 28 December 1943, the battle took place as the Australians advanced towards the Japanese strong hold around Shaggy Ridge, and was a preliminary phase in their eventual capture of that position in January 1944. Supported by artillery, mortars, machine guns and fighter-bomber aircraft, the assault was made across a narrow frontage, which was usually not much wider than a single section. Two companies of Australian infantry were committed to the attack, with one securing the initial crest, while the other exploited the position and secured several other smaller features throughout the two days of fighting. In the aftermath, Japanese artillery harassed the Australians holding the position, and subjected them to several counter-attacks, which were eventually defeated.

It was in the late 1960s when Calinog stepped on the springboard of development as a progressive Municipality bustling with business and economic opportunities. In 1969, with the sugar industry boom, the political leadership decided to split a portion of the town into a separate municipality, the Municipality of Bingawan. Among the founders of the old communities in the uplands were the descendants of the families who fought the abusive Spanish colonizers in the settlements of Bugasong and Lawaan, Province of Antique, in the 16th Century (their colorful folklore and the oral tradition of their historical journeys became a part of the timeless epic, “Hinilawod”). Mt. Dila Dila in Barangay Alibunan is best remembered as a strong hold of Filipino guerillas and soldiers during World War II under the command of a Calinognon Major Julian C. Chaves where the fiercest battles in the annals of war in the Island of Panay were fought against the Japanese Imperial Army.

The mountain was a strong hold of the Nestorian Christians, who's Diocese ceased to exist after the 17th. century. The first of many campaigns by the Ottoman Turks, against the Yezidis of the Mountain, called by the Turks "THE SACLI DAGH", the mountain of the "HAIRY ONE'S", was carried by Melek Ahmad Pasha, the Vali of Diyarbekir [ 1640], the second by the Ottoman Firari Mustapha, the last occupation was in 1918, and directed against Hamu Sharu, the Sheikh of the Fuqara Yezidis, who refused to hand in the Christians refugees who sought shelter in the mountain from S.E.Turkey. Her son Charles (1672–1723) was created Duke of Richmond in 1675.

On 1 November 1911, he joined the army General Staff.. Norway was neutral in the First World War; Quisling detested the peace movement, though the high human cost of the war did temper his views.. In March 1918, he was sent to Russia as an attaché at the Norwegian legation in Petrograd, to take advantage of the five years he had spent studying the country. Though dismayed at the living conditions he experienced, Quisling nonetheless concluded that "the Bolsheviks have got an extraordinarily strong hold on Russian society" and marvelled at how Leon Trotsky had managed to mobilise the Red Army forces so well;. by contrast, in granting too many rights to the people of Russia, the Russian Provisional Government under Alexander Kerensky had brought about its own downfall.

They were at Nana Akufo-Addo’s Nima residence to inform him about the election of Mavis in the just ended NPP parliamentary primaries. Nana Addo congratulated the aspirant for winning the primary and said that was just the beginning because the real race was the December 7, 2016 elections. Nana Akufo-Addo told the young lady that the Afigya Kwabre East Constituency was very dear to the heart of the party, not only because it was in the party’s strong hold but also the fact that it was once held by Mr Victor Owusu, a pioneering member of the Busia-Dankwa-Dombo tradition.

Begum/Maa/Aapa Begum (Shagufta Ejaz) is an overbearing woman who runs her household, of numerous servants and children, with an iron fist. Beghum fails to see any shortcomings in her son and remains adamant that she won't quit pampering him, going as far as saying: “Agar wo chand sitaray bhi mangenge tou mai aasman se tordh ke laongi.” In stark contrast to Paras, Iman (Fatima Effendi), daughter of Beghum's servant Munawwar (Sohail Aghar), is a bold confident girl who flies kites, plays cricket and shuns hand-me-downs given to her by Beghum.
