Roker also began writing with De Paul's partner Barry Blue, (with whom he is often confused) notably on the song, "Do You Wanna Dance", a Top Ten hit at the end of 1973, as well as some album tracks. The three of them also wrote "Sugarloaf Hill" released as a single by Del Davis.

Byrne later said that while management still weren't happy with him, the issue had been reconciled and his colleagues had even handed him a "Storm in a Teacup" award after the incident, which consisted of a cut-out of a Melbourne Storm player in an actual teacup. While the news anchor and sports presenter relocated to commence work at WIN's new production facilities at Maroochydore, Byrne decided to stay in the local area effectively ending his relationship with 22-year relationship with WIN Television. On his final night on 4 May 2012, WIN Television aired a special package featuring tributes from former colleagues that had previously worked at WIN Television in Rockhampton such as Karl Stefanovic, Leila McKinnon and Davina Smith.

However, Shaw refused to intervene in the matter or declare on the correctness of an association dismissing one of its appointed advisory panels. In the same article the playwright and former literary panel member Barry Collins said that political interference from the local councils that dominated the association executive had been increasing over the recent months. The following week it was reported in the Yorkshire Post that Collins (who had been the previous year’s recipient) had also resigned as a judge for the annual YAA Literature Prize. He said, “If I am not fit to be a panel member than I’m not fit to judge their competition either…The last thing a contemporary writer, film-maker or artist should do is restrict his work to the tastes of whoever happens to have been elected in the most recent council election…” Nuttall was quoted in the same article, saying that it had all been “a storm in a teacup” until the YAA had sacked the panel. “I have written filth in my time, rotten, sordid, aggressive filth, punk razor stuff 20 years before its time.
