The current research on assessing and attributing this phenomenon has focused on reducing the limitation of short availability and low quality of wind speed data. The European funded research project STILLING is a current (2016–2018) initiative that aims to reduce this constraint by rescuing, homogenizing and recovering the longest and highest-quality wind speed series across the globe. The project is currently compiling wind speed records starting in the 1880s providing scientists with approximately 130-year records, roughly 80 years more than previous studies available in the scientific literature. The better knowledge of the past wind speed climate is crucial for understanding the present "global terrestrial stilling" phenomenon, detecting if climate change is behind this slowdown of wind or similar trends-cycles occurred in the past and could be expected for the future.

The velocity of water that impinges at the surface point is one of the causes of cavitation. Also, the increase height of spillways on high dams leads to an increase of cavitation caused by nappe flow.
Stilling made important contributions in the field of neurology. He performed research involving the structure of the cerebellum, as well as histological studies of the pons. In 1840 he made first mention of vasomotor nerves in a treatise titled Physiologisch-pathologische und medicinisch- praktische Untersuchungen über die Spinal-Irritation. Also, he is remembered for introducing a procedure of serial-section portrayal (thin slicing) of spinal cord specimens for histological study.
Outlet works through the dam, including a stilling well, empty directly into the river and the Kirwin Main Canal. When the reservoir is at maximum water surface elevation, the spillway has a discharge capacity of . The canal outlet has a discharge capacity of , and the river outlet has a capacity of . The Kirwin Main Canal extends east from the dam for on the north side of the river.
The first is Asana, which is the assumption (after eventual success) of any easy, steady and comfortable posture. Next is Pranayama, which is the control of breath, and Mantra yoga, which is the use of mantras. Yama and Niyama are the adopted moral or behavioural codes (of the adept's choosing) that will be least likely to excite the mind. Pratyahara is the stilling of the thoughts so that the mind becomes quiet.
The case was then settled, the Jury discharged, and the Court rose. Chandler and Evans were sued for libel in 1892 by Stilling Duff and Frank Gerald, theatrical agents and performers, for an article which accused them of appropriating funds promised for the Broken Hill Fire Brigade. After a trial before Justice James Boucaut which focussed on whether Chandler and Evans were or were not proprietors of the newspaper, the jury found for the defendants.
The "global terrestrial stilling" is not affecting in the same way the whole Earth's surface across both land and ocean surfaces. Spatially, increasing wind speed trends have been reported for some regions, in particular for high- latitudes,Minola L, Azorin-Molina C, Chen D (2016) Homogenization and assessment of observed near-surface wind speed trends across Sweden, 1956–2013. Maglekilde Spa in 1847 The grotto The disused industrial complex was acquired by a group of citizens from Roskilde in 1846. They demolished the buildings, filled the mill pond and built a combined spa and mineral water factory on the site. The complex was designed by the architect Hans Conrad Stilling. The water was directed through a closed ditch to a grotto on Maglekildevej where it sprang from the mouth of a Neptune figure.
Holtsmark became the first female professor in Old Norse at the University of Oslo.Anne Holtsmark , Alma Maters døtre 1882-1982: Kvinner ansatt i vitenskaplig stilling på Universitetet i Oslo 1900 – 1940. She worked at the University Library of Oslo until 1930, except for 1925-26, when she was a docent in Norwegian at the University of Hamburg for a year. In 1931 she was hired as a docent in Norse philology at the University.
The crest width is 30 feet (9 m), and the crest length is 9,900 feet (3 km). The structural height of the dam is 122 feet (37 m). Fort Cobb Reservoir has a total capacity of and covers an area of 5956 acres (24.1 km²) at top of flood pool level. The uncontrolled morning-glory spillway in the left abutment consists of a concrete intake structure, concrete conduit, and concrete chute and stilling basin.
Another concert hall, Odeon, which opened the same year as Alhambra, was converted into the Frederiksberg Entertainment Theatre in 1869. Sommerlyst's old main building was torn down in 1855 and replaced with a larger one which contained a theatre and concert space. It was designed by H. C. Stilling who had also worked for Tivoli and Alhambra. Frederiksberg Allé on an undated drawing Other popular venues were Valhalla, Schweizer Pavillon, Sankt Thomas and Rosenfryd.
A big social event was the picnic races and over 200 people attended the Michelago Public School picnic in 1906.Vincent, P., p 58. During the 1930-50's eucalyptus stilling was a profitable occupation in the Tinderry Range above Michelago and a drum of eucalyptus oil (44 gallons or 200L) was worth 100 pounds on site in the 1940s.Lisa Ryrie. 'Treasures in the Tinderrys' in Michelago Independent newspaper Issue 16, August 1997 p1.
The dam stands in an area where sandstone and shale overlay pre-Cambrian granite, schist and gneiss. It is situated at a narrows in the river valley where the Gunnison enters the upper reaches of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The dam has a volume of and the spillway intake structure has two radial gates. These discharge into a concrete-lined tunnel which in turn discharges through a flip bucket into a stilling basin.
Lovewell Dam is an earth-fill embankment dam with a structural height of and a length of . At its crest, the dam has an elevation of . A concrete spillway controlled by two radial gates is located at the south end of the dam and empties into the creek. Just south of the spillway is a gated wasteway outlet controlled by one radial gate which empties into a short outlet canal and stilling basin.
13 Stilling-Solbjerg Lake has a diverse flora and fauna. There are 13 registered species of vegetation, although coverage is only some 2% of the lake bottom and it is unstable due to the high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen. There are a total of 10 fish species including pike, rudd, roach, bream, perch, Zander, European eel, gasterosteiformes and burbot. The dominating species are roach and perch while Zander is well established.
Those most concerned with these changes were looking toward North America as a resettlement option. There was widespread distribution of chiliastic writings by prophetic authors such as Jung Stilling and others among the Mennonite colonies. It was in this uncertain environment that Epp distributed a self-published book in 1877 in which he put forth his own prophetic interpretation of the Bible. Epp predicted that Christ would return in 1889 and meet the faithful in central Asia.
Creation of a self- regulating ecosystem that is native to the region is of primary importance to the program. BMPs used in the bluebelt include stormwater wetlands, stream restoration, outlet stilling basins, and sand filters. Ninety-two stormwater wetlands were included as part of the Staten Island project. In order to integrate the wetlands into the natural ecology, the construction process is advised by restoration specialists since general contractors are typically not trained in proper plant selection and installation.
The dam, powerplant and reservoir are contained in pre-Cambrian metamorphic rocks, primarily micaceous quartzite, quartz-mica, mica and biotite schists, with granitic veining. The dam site is in a narrow canyon about wide at the river and wide at the top. The spillway discharge falls into a stilling basin whose waters are retained by a weir below the dam. Intake structures near the south abutment feed two diameter penstock tunnels with steel linings leading to the powerplant.
It is built as an embankment dam with a rock-fill concrete- face on the upstream side. The volumetric content of the dam structure is 7.5 million m³. The dam has a length of with a wide crest. The spillway, located on the left bank of the dam, is not gated and flood is routed over the crest of the ogee shaped spillway through a concrete lined chute with a flip bucket and a stilling basin at its terminus.
In his book Biological Stains, Conn describes gentian violet as a "poorly defined mixture of violet rosanilins". The German ophthalmologist Jakob Stilling is credited with discovering the antiseptic properties of gentian violet. He published a monograph in 1890 on the bactericidal effects of a solution that he christened "pyoktanin", which was probably a mixture of aniline dyes similar to gentian violet. He set up a collaboration with E. Merck & Co. to market "Pyoktanin caeruleum" as an antiseptic.
Schønbergsgade seen on a map detail from 1890 In circa 1803,court inspector Hans Henrik Schønberg (1785-1845) bought a large piece of land at the site. In 1845, Schønberg's heirs sold it to a consortium consisting of the architect Harald Conrad Stilling and three partners. In 1852, the so-called Demarcation Line was moved from Falkoner Allé to the Lakes, paving the way for redevelopment of the area. The streets Schønbergsgade, Scnouwsgade (from 1882: Vodroffs Tværgade) and Danmarksgade was subsequently established.

Chavers distinguished himself as a navigator during the Vietnam War. He flew 138 missions and received the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and eight other awards.Dean Chavers , The Lumbee Indians, an Annotated Bibliography Supplement by Glenn Starr Stilling He also spent 30 years as a newspaper columnist and participated in the famed Indian occupation of Alcatraz Island in 1969.
Melcher is also known for his friendship with American poet Robert Frost. The University of Virginia Library is home to the Frederic G. Melcher–Robert Frost Collection, which covers various photos and writings from the two men from 1865-1963. In 2006, a University of Virginia graduate student who was completing a thesis on the poetry of Frost discovered a previously unpublished poem, inscribed by Frost on the inside cover of a book Frost had given to Melcher in 1918.Stilling, Robert (2006).
Sorpe location in Germany The Sorpe Dam is situated to the north of the Homert natural park, south-west of the city of Arnsberg in an area belonging to the borough of Sundern (Sauerland) between the villages of Langscheid (at the dam) and Amecke. It is supplied by the Sorpe stream. About once a year in spring, the reservoir runs over into the spillway, generating massive whitewater down the cascades to the stilling basin that draws crowds of spectators for a few days.
It was originally designed for a normal operating pool of , and the lake had approximately of shoreline. The existing spillway has a crest length of . To increase the safe yield of the reservoir, Spartanburg Water System raised the level of Lake Blalock by , increasing the water surface elevation to in 2004. This project was completed in 2006 and involved overlaying the existing earthen dam with a layer of roller compacted concrete, approximately in thickness, and constructing a new RCC stilling basin.
A U.S. Bureau of Reclamation type-III stilling basin As water passes over a spillway and down the chute, potential energy converts into increasing kinetic energy. Failure to dissipate the water's energy can lead to scouring and erosion at the dam's toe (base). This can cause spillway damage and undermine the dam's stability. To put this energy in perspective, the spillways at Tarbela Dam could, at full capacity, produce 40,000 MW; about 10 times the capacity of its power plant.
Schønbergsgade 15 The four-storey apartment building at No. 15 is from 1857 and was designed by Harald Conrad Stilling. The building was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1977. The building at No. 7.9 is from 1857 and was either designed by Vilhelm Klein (1835-1913) or Henrik Sibbern (1826-1901). Gammel Kongevejsgården (Gammel Kongevej 74D-76 og Schønbergsgade 2-4), a Functionalist housing estate, was built in 1938-39 og to designs by Frits Schlegel and Magnus L. Stephensen.
Although similar in purpose to spillways, outlet works provide a more controlled release to meet downstream flow requirements. A typical set of outlet works begins in an intake structure, which is usually a canal or intake tower. A regulating gate or valve controls water flow into the pipes of the outlet works, which discharge downstream into a stilling basin or directly into the river. The inlets of the outlet works may consist of either gates or valves, or be composed of a more primitive system of stoplogs.
The usage of illustrations in histology, deemed as useless by Bichat, was promoted by Jean Cruveilhier. In the early 1830s Purkynĕ invented a microtome with high precision. During the 19th century many fixation techniques were developed by Adolph Hannover (solutions of chromates and chromic acid), Franz Schulze and Max Schultze (osmic acid), Alexander Butlerov (formaldehyde) and Benedikt Stilling (freezing). Mounting techniques were developed by Rudolf Heidenhain (gum Arabic), Salomon Stricker (mixture of wax and oil), Andrew Pritchard (gum and isinglass) and Edwin Klebs (Canada balsam).
The Söse Reservoir has a pre-dam (Vorsperre) upstream, which is 200 m long and 20 m high and has a volume of 0.75 million m³. Its reservoir acts as a sediment trap to catch any particles in the river before they get to the main reservoir. In addition there is also a stilling basin (Ausgleichsbecken) below the primary dam, with a 10 m high dam wall, which controls any irregularity arising from the flow of water through the primary dam, power station and waterworks.
The spillway is designed with an ogee crest to allow controlled discharge of surplus water from the watershed. The lake is also designed with an emergency spillway that would discharge excess floodwater away from the toe of the dam to ensure a safe operation in flooding conditions. The local fishing club provides an annual fish rescue for gamefish that have escaped the lake flowing over the spillway throughout the year. The rescue is performed below the dam in the stilling basin before entering the creek below.
He also developed a silver chloride electrode and experimented on adding colour tones to the Daguerre photographic process. At Calcutta, he was a member of the Medical and Physical Society of Calcutta, where he published one of his first papers on medical applications of cannabis. He validated folk uses of cannabis in India, discovered new applications, and ultimately recommended cannabis for a great variety of therapeutic purposes. O'Shaughnessy established his reputation by successfully relieving the pain of rheumatism and stilling the convulsions of an infant with cannabis.
The jailhouse wing seen from the square Møller's rendering was a copy of a rendering from 1803 made by the Viborg architect Willads Stilling for a new town hall in Nykøbing Mors. It is unclear how much of the original design has survived since the rendering has been lost and no images from before the 1868 renovation exist. The gabled wall dormer above the main entrance dates from the renovation, and it is believed that all the other decorations on the facade do so as well.
The interview determined the direction of the baroness's religious development. A short visit to the Moravians at Herrnhut followed; then she went, via Dresden, to Karlsruhe, to sit at the feet of Heinrich Jung-Stilling who had great influence at the court of Baden and Stockholm and St. Petersburg. The consorts of Alexander I of Russia (Elizabeth Alexeievna), and of Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden (Friederike Dorothea), were princesses of Baden. By him she was instructed in the chiliastic faith and in the mysteries of the supernatural world.
Afterwards, the women return to Terry's house and a drunk Lorraine attempts to seduce Renay, but is met with rejection and leaves. Renay then finds Jerome Lee in the kitchen, who learns of Renay's sexuality after seeing Lorraine kiss her and overhearing their conversation about Terry. After demanding to know where Denise is, Jerome Lee beats her nearly to death and leaves her bleeding and unconscious on the floor. Edith Stilling, a friendly neighbor and widow, finds Renay alive but severely beaten, but with no severe injuries.
The Channel enters a pipe near Contour road, Roleystone Pipeline crossing the Turner Road valley The channel starts at a stilling chamber on the north bank of the Canning river, just below the Canning Dam. After just over 200 meters, it enters a siphon to cross the Canning river. It then flows alongside McNess Drive down the Canning valley. A siphon is used to cross McNess Drive near the junction with Bristol Road and it also crosses the Canning river to the North bank.
OCEMA maintains a series of flood retarding basins along the Carbon Creek Channel downstream of Carbon Canyon Dam. These basins are used to retard flood flows in the urbanized area downstream of Carbon Canyon Dam. The Carbon Canyon Diversion Channel serves to relay water from the Miller Basin Complex to the Santa Ana River. Miller Stilling Basin, the most upstream of the facilities, is the location point from which flow from Carbon Canyon Channel is diverted into Carbon Canyon Diversion Channel or Carbon Creek Channel.
They never returned to Australia. F. J. Beck, J. Hallett and Joseph Stilling (c. 1823–1863) were appointed Adelaide management of Adelaide Land and Gold Co., a French company, in July 1853, and in August the same year F. J. Beck, John Morphett and George Elder (1816–1897) founded South Australian Lloyds, on the principle of Lloyds of London. A third brother, John Beck (c. 1826 – 22 November 1903), arrived in Adelaide around the same time, perhaps the John Beck who arrived with his wife (no details known) aboard Brightman January 1850.
Noltenius was born in Bremen, and arrived in South Australia in September 1843 aboard Madras from London. In 1848 he joined the firm of Joseph Stilling & Co., then in June 1859 left and founded Noltenius and Co., wine and spirit merchants of 75 King William Street. Was he involved with brother B. A. Noltenius in Noltenius, Meyer & Co. (founded c. 1848)? Noltenius purchased the Halifax Street brewery from W. H. Clark in February 1858, and five months later took on W. K. Simms as a partner, then sold him his share of the business.
In the last few years, a break in this terrestrial decrease of wind speed has been detected suggesting a recovery at global scales since 2013.Dunn RJH, Azorin-Molina C, Mears CA, Berrisford P, McVicar TR (2016) Surface winds. In State of the Climate 2015, Bull Amer Meteor Soc 97 (8): S38-S40. The exact cause(s) of the global terrestrial stilling are uncertain and has been mainly attributed to two major drivers: (i) changes in large scale atmospheric circulation, and (ii) an increase of surface roughness due to e.g.
Skanderborg is a town in Skanderborg municipality, Denmark. It is situated on the north and north eastern brinks of Skanderborg Lake and there are several smaller ponds and bodies of water within the city itself, like Lillesø, Sortesø, Døj Sø and the swampy boglands of Eskebæk Mose. Just north of the town on the other side of Expressway E45, is the archaeologically important Illerup Ådal. Over time, the town has grown into a suburb of Aarhus to the north east, connected by the urban areas of Stilling, Hørning and Hasselager.
A reservoir management plan envisages fish farming and reservoir operation and maintenance along the periphery of the reservoir and its tributaries. Two bottom outlets in the form of steel pipes of diameter, each of length have been provided in the body of the dam which facilitates emptying of the reservoir in any emergency; it takes about 11–12 hours to empty the reservoir. The outlets have been provided with slide gate controls on the downstream end. The stilling basin of the spillway is also used for energy dissipation of the outflows from the bottom outlets.
Spring Creek Dam releasing floodwaters in November 1994. The chute at right is the spillway and the outlet works is visible to the left. The Spring Creek Dam is able to release up to of water per second from the Spring Creek Reservoir, through a crest spillway and outlet works. The spillway begins on the left bank of the dam at elevation , and drops roughly in vertical distance down the face of the dam into a stilling basin, before flowing into Spring Creek and into the Sacramento River.
In 1805 he moved to take up a position at Heidelberg University as Professor for Oriental Literature and Biblical criticism. Heidelberg was being combined into a new Grand Duchy of Baden and Bauer's appointment came as part of a larger reconfiguration of the city's venerable university. Bauer was appointed to the university post despite a warning by Jung-Stilling that he had a "scandalous past", a reference to Bauer's known criticism of religious revelationism. In 1805 Bauer also became "Kirchenrat", an important administrative position in the church locally.
The weakened downstream face lost of material that slid into the stilling basin, accompanied by continuing water flow, a condition known as "hydraulic piping." Work began the next day to lower the reservoir, with a 24-hour watch on the dam. The wet spot became a waterspout, flowing at a rate of between 10 and 12 million gallons per day. On September 6 a by sinkhole developed on the upstream face of the dam's crest, which workers immediately filled with riprap bulldozed from the nearby dam surface into the hole.
In 1846 neurologist Benedict Stilling first referred to what is now known as the MLF as the acusticus, followed by Theodor Meynert in 1872 calling it posterior. But in 1891, Heinrich Schutz chose the name dorsal to describe the longitudinal bundle, "for brevity's sake". This name stuck despite other authors attempting further renaming (Ramon y Cajal's periependymal in 1904, Theodor Ziehen's nubecula dorsalis in 1913). But finally, it was Wilhelm His Sr. who changed the name to medial for the sake of the Basle nomenclature to end the confusion.
The Fort Denison photographs below show float activated tide gauge instruments in a cabinet and the system's stilling well. A wire connected to the upper drum mechanism passes out through the bottom right of the cabinet and runs over a pulley to drop down to the float system in the large pipe in the well. This system is now obsolete at Fort Denison but maintained as a museum exhibit. To the right of the large pipe in the well is an enclosed pipe which rises to the active modern system.
The Détente was essentially a stilling of the waters between the US and the USSR. It was started by Richard Nixon, elected President of the United States in 1968, and his National Security Advisor, Henry Kissinger and continued on through to 1980 and the start of the 'second Cold War'. It focused on a 'philosophical deepening' of American foreign policy to adjust to the changing international order as opposed to the Kennedy and Johnson administrations which were too single-minded in their pursuit of victory in Vietnam.John Mason in The Cold War (Routledge, 1996) p.
Schliep finished junior high school in 1961 and started an apprenticeship at the Seebeck Shipyard in Bremerhaven as an industrial clerk and worked there until 1965. In 1969 he attended the Jung- Stilling-College in Espelkamp (Ecclesiastical Institute for the attainment of higher education) for his high school diploma and finished a study of Protestant theology, philosophy and in social sciences. In 1974 Schliep gained a first theology degree at the Ruhr University Bochum and served subsequently as vicar for the Evangelical Church of Westphalia at the Stiepel Village Church in Stiepel, Bochum, Westphalia.
Singing is extremely important to the Baatonu and they have repertoires covering all aspects of daily life in the Empire. Wuru songs retrace the life of hunters and daily scenes, but can sometimes branch out into more erotic subject matter. Teke songs celebrate the typical values of Baatonu humanism and often use opposites to illustrate their messages – generosity and rapacity, bravery and cowardice, fidelity and infidelity, etc. – to encourage virtuous behaviour; thus, some of the songs are aimed at in- stilling a responsible attitude towards sexuality in young people, especially girls.
On April 17, 1973, in order to lower the water level of the Mississippi River and relieve pressure on the Old River Control Structure, the Corps of Engineers opened 42 of the 125 steel gates of the Morganza Spillway for the first time since its completion, allowing about half of its maximum designed flowrate to pass from the Mississippi into the Atchafalaya Basin. The spillway received minor scouring and slight damage to the stilling basin, and substantial flooding occurred in the Atchafalaya Basin. After the 1973 flood, the structure was restored to its original condition.
The zoned earth fill dam is 39 feet in height and 530 feet long. The auxiliary spillway at Meadow Grounds Dam is a trapezoidal-shaped concrete chute cut into rock though a natural saddle about 200 feet to the right of the dams right abutment. The spillway is provided with a 67 foot long trapezoidal- shaped weir that discharges into a concrete lined stilling basin and then into a riprap lined earth channel. Meadow Grounds Lake is currently being drained indefinitely until funding to repair the dam are available.
Renay continues her studies and Terry works on her novel "A Forest in the Heart", which Mrs. Stilling affirms is based on the relationship of Terry and Renay. Renay receives a call from Kentucky and learns that Denise has been killed in a car accident after Jerome Lee was visiting and took her for a drive while drunk. After attending Denise's funeral, Renay retracts into herself and becomes withdrawn from Terry and the outside world, wondering if her daughter's death is a punishment from God for her homosexual relationship with Terry.
Mantak Chia was born to a Chinese family in Thailand in 1944. He was raised in a Christian family; his father was a Baptist minister. He began studying the Buddhist method of "stilling the mind" at the age of six, and later he studied Muay Thai boxing, T'ai chi ch'uan, Kung Fu and Taoist and Buddhist meditation practices from several masters. Of all his masters, the most influential one was Yi Eng (White Cloud), an eremitic member of the Dragon's Gate sect of the Quanzhen (Complete Perfection) school of TaoismMiller (2006).
Bodhi (Sanskrit, Pāli), from the verbal root budd, "to awaken", "to understand", means literally "to have woken up and understood". According to Johannes Bronkhorst, Tillman Vetter, and K.R. Norman, bodhi was at first not specified. K.R. Norman: According to Norman, bodhi may basically have meant the knowledge that nibbana was attained, due to the practice of dhyana. Originally only "prajna" may have been mentioned, and Tillman Vetter even concludes that originally dhyana itself was deemed liberating, with the stilling of pleasure or pain in the fourth jhana, not the gaining of some perfect wisdom or insight.
The Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library features a collection of American literature as well as two copies of the original printing of the Declaration of Independence. It was in this library in 2006 that Robert Stilling, an English graduate student, discovered an unpublished Robert Frost poem from 1918. Clark Hall is the library for SEAS (the engineering school), and one of its notable features is the Mural Room, decorated by two three-panel murals by Allyn Cox, depicting the Moral Law and the Civil Law. The murals were finished and set in place in 1934.
The attribution of this weakening of terrestrial near-surface wind speed is not conclusive, probably because of several factors which interact simultaneously, and may change in space in time. Scientists have pointed out various major causes influencing this slowdown in wind speed: (i) The increase in land-surface roughness (e.g. forest growth, land use changes and urbanization) near meteorological station where anemometer instruments measure wind lead to a reinforcement of friction force that weaken low-level winds.Vautard R, Cattiaux J, Yiou P, Thépaut JN, Ciais P (2010) Northern Hemisphere atmospheric stilling partly attributed to an increase in surface roughness.
During the first half of the 20th century, the stepped cascade design became out of fashion, partly because of the maintenance costs but also because of the development in hydraulic jump stilling basins. Yet the long-lasting operation of several famous stepped cascades has demonstrated the soundness of the stepped spillway design. Although the stepped spillway design was common up to the beginning of the 20th century, a lot of expertise has been lost since, and the present expertise is limited to very simple geometries, namely some flat horizontal stepped prismatic chutes, despite some recent interest in stepped spillway design.
Cademan and Sir William Brouncker had a patent for stilling and brewing in a house at the back of St. James's Park, and this patent, they note in 1633, they had already exercised for many years. On 4 August 1638, on consideration of a petition to government presented in March previous, Sir Theodore de Mayerne, Cademan, and others distillers of spirits and makers of vinegar in London, were incorporated as "Distillers of London". Cademan and Mayerne were asked to set up rules of the corporation. The Company of Apothecaries petitioned against it in September as infringing their monopoly.
She enrolled at the private painting school operated by the Baltic German painter, Elise Jung-Stilling. In 1903, the Imperial Academy of Arts awarded her a diploma that enabled her to become a teacher in a middle school for girls. While teaching, she also took private lessons from Janis Rozentāls and studied landscape painting with Vilhelms Purvītis. View of the Isar River (Private collection, used by permission) Her first work was as an illustrator; providing drawings in the Art Nouveau style for Kiefern im Schnee (Pines in the Snow), a collection of poetry and fairy tales.
Correction factors can be applied to the level measurement to improve the accuracy of measurement. Turbulence, foam, steam, chemical mists (vapors), and changes in the concentration of the process material also affect the ultrasonic sensor’s response. Turbulence and foam prevent the sound wave from being properly reflected to the sensor; steam and chemical mists and vapors distort or absorb the sound wave; and variations in concentration cause changes in the amount of energy in the sound wave that is reflected back to the sensor. Stilling wells and waveguides are used to prevent errors caused by these factors.
For liquids prone to foaming and applications prone to splashing or turbulence, capacitance level sensors can be designed with splashguards or stilling wells, among other devices. A significant limitation for capacitance probes is in tall bins used for storing bulk solids. The requirement for a conductive probe that extends to the bottom of the measured range is problematic. Long conductive cable probes (20 to 50 meters long), suspended into the bin or silo, are subject to tremendous mechanical tension due to the weight of the bulk powder in the silo and the friction applied to the cable.
Mantram, the use of mantras enables the subject to use the knowledge of the Vedas "Atharva Veda" in this context adequately. Yama and Niyama are the adopted moral or behavioral codes (of the adept's choosing) that will be least likely to excite the mind. Pratyahara is the stilling of the thoughts so that the mind becomes quiet. Dharana is the beginning of concentration, usually on a single shape, like a triangle, which eventually leads to Dhyana, the loss of distinction between object and subject, which can be described as the annihilation of the ego (or sense of a separate self).
Vitarka mudrā, Tarim Basin, 9th century In Buddhism, vitarka (Sanskrit वितर्क; Pali: vitakka; Tibetan phonetic: tokpa), "applied thought," "attention," and vicāra, (Sanskrit (विचार) and Pali; Tibetan phonetic: chöpa) "discernment," "sustained thinking," are qualities or elements of the first dhyāna. In the Pali canon, Vitakka-vicāra form one expression, referring to "the normal process of discursive thought," which is suppressed by concentration in the second jhāna. The Buddhist commentarial tradition, as represented by the contemporary Theravāda, interprets vitarka and vicāra as the initial and sustainted application of attention to a meditational object, which culminates in the stilling of the mind.
However, research attempts to assist engineers. The two main design components are the inception point (where flow bulking first occurs—increased flow depth) and the energy dissipation that occurs. Stepped spillways are useful for flood control, increasing dissolved oxygen (DO) levels downstream of a dam, aid wastewater treatment plants for air-water transfer of gases and for volatile organic compound (VOC) removal and reduces the spillway length or eliminates need for stilling basin. However, few design guidelines are in place and stepped spillways have only been successful for small unit discharges where step height can influence the flow.
Born on 25 July 1892 in Kristiania, Anna Caspari was the daughter of Josef Immanuel von Zezschwitz Caspari (1857–1952), an academic, and Vilhelmine Christiane Sømme (1863–1952). On 28 December 1923, she married the archivist Peter Johan Agerholt (1890–1969). Little is known of her childhood but in 1910, but when she took the matriculating Examen artium at Hamar School, Caspari chose to write a Norwegian composition on Kvindens stilling i samfundet før og nu (Women's place in society then and now). She went on to study philology at the University of Kristiania, graduating as Cand.philol.
He, in his later years, lost his eyesight and just had a feeling that this (loss of vision) was the consequence of his previous acts of killing birds & animals. He, therefore, preached Mehi never to commit violence. Ramanand Swami, a sadhu of Dariyapanth (a sect named after Sant Dariya Sahab of Bihar), was Mehi's second guru. Ramanand Swami taught Mehi to practice 'Manas Jap' (internally chanting or repeatedly reciting a sacred mantra), 'Manas Dhyan' (trying to concentrate internally on the form of a sacred deity or Guru) and 'Bahya Drishti Sadahan' (stilling gaze at a target in the outside, not within ).
The Miller Basin Complex serves the functions of flood retarding basin, desilting basin, and stilling basin. At Miller Basin, Carbon Canyon Channel becomes Carbon Creek Channel. Miller Basin also serves to divide flow between Carbon Creek Channel (which flows to Coyote Creek and then the San Gabriel River) and Carbon Canyon Diversion Channel (which flows to the Santa Ana River). At Miller Basin, the channel system divides into two channels: Carbon Canyon Diversion Channel, which flows south to the Santa Ana River; and Carbon Creek Channel, which flows west into Coyote Creek and on to the San Gabriel River.
It was the largest coal- fired power plant in the world when it was completed. The plant's ash pond disposal area is located immediately north of the plant along the Emory River shore, and was subdivided into three separate sections, the main ash pond, stilling pond, and dewatering pond, each for the different steps of the disposal process. The entire ash pond was impounded by a dike that rose above the winter level and above sea level. Fly ash is the fine particulate matter produced by the combustion of coal, which is collected rather than allowing it to escape into the atmosphere.
The spill did not affect the adjacent retaining and stilling ponds; the other two stayed intact, while only the retaining wall for the solid waste containment area was affected. The confluence of the Clinch and Emory Rivers, with the Kingston Fossil Plant in the distance, five days after the spill. The white foam floating on the water consists of cenospheres, which are a component of the ash. The spill was reported to have killed and buried multiple deer and at least one dog, and ejected fish from the Emory River onto the river bank as far as from the shore.
The spillway is wide at the crest and falls through a chute to a stilling basin. Flood releases are not to exceed the safe San Juan channel capacity of below the dam. When the dam was first constructed, water releases were prioritized to meet irrigation demands and provide flood control; however, since the late 1990s the operating criteria have been changed in order to meet environmental restoration goals in the San Juan River (see below). Navajo Dam is part of the federal Colorado River Storage Project (CRSP), a massive system of dams, reservoirs and irrigation projects across the Upper Colorado River Basin.
Covering as much of the variety of family experience as he can in a range of settings that includes (among others) the kitchen, the bathroom, and the backyard, Blau looks at both the ordinary and the extraordinary aspects of family life. This book provides Blau's perspective on the material narrated by Gallop in Living With His Camera. The Mirror Stage" Interval(le)s II.2-III.1 (Fall 2008/Winter 2009) He writes, "These pictures are spontaneous transcriptions of my experience, an ethnography of family life, a phenomenology of domestic emotion...By selecting a moment, then stilling and framing it, I try to retain some feeling of the event itself.
Ammitzbøll started playing football in a local club called Stilling IF at the age of 6, before him and his family moved to Skanderborg and Ammitzbøll switched to FC Skanderborg as U14 player. In December 2015, at the age of 16, Ammitzbøll was invited to a trial at the Italien club A.C. Milan.16-årig dansker, der scorede 6 mål på en halvleg, skal til prøvetræning i Milan, footy.dk, 2 December 2015 He then participated in the talent teams in AGF Club collaboration, since FC Skanderborg and AGF are partner clubs, and in the summer 2016, he then joined the U-19 squad of AGF.
The discrepant behaviors are most often exhibited on reunion, but are found in other episodes of the procedure as well. Main and Cassidy developed a set of thematic headings for the various forms of disorganized/disoriented behavior. Infant behaviors coded as disorganized/disoriented include sequential display of contradictory behavior patterns (Index I); simultaneous display of contradictory behavior patterns (II); undirected, misdirected, incomplete, and interrupted movements and expressions (III); stereotypies, asymmetrical movements, mistimed movements, and anomalous postures (IV); freezing, stilling, and slowed movements and expressions (V); direct indices of apprehension regarding the parent (VI); direct indices of disorganization or disorientation (VII).Main, M., & Solomon, J. (1990).
The five main types of meditation in the Dhyāna sutras are ānāpānasmṛti (mindfulness of breathing); paṭikūlamanasikāra meditation (mindfulness of the impurities of the body); maitrī meditation (loving-kindness); the contemplation on the twelve links of pratītyasamutpāda; and contemplation on the Buddha.Ven. Dr. Yuanci, A Study of the Meditation Methods in the DESM and Other Early Chinese Texts, The Buddhist Academy of China. According to the modern Chan master Sheng Yen, these practices are termed the "five methods for stilling or pacifying the mind" and serve to focus and purify the mind, and support the development of the stages of dhyana.Zhang, Shengyen; Dan Stevenson (2002).
The Vyrnwy dam is high from the bottom of the valley, and thick at the base; it is long and has a road bridge running along the top. It is decorated with over 25 arches and two small towers each with four corner turrets rising above the road surface. The dam was the first to carry water over its crest instead of in a channel at the side. At the bottom of the dam is a body of water known as a stilling basin necessary to absorb the energy when the water flows over the crest and into the valley, and to stop the water eroding the foundations of the dam.
The bottom portion of the lake always remains full so the powerhouse has enough pressure to operate. The middle layer or "Power Storage" portion is used to regulate the flow of water running into the generators of the dam. The top portion or "Flood Storage" is usually empty unless holding floodwater. A spillway at the top of the dam is used to regulate the top portion of the dam, the spillway contains walls to maneuver the flow of the water, and a stilling basin is placed at the foot of the spillway to dissipate erosion from the spillway water hitting the base of the dam.
A iron sculpture created by the artist Kenn André Stilling, a friend of Turèll, was installed on the square in 2011. It is a composition of all the letters in the Danish alphabet in different sizes with Dan Turèll's initials as the two largest. The sculpture is inspired by a poem in Turèll's last poetry collection Tjah-a cha-cha from 1993: "The alphabet is my best toy and I will play with it until it has become too dark for me to see it anymore" ("Alfabetet er mit bedste legetøj. Jeg vil lege med det lige til det bliver for mørkt til at jeg kan sé det").
The Leesville Dam is a rolled earth fill with impervious core, maximum height 74 ft, top length 1695 ft, top width 25 ft, base width about 450 ft. With a 4.1 ft parapet wall on top of the dam with a top elevation of 995.1. Spillway: Uncontrolled concrete lined saddle spillway near left (south) abutment, crest elevation 977.5, length of crest 150 ft, design discharge with surcharge of 12.6 ft and freeboard of 5 ft. Outlet Works: Intake structure with three sluices controlled by 3.5 ft x 7 ft gates and discharges through a 7 ft diameter horseshoe tunnel through the right abutment into a stilling basin.
The chancellery's primary function is to align the policies and public relations of the Federal Government. It represents the executive on federal level in matters of the Constitution of Austria and in international courts. It is also in charge of women's rights and gender equality, civil service, public administration and management, exercised by Ines Stilling in the rank of a Federal Minister and member of the Austrian cabinet. It is further responsible for national security – if not in the Federal Ministry of the Interior's area of competence –, information privacy and information society, mass media affairs, news conferences and photojournalism, OECD relations, bioethics, and minority rights.
Leaving school, his first employment was with shipping agents Stilling & Co., then with landbroker W. M. Letchford (later Shuttleworth & Letchford), after which he served as clerk of works and timekeeper at the Government railway carriage and locomotive works, but was retrenched during the financial stringencies of the 1864–1866 drought. He decided to try his luck in New Zealand, but found things little better. He found work on a flax farm near Dunedin, and a potato farm near Lake Waikareiti, as a shipping foreman with Boyle & Co. in Dunedin, then at a flax mill. His last job in New Zealand was in charge of a horse working a whim over a coal mine.
The gables are now adjusted to the saddle roof in a straight line, but were originally probably arched in the style of the Renaissance. The baroque sandstone portal with the initials of the owners by that time, Ivar Krabbe and Dorte Juul, is a particularly precious architectural detail. The most prominent elements of the portal are the sculptures of two warriors in full armour framing the entrance, as well as those of two angels, on which the uppermost part of the portal rests, and two female figures in the upper part which are framing a family coat of arms and a laurel wreath.Niels Peter Stilling: Politikens bog om Danmarks slotte og herregårde.
Much against the will of his father, who on that account broke off contact with him, he took a position little better than that of a servant with Friedrich Georg and Ernst Nikolaus von Kleist (), barons from Courland and officer cadets about to begin their military service, whom he accompanied to Strasbourg. Once there, he came into contact with the actuary Johann Daniel Salzmann, around whom had formed the literary group of the Société de philosophie et de belles lettres. This was frequented also by the young Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who at this time happened to be in Strasbourg, and whose acquaintance Lenz made, as well as that of Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling.
At the end of the year she returned with her daughters and Empeytaz to Baden, a fateful migration. The empress Elizabeth of Russia was now at Karlsruhe; and she and the pietist ladies of her entourage hoped that the emperor Alexander might find at the hands of Madame de Krüdener the peace which an interview with Jung-Stilling had failed to bring him. The baroness herself wrote urgent letters to Roxandre de Stourdza, sister of Alexandre Stourdza the tsar's Romanian secretary, begging her to procure an interview. There seemed to be no result; but the correspondence paved the way for the opportunity which a strange chance was to give her of realizing her ambition.
The biblical commentary has the aim of explaining "the inner state of spiritual life, or the ways and actions of God inside the souls towards their purification, enlightenment and unification with Him" "[eine Erklärung,] die den inneren Zustand des geistlichen Lebens oder die Wege und Wirkungen Gottes in der Seelen zu deren Reinigung, Erleuchtung und Vereinigung mit Ihm [Gott] zu erkennen gibt", part of the work's full title. influenced by earlier (17th- century) German mysticism and by the Philadelphians. The Berleburg Bible was well received in 18th-century pietism, but its long-term influence remained comparatively minor due to its bulk, which imposed "natural limits" on its distribution.Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling: Theobald oder die Schwärmer.
Most of the uncertainties behind the "global terrestrial stilling" debate resides in (i) the short wind speed data availability, with series starting in the 1960s, (ii) wind speed studies mainly carried on midlatitude regions where the majority of long-term measurements are available; and (iii) the low quality of anemometer records as pointed out by the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The low quality in wind speed series is mainly due to non- climatic factors (e.g. observing practice changes, station relocation, anemometer height changes) affecting those records, which result to be unrepresentative of the actual wind speed variations over time. Specific homogenization protocols for wind speed series have been developed in order to detect and adjust potential inhomogeneities.
In part one, titled "Students", Bloom details how the young American mindset, the books, music, relationships, and other aspects of American popular culture contribute to the sanctimony of what he perceives to be dull, lazy minds in American universities today. Bloom contends that the "clean slate" with which students enter universities at first made them more susceptible to genuinely embracing the studies of philosophy and logic. But soon, because of "[t]he improved education of the vastly expanded middle class [that] weakened the family's authority", there came a "gradual stilling of the old political and religious echoes" in the students Bloom encountered later in his teaching career. He credits the narrowing and flattening of the American college experience to these phenomena.
The legal, civilian, and cultural status of women in prehistoric society during the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age in Scandinavia are somewhat obscure, but from Viking Age sources we know that women were relatively free, compared to men, contemporary societies and the later Middle Ages.Ingelman-Sundberg, Catharina, Forntida kvinnor: jägare, vikingahustru, prästinna [Ancient women: hunters, viking wife, priestess], Prisma, Stockholm, 2004 With the gradual introduction of Catholicism in Scandinavia in the early Middle Ages, women's rights were increasingly regulated and restricted. During the Middle Ages, the legal rights of women in Denmark were regulated by the county laws, the landskabslovene from the 13th-century, and therefore varied somewhat between different counties: however, a married woman was generally under the guardianship of her spouse.Inger Dübeck: Kvinders retlige stilling.
Applications such as inside stilling tubes or external bridles or cages, offer an excellent alternative to float or displacement devices, as they remove any moving parts or linkages and are unaffected by density changes or build up. They are also excellent with very low microwave reflectivity products like liquid gasses (LNG, LPG, Ammonia) which are stored at low temperatures/high pressures, although care needs to be taken on sealing arrangements and hazardous area approvals. On bulk solids and powders, GWR offers a great alternative to radar or ultrasonic sensors, but some care needs to be taken over cable wear and roof loading by the product movement. One perceived major disadvantage of microwave or radar techniques for level monitoring is the relatively high price of such sensors and complex set up.
The floodway, long and wide, includes a stilling basin, an approach channel, an outlet channel, and two guide levees. From there, diverted water enters the Atchafalaya River Basin Floodway near Krotz Springs, Louisiana, and continues to the Gulf of Mexico. In an extreme flood event, a major release of water from the Morganza Spillway into the Morganza Floodway and Atchafalaya Basin inundates not only the floodways themselves (between their levees), but extensive additional areas of southern Louisiana throughout the Atchafalaya Basin. In such an event, the water level of the Mississippi, high enough to overtop the Spillway, would already be flooding some areas in the Basin downstream of the spillway, due to increased flow through the ORCS and the ORCAS, as well as possible overtopping of levees near the spillway.
Sjur Brækhus (19 June 1918 – 19 May 2009) was a Norwegian legal scholar and judge. He was born in Bergen as a son of captain and ship-owner Sigurd Alfred Brækhus (1879–1952) and Hilda Sverresdatter Klingenberg (1884–1957). He finished his secondary education at Frogner School in 1936 and graduated with the cand.jur. degree at the University of Oslo in 1941. He was a deputy judge in Eiker, Modum and Sigdal District Court from 1941 to 1942. He became a research fellow at the University of Oslo in 1945 and took the dr.juris degree in 1947 with the thesis Meglerens rettslige stilling. He was married twice, the first time from 1945 to 1957. He was hired as a docent at the University of Oslo in 1947, and was promoted to professor already in 1948. He remained here until retirement in 1988.
Louis XIV, by Hyacinthe Rigaud The Edict remained unaltered in effect, registered by the parliaments as "fundamental and irrevocable law," with the exception of the brevets, which had been granted for a period of eight years, and were renewed by Henry in 1606 and in 1611 by Marie de Médecis, who confirmed the Edict within a week of the assassination of Henry, stilling Protestant fears of another St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. The subsidies had been reduced by degrees, as Henry gained more control of the nation.A point made in Rothrock 1960:19. By the peace of Montpellier in 1622, concluding a Huguenot revolt in Languedoc, the fortified Protestant towns were reduced to two, La Rochelle and Montauban. The brevets were entirely withdrawn in 1629, by Louis XIII, following the Siege of La Rochelle, in which Cardinal Richelieu blockaded the city for fourteen months.
Once this is complete in the wet disposal method, it is mixed with water and pumped into a retaining pond, known as the main ash pond at the Kingston Plant, where the ash gradually settled to the bottom. Once the particulate matter settled out, the water was pumped to the stilling pond, where the remaining solids settled, and the ash was dredged and moved to drying cells in the unlined above-ground dewatering pond, also known as the solid waste containment pond, where the spill took place. At the time of the spill, the dredge cells contained a watery slurry of fly ash generated by the burning of finely ground coal at the power plant. TVA had reportedly known about the dangers of using wet storage ponds for coal ash since a 1969 spill in Virginia in which coal ash seeped into the Clinch River and killed large numbers of fish.
The ceiling panels over the centre aisle depict: the wise men and the shepherds; Christ feeding the multitude and stilling the storm; Christ healing the blind and lepers; the crucifixion (dome); and the entry into Jerusalem with Christ carrying the cross (chancel). The memorials on the north wall are to John Raphael, a popular sportsman killed in the First World War; to Father Maxwell Rennie, a bust by his daughter Rosemary Proctor; and, in the lunette above St George's altar, a painting by Starmer represents the last few moments in the life of Michael Rennie, the Vicar's son, who died of exhaustion after rescuing several evacuee children after their ship, the City of Benares, had been torpedoed on its way to Canada in 1940. The murals here and in the south aisle represent the teaching of Jesus in the parables of the kingdom. The Stations of the Cross, also by Starmer, begin here and continue into the south aisle.
While the majority of the poems are intensely personal (for which she expresses unease: "It discomfits me /that I should be the central / matter of my poems when savage and / brutal deeds hurl themselves /as headlines around the world"), Oden also engages with other poets such as Ciardi, Tennyson and T. S. Eliot while exploring a number of philosophical questions raised in the writings of Plato, Santayana, Spinoza, and Martha Nussbaum. In these poems, she considers the relationship between reason and emotion, and the connection of the body to the mind, often siding with feeling and imagination while stilling insisting that action ultimately rules over the page.Oden (2004) Even within her focus on the personal, like in the earlier collections, in Appearances, Oden investigates a wider range of topics from family, love, aging, happiness, and sexual passion. As the title would suggest, there is also a newfound openness in these verses, a shedding of past experiences.
Detail of the north transept window by Douglas Strachan (1922) Oscar Paterson is responsible for the west window of the north side of the north nave aisle (1906): this shows saints associated with St Giles'. Karl Parsons designed the west window of the south side of the south choir aisle (1913): this depicts saints associated with Scotland. Douglas Strachan is responsible for the windows of the choir clerestory that depict saints (1932–35) and for the north transept window (1922): this shows Christ walking on water and stilling the Sea of Galilee, alongside golden angels subduing demons that represent the four winds of the earth.Kallus 2010, p. 23. Windows of the later 20th century include a window in the north transept clerestory by William Wilson, depicting Saint Andrew (1954), and the east window of the Albany Aisle, on the theme of John the Divine, designed by Francis Spear and painted by Arthur Pearce (1957).
In 1999, Reclamation hosted a workshop to plan for a weir improvement project. Members of the workshop came up with the following potential solutions: # Rebuild the weir foundation and use the existing fish screen barrier # Add a solid foundation and a downward sloping bar rack pointing downstream # Collect fish near the power plant water channel of Nimbus Dam and transport them via trucks to the Hatchery; and # Collect the fish at the power plant water channel of Nimbus Dam, and use a sluice (water channel) to bring them to the Hatchery Reclamation asked the California Department of Water Resources Fish Passage Improvement Program for potential improvements for redirecting salmon to the hatchery. The DWR suggested for the fish ladder to be extended to the stilling basin downstream of Nimbus Dam, with the dam becoming the barrier for the salmon. This suggestion held similarity to two other plans, except the other two used trucks or water channels to transport the fish instead of a fish ladder.
Saya is a young maiden who was adopted by an elderly couple who found her in the forest when she was an infant and raised to worship and revere the God of Light and his two immortal children, the passionate and fierce Princess Teruhi and the subdued and melancholic Prince Tsukishiro. As she comes of age, she catches the eye of Prince Tsukishiro and the people of Darkness, those who continue to reincarnate and do not fear death. Tsukishiro, enchanted by Saya's beauty, invites her to become one of his handmaidens at the Palace of Light where he and his sister reside. Before she leaves, she discovers from the People of Darkness that she is latest reincarnation of the Water Maiden, the Princess of the People of Darkness and a priestess capable of stilling the Dragon Sword, a weapon that contains the rage of the Fire God when he was killed by his father, the God of Light, for burning his mother, the Goddess of Darkness, to death.
This 'escapement' allows the hammer to fall away from the strings after striking them allowing them to vibrate freely as long as the key is held down producing a long sustained note until the felt damper depending from a lead weighted wooden block is allowed to fall onto the strings by lifting the finger from the key, stilling them and cutting off the note when desired. The hammer head is caught by a "check" – a felt clothed wooden block mounted on the lever by a solid wire. This check is so placed to catch the hammer in a position where the jack can re-engage with the butt to propel it once again towards the strings before the key is fully released. This allows for rapid note repetition common in the ornamentation of music designed to disguise the short duration of treble notes that is typical of the plucked string harpsichord and the early piano whose light, low tension stringing has not the power we expect from a piano of today.
Apomorphine was one of the earliest used pharmacotherapies for alcoholism. The Keeley Cure (1870s to 1900) contained apomorphine, among other ingredients, but the first medical reports of its use for more than pure emesis come from James Tompkins and Charles Douglas. Tompkins reported, after injection of 6.5 mg ("one tenth of a grain"): > In four minutes free emesis followed, rigidity gave way to relaxation, > excitement to somnolence, and without further medication the patient, who > before had been wild and delirious, went off into a quiet sleep. Douglas saw two purposes for apomorphine: > [it can be used to treat] a paroxysm of dipsomania [an episode of intense > alcoholic craving]... in minute doses it is much more rapidly efficient in > stilling the dipsomaniac craving than strychnine or atropine… Four or even > 3m [minim – roughly 60 microlitres] of the solution usually checks for some > hours the incessant demands of the patient… when he awakes from the > apomorphine sleep he may still be demanding alcohol, though he is never then > so insistent as before.
