The Pequest starts at Stickles Pond, Newton in Sussex County and flows southward through Springdale and Huntsville, about , where it starts to turn southwest. Flowing through Tranquility, it runs along the northwestern side of the Allamuchy Mountain ridge near Allamuchy, where it meets Trout Brook. It now joins Bear Creek in Bear Swamp and passes through the reclaimed swampy area known as the Great Meadows, lying between the ridges of Jenny Jump Mountain and Cat Swamp Mountain. The 1907 Central Michigan Normalites football team represented Central Michigan Normal School, later renamed Central Michigan University, as an independent during the 1907 college football season. Football was reinstated after one year's absence, and Ralph Thacker, who had played fullback for Olivet College the prior year, was named coach of the football team. Bruce Stickles was selected as the team captain. Although the Central Michigan football media guide reports that the 1907 football team compiled a 2–4 record, including a loss to Alma College, the contemporaneous newspaper report on the Alma game reports it as a victory for Central by a 13 to 0 score.

Frank Lewis Nason (May 12, 1856 – September 12, 1928) was an American mining engineer, teacher, and writer. He was born to Lewis Clark Nason and Maria Julia (Stickles) in New London, Wisconsin and attended Middlebury High School in Middlebury, Vermont. In 1877 he entered Amherst College in Massachusetts, graduating in June, 1882 with an A.B. degree. After two months at Yale Divinity School, he became an instructor, teaching mathematics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York and geology at the nearby Troy Female Seminary. He spent part of 1885–6 at Johns Hopkins University, then received an A.M. from Amherst College in 1885, and on July 29 was married to Tholia Abigail Painter.

While studying at Cooper Union in New York City on a full-tuition scholarship, his student film "The Battle of the Burps and Farts" was screened at TromaDance 2004 and was the only film in the history of the festival that was booed by everybody in attendance. Upon graduation Aiden Dillard directed an outrageous psychedelic spoof of "Reefer Madness", titled "Meat Weed Madness", which featured set decoration by Joe Holtzman, the editor-in-chief of Nest (magazine), and crudely constructed props and stop-motion animation. "Meat Weed Madness" premièred at the Wolfsonian-FIU in December 2005 during Art Basel Miami Beach, and was released on DVD by Troma Entertainment in 2006. Aiden Dillard's even more outrageous sequel Meat Weed America was released by Troma Entertainment on DVD in the fall of 2007, and features Troma's president Lloyd Kaufman, Debbie Rochon, and Peter Stickles.

At the Games in Perth, he set Commonwealth records in both events to record his first international victories, and then combined with Julian Carroll, Ian O'Brien and David Dickson to add a third gold in the 4x110-yard medley relay. In 1963, Berry successfully defended both of his butterfly titles, and then made a European tour with the Australian team, and then passed the entry examinations to Indiana University, and moved to the United States on a swimming scholarship under Doc Counsilman. He was defeated in the US Championships that year by Carl Robie, who later captured his world records. Berry trained amongst high calibre swimmers at Indiana, as his teammates included Tom Stock, Chet Jastremski and Ted Stickles, holders of every backstroke, breaststroke and medley world record respectively. In 1964, Berry returned to Australia to qualify for the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, breaking world records in both the 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly.
