He rescues Mo and Sean and returns for Trevor, reaching him just as a petrol can explodes, killing them both instantly.
Remy and Anne arrive and are confronted by De Soto and Dodge, and a shootout starts, resulting in De Soto being shot by a fatally wounded Kellom, and Dodge being shot with a flare gun by Remy, which starts a fire, and Remy and Anne make a run for it in the nick of time just before the boat explodes. The final scene shows Remy dancing with Anne, and it appears they had just been married.
After Terry leaves, Viv drowns her sorrows by drinking a bottle of wine. She falls asleep on the sofa and is oblivious when the post office and flat catches fire after corrupt police officer Nick Henshall (Michael McKell) starts a fire at Victoria Cottage and it spreads to surrounding buildings. Bob and Terry break into the shop to try and rescue Viv and the twins. Bob rescues Cathy and Heath and makes it out alive and Terry attempts to rescue Viv.
Intending to free her, Adrienne's father (unbilled Harold Howard) also has himself committed under the name "John Harmon" and, during yard exercise period, starts a fire in the ward's paint shop. As the blaze rages, Fletcher chases him to the roof where Maxwell slips and falls to his death. Blackened with soot, Fletcher is treated for burns on his arms, as DA Cope and Chief Roberts explain that Maxwell confessed before dying. Grayson also arrives and everyone offers explanatory details.
Convict Larry Durant escapes from an Oregon road gang, and starts a fire in a forest, which goes out of control and threatens to destroy a small mountain community. Involved are a lumber mill owner, Sam Brisbane; Martha Wagner, the widowed operator of a forest lodge; teacher, Harriet Malone, who is on a class outing; a country doctor, Doc Bennett, and a young couple, Doctors Alex and Peggy Wilson, whose shaky marriage is healed when battling the blaze brings out their better natures.
Vin and Amy begin bonding throughout the case, causing Jake to feel jealous. Jake comes to believe that Vin's friend Sam Jepsen is starting the fires, but Amy and Vin come to believe that a different person is starting the fires to spell their name. While pursuing a suspect due to Vin's hunch, Jake doesn't follow protocol and monitors Jepsen. However, Jepsen turns out to be innocent and the real arsonist starts a fire where Jake was supposed to guard, angering Amy.
A few weeks later, the fire station crew set to work on a training film with Norman Price as Trevor's "gopher". Production of the training film begins. Norman gets bored of being a gopher, so Penny suggests he play a victim in their staged rescue, along with Sam's niece and nephew Sarah and James. Later, Dilys Price looks for treasure in her attic after reading a magazine article, but the candle she uses for light starts a fire in the house.
A hot dog vendor hears Kazanian's cries for help and rushes over, but proceeds to kill him with a knife. More strange deaths occur in the building, when Carol and Elise's butler, John, plots to take advantage of the Countess' death by stealing her valuables. A shocked Carol finds John's corpse in Elise's apartment, and drops a lit candle which starts a fire. Attempting to put out the flames, she becomes entangled in burning draperies and falls from a window to her death.
Thomas escorts Jimmy to the guest corridor upstairs and plans to watch the door while Jimmy goes through with it. They share a moment in which Jimmy exhibits some doubt about the plan, wondering if perhaps Lady Anstruther just wants to talk. Thomas watches forlornly as Jimmy enters Lady Anstruther's room, silently wishing Jimmy was coming to him instead. Unluckily, while the tryst is occurring, Lady Edith accidentally starts a fire in a nearby bedroom, which pulls Thomas away from his post.
She will feature in a storyline where Phoebe tracks her down in Northern Ireland to gain her permission to marry Vincent Elegba (John Omole). Mel accompanies Phoebe to the police station after she starts a fire. She defends her daughter and requests that the social services do not become involved. When Phoebe is released, Mel tells her that she does not want her to come home with her - but does not want her attract the attentions of the social services either.
She decides that she is going to urinate in the bottle, but Kelly pleads with her not to do this. Dill accidentally starts a fire in the kitchen, doing damage to a pan and the stove top. Jack is irritated by the fact that Dill is the only one who doesn't seem to be helping clean up the mess, although Dill points out that he would only make things worse. Ozzy and Sharon finally persuade Jack to ask Dill to leave the house.
The girls prepare a homemade spa and Tanzie accidentally spills nail polish remover. Ava lights a cigarette and when an argument breaks out between the sisters, the dropped cigarette accidentally starts a fire. Ava saves her father's watch and her engagement party dress while Tanzie saves their TiVo box which had recordings of her father talking about his cosmetics. They leave for a hotel but soon learn all their credit cards have been shut down, leaving the girls completely broke.
She meets him at a diner, and he reveals he only joined The 'A' Team in order to protect her. They get back together and have sex for the second time in a motel. Spencer hosts a fake party at a lodge where the girls are supposed to meet "Red Coat", when an unknown figure starts a fire, trapping Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Mona in the burning house. Toby leads Spencer in the woods to see who "Red Coat" is.
Jacob is cut off from the group, and meets an elderly man named Moloch (Another religious name, see: Moloch), who lives in a cave. Jacob slowly figures out that Moloch is a cannibal, but finds out too late, for he was promptly trapped in Moloch's cave. As Moloch starts a fire to smoke Jacob to death, Jacob finds a small passageway at the back of the cave. He proceeds to crawl his way towards the end of the tunnel, which ended in a very high ladder.
Rudy and Jackson hide the guard's body, then lie in wait as the other three members of the bank staff arrive for work, tying up each in turn. They steal about $250,000 ($ million today), at which point Rudy kills Jackson in order to increase his share of the proceeds. Doc starts a fire so they can escape while everyone is distracted. Rudy, guessing that Doc will try to kill him, pulls a gun, but Doc shoots first, seemingly killing Rudy, then meets up with Carol.
Back at the firehouse, Smokey immediately starts a fire and struggles to convince Lt. McGinty (Spike Jones), who is busy leading band rehearsal that they must stop playing and put out the flames. Soon after, Capt. Bill Peters (Tom Brown) demonstrates his new mechanized fire-engine, and although it continually breaks down, he insists to Chief Rorty (George Cleveland) that his truck is the way of the future. Rorty agrees to let him motorize one firehouse, but frustrates Bill by assigning him to Firehouse 12.
Jean, under the impression that Dan is in love with Millie, tells her servant, Lucius (George H. Reed), to place a letter of farewell in Dan's dressing room. The show proceeds and Dan sings 'Sunday, Monday or Always' with the company. While the minstrels sing 'She's From Missouri' Millie, backstage, tells Bones that she will marry him that night and breaks the news to Jean. On stage, Dan and the company sing ‘Dixie' while his pipe, once again left lying around, starts a fire.
Unknown to Verdain and the newly arrived agents, two of Verdain's models, Helga and Gabrielle, have been killed in a monotrain derailment and reconstructed in the service of the Mysterons. When Verdain takes his guests on a tour of Monte Carlo Bay in his luxury yacht, Gabrielle starts a fire in the engine room that quickly consumes the vessel. All onboard jump to safety just seconds before the yacht explodes. Despite Scarlet's warnings, Verdain refuses to cancel his press reception at a nearby hotel.
At the request of the father, the boys dig a path towards the barn to care for the livestock. They notice no sounds, even from the nearby brook or church-bells ringing. As the day again turns to night, the family starts a fire and, shut in because of the snow, they gather around the hearth. The father tells of his experiences eating, hunting, and fishing with Native Americans and others near Lake Memphremagog in Vermont, Great Marsh in Salisbury, Massachusetts, the Isles of Shoals, and elsewhere.
As punishment for their actions, the trio are ordered by the headmaster to clean out a large storeroom beneath the main hall. In a surreal sequence, they discover a cache of firearms, including automatic weapons and mortars. Joined by Philips and the girl from the café, they commit to revolt against the establishment. On Founders' Day, when parents are visiting the school, the group starts a fire under the hall, smoking everyone out of the building, where they open fire on them from the rooftop.
After little progress, Burns has the loch drained of water to expose the creature. After subduing the monster single-handed (although it is not shown, it is mentioned that the monster swallowed him), Burns has it sent to Springfield to be unveiled, where "Nessie" turns out to be friendly and charms all of the spectators. However, during the unveiling of the monster, Burns is blinded by camera flashes. He runs into a camera, which crashes and starts a fire: the crowd panic and flee.
They become engangled with a ruthless and treacherous criminal Bonnerot and his chief henchman Frazer. Although they succeed in wounding Bonnerot, he takes his revenge by having his men plant a timed explosive device on board Mollenard's ship. When the device starts a fire Mollenard and his men abandon ship, and returning to France find that they are now being hailed as heroes. The company, for insurance purposes, has to play along with Mollenard's new status and have to consider giving him a new ship.
When Count Olaf starts a fire at the Hotel Denouement, Charles was last seen holding hands with Sir on one of the floors where they argue about the use of fire in the lumbermill industry. In the 2017 Netflix TV series, Charles is portrayed by Rhys Darby. It is strongly implied that Charles is Sir's domestic partner, something that was only vaguely implied in The Penultimate Peril. In this show, Charles was the one who found the Baudelaires near the property and brought them to Sir.
Captain Black (voiced by Donald Gray) intercepts a transporter truck delivering a shipment from the Fairfield Engine Company to a warehouse. After shooting the driver, Jackson, he starts a fire that quickly consumes the warehouse and everything inside. Later, while surveying the wreckage with a fire chief, Mr Fairfield reveals that his company's shipments were newly fitted-out Spectrum Angel fighters awaiting delivery to Cloudbase. At that moment, the ruins of the warehouse are overflown by three aircraft matching those destroyed in the fire.
To protect the Indian boy, Larry allows himself to be returned to jail, now guarded over by Pretty Boy. Read starts a fire and escapes but not before forcing Pretty Boy to confess to the killings of Bowers and Allen. Red manages to stop Larry’s hanging just it time and stops Denver Jack. With Larry’s name cleared and the criminals arrested, Red, Little Beaver and Red’s aunt, The Duchess (Alice Fleming), watch cheerfully as Larry Randall is once again back together again with Judy Barton.
When a bank foreclosure agent came by to foreclose on the house, Silas slit his throat, as well. Silas is shown to have been in prison for the last 20 years related to the two deaths. Tom, after finding his wife in the bathroom with Silas soaking in the tub, kicks him out at gunpoint and tells him never to return. That night, Silas does return, however, and starts a fire as a distraction outside, which makes Tom run out to look for Silas.
The circus performers utilize their various talents to break Mrs. Jumbo out of her enclosure while Holt and Colette guide Dumbo to fly out of the circus. Vandevere attempts to stop them, but starts a fire triggered by the mismanagement of Dreamland's electricity system, which spreads and destroys the park. After Dumbo saves Holt and his family from the fire, Holt, Colette, the kids, and the troupe bring Dumbo and his mother to the harbor, where they board a ship back to their native home in India.
A broken lantern starts a fire in the church and the townspeople rush to help extinguish it. McCabe continues his evasion and, by shooting them in the back from hidden positions, kills two of the would-be assassins, one of whom wounds McCabe as he falls. As the townsfolk mobilize to fight the chapel fire, McCabe plays cat-and-mouse with the last gunman, Butler. McCabe is shot in the back and mortally wounded but feigns death and kills Butler with a Derringer when he approaches to confirm McCabe's identity.
It becomes clear that Frederick had his brother Rodolphe murdered before he even left the castle and the story of his dying in Africa has been faked. Discovering that his plan has been uncovered, Frederick starts a fire that destroys much of the evidence. As the outbreak of the First World War approaches, the Princess drives Raoul to safety from arrests across the border, and then returns to confront Frederick. Faced with exposure he shoots himself, at which point the Princess abdicates, not wishing to take part in the war against Russia or France.
After they stand up to him, Chris is killed after Platt fires a high-powered rifle from a distance, spooking a horse on which Chris was riding. The horse rears up and throws Chris from the saddle and to the ground, causing him to sustain a fatal head injury. Hysterical after losing the last of his family, John starts a fire at their ramshackle cabin, that quickly goes out of control. Platt immediately blames John for the fire, and John is taken into custody for a juvenile hearing.
Hiro refuses to use his powers to win the duel, and they have a brief battle, during which Kensei knocks over a lamp and starts a fire. As the fire spreads, Hiro knocks Kensei's sword out of his hands, and offers the defeated Kensei a chance to escape. Kensei, driven mad by Yaeko's love for Hiro, claims that he will destroy everything Hiro holds dear (starting with Yaeko) and so Hiro leaves him to die. He finds Kensei's helmet and mask amidst the debris, and returns to Yaeko.
The couple almost make it to Salt Lake City, but Charlie is not willing to give up the money and hatches a plan to get it back from the Bloodworth gang. He sets booby traps at the gang's ranch and starts a fire in the barn, retrieving the loot in the process. In the ensuing chase and gunfight, the gang members are killed but Charlie is wounded. Charlie believes he is dying, but Amanda calls him lazy, grabs the satchel and walks toward Salt Lake City; Charlie and Blackjack get to their feet and follow.
During an outing to the beach, Chloe tells Mel that she has been diagnosed with Huntington's disease. Mel's supportive response leads Chloe to give their relationship a second chance. Mel purchases an office in the Lassiters complex, and pays Heath Kabel (Tim Conlon) to turn away business at the garage. When he tells her that the apprentice Bea Nilsson (Bonnie Anderson) is rebooking the cancelled job, she asks for his keys and starts a fire at the garage with a faulty power board, unaware that Bea is sleeping inside a van.
Later a policeman comes to the door. Dev screams to attract attention but Maya gags him to stop his cries for help and tells the police that she is Sunita. While she does this, Dev gets a knife and cuts his legs free. When Maya returns, she turns the gas on the stove on and leaves the kitchen, telling Dev that if he believes in reincarnation that maybe next time he would come back as something better and starts a fire in the shop below, leaving them tied up inside a locked room.
In the early 1950s, Lily Kawamura tells her pre-adolescent daughter Mini about her father and the life that she barely remembers, as the two of them are walking to a rural train station. In 1936, Jack McGurn is a motion picture projectionist, involved in a campaign of harassment against non-union theaters in New York City. One such attack turns fatal, as one of his fellow union members starts a fire. McGurn's boss, knowing that the feelings of guilt would likely cause Jack to go to the police, urges him to leave the city.
Marty Malone is a member of a street gang called the "Death Avenue Cowboys", consisting of poor children in Hell's Kitchen, New York. As the gang try to steal fruit from a fruit warehouse, Marty starts a fire to distract the watchmen, unfortunately it turns into a real blaze and he is caught by the police. Even though the police give him a rough time in questioning, he refuses to say the names of any other gang members, thus saving his friends and accomplices from capture. Marty is sent to a reformatory for delinquents.
Mr. Blunden tells them that, for a while, things must go on as they did before but that when the time was right he will appear and help Jamie and Lucy save Sara and Georgie. Indeed, for a while, things do progress as they did but eventually Mrs. Wickens drugs the children and they sleep, as Mr. Wickens starts a fire in the library beneath the nursery. Tom, the gardener's boy, attempts to rescue them and manages to climb up the outside of the house to the nursery window.
A forester from Springfield said, "It will be a very short time until the happenstance of lightning once again starts a fire that will wipe out the countryside." In 1972, former U.S. Senator Wayne Morse, a Democrat from Oregon, hiked into the area with conservation activists and encouraged Republican U.S. Senator Mark Hatfield to do the same. Morse expressed confidence that French Pete would be protected, while Hatfield still supported the plan for logging. However, Hatfield later reversed his position and began to support wilderness designation in general.
Jesse gets home and tries to tell Lucy about the zombie uprising, but she dismisses him and locks him in his room. Elsewhere, Ed, Joey, and Brenda show up at Billy's house to get help but they run away when Billy's dad pulls a shotgun on them. Meanwhile, Jesse starts a fire outside his door to set off the smoke alarms, to distract Lucy so he can escape. Jesse calls the Army and gets through to Colonel Glover, who had helped put down the Louisville outbreak days earlier, but the call gets disconnected.
An enraged Wash Jones kills Sutpen, his own granddaughter, Sutpen's newborn daughter, and finally himself by resisting arrest. The story of Thomas Sutpen's legacy ends with Quentin taking Rosa back to the seemingly abandoned Sutpen's Hundred plantation, where they find Henry Sutpen and Clytemnestra (Clytie), the daughter of Thomas Sutpen by a slave woman. Henry has returned to the estate to die. Three months later, when Rosa returns with medical help for Henry, Clytie mistakes them for law enforcement and starts a fire that consumes the plantation and kills Henry and herself.
As Count Olaf in the alias of Mattathias Medicalschool starts a fire at the Heimlich Hospital and blames the Baudelaires for starting it, Hal joins the Person of Indeterminate Gender and some members of the Volunteers Fighting Disease into pursuing them. Before the fire can get worse, Hal managed to make it out alive feeling depressed at the loss of the Library of Records as he walks past Lemony Snicket during his narration. His part in "The Penultimate Peril" is omitted, though he does appear in a newspaper clipping with Mr. Poe.
Do-hee remains suspicious, especially after she finds the baby clothes that her mother had hidden. Do-hee went as far as to test her DNA with Na-yeon's after sneaking into her house to find samples of her hair. Later on, Do-hee locates the mental hospital that Na-yeon is held at and tells her the entire truth. Do-hee switches clothes with Na-yeon to let her sneak out of the hospital, but a mentally ill patient next door starts a fire just after Na-yeon manages to leave the hospital.
Tinkle however delays and promises the witch doctor that their gods will bestow a sign of thanks upon them. Intending rescue, Ug accidentally catapults himself into the Nosha camp and starts a fire. In the chaos, Ug, June and Upsidasi manage to escape but the enraged Noshas apprehend the other travellers and prepare to kill them. As they wait to be put to death, they are suddenly rescued by the all-female Lubby-Dubby tribe led by the stunning Leda (Valerie Leon) from the Lost World of Aphrodisia.
On Christmas Day 2011, Denise opens a present containing a broken toy car and a USB stick with a recording of Phil talking about his part in Kevin's death. Horrified, Denise calls Phil a murderer and tries to get him arrested but fails to do so. Yusef starts a fire at the bed and breakfast, damaging it so badly that Denise, Kim and Patrick are forced to move out. The insurance company refuse to pay out as it was arson so Patrick gives Denise and Kim the Minute Mart but Zainab gives them Yusef's money so they can rebuild the bed and breakfast.
The Miller, Eva’s father, tells the local Priest that his mill burned down during the night, the latest in a series of arson attacks that seem to happen at the same time every year. Fünkchen, Ratzekahl and Strahlbusch, Christobald’s accomplices, are travelling musicians who every year turn up to play at a wedding while Christobald starts a fire somewhere nearby. Eva goes up to the castle and declares her love to Heinrich, which is returned. However, Heinrich, determined to overcome the madness within him, refuses to consummate their love until he and Eva are properly wed.
Water symbolizes purification and cleanness of the soul, although in "Polvo de carbón" and "Mar" ("Sea") it is the reason for the death of the children. In "El hijo de la lavandera" ("The Washerwoman's Son"), the purifying nature of water appears, despite being cut short by the reception that it receives. Contrasting this is the fire that represents sacrifice in "El niño de los hornos" ("The Child of the Ovens") where jealousy drives the boy to burn his older brother. In "El incendio" ("The Fire"), the boy starts a fire that ends up taking his life.
Mortem is appearing more, and getting Indigo to contemplate sex with him. 12."The Last Place to Fall From:" Indigo gets drunk at a party, is "felt-up" (but not raped) by strange boys, and dances with Mortem (who appears to be a normal man to everyone present.) Gabriella decides Indigo has lost control and comes to her rescue despite being brutally dismissed in Book 8. She starts a fire in the house where the party takes place with a cigarette just as Mortem begins to fondle Indigo's breasts. Indigo retreats to her friend Sarah's house, and surprisingly, is perfectly fine by morning.
Although it initially causes a scene, Ann gently coaxes David to agree, telling him not to let Hugh "do something he'll regret". Back at school, one of David's friends, Billy, tells him that when he was 8 years- old, he tried to burn a pile of newspapers, got scared and put the fire out, and his parents thought he was a hero for saving the house from burning. Inspired by this story, David starts a fire on the Butterfields' front porch and walks away. But by the time he returns, the flame has spread too far.
As Ben tries to lower it and shoot at the crowd, the age and poor storage of the cannon and its ammunition cause it to explode. The explosion starts a fire, which engulfs a large tree in front of the town hall and threatens to destroy numerous buildings. The Emberites watch passively as the people of Sparks try to extinguish the fire: some hope for the fire to spread, but most of them are simply too afraid, of the fire and their fellow Emberites, to do anything. At this point, Lina decides to help the people of Sparks fight the fire.
Distraught, they decide to return home early, but end up with a flat tire. While getting the spare tire from the trunk, Joe discovers a map that leads to Dekker's fortune. They book a room in a nearby hotel, and while having dinner, they are found by Rita and Angie, who question them about Dekker and reveal that they are after him because Rita's mother was one of Dekker's victims. Joe and Gus promise to bring Dekker to justice, but that night, Gus sleepwalks and starts a fire in the hotel, destroying their suite and the map.
In 2015, Cameron goes to Spencer's birthday party, where he and Emma "break up" and he starts "dating" Josslyn (but they have since broken up as well). Before he leaves the party with Josslyn, he accidentally starts a fire that traps Emma and leaves Spencer with injuries. When Cameron finds out about the fire he freaks out and asks Ric to be his lawyer but he is told that he doesn't need one. At the 2015 Nurses' Ball, Cameron and Emma are set to perform the tango again but are interrupted yet again by Spencer, who throws sand bags on the stage.
Kwai-lan knows if anyone found it Sam-shui's life was forfeit and tries to convince him back on the right path. The two of them have a private meeting, Sam-shui admits that for the sake of their sibling relationship he could let her escape, but only her and she must swear to never interfere in his affairs. She refuses him, and both bid the other goodbye knowing one of them would soon have to die. Sam-shui, now too invested in Japanese imperialist ambitions, starts a fire to burn Po Chi Lam down to the ground in order to destroy any evidence of his wrongdoings.
They briefly find refuge in an escaped slaves' camp, but Striker and his men follow the trail straight to the camp and run out the population. Striker is noticeably disturbed at the bartender for killing a woman and an old man, and briefly pulls his own gun on the man. The brothers continue on further and briefly find refuge in the stilt house of a kind woman (Phyllis Robinson), before a storm the following night knocks over a lantern and starts a fire that burns the house down. They continue on into the forest, where they encounter a Native American, whom Levi strangles to death before they appropriate his canoe.
At the cabaret club the London agent finally loses patience after several third-rate acts fill the time in LV's absence and leaves. Ray storms into the club and sings "It's Over" on stage, as his career disappears before everyone's eyes. Meanwhile, the faulty wiring at LV's home finally starts a fire, trapping LV in her upper room where she is rescued by Billy. In a final showdown with her mother, after being wrongly accused by her mother of arson, LV responds by screaming in her mother's face, blaming her for LV's father's death and blaming her own meek nature on Mari's domineering attitude.
Nico continue to message Dylan's tormentor unaware it's actually Kim Butterfield (Daisy Wood-Davis). Kim later tells Nico that it was her tormenting Dylan, Nico tells Dylan's father, Trevor Royle (Greg Wood) about it, but when he doesn't act upon it she decides that he didn't care enough about Dylan, so she frames him for Carly's murder and has him arrested. Nico then locks Sienna in her room and starts a fire in the flat in order to make Ben see how much she means to him. However she panics that her plan backfired when Sienna isn't breathing, but she makes a full recovery.
The Mumfords do not get on well with their "paying guest", and attempt to persuade her to leave. This does not happen, and a series of events further disrupts the Mumfords' lives, including a private meeting between Louise and Clarence Mumford, which makes Clarence's wife jealous. Louise briefly and half heartedly seems to encourage Bowling's wooing of her, now that his courtship of Cecily is over, but Cobb makes a surprise trip to the Mumfords' home to pursue Louise. Louise, tripping on a chair Cobb had knocked over during the confrontation, accidentally starts a fire in the drawing room of the property, injuring Louise, who is then confined to bed for several weeks.
They later go horse riding in an effort to make things right, but they have yet another fight and Austin leaves Naomi behind without knowing that she is trapped. She then accidentally starts a fire, which Austin sees and they make amends and Austin tells Naomi that his parents are getting a divorce. When Naomi gets her internship with Rachel Gray, she is too busy to have some alone time with Austin and bosses Austin around without thanking him, which causes a fight between them. After Holly finds out that Naomi got the internship with her mother that she wanted, she kisses Austin in front of her in order to get revenge.
In her route (normal), because of poverty and a loan shark, she is forced to drop out of school and interviews for a job in the adult industry (arranged by the loan shark). :In the Normal Ending, her father starts a fire on her house because he cannot stand the burden of debt anymore, leading to Kirari's death at the end of chapter 3.
