Country Classic was a Quarter Horse gelding that competed and won in halter, showmanship, cutting, working cowhorse, barrel racing, stake race, hunt seat equitation, pole bending, hunter under saddle, trail, western pleasure, horsemanship, roping – both heading and heeling, and western riding."Forever Famous" Quarter Horse Journal p. 48 He won 98 all-around titles, a reserve world championship in stake race, six open and youth AQHA Superiors awards, and placed 15 times in the AQAH Youth World Show Top Ten. He died in April 1986.

It is a traditional horse race in dirt track in Brazil, raced since 1936. Disputed over (actually) 2,200 meters, at Hipodromo da Tablada, Pelotas. Race Day is March, Sunday, every year.

Retired from racing, in 1985 Fit to Fight became one of the original stallions to stand at stud at Lane's End Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. The sire of 39 Stake race winners, he was pensioned in 2005 and sent to retirement at Blue Ridge Farm in Middleburg, Virginia. On May 30, 2008, at the age of 29, he was euthanized due to the infirmities of old age.

Courtney's first professional race was the makeup race with Riley on August 28, 1877. Courtney and Riley agreed to a single scull race over a three-mile (5 km) course with a turn (stake race) on Saratoga Lake, and a purse of $800 to the winner. Also included in the race was noted professional rower Frederick Plaisted. Fred Plaisted had been at Greenwood Lake when Courtney was poisoned and was unable to race Riley.

Their red chestnut pacing star, Ensign Hanover, won the Little Brown Jug in 1949. It is believed that Ensign Hanover is the first horse to have ever flown in an airplane, when he flew, crosstied in the aisle of a DC - 3 cargo plane from Indiana to New York where he won a stake race at Roosevelt Raceway (the idea was put forth by famed aviator Wiley Post.) On September 27, 1940 Mrs. Johnson set the record for trotting under saddle, riding Greyhound, completing a mile in 2:01.3/4 at Lexington, Kentucky's famous Red Mile. This record stood for 54 years, until broken by Moni Maker, a trotter bred by Mrs.
