From Dundaff Road to a point downstream, the stream flows through areas of culm, waste rock, and strip pits from the old Coal Brook Colliery. Small bogs, ponds, and wetlands are in the stream's watershed. Its headwaters are in mountain springs. Upon reaching the Carbondale Nursing Home, Coal Brook enters an underground culvert.

Sheridan was named Coadjutor Bishop of Colorado Springs, Colorado, on December 4, 2001, later succeeding Richard Hanifen as the second Bishop of Colorado Springs upon the latter's resignation on January 30, 2003. Within the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishop Sheridan sits on the Committee on Education. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Pontifical North American College in Rome, of the Board of Directors of Catholic Relief Services, of the International Dominican Foundation, and of the Kenrick Seminary Board of Trustees.

In January 2010, R&R; Radio sold KDES-FM to LC Media, a subsidiary of Ventura-based Point Broadcasting, for $7.5 million. The new owner then changed the station's city of license to Redlands, California in the Riverside–San Bernardino radio market, thereby vacating the 104.7 FM frequency in Palm Springs. Upon relocating KDES-FM, LC Media changed its call letters to KKIE, then to KQIE, and took the station silent. In September 2010, over Labor Day weekend, KQIE returned to the air with a rhythmic contemporary format based on that of sister station KCAQ in Oxnard.

Sullen, sighing languorously, is entertaining disturbing thoughts of Archer: "...Suppose him here, dressed like a youthful, gay and burning bridegroom, with tongue enchanting, eyes bewitching, knees imploring..." She shrieks as she sees Archer, who steals forth from his closet hiding-place and faithfully acts out her fantasy. Again, Mrs. Sullen's conscience comes reluctantly to the rescue, and she is summoning resolution enough to scream when Scrub rushes in with word that the robbers are in the house. Archer, drawing his sword, hides as Gibbet enters to plunder, then springs upon the bandit and subdues him, summoning Foigard, who is hiding in Gipsy's chamber, to bind the fellow.

This area of fertile soil and abundant wildlife was long occupied by varying tribes of Native Americans. European explorers began to trade with them, but settlers did not come in large numbers until the late 18th century. Lexington was named in June 1775, in what was then considered Fincastle County, Virginia, 17 years before Kentucky became a state. A party of frontiersmen, led by William McConnell, camped on the Middle Fork of Elkhorn Creek (now known as Town Branch and rerouted under Vine Street) at the site of the present-day McConnell Springs. Upon hearing of the colonists' victory in the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, they named the site Lexington.
