She founded the Birmingham Equal Suffrace Association in 1910, followed by the Alabama Equal Suffrage Association a year later. In 1913, Jacobs spoke on behalf of Southern women's suffragists at the Annual Convention of the National Woman Suffrage Association in Washington D. C.. Jacobs and her colleagues nearly succeeded in putting a statewide suffrage referendum on the ballot in 1915, but opponents played up fears that giving women the vote would increase the political power of African Americans. The AESA then turned its efforts toward promoting a national suffrage amendment. Jacobs was elected as an officer in the National Equal Suffrage Association in 1915.
Yu spoke on behalf of all the descendants of Chinese Transcontinental Railroad workers at the United States Department of Labor induction of the Chinese Railroad Workers into the Labor Hall of Honor on May 9, 2014. In 2019, Connie was the co-editor of "Voices from the Railroad: Stories by descendants of Chinese railroad workers" published by the Chinese Historical Society of America.
As a result of the L.A. riots, Korean Americans formed activist organizations such as the Association of Korean- American Victims and built collaborative links with other ethnic groups through groups like the Korean American Coalition. A week after the riots, in the largest Asian-American protest ever held in a city, about 30,000 mostly- Korean and Korean-American marchers walked the streets of L.A. Koreatown, calling for peace and denouncing police violence. This cultural movement was devoted to the protection of Koreans' political rights, ethnic heritage, and political representation. New leaders arose within the community, and second- generation children spoke on behalf of the community.
He spoke "on behalf of a new generation that has been re-baptised in the Fenian faith" and called on the Irish people to stand together for the achievement of the freedom of Ireland. And, he said, "we know only one definition of freedom: it is Tone's definition, it is Mitchel's definition, it is Rossa's definition" (that is, an Irish Republic). The tone of the oration made it very clear that an attempt would soon be made to establish an Irish Republic by force of arms. The oration concluded with a challenge to the "Defenders of this Realm": > They think that they have pacified Ireland.
At the conclusion of a “Church Alive!” prayer meeting and worship service on the evening of Wednesday, October 22, 2003, Scott Bauer suffered the hemorrhage of a brain aneurysm, causing him to lapse into a coma. He died two days later, on October 24, 2003 in the Northridge Hospital in Northridge, California, at the age of 49. On October 29, 2003, a funeral service was conducted at the Church On the Way’s East Campus Sanctuary (The "Living Room") with over 6,000 people in attendance. Rabbi Steven Jacobs, personal friend of Scott Bauer, from Kol Tikvah Congregation in Woodland Hills was among the mourners, and spoke on behalf of the Jewish community.
She was one of the few black students while she attended the school and felt an enormous responsibility to speak out for and be a credit to her race while in high school. She graduated with a degree in History and Diplomacy from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1988 where she was accepted under the early decision program. Plaskett ran for student government at Georgetown under a progressive student ticket and was very active in the Anti-Apartheid Movement. As a student she spoke on behalf of universities in the DC area at the General Assembly of the United Nations.
As a political activist, Lloyd defended the Haymarket anarchists in 1886, a position that caused his father-in-law, William Bross, publisher of the Tribune, to disinherit him and his wife Jessie Bross. However, William Bross and his only daughter must have made amends, because he died in her home. Lloyd, after leaving the newspaper, continued to file stories as a free-lancing dispatcher, using the Associated Press wires, and his publications of outrage over the treatment of miners in the Spring Valley dispute are credited with ending that episode. Lloyd also wrote and spoke on behalf of Milwaukee streetcar operators in 1893, and anthracite coal miners in 1902.
On 6 December 1956, Kuper and Alan Paton spoke on behalf of the Liberal Party at a fundraising event in Durban in aid of the Treason Trial defendants. They and four other speakers were arrested and charged under a segregationist statute, the Natal Provincial Notice No. 78 of 1933, accused of "holding, or attending, or participating in ... a meeting of natives". Of the ensuing trial, Paton recalled: On 1 August 1957, all six defendants were acquitted on appeal. During the 1960s, Kuper moved to Los Angeles, California, United States, where he took up teaching and researching at UCLA and was appointed professor of sociology.
He unsuccessfully opposed the rigour of the new edicts against heresy issued in 1550. At Charles V's abdication on 25 October 1555, Maes spoke on behalf of the Emperor's subjects. He married Aleyde de Tassis, of the Thurn und Taxis family, and together they had four children: Engelbert, who became president of the Privy Council; Charles, who became bishop of Ypres and later bishop of Ghent; Jean-Baptiste, a member of the Council of Brabant; and Philippe, greffier to the States of Brabant, who from 1610 to 1618 represented the Archdukes Albert and Isabella at the papal court.Bruno Boute, Academic Interests and Catholic Confessionalisation (Leiden and Boston, 2010), p. 103.
Through it Baldridge meant to carry his perceptions of the War to the world. As he told Harry Hansen, "If only I can make the public see what war is – what a dirty, low thing it is, and how brutal it makes men, fine clean men – then they'd fight to the last ditch for the League of Nations."Harold Hanson -- "Roy Baldridge of Chicago" pamphlet -- 1919 Like most liberals in the 1920s Baldridge believed that war could be outlawed and espoused a one-world internationalism. He was a follower of Norman Thomas and at least once spoke on behalf of Jane Addams' pacifist Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.
Though she received 511 votes from male voters, her name was struck from the voting list because women were not eligible to serve in Parliament and her supporters' votes were nullified. In 1909, Dulębianka spoke on behalf of the Stronnictwo Jutra (Party of Tomorrow), outlining a platform which demanded social equality, Polish independence, and the cooperation of Poles and Ukrainians. When Konopnicka's health began to fail in 1910, the couple moved permanently to Lviv, where they could gain treatment for her at the Kisielki Sanatorium. Konopnicka, Dulębianka's companion for two decades, died on 8 October 1910 and Dulębianka organized a funeral which was attended by thousands of mourners.
Trial of Field and Gray p. 256 Edward Marshall Hall then spoke on behalf of Gray. Outlining Munro's character, Hall stressed that it would have been unlikely that a "ladylike, educated" young woman known to have been "fastidious as to her choice of company" would have sought the acquaintance of two unemployed, unambitious and heavy drinking individuals like the defendants. Hall then focused on the medical evidence, emphasising that Dr Cadman's opinion as to Munro's time of death deserved careful consideration, adding that Munro would undoubtedly have screamed when struck across the mouth, yet nobody had reported hearing her screams, or to hearing shingle shovelled over her body after her death.
Fannie Hurst, 1914 In the years after World War I, Hurst became famous as an author of extremely popular short stories and novels, many of which were made into films. Her popularity continued for several decades, only beginning to decline after World War II. Throughout her life, Hurst also actively worked and spoke on behalf of social justice organizations and causes supporting feminism and African-American civil rights, and occasionally supported other oppressed groups such as Jewish refugees (although she chose not to support some other Jewish causes), homosexuals, and prisoners. She was also appointed to several committees associated with President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal programs.
The same year he was a signatory of the Treaty of Canandaigua. Farmer's Brother delivered what is considered his most famous speech on the 21st of November 1798 at Genesee River in the newly formed New York State. His speech was presented alongside one from his contemporary, another notable Seneca Chief Red Jacket, before an assembled congregation of Chiefs from the Six Nations as well as other onlookers interested in hearing the esteemed speaker orate. In his speech, Farmer's Brother spoke on behalf of two American agents, Jasper Parrish and Horatio Jones, who had been captured by, and worked with, the Six Nations closely before eventually being adopted by them.
In June 2008, Membe spoke on behalf of three SADC countries saying that if the Zimbabwean runoff election were to be held it would never be free and fair due to the violence. Joram Gumbo of the ruling Zanu-PF accused Membe of bias. On 2 September he said that Tanzania would like to see a 50-50 power sharing agreement in order to avert the Zimbabwean economic crisis. In November 2010 at the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People held in Dar es Salaam, he said that Israel needed to halt the siege of Gaza, cease illegal construction in the occupied land and also dismantle the separation wall.
According to John A. Payton, the attorney who spoke on behalf of the University of Michigan, the affirmative action policy was put in place in order to reach a "critical mass", or a certain number of individuals to the point where they feel comfortable acting as individuals. Payton argued that admitting a greater number of minority students would reduce stereotypes that may have been held by students and open a range of viewpoints and ideas for students that they wouldn't have had otherwise. The admissions policy was ruled unconstitutional on the bases of violating the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, Title VI, and 42 U.S.C § 1981.
Judge Ana Viscomi rendered the verdict after hearing evidence on the issue of damages arising from 11 people who died from mesothelioma in connection with the Johns-Manville plant located in Manville, New Jersey. "The unity should not end with the mourning period, but we should see it continue," said the priest. Leader of Opposition, John Tembo, who spoke on behalf of the opposition political parties, said the death of Madam Mutharika, which he described a tragedy since it robbed Malawi of the mother of the nation, should serve as a symbol of unity for now and forever. "It is necessary that as a country we be united over this loss and that the unity continues thereafter as that is what is expected of us," Tembo said. Reverend Felix Chingota's eulogy added that Mutharika emulated Jesus and described Mutharika as Jesus who was difficult to be understood by people because of having vision.
SE generated media attention in 2013 when the NAACP and Reverends Marshall Hatch and Ira Acree of the National Action Network spoke on behalf of five African-American college football students attending Southeastern, one of whom was from Chicago, regarding an incident which occurred on April 2, 2013. According to Durant Police, several people reported masked men came to their residences and demanded money and cell phones. The students were suspended and scholarships revoked. All five were charged in June 2013 with felony conspiracy to engage in a pattern of criminal offenses plus misdemeanor charges of wearing a mask, hood or covering for the purposes of coercion, intimidation or harassment, and four counts of assault and battery.
L&NWR; and Midland Railway were quite commonly aligned in the years following and he was able to represent them jointly. This happened for example with the Worcester and Hereford Railway, where he spoke on behalf of both companies at shareholder meetings and served as solicitor to its parliamentary bills. The 1845–1846 parliamentary session saw the peak of Railway Mania and the beginnings of the Battle of the Gauges, in both of which Carter was much occupied. He and Isambard Kingdom Brunel apparently negotiated a territorial boundary in early 1846 between Brunel's Great Western Railway (GWR) and its affiliates on the broad gauge, and the standard gauge L&NWR; and Midland companies, but it was overturned.
Sometime in the 1980s, but before 1986, he succeeded Sammy McCormick as East Belfast brigadier and became a member of the UDA's ruling Inner Council. In 1986, in his role as brigadier, he represented the UDA at a meeting which was held at the DUP headquarters in Albertbridge Road with political leaders James Molyneaux and Ian Paisley, of the UUP and DUP, respectively. The meeting was convened to discuss a planned one-day strike to be carried out by the "Ulster Says No" committee in protest against the 1985 Anglo-Irish Agreement; while Elliot spoke on behalf of the UDA, David Ervine represented the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF)."Our own leaders let us down".
During 1950 and 1951 he was an unsuccessful Conservative candidate for the constituency of Hornchurch, now in Greater London but then in Essex, and often spoke on behalf of the Tory cause at elections. He worked for a number of British newspapers, had senior jobs with the magazines The Field and Country Life, and was both owner and editor of the periodical Saturday Review. Wentworth Day had a confrontation with Labour Party chairman Harold Laski in 1945, putting questions to him at a meeting in Newark, New Jersey, which resulted in Laski seemingly endorsing socialism by means violent revolution.Innes-Smith, op cit As such he was an important witness in the Laski libel lawsuit of 1946.
Tanacharison first appears in historical records in 1747, living in Logstown (near present Ambridge, Pennsylvania), a multi-ethnic village about 20 miles (30 kilometers) downstream from the forks of the Ohio River. Those Iroquois who had migrated to the Ohio Country were generally known as 'Mingos,' and Tanacharison emerged as a Mingo leader at this time. He also represented the Six Nations at the 1752 Treaty of Logstown, where he was referred to as "Thonariss, called by the English the half King". At this treaty, he spoke on behalf of the Six Nations' Grand Council, but also made clear that the Council's ratification was required, in accordance with the Iroquois system of government.
After completing his assignment in Chile and returning to the U.S. later that year, he decided to pursue Moneythink as a full-time venture. In 2012, Gonder spoke on behalf of Moneythink when it was named a White House Champion of Change, and declared that the organization’s goal was to make youth financial capability a social norm in the U.S. by 2030. He also became the organization’s first executive director. From February 2012 to May 2013, Gonder served as entrepreneur in residence at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he collaborated with other entrepreneurs and senior government officials on initiatives to streamline pathways for foreign entrepreneurs to more easily immigrate to the U.S., grow businesses, and create jobs.
Ismail Ali Nur, who spoke on behalf of the dissenting lawmakers, indicated that Somalia's constitution requires a parliament quorum of no less than 139 MPs present for votes, but that "only 95 MPs" showed up as opposed to the 143 members of parliament claimed by Speaker Adan "Madobe" Mohamed. Nur also urged people to "watch video footage recorded from that session."Somalia: PM Nur Adde Confidence Vote 'Never Happened' – 80 MPs On 24 December, the newly appointed Prime Minister Guled announced his resignation, citing that he did not wish to be "seen as a stumbling block to the peace process which is going well now.""More turmoil in Somalia as new PM quits", AFP, 24 December 2008.
During his tenure, there was an effort to do away with the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and a 1971 report made such a recommendation. The report also called the position of Surgeon General "an organizational anomaly," thus calling into question the need for such a position. Steinfeld spoke on behalf of the internal opposition to the report, and thanks to strong support for the Corps and the Surgeon General on the part of certain members of the United States Congress, the recommendations of the report were not implemented. During Steinfeld's tenure as Surgeon General, two important new Public Health Service programs were established, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the National Health Service Corps.
After the war the Vaad kept working to supply the survivors with food and other relief supplies. Bunim also supported and was vice-president of Torah Umesorah, the National Society for Hebrew Day Schools founded by Rabbi Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz, the head of Yeshiva and Mesivta Torah Vodaath. He traveled to distant places to raise funds. He also encouraged people to open schools, helped prevent communities from closing schools, and encouraged teachers and principals. Bunim was also involved with Chinuch Atzmai, Israel’s independent ultra- Orthodox elementary school system, aiding its chairman Stephen Klein, and Rabbi Aharon Kotler, its founder and head, and frequently spoke on behalf of the organization in America and helped raise funds for it.
This new parkway would become a traffic reliever for north–south roads through Nassau County, including a new interchange in Old Westbury that would mark the northern terminus of the Meadowbrook. The $10 million (1956 USD) project was completed in 1956, with the parkway being opened to traffic on October 13, 1956, with a ceremony attended by the new governor, W. Averell Harriman, along with Moses and Edward Larkin, the supervisor for the town of Hempstead. All three spoke on behalf of their entities, and after, traveled the new alignment north to the Northern State and back south. The group then went to Roosevelt Field and was praised by William Zeckendorf in honor of completion of the extension.
The Act described itself as a response to the malicious theft of frames, and the propensity for "discontents ... and other disorderly persons [to] have assembled in a riotous and tumultuous manner and have destroyed or materially damaged great numbers of stocking frames". Daniel Coke, Member of Parliament for Nottingham, spoke on behalf of the bill in the Commons, citing disturbances in the town and pointing to previous legislation aimed at similar disruption in the wool trade. Coke originally proposed that machine-breaking carry the death penalty, but was later forced to abandon this, seeing the request "overwhelmingly rejected" by Parliament. The Act was eventually passed and received royal assent on 25 June 1788.
In 1740 he also spoke on behalf of Carolina in opposing the inclusion of rice among prohibited exports. Bowles was again returned for both Bridport and Bewdley at the 1741 British general election and this time chose to sit for Bewdley. He voted with the Administration on the chairman of the elections committee in December 1741, but was absent from an important division on 21 January 1742, when he ‘sat diverting himself all night at Garraway's Coffee House’. He was a member of the committee of inquiry into Walpole's conduct, and though considered a supporter of Walpole, he not only voted but also spoke for the bill to indemnify anyone who gave evidence against Walpole.
The book, which was a combination of statistical charts and provocative prose, attracted little attention until 1859 when it was widely reprinted in condensed form by Northern opponents of slavery. Helper concluded that slavery hurt the Southern economy overall (by preventing economic development and industrialization), and was the main reason why the South had progressed so much less than the North (according to the results of the 1850 census). Helper spoke on behalf of the majority of Southern whites of moderate means—the Plain Folk of the Old South—who he said were oppressed by a small (but politically dominant) aristocracy of wealthy slave-owners.Brown (2004) The reaction in the South was very negative.
In February 2016, several politicians (mostly from the Estonian Free Party) introduced the Same-Sex Partnership Bill, aimed at repealing the Registered Partnership Act and creating a separate law for same-sex couples. Andres Herkel, who spoke on behalf of the Free Party, justified the need for the bill and criticised the partnership act, arguing it had brought legal confusion to include same-sex couples and opposite-sex couples in the same law: "The including of the regulation concerning different-sex couples and same-sex couples in one Act is the basis of very many conceptual confusion." The bill was opposed by the Conservative People's Party, the Reform Party and the Social Democrats, and ultimately failed 14-55 in Parliament.
Despite the shock result, New Zealand still managed to qualify for a rematch with Trans-Tasman rivals, Australia, in the final. After losing by just 6 points in the round-robin stage meeting, the Kiwis were thrashed by the Kangaroos in the final 34–8. After the final Anzac Test fixture was played, Kidwell spoke on behalf of the NZRL to announce that captain Jesse Bromwich, and Kevin Proctor were suspended from playing in the World Cup after they were caught buying cocaine from a stranger after the test-match. Controversy occurred before the 2017 World Cup, after star forward, Jason Taumalolo, decided to switch allegiances after choosing to play for Tonga at the World Cup rather than his country of birth.
The organization has come under fire due to its CEO Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi's comments about race and the 2016 election. Although Mizrahi was making a highly technical (and probably incorrect) point about what might turn the election in favor of Hillary Clinton, multiple disability rights bloggers objected to Mizrahi's comments.Intersectional Justice: Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi's Post on White Voters and Disability RespectAbility, Class and Race Privilege, and Leveling the Erring Field After Mizrahi's September 21, 2016 comments on her personal Facebook page, the organization stated Mizrahi did not speak for the organization on matters of that type in her personal blog. However, the following day, Mizrahi spoke on behalf of RespectAbility USA when she was quoted on CNN about white disabled voters.
In the post-war years, Barth edited the periodical Vår Hær from 1946 to 1964, and Norges Forsvar from 1964 to 1966. Vår Hær was published by the Norwegian Army Regular Officers' Association and spoke on behalf of the association's members, while Norges Forsvar was and still is the magazine of the Norges Forsvarsforening (Norwegian Defence Association). In a 1946 leader, Vår Hær criticized the Norwegian Minister of Defence, Jens Christian Hauge and demanded his resignation. The resignation demand, which included claims that Hauge had ignored the advice of military professionals and involved himself too much in the details of military matters in the post-war reconstruction of the Norwegian Armed Forces, led to a debate in the national newspapers.
On October 19, 2011, Greenpeace Executive Director Phil Radford spoke on behalf of Greenpeace supporting Occupy Wall Street protesters, stating: "We stand – as individuals and an organization – with Occupiers of all walks of life who peacefully stand up for a just, democratic, green and peaceful future." The Internet Archive and the Occupy Archive, a project at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, has been collecting material from Occupy sites beyond New York. In November 2011, Public Policy Polling did a national survey which found that 33% of voters supported OWS and 45% opposed it, with 22% not sure. 43% of those polled had a higher opinion of the Tea Party movement than the Occupy movement.
After his election, she was appointed as his spokesperson, and then from 5 December 2010 to 11 April 2011, she served as Minister of Education in the Gilbert Aké government, which was not recognised by the international community. On 18 December 2010, she spoke on behalf of Gbagbo and called for the immediate withdrawal of UN and French troops from the country, saying the UN was guilty of "serious missteps" and "contempt" for the country's institutions. On 11 January 2011, the European Union placed Oble under sanctions as a member of the Ake N'Gbo government. After Gbagbo's arrest on 11 April 2011, bringing an end to the Second Ivorian Civil War, she was the only minister not disturbed by the new leaders.
The NUWSS, whose policy had contributed to the withdrawal of the Liberal candidate who supported them, chose not to support either the Unionist or the Independent. Without a candidate to support, the NUWSS were reduced to just carrying out propaganda work during the by-election. In the course of the contest Butler Lloyd had the assistance of his brother, Ernest Thomas Lloyd, Resident Magistrate in Ireland, formerly stationed in County Kerry, Meath, and County Londonderry, who spoke strongly during the election against proposed Irish Home Rule. On 28 August 1536 the king confirmed to him and his heirs the lands of Glenshie in Strathearn, erected into a free forest. At the parliament held at Edinburgh in March 1543, after the death of King James V, Ruthven spoke on behalf of the laity being granted liberty to read the Scriptures in the English tongue; and at the same parliament he was chosen one of the eight noblemen, two of whom were to have the charge of the young queen every three months. On 24 July 1543 he signed a band to support Cardinal Beaton, but his adherence to the cardinal was only temporary, for in 1544 he resisted by force of arms the cardinal's candidate for the provostship of Perth. Ruthven was appointed keeper of the privy seal in July 1546 .
Li Bi further spoke on behalf of Han Huang, the military governor (Jiedushi) of Zhenhai Circuit (鎮海, headquartered in modern Zhenjiang, Jiangsu), whom Emperor Dezong had been suspicious of, and subsequently, Emperor Dezong sent messengers, including Han Huang's son Han Gao (), to Zhenhai to show that he had no further apprehensions of Han Huang. Han Huang, in gratitude, sent the imperial government a large supply of rice, allowing the Chang'an region to recover from a major famine.Zizhi Tongjian, vol. 231. In 785, after Zhang Quan (), the military governor of Shanguo Circuit (陝虢, headquartered in modern Sanmenxia, Henan), was assassinated by his subordinate Daxi Baohui () and Daxi took over the circuit, Emperor Dezong, concerned that Daxi Baohui would join Li Huaiguang, sent Li Bi to Shanguo to try to calm the situation.
Murray State University was founded after passage of Senate Bill 14 by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, which created two normal schools in the early 20th century to address the growing demand for professional teachers. One was to be located in the western part of the state, and many cities and towns bid for the new normal school. Rainey T. Wells spoke on behalf of the city of Murray to convince the Normal School Commission to choose his city. On September 2, 1922, Murray was chosen as the site of the western normal school, while Morehead was chosen for the eastern normal school. On November 26, 1922, John Wesley Carr was elected the first president of the Murray State Normal School by the State Board of Education.
In 1997 Susan Lindberg spoke on behalf of AVN opposing the announcement of a government plan to cut child care and maternity payments to parents who didn't vaccinate their children and to give incentive payments to doctors to give vaccines; she also called for creation of a vaccine registry and adverse event reporting system to be created. In May 2000, Meryl Dorey spoke out against cuts in child care payments for 9000 families who failed to get their children vaccinated. She called the legislation a type of "civil conscription" and said the program was likely in violation of the Constitution. Wooldridge responded that the claim was "nonsense" because the requirement was "simply a condition on government financial assistance" and that families had the choice to accept it or not.
It can safely be stated that not less than 75 percent > of the economy of Camden County is directly dependent on Gilman Paper > Company. Of those employed by Gilman Paper Company was Georgia State Representative Robert W. Harrison, who served as the attorney for the St. Marys mill; the attorney for the surrounding cities of St. Marys, Kingsland, and Folkston; the attorney for the local school board and the hospital authority; and the attorney for Camden and Charlton Counties. Disputes that arose over Gilman Paper Company’s obligation to pay city and county taxes were resolved by Robert Harrison, who spoke on behalf of Gilman Paper Company, the city, and the county. At the event, Hasselmann spoke on behalf of the Brazilian people, asking the Israeli authorities for forgiveness for the aggression that the Brazilian government made against Israel at UNESCO. In Jerusalem she said that "Brazil is for Israel, no one can tear the Bible" ("O Brasil é por Israel, ninguém pode rasgar a Bíblia") and delivered a Brazilian flag in a symbolic act, receiving in return a flag of Israel from the authorities. On the same occasion, Hasselmann delivered a document signed by the International Community Brazil & Israel, showing the support of the Brazilian people and recognizing the sovereignty of the Israelis over Jerusalem, referring to the city as their "eternal capital".
Towards the end of 1906 Barrett attended a suffrage rally in Cardiff and was inspired by a speech from Nellie Martel to join the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) at the end of the meeting. She felt "that they were doing the right and only thing" and thought that she herself "had always been a suffragist." By the following year Barrett was active as a WSPU activist and helped organise Adela Pankhurst's meetings in Cardiff and Barry that year, sharing the stage with her as one of the speakers. Barrett spoke on behalf of the WSPU at many meetings, often in Welsh, which conflicted with her role as a schoolteacher as her headmistress disapproved of the publicity, especially after news of Barrett being flour- bombed with Adela Pankhurst at a rally in Cardiff Docks made the local papers.
Gregory Holman, the fire chief of the White Lake Fire Authority, noted that the firefighting effort would have been much more difficult had the fire occurred during the summer, when the lodge would have been at or near capacity. According to Holman, the cause of the fire was still "undetermined of an unknown origin" in May 2013. Ron Wilson, the CEO of Hotel Investment Services, stated that his "best guess" was that the fire was caused by an electric short in the building's heaters, although fire investigators could neither confirm nor deny an electrical cause to the fire. Business adviser John Harrington, who spoke on behalf of Michillinda's owners, estimated the damages as in the "millions" of dollars, including more than $1 million in recent renovations as well as lodging and wedding reservations already made for the 2013 season.
In 1913, he attended the dedication of the National American Indian Memorial where he spoke on behalf of the tribes represented at the ceremony, and took part in the inaugural parade for President Woodrow Wilson, where he presented Wilson with "a peace pipe made of South Dakota red clay". He caught pneumonia during the visit and subsequently died on the morning of March 15 at Providence Hospital. A funeral service was held in Washington, D.C., and newspapers reported several hundred in attendance, and a sufficient crowd that police were needed to clear the aisle so that the coffin could be brought in. Writing on March 22, 1913, the Sacred Heart Review described the scene at the funeral: > Chiefs of the Blackfoot, Crow, and Sioux Indians, resplendent in feathers > and colors, followed the body to the altar with heads bowed in grief.
The refusal of the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church to recognize women as preachers terminated her ministry as associate pastor of the Methodist church in Allston, Massachusetts, but it was her dream to be in charge of a church—Methodist if it may be, Independent if it must be. After marrying James Stevenson, a merchant of Boston, Newton, Massachusetts became her home until 1893, when she came to Chicago as editor of the department of Books and Leaflets for the Woman's Temperance Publishing Association, and contributing editor to the Union Signal. In November, 1894, the National WCTU showed its appreciation of her two years' service, 1891–93, as Corresponding Secretary of the Massachusetts WCTU by electing her to the same office in the national organization. In September 1909, she had traveled to Christchurch, New Zealand and spoke on behalf of temperance.

"The Women's State Suffrage Association and the Equal Suffrage Society of Indianapolis composed of Zerelda G. Wallace, Mary F. Thomas, Mary Haggart and Amy E. Dunn who spoke on behalf of a suffrage amendment." Typescript of Emma Barrett Molloy, “EMMA BARRETT MOLLOY COLLECTION, 1846–1985”, “Woman Suffrage, Indiana and Kansas Box 6, Folder 3,” Indiana Historical Society, Indianapolis, Indiana This opportunity to speak in front of a larger assembly provided a chance for the women to progress the status of women's suffrage, if the suffrage amendment would pass. Viewed as one of the ablest advocates of women's enfranchisement, Mary Haggart will be remembered for her dedication to the suffrage movement and work for women's equality in the public sphere. While she fought on the behalf of women, she based her views around justice and the inherent rights for all members of the human race as citizens of the United States.
One of the speakers was Adolph Canales, a member of the Mexican-American assembly, who said in his speech that the rally was proof that the community was not going to sit back anymore. Pancho Medrano spoke on behalf of the United Auto Workers, and later said that he hoped his grandchildren would have better lives thanks to the efforts of the community. Afterwards, at about 8:30 pm, around 300 people marched from the park to the site of Santos' shooting and back. Despite Dallas Police maintaining a low profile at the park and Brown Berets breaking up groups they worried may cause trouble, there were a few incidents at the park after the march: a false stabbing was reported and bottles were thrown at police officers, allegedly by non-marchers, leading to a 15-minute confrontation between around 100 people and police at the entrance of the park.
She also spoke on behalf of Women in Energy and was honored by them with the 1980 Woman of Achievement in Energy award. Brooks continued lobbying on behalf of the oil and gas industry throughout the 1980s, urging industry officials to become politically involved, write their congress members and the president of the United States in protest of moratoriums on exploration. Brooks continued to be honored after retirement, with such honors as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Energy Advocates in 2005, a A Salute to Oklahoma's Energy Past by Oklahoma's Energy Advocates in 2007 and inclusion in a book, Astronauts, Athlete & Ambassadors, Oklahoma Women from 1950 to 2007, published as part of Oklahoma's centennial.
The marches were not without obstacles: In Jerusalem, the police initially refused to give a permit for the march, providing it only after an intervention by Knesset Member Tamar Zandberg. The Tel Aviv march was organized by a new group of activists, initiated by Feminist activist Tzipi Eran. That year's march also involved a fierce dispute with the "Socialist Struggle" movement (Ma'avak Socilisti - מאבק סוציאליסטי) which organised its own SlutWalk but objected to the term "sharmuta" on the grounds that it was an originally Arabic word, and thus using it could be considered offensive to women from a minority group. The rival march organizers, conversely, held that avoiding the term would be an act of "Slut-shaming" - precisely what the march was supposed to oppose - and they also objected to the Socialist Struggle march being led by men who spoke on behalf of women victims of sexual violence.
Jimmy, who spoke on behalf of his mother to dispute the accusations that had been leveled at their her, lobbied the court for custody by stating that Workman allowed Winter to be to be publicly "sexualized", that she exploited Winter to promote her acting school, and that she used the money Winter earned as a cast member of the TV series Modern Family to hold "lavish parties and limousines," which Jimmy stated had torn their family apart. Jimmy also told the court that their father, Glenn Workman, who was in charge of Winter's estate, was unfit because his poor financial situation made him vulnerable to manipulation by Workman and her lawyers. On May 5, 2014, the court ordered permanent guardianship to Workman and removed Winter from her mother's guardianship permanently. In May 2014, a settlement was reached among the parties by which Workman would retain custody of Winter, with Glenn maintaining control of her finances, and making required reports to the court.
On April 19, 1906, at a public hearing on the bill, Mayor Folinsbee, of Strathroy, spoke on behalf of those who observed the seventh-day, or Saturday. As a result, the government adopted the following amendment: ::"Notwithstanding anything herein contained, whoever conscientiously and habitually observes the seventh day of the week as the Sabbath, and actually refrains from work and labor on that day, shall not be subject to prosecution for performing work or labor on the first day of the week, provided that such work or labor does not disturb other persons in the observance of the first day of the week as holy time, and that the place where the same is performed be not open for traffic on that day." In response to this amendment, the Toronto Methodist Conference sent a telegram to Prime Minister Laurier stating: : > Toronto Methodist Conference, assembled here, unanimously opposed to clause > 11 [exemption clause] in Lord's Day Act. R. H. Burns, Pres.
Greenblatt, an executive board member of the National Association of Manufacturers, has testified on business issues several times before Congressional panels. On April 28, 2005, Greenblatt testified before the Regulatory Reform and Oversight Subcommittee of the House Committee on Small Business in Washington, D.C. He spoke on behalf of the National Association of Manufacturers, the nation's largest industrial trade association, about the concerns of small business, arguing that Federal bookkeeping regulations are "government-caused obstacles" to the growth of small business: "Accountants do not help my company be more productive or run faster or make higher quality." On February 28, 2008, Greenblatt testified before the Committee on Small Business of the United States House of Representatives on the Paperwork Reduction Act, again on behalf of the National Association of Manufacturers. At this hearing, he described a stack of paperwork "6 feet tall", produced by all of the federally mandated forms required for his business.
Letourneau was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the Sarthe constituency on 21 October 1945 on the MRP platform. He was reelected on the same platform on 2 June 1946, 10 November 1946 and 17 June 1951. On 27 January 1946 Letourneau was appointed Minister of Posts, Telegraphs and Telephones in the Cabinet of Félix Gouin. On 3 April 1946 he introduced a bill that defined the relationship between the postal service and the SNCF for parcel delivery. He was in favor of nationalization, but on 19 April 1946 opposed the draft Constitution of the Fourth Republic. This text was rejected in the referendum of 5 May 1946, making it necessary to convene a second Constituent Assembly. Letourneau was reelected on 2 June 1946, with a larger share of the vote, and on 6 August 1946 was again appointed PTT Minister. On 5 October 1946 he spoke on behalf of the government at the division of the Constituent Assembly. On 22 January 1947 he was appoint Minister of Commerce in the government of Paul Ramadier.
Even the title of this short-lived publication spoke of conflict with the current regime, implying that Desmoulins spoke on behalf of the "old" or original members of the Club des Cordeliers, in opposition to the more radical and extreme factions that had now come into power. In the seven issues that comprised the Vieux Cordelier, Desmoulins condemned the suspicion, brutality, and fear that had come to characterize the Revolution, comparing the ongoing Revolutionary Terror to the oppressive reign of the Roman emperor Tiberius and calling for the establishment of a "Committee of Clemency" to counter the climate of mercilessness fostered by the Committee of Public Safety. In the fourth number of the journal, Desmoulins addressed Robespierre directly, writing, "My dear Robespierre... my old school friend... Remember the lessons of history and philosophy: love is stronger, more lasting than fear."Scurr, 298 The perceived counter-revolutionary tone in these calls for clemency led to Desmoulins' expulsion from the Club des Cordeliers and denunciation at the Jacobins, as well as, ultimately, to his arrest and execution.
In August 2013, Workman petitioned a court that he be granted custody of his then-15-year-old sister, actress Ariel Winter, stating that their other sister, Shanelle Gray, was an "unfit guardian" and a poor role model for Winter. Gray had been granted temporary guardianship of Winter in November 2012, following the accusation that their mother, Chrisoula Workman, had been physically and emotionally abusive toward Winter. Workman, who spoke on behalf of their mother to dispute the accusations that had been leveled at her, lobbied the court for custody by stating that Gray allowed Winter to be publicly "sexualized", exploited Winter to promote her acting school, and used the money Winter earned as a cast member of the TV series Modern Family to hold "lavish parties and limousines," which Workman stated had torn their family apart. Workman also told the court that their father, Glenn Workman, who was in charge of Winter's estate, was unfit because his poor financial situation made him vulnerable to manipulation by Gray and her lawyers.
Though the community for over some years ago has not considered any pressing problem which might need immediate attention, however unavailability of electricity is now emerging as one. In fact, although countless, unprecedented and gargantuan promises has ever been made by the member of parliament (MP) for the area, honorable Dominic Azimbe Azumah, none proved futile. On the just ended parliamentary primaries election held late in November 2015, some agitated youth of the community triggered to question the MP when he visited the community as part of his campaign tour, why after the countless promises made to them, failed to materialize but they were not allowed by the organizers claiming they were not there on that day for questions adding there was no enough time. The zonal chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC),together with other members of the organizing team of the party, spoke on behalf of the MP assuring the youth to exercise patience and give the MP the mandate into power once again and they shall lobby together for the electricity and many other developmental projects.
He remained in this position for the next decade. (According to his obituary in the New York Times, he was general counsel from 1936 to 1948.) In August 1938, Pressman criticized the American Bar Association in The CIO News in his own "bill of particulars," which included the following: # Mooney Case: ABA refused to investigate injustice committed therein # Industrial Espionage: ABA lawyers have worked with firms "that engage in industrial espionage" # Sacco-Vanzetti Case: ABA refused to investigate # Wagner Act: Shared ABA and NLG members declared this act "unconstitutional" # Racism: ABA membership asked for and often excluded members based on race ("White," "Indian," "Negro," "Mongolian") In May 1939, Pressman spoke on behalf of the CIO before the US Senate's Education and Labor sub-committee to support the "National Health Bill" (part of the Reorganization Act of 1939), sponsored by US Senator Robert F. Wagner. He attacked the American Medical Society's position against the bill as "reactionary," which he felt had kept the bill from going "far enough." From May through August 1939, Pressman attacked support for the "Walsh amendments" to the 1935 National Labor Relations Act (AKA the "Wagner Act").
She led many campaigns through the South and the West on behalf of the NAWSA while she continues to support efforts in Kentucky to proliferate city/county suffrage associations—seven of them by 1890. In February 1894 Sallie Clay Bennett (Laura's older sister) spoke on behalf of the NAWSA before the U.S. Senate Committee on Woman Suffrage emphasizing the right of black men and women to vote because all were citizens. Mrs. Bennett wrote a political treatise that was presented to Congress by Senator Lindsay and Rep McCreary on behalf of the NAWSA, "asking Congress to protect white and black women equally with black men against State denial of the right to vote for members of Congress and the Presidential electors in the States..." – writing private letters to every member of Congress and sending copies to editors of newspapers in every state. Eugenia B. Farmer of Covington figured out that the charters for second-class cities in Kentucky were up for renewal and the Kentucky Equal Rights Association (KERA) lobbied successfully in the Kentucky Constitutional Convention to get the legislature to grant those municipalities the right to grant woman suffrage.
